00:00You might watch a Triple Crown race, particularly the Kentucky Derby here, and down the stretch they come.
00:06Well, that's what's happening in Major League Baseball right now, as we are close to the end of the regular season.
00:10Roughly a week and a half, two weeks away, we're going to know exactly who's in and who's out,
00:15and who's going to try to win a championship.
00:17But a lot of things still have to be determined, which includes where you're going to sit in the seeding process.
00:21None closer than right now in the West, and that's the AL West.
00:25The Houston Astros, 84 victories on the season.
00:28The Seattle Mariners, 83 victories on the season.
00:31Tied in the loss column, a half-game lead right now for the Astros,
00:35fresh off of sweeping the Texas Rangers, who are now five back.
00:39If we're looking from a betting perspective of who could win this division, Joe,
00:43you're going to see here a minus 125 price for the Houston Astros,
00:46a minus 120 price for the Seattle Mariners.
00:48You're not even getting plus money.
00:50It's a de facto dead heat.
00:52So, Joe Ranieri, bring out that crystal ball.
00:54Who should you be betting in the AL West down the stretch to win this division?
01:00Yeah, it's kind of crazy because whoever does not win that has still got to get past, you know, what, Boston maybe?
01:08There's a few teams here that a lot has to be decided as far as who's going to get that final wildcard spot in the American League.
01:16So, winning the West is huge.
01:19Do we go with experience with Houston, who still doesn't have their full complement in the bullpen,
01:27which is interesting to say the least when we are rolling out Craig Kimball in the meantime?
01:33But if you can, if they can maintain and those bats stay the way they have been hitting,
01:40which is why they went out and got all those bats at the deadline, right?
01:44If they can do that, maybe get Alvarez back, I think it's Houston's to lose because we've seen this with Seattle a lot over the years.
01:53They're good, they're so good, but they're just not there yet.
01:58So, Seattle, I think, needs to win this so to prove to themselves that they can actually get this done, Donnie,
02:05because until I see it, it's kind of hard for me to believe it.
02:09Hal, the West was won, particularly in the AL West, but also a really close competition.
02:14The other West, that's the NL West, two California teams, the Dodgers and the Padres.
02:18Win column, 85 wins for the Dodgers, 83 wins for the San Diego Padres.
02:23Lost column, 67 for the Dodgers, 69 for the Padres.
02:27That's a two-game lead for the Dodgers over the Padres, but that's not a two-game price right there.
02:32Minus 800 for the Dodgers to win that division, the Padres at a plus 550 price.
02:39It seems like the Dodgers have been able to keep arm's length away from the Padres.
02:43Is there any chance over the final two weeks or so of the season,
02:45we can see something come back to form and the Padres can overtake those Dodgers.
02:52It's going to be, they're going to need help, the Padres are.
02:56They're going to need to get hot.
02:57They're going to need the Dodgers to maybe take a step back a little bit.
03:02Listen, neither has been, you know, running away with anything right now.
03:06You just saw the Cubs last night, Donnie, lock up that,
03:10what's likely going to be the number one seed there in the wild card.
03:14And then you've got, you know, the Padres who are five games better than the Mets right now.
03:19So it's the Dodgers to lose.
03:23I don't know that the Padres are going to go out and get it, but I also don't think,
03:26what's the point?
03:27You got to be in it to win it.
03:28The Padres firmly into the wild card spot.
03:32How about that NL race here?
03:34Now the Philadelphia Phillies in command, which is something we saw the Dodgers all season long.
03:38Now here's how it's playing out.
03:39The Phillies have a large lead over the Dodgers just in the race to if everybody,
03:43three division winners, the Phillies would have the leg up over the Dodgers
03:46because they have more wins.
03:47And certainly that was what the tiebreaker would be.
03:49So then the fact though, the Philadelphia Phillies would have home field advantage
03:52against the Dodgers in the playoffs.
03:54And that's the key.
