00:00Let's take a look at the AL playoff picture, particularly from the top of the standings.
00:04If you look at the AL East, it's the Toronto Blue Jays with a four-game lead over the Boston Red Sox
00:08and a four-and-a-half-game lead over the New York Yankees.
00:11In the Central Division, it's the Detroit Tigers.
00:14What a Jekyll and Hyde team.
00:15They've now lost four games in a row, and that lead is down to eight-and-a-half again.
00:19They'll still win that division, but certainly not comfortably running away with it 13, 14, 15 games.
00:24Then we have the Houston Astros.
00:26Not playing great baseball, neither of the Seattle Mariners over the past 10 games,
00:29but the Astros still currently hold a one-and-a-half-game lead.
00:32So of the teams in first place, Jays, Tigers, and Astros, for you, Joe Ranieri, who do you trust more?
00:41To me, it's the Astros, unfortunately, until we see otherwise here,
00:46because they may be lulling people and faking people here, but the Astros, it's kind of hard.
00:52They've been there, done that.
00:53They got Jordana Alvarez back.
00:55It'll take him a few to get back assimilated, but when he does, that's a different lineup, Donnie.
01:03He is a guy that is a game-changer, and hopefully they get a little healthier in that bullpen
01:08by the time we get to the middle of September into the postseason,
01:14and I think the Astros will be just fine.
01:18The Astros, again, the pedigree is there for the Stros.
01:21We get that.
01:21I just need to see a little bit more hitting here, Jordan Alvarez back into that lineup.
01:25Maybe he's going to assimilate sooner than later, and things should happen, but I am looking forward to it.
01:28If I have one race, and I'm like, let me see in the American League, it really is Houston versus Seattle.
01:33I don't think the Toronto Blue Jays are going to give up that four, four-and-a-half-game lead.
01:36I mean, they could, and the Yankees could play good baseball, the Red Sox,
01:39but I just see them being the team that wins it.
01:40Same thing with the Detroit Tigers, no real pushback there.
01:43The Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, a lot of fun to watch, and those price points there.
01:46The Tigers at a plus-290 price to win the pennant in the American League.
01:50The Blue Jays, plus-390.
01:51The Yankees at a plus-430 price, and away we go.
01:55If we look at the NL pennant odds here, to have some fun with that.
01:58First place, Philadelphia Phillies, only four games now.
02:01They could have wrapped it up with the Mets.
02:02They lost three straight games.
02:03The Mets win three straight games.
02:04That's how you get that action now back into the fold in the month of September.
02:09The Milwaukee Brewers, they are a six-and-a-half-game lead over the Chicago Cubs right now,
02:13and the Los Angeles Dodgers have now increased after a four-game win streak for them,
02:17coinciding with a loss last night for the Padres.
02:19They now lead the Padres by two games.
02:22Trust levels, Joe.
02:23Phillies, Brewers, and Dodgers at the top of the standings here.
02:27Yeah, I think it's pretty much what you're going to get, right, Nani?
02:30I mean, that makes total sense.
02:32They should be the three favorites.
02:34The wild card, to me, will be the Mets and the Padres.
02:39Outside of that, I think that's it.
02:41I think that's what you got.
02:42The Cubs are just a hot mess.
02:45You want to talk about a team that probably peaked too early this year?
02:49That would be the Chicago Cubs.
02:50And we see it every year, Donnie, with a couple of teams that look so good in the first half
02:56and then go MIA in the second, and that appears where the Cubs are heading.
03:01Yeah, take a look at the pennant winners here.
03:02The odds to win at the Los Angeles Dodgers, plus 175 price.
03:06The Brewers have now jumped ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies at a 4-1 price.
03:08The Phillies at a 5-1 price, followed by the Padres, plus 550.
03:12And the Mets at a 7-1 price.
03:14Sometimes it only matters, Joe, right?
03:16How do you end the season?
03:17Who's going to be hot at the right time?
03:19Are you playing great baseball in the last week of September to ride that hot streak?
03:22Or are your bats going to go absolutely ice cold at the worst possible moment?