03:55But to win the National League, the Phillies are at a plus 220 price.
03:57The Dodgers plus 290.
03:59The Brewers plus 350.
04:00Then that sort of fall out there between the Cubs, the Padres and the Mets.
04:04But the Phillies now entrenched as the odds favorite to win the National League.
04:10Yeah, listen, it's better than what we were getting a couple of months ago with the Dodgers
04:15where they were priced like we shouldn't even be bothering betting anybody else.
04:20But the reality is, I still think the Brewers are the best team and the team to beat in the
04:25National League.
04:26So the Phillies just got to hope they don't have to play the Mets before anybody else.
04:32Because that seems to be their big bugaboo there, Donnie.
04:34But that's the big race there is going to be.
04:37All right, who gets that final wildcard spot in the National League?
04:43And can they make a run?
04:45And that's going to be very interesting here.
04:48But the Phillies should be, at least in my opinion, the Phillies and the Brewers should
04:53be the favorites in order to win the National League pennant.
04:57Remember the trust factor just a few short weeks ago?
04:59Yeah, Tigers.
05:00Look at that.
05:00Tarek Skubel, top of the rotation here.
05:02Team looks good.
05:03They're in first place.
05:04They should be able to hold it down here as the odds-on favorite to win the American
05:07League, or at least the odds favorite here.
05:09That's not the case anymore.
05:10The American League odds go through the Toronto Blue Jays at a plus 280 price, followed by
05:14the Mariners at a 4-1 price.
05:16And then you see the Yankees at plus 410, along with the Detroit Tigers back to a plus
05:21410.
05:22How about that?
05:23The road goes through Canada in the American League, at least in the odds market.
05:28Yeah, kind of interesting, isn't it?
05:30They have been hot.
05:31And anybody who's expecting them to maybe take a step back here, they've done a great
05:37job of maintaining, right?
05:39But there's no Bichette, because he's shelled now.
05:43And they're hoping to get him back in the postseason.
05:45And that's a pretty big loss for Toronto, Donnie.
05:48And they need to get Bieber up to speed, too, as well, as he's trying to still shake the
05:53rust off.
05:54I worry about that bullpen of Toronto in the long term here.
05:58Do they have enough in order to be able to win an American League pennant?
06:02Not at that price.
06:05Three teams from the National League lead the World Series odds here, and they go in order.
06:10The Philadelphia Phillies at a plus 450 price, the Los Angeles Dodgers at a plus 550 price,
06:15and the Milwaukee Brewers at a plus 750 price.
06:18Then it's three straight American League teams, the Blue Jays, the Yankees, and the Mariners.
06:23So if we just start here simply, Joe, and I gave you one league to take, you'd be a fool
06:27not to take the National League, right?
06:30Yeah, again, I still think the best, the top three teams on there are probably the top
06:36three teams in Major League Baseball, American and National League, Donnie.
06:40So it only makes sense, although I could argue there is still some value down the board there
06:45with the American League, but, you know, seeing is believing, got to be able to get it done
06:50here.
06:50And all of those teams, by the way, have some warts, Donnie.
06:54There's some concerns with all of those teams winning it all.
06:58Ah, life is good.
07:00The Philadelphia Phillies on top of the sports landscape here in the NFL and also in Major
07:04League Baseball.
07:05Times certainly are good.
07:07Match made in heaven.
07:08No, I'm not talking about Donnie Wrightside and Joe Ranieri on the Sports Grid Network
07:12in the early line, even though I should be.
07:13But you know what else is a match made in heaven?
07:15Major League Baseball in the afternoon.
07:16NFL football at night.
07:19It meshes perfectly together.
07:20Get your information.
07:22Get your facts straight here.
07:23Win some money before you even get into that NFL game, which starts this afternoon, Joe.
07:281-10 start.
07:29We're going to Detroit.
07:30Tarek Skubal's on the mound today.
07:32Rib cage be damned.
07:33Coach, I'm fine.