03:26And that's what will lead up to it.
03:27Because the World Series price points here, they're always going to be the Dodgers at a plus 300 price.
03:32And look at the closest competitors here.
03:33The Brewers at an 8-1 price.
03:35And also, you take a look at the Philadelphia Phillies at a 9-1 price.
03:39It's amazing here how high the Dodgers are.
03:41And also, how about three teams in the National League we see before we even get an American League team there?
03:47Yeah, I mean, it's all National League, isn't it?
03:51And deservedly so, Donnie.
03:53I think the top three teams in the National League, you compare them to the top three teams in the American League, way more holes and questions on the American League side than the National League.
04:04And now that you've got Otani going five innings and actually winning games and being the pitcher of record, yeah, things are looking better for the Dodgers.
04:14And you look at the MVP race here.
04:16Otani was very good on the mound yesterday.
04:18He still sits at a minus 10,000 favorite over Kyle Schwarber at a 16-1 price and Manny Machado at a 100-1 price.
04:24Outside of a devastating injury for Shoya Otani, he will be your MVP there.
04:28And as we talked about, that American League pennant, the standings there, maybe it comes down the stretch.
04:33Can the Yankees overtake the Toronto Blue Jays?
04:35But right now, Kyle Raleigh's in second place in that race at a plus 110 price, Joe.
04:39And Aaron Judge at a minus 150.
04:41Judge hits a home run.
04:42Yankees win.
04:42His number gets bigger.
04:43That's probably what we can anticipate the rest of the way.
04:45Yeah, look for that to increase, Donnie, I think, as we get a little bit closer to the end of the regular season.
04:55It's funny how the pendulum switches, right?
04:57Minus 20,000 on Aaron Judge.
04:59Then he was plus money.
05:00Now he's minus 150.
05:01How long before he gets back up to?
05:03Minus 20,000.
05:04We'll find out.
05:05But hour number two is on the way next.
05:07The hottest topics, breakdowns, everything you need to set the stage for your switch for a day.
05:12We got it on the early line.
05:13Joe Ranieri, Donnie Wrightside, Early Line Sports Grid Network.
05:16Yes, we're all footballed up.
05:17Yes, we're geeked up to play football.
05:18We want to maybe not play football, but at least watch football at this point.
05:20I don't know, Joe.
05:21You playing any 7-on-7 leagues down there in South Florida?
05:24It's big.
05:24You going to go over to maybe Broward County, maybe Miami-Dade, get involved?
05:29No, not unless it requires me to have an 8-iron in my hand.
05:34No, I'm not involved in any sort of 7-on-7 there, Donnie.
05:37Don't believe in it.
05:38I believe on betting on it, but yeah, no, that ship has sailed, my friend.
05:43Optimist football in Miami, nothing better than that.
05:46Except maybe Major League Baseball with afternoon games today, Joe.
05:49We got one at 1 o'clock.
05:509-11, 9-12 on the rotation.
05:52That's Boston and Baltimore.
05:53Crochet and Povich on the mound.
05:55Heavy favorite for Crochet and the Boston Red Sox.
05:58At a minus 180 price at outlets, up to minus 198, depending on where you're shopping.
06:03A total bouncing between 8s and 7.5s as well.
06:07Povich and Crochet down in Baltimore on a Thursday.
06:10Yeah, I mean, listen, Baltimore having a bit of a problem scoring some runs in this series.
06:16I think they've only played in, what, five over the first three games?
06:21And they haven't faced Crochet yet, I don't think, this season.
06:25Until, of course, this afternoon, which is likely not going to go well for them here.
06:32And Povich, yeah, no, I don't think he's going to be able to limit the bats here of Boston.
06:39So, yeah, I could only look at maybe the run line, laying it with Boston,
06:44because I think runs are going to be very difficult for Baltimore here.
06:4876, 77 degrees, Joe.
06:50First pitch, light wind blowing out to left field at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
06:53We'll see how that one plays out.
06:55How about yesterday?
06:56Eric Fetty making a return to the mound after Ashby opened up the game.