07:34Put me in.
07:35I'm ready to play.
07:36Going up against Tanner Bybee.
07:37The spread in this game, or the line, I should say, minus 235 at the opening number.
07:40It now sits at minus 220, so a heavy favorite for the Detroit Tigers.
07:45A total, let's list it at 7.5.
07:47Mind you, Tanner Bybee on the road this year, which he will be the road pitcher.
07:5189 and two-thirds innings pitch, Joe.
07:53An ERA of 5.42 and an X-wip of 4.52.
07:56This looks like a nice bounce-back spot for those Detroit Tigers with Skubal on the mound.
08:00But can we trust Skubal at that big price point?
08:04Well, no.
08:06I mean, can we trust this Detroit team?
08:08How are they now just four and a half games ahead of the Guardians?
08:13They lost to Cantillo in the first game of the series.
08:16Yeah.
08:17They lost yesterday and get shut out there.
08:21Now, you know, Bybee, who's been not great on the road, let's be realistic here.
08:26But how much are you going to get out of Skubal?
08:29I don't know, Donnie.
08:31I mean, they had to skip, you know, they had to push him back here.
08:34He kind of got lit up last time.
08:36And he's had more and more of those bad outings since the All-Star break.
08:41So, this is a tough spot here for the Tigers.
08:46Not laying that kind of price because I don't know what we're going to get from Skubal.
08:50But keep an eye on him.
08:52He's going to be pretty important for them over the next couple of weeks heading into the postseason, to say the least.
08:58The question, though, is what are we going to get out of the first place Jays at this point here.
09:02And that's Bassett on the road taking on Shane Boz.
09:05You take a look at the side in this one.
09:06Open up overnight around a minus 125 price.
09:08You're not saying minus 122s to minus 130s, depending on where you're shopping at.
09:12And a total that's listed at eight.
09:14If you look at Shane Boz's home starts this year, he's got a 6.28 ERA and a 3.91 XFIP number, which is interesting.
09:21It means the XFIP is okay.
09:23The ERA is terrible.
09:24What wins out today?
09:25Does Toronto continue to click down in Tampa?
09:30Yeah, no, it has not been good for Shane Boz since July.
09:34He's given up a ton of walks, ton of home runs.
09:38He hasn't won in nine with over a 6 ERA.
09:42So it has not been good.
09:44But he has dominated the Blue Jays in his career.
09:483-0 with a 2.63 ERA.
09:50So what do we get?
09:52What version here?
09:53Bassett has not been great on the road this year.
09:55We all know he's much better at home.
09:58We got another under last night, right, Donnie?
10:01Are we getting runs today in an early afternoon game in Tampa?
10:05It feels like we might with these two.
10:08It does feel like we might.
10:09And also, how about this game?
10:10Are we getting runs with a nine total at Citi Field?
10:13Early start, 1-10 Eastern.
10:15Big game for the Padres.
10:16Big game for the Mets.
10:17Vasquez is on the mound going up against Tong.
10:19Now, if you look at this game overall, you say, all right, when I bring Tong up here, how's he going to do?
10:24First three starts.
10:26Five innings pitched.
10:27One, or excuse me, one earned run.
10:29But he gave up four runs total.
10:30Only one of those earned.
10:31Start number two at Cincinnati.
10:33Six innings pitched.
10:34Four runs.
10:35All four of those earned.
10:36Like, all right, slipping a little bit.
10:38Third start here against Texas at home.
10:41Two-thirds of an innings pitched.
10:43Six earned runs.
10:45And look at this, for Mr. Vasquez, his road starts on the season, Joe.
10:49Last on the car with an XFIP number of a 5.73 today through 60 innings pitched.
10:54We're getting runs today early at Citi Field.
10:59Yeah, I mean, outside of that little two-game winning streak, I mean, the Mets have lost nine of their last 11 games here.
11:07It has been apt.