06:59And that ended up in a loss for the Brewers, but not because of the pitchers.
07:02They actually did fine.
07:03They're going to go toe-to-toe again today with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
07:06This time in the afternoon, a 2-10 start.
07:08A favorite for Jose Quintana and the Brewers.
07:10No surprise.
07:11Minus 162s, minus 165s in the sports betting landscape there.
07:15And a total overnight that opened up at 8.5.
07:17As you see on the graphic, it's 9 everywhere now.
07:20I hate betting against or for Quintana.
07:22Chris Matt's on the mound.
07:23Can we see another win by the Diamondbacks today?
07:25Is that possible?
07:26Yeah.
07:28First of all, did you even know Eric Fetty was pitching for the Brewers yesterday?
07:32No.
07:33Like, what in the – yeah, I had no clue where that even came from here.
07:37But, yes, that's what happened.
07:40So, Arizona getaway game here.
07:42I believe they have a series coming up against the Dodgers.
07:46And I do think that, yeah, after that loss yesterday, I would not bet against Milwaukee.
07:53They've done a really good job of bouncing back in spots like this.
07:57And I think because of the Fetty move and everyone else yesterday, I think the leverage, guys, the back end of that Brewers bullpen is in much better shape here today than they were 48 hours ago.
08:08And take a look at baseball this afternoon, one game in the 1 o'clock hour East Coast time, three games in the 2 o'clock hour East Coast time.
08:15Then we have a 3.45 game, then 6.45, 7.10, and 7.40.
08:18So, you can watch your Major League Baseball in the afternoon, your baseball at night, and mix it in with a little bit of college football.
08:24I'll tell you, yesterday, you mixed in a little bit of runs.
08:26That was the San Francisco Giants absolutely smashing the Chicago Cubs.
08:30They'll do business again today.
08:313.45 Eastern start, which is 12.45 out on the West Coast.
08:35Imanaga, the lefty, will be on the mound for the Cubs going up against Logan Webb, the right-handed pitcher of the San Francisco Giants.
08:41Total of this game, listed at 7.
08:43Favorite in this game overnight, minus 130 price towards San Francisco.
08:46That is dropped.
08:47You'll see the graphic at about a minus 116 price.
08:49Most outlets showing it basically as a true pick-em right now.
08:52Will the real Chicago Cubs please stand up, or are they going to get shut down again by Logan Webb?
08:58Yeah, I mean, Wisenhunt made you look stupid.
09:01What do you think Logan Webb at home is going to make you look like here?
09:05So, yeah.
09:05By the way, I mean, for whatever reason, we talked about it like the Phillies can't beat the Mets for whatever reason.
09:12You know, the Cubs lost the series in Chicago against the Giants, and the Giants, you know, looking to get the same thing done here at home.
09:21They have outscored during this little winning streak that they have right now, 28-9 the Giants.
09:28And they're starting to hit home runs, including Rafael Devers here.
09:32So, if we're going to get an under, this is probably the under game, right?
09:37Logan Webb at home has been much better than on the road.
09:40So, Imanaga has shown an ability not to be that great on the road this season.
09:45So, yeah.
09:46I think the under is in pretty good play here.
09:49We'll see if we get it over in Philadelphia tonight.
09:53645 start, 907-908 on the rotation.
09:56Atlanta Braves in town to take on the Philadelphia Phillies.
09:58They're so happy to be out of the Big Apple getting smoked by the New York Mets.
10:01Back-to-back-to-back nights here.
10:04They're the favorite today, though, with Aaron Nola on the mound.
10:07175s overnight, Joe.
10:07They're gone.
10:08Minus 188s up to minus 200s in the sports betting landscape, depending where your sports book is
10:13and where you're shopping.
10:14A total of nine overnight.
10:15You see that graphic.
10:16We're up to nine and a half across the board.
10:18Cal Quantrill, not a good pitcher, Joe.
10:20Last four starts for him.
10:21Four and a third innings pitch, seven earned.
10:23Then he dominated, I guess you could say.
10:25Four innings pitch, one earned run against Atlanta.
10:27Then he went back to being a tomato can versus Boston.
10:30Three and two-thirds innings pitch, seven earned runs.
10:32And his last start against the Mets, four and two-thirds, three earned runs.
10:36In that game, the Phillies, who couldn't hit the New York Mets over the final game of their series,
10:40coming home for some home cooking, they better hit Cal Quantrill tonight.
10:44I think they will.
10:45I think they will, too.
10:48Nothing like a little home cooking.
10:50And they've just got to be kicking themselves for playing the Mets right back into contention here.
10:56So, yeah, I like their chances.
10:58And, again, as long as Nola can feed off of that last outing where he looked much more like Aaron Nola,
11:04we know, than his first start off the I.L.
11:07But I think they're in good shape here tonight.
11:10And also, take a look at another game with the new, or excuse me, before we get to the New York Yankees,
11:14the Marlins and the Mets, the red-hot New York Mets.
11:17Now, here's the issue, right?
11:18The Mets handle the Philadelphia Phillies, Joe.
11:19What's their M.O.?
11:20Oh, we're going to take on the Fish?
11:22Eh.
11:22We dropped two or three games there.
11:24No big deal.
11:25And we'll see if we can fight it back.
11:26That's usually what takes place here.
11:27Major going to be on the mound here for the Marlins going up against Clay Holmes of the New York Mets.
11:32The Mets at home and a favorite anywhere between minus 245 to minus 250 in a total of eight and a half.
11:39Can we trust the Mets?
11:40Did they get real high and mighty off the Phillies and can continue that win streak?
11:43Or did they go in Mets fashion like it beat 3-1 by the Marlins tonight?
11:48Well, they're starting to hit again, which is great.
11:50But you're right.
11:51And we had mentioned it.
11:52You know.
11:53Grudal.
11:54I don't like the Clay Holmes situation.
11:56I think Clay Holmes, of course, is pitching more innings than he's ever pitched.
12:02Don't forget, this is his first year as a starter.
12:04He's always been a reliever.
12:06So we're getting to that point in the season where he might be wearing down a little bit.
12:11The Marlins were supposed to have Jason Junk pitch here.
12:14But I believe he's now on the 15-day IL.
12:17So they are kind of scrambling.
12:19Great opportunity for the Mets.
12:22But I think maybe more runs are coming here.
12:25I like the over in this game at Citi Field.
12:28Yeah, I got to do some work now because it was supposed to be junk there and show Mazur.
12:32Now, maybe it's a bullpen game and the Mets are hot at the plate.
12:35We'll see if that continues tonight.
12:36As that total is only listed at eight and a half.
12:38So you're expecting with that heavy favor with the Mets to do the heavy lifting.
12:4074, 75 degrees at first pitch.
12:42Wind blowing out the center field.
12:44Eight to nine miles per hour.
12:45Maybe that does help here.
12:47Let's get to the windy city of Chicago because the Yankees wish they were still at home and still playing against the Washington Nationals.
12:53They're going to take on the Chicago White Sox.
12:54It's Martin versus Warren.
12:56Heavy favor for the Yankees.
12:57No surprise.
12:58Overnight's around a minus 180 price, Joe.
12:59We're now seeing in the marketplace a minus 200 and higher depending where you're shopping at.
13:04Total of eight and a half.
13:05That's climbed to nine.
13:06I actually think we get runs tonight.
13:08I don't really like Davis Martin a ton and Will Warren.
13:10Certainly his metrics over the past 60 days analytically are a little bit high.
13:14And sneaky, sneaky are those White Sox at the plate.
13:17I think we might go over the nine tonight in Chicago.
13:20Yeah, I can see it.
13:22I mean, if they're not scoring nine, they're giving up 12 like they did yesterday against Kansas City here.
13:28So, yeah, I'm kind of with you.
13:30It's feast or famine with the White Sox.
13:32I mean, Will Warren coming off a not a great start last time out.
13:36But you got to like team totals here, don't you?
13:39I like the team total for the Yankees.
13:41I think they go up and over here in Chicago for this one.
13:46Eight total games on the card as we speculated here on this.
13:49One at 1 o'clock, three at 2 o'clock, one at 3 o'clock, and also 6.45, 7.10, and 7.40 later.
13:56Nice little mix of action.
13:58Sometimes you look at those short cards like, oh, I don't really have much to bet on.
14:01I'm telling you, there are some pitchers that I think you can sink your teeth into.
14:03We didn't even get to go over Miles Michaelis.
14:06Yeah, Pittsburgh stinks at the plate typically, but I don't think they're going to stink against Miles Michaelis today.
14:10And that minus 120 price for St. Louis in a total, that's at 8 to 8.5 where you're shopping at.
14:15Ashcraft, better pitcher.
14:17Maybe take the slight underdog with those buckles here to see if they can get it done.
14:20I'll tell you who else is going to get it done next.
14:22We got Cam Stewart coming up on the show.
14:25Some best bets, some winners across the sports landscape.
14:28It's the way we get down.
14:29It's a Thursday.
14:30We are setting the table on the early line for the Sportsman Network.
14:34Batter up, people.
14:35Let's go, Joe.
14:43Let's go, Joe.
14:44College football kickoff tonight.
14:45I got a feeling, Joe, by dinnertime, people are going to be wondering, watching their TV down somewhere in that South Florida range in Tampa, huh?
14:52I love it.
14:54Yes, I am.
14:55And I think that's where I'm going to look at 530 Eastern time, the kickoff temperatures, mid to upper 90s, plenty of humidity.
15:03It's a blackout game for the USF Bulls here.
15:09They'll be featuring their new black, all-black uniforms here.
15:14They're going on Boise State.
15:15That is just absolutely – it's all about reputation, right?
15:20They're a power five school.
15:22They're that school that's won more games like Ohio State and Alabama since 2003.
15:27Yes, but they lost all of their offensive production in the running back in Jente and their wide receivers last year.
15:35There are a lot of question marks.
15:38They're not as good defensively.
15:40And meanwhile, USF with Alex Golish as the head coach, coming from the Josh Heupel offensive mind back in 2022-23, love the up-tempo, love the temperatures and the spot here that South Florida players are going to be used to.
15:57Boise State players are not going to be used to.
15:59I think Byron Brown has a huge game.
16:02I don't need your points.
16:03I'm taking South Florida with the upset on the money line here tonight.
16:07Pull it up.
16:08Horns up down there.
16:09And also, by the way, trying to lead that way into that new brand-new stadium they're going to be getting in a couple years on their home campus there.
16:15USF, things looking up if they can knock off Boise State today.
16:19For me, I'm going to keep it simple.
16:20I like to do that.
16:21I'm going to take a Major League Baseball wager, and it's in Philadelphia tonight.
16:24So, Philadelphia Phillies taking only Atlanta Braves.
16:26I hate the way the Phillies played the past three nights.
16:28But you're only as good or as bad as the starting pitcher momentum that you have the next day.
16:32Cal Quantrill is on the mound here for the Braves.
16:34He's bad, people.
16:35His last 39 batters that he's faced on the left-hand side.
16:39How about a 294 ISO?
16:40How about a weighted-on-base percentage of 441?
16:43How about a hard contact rate of 63%?
16:46You know what I'm looking at tonight to have a resurgence?
16:48It's Bryce Harper.
16:49A 64% hard contact rate against right-handed pitching over the past month for him.
16:53It matches perfectly.
16:54So, I'm going to take two-plus bases for Bryce Harper, who, quite frankly, might hit a home run tonight.
16:59Easily cashed that at a minus 130.
17:01I'll grab the low-hanging fruit.
17:03You need offense tonight.
17:04Cal Quantrill is the perfect pitcher.
17:0675-degree temperatures with a light wind blowing out, Joe.
17:09Bryce Harper, come on now.
17:10Two singles, one double, one triple, one home run, whatever combination.
17:14Cash that ticket.
17:16All right.
17:16Listen, I am with you here.
17:18The Phillies need to get back at it offensively.
17:21And who better to do it than Bryce Harper leading the way?
Be the first to comment