11:08And the hilarious part is nobody who's been chasing them has been able to take advantage of what's going on here when you think about it.
11:17So, I don't know.
11:18The Mets are, you know, they're a falling knife to me.
11:22They are very hard to back.
11:23But I do think, to your point, what we might get here are some runs.
11:27And maybe a lot of them.
11:29So, I might be looking at a first five over in this one here, Donnie.
11:33Because the Mets got to come out swinging.
11:35They got to come out hot here.
11:37And I think they will against Vasquez here.
11:40So, I'm going to look at the, at the very least, the team total over for the Mets as well.
11:46Metropolitans early.
11:47Let's keep it in that 1 o'clock hour here.
11:48135 star in Boston today.
11:51Ginn versus Bayo.
11:52That's the Athletics taking on the Red Sox.
11:54A favorite here.
11:55Pretty heavy for Boston.
11:56Opened up overnight in the 150s.
11:57Still sitting there as you see the placard coming up at a minus 158.
12:00As high as 160 at BetMGM.
12:02And a total here of nine and a half.
12:05What's your expectations for the Sox after an extra inning win yesterday at five to four?
12:10Now, please.
12:12You should have lost that game.
12:13And, quite honestly, I don't know that they're going to win this game.
12:16Ginn's actually been very good here.
12:19But both of these teams have left a million guys on base in this series.
12:23There should have been a ton of runs.
12:25I think there are going to be a ton of runs back in this game here today, Donnie.
12:30So, I'd be looking at team totals over here for the Athletics that I think they're going to be able to get some big hits at big moments.
12:40Yo, home and away splits are an interesting category.
12:43Because usually you look at ballparks like, well, yeah, I want the home and away splits for the pitchers that pitch from Colorado.
12:47Because that's just not fair.
12:48Same thing, really, in Tampa and also in Sacramento.
12:50Because you bring up something there with JT Ginn.
12:53He's actually number one on the card today, Joe.
12:5637 innings pitched on the road.
12:58How about an ERA of 3.16, but an XFIP, microscopic at 2.56.
13:03Also, he is in another good hitter's ballpark.
13:05But anytime you can get outside of Sacramento, you can actually say, hey, guys, I'm actually a really good pitcher here.
13:10I just can't pitch in that minor league ballpark where everybody hits home runs.
13:13Kansas City and Seattle, Joe.
13:15210 Eastern today.
13:16Castillo on the mound versus Kolick.
13:18Across the board, the total listed at nine.
13:20A favorite for Seattle.
13:21Anywhere between 125 and 130, depending on where you're shopping at today.
13:25The bats came alive last night in Kansas City.
13:28Do they stay alive today?
13:30Yeah, and I like Kolick a lot for Kansas City.
13:34I give them the edge, certainly, early in this game.
13:37I don't like Castillo on the road.
13:40They snapped that long winning streak of Seattle last night, Donnie.
13:45That usually means probably going to maybe have a rough time here getting one back in the W column.
13:51I like Kansas City, but I like them in the first five.
13:54Nice weather, too, in Kansas City.
13:57In the heartland, Joe, 85 degrees with a nice wind blowing out around five to six miles per hour.
14:01Comfortable temperatures.
14:02We see if we can get those hits there.
14:04There is more Major League Baseball on the card today.
14:07Sandy Alcantara is going into the Rockies.
14:09And also, those New York Yankees that busted out the bats last night.
14:13Do you know where they're at today?
14:14Not in Minnesota.
14:15They're in Baltimore in need of a victory.
14:17And Max Fried is on the mound.
14:19All of those games and much more here.
14:21And fun.
14:21That's what we bring to the table.
14:23A lot of fun here on the early line on the Sports Grid Network.
14:26Joe Aniri, Donnie, writes that.
14:28It's just what we do.
14:29It's just what we do.
14:30Stay tuned.
14:31We got more on the way.
14:32Fried and Povich down in Baltimore today.
14:35And a hefty price on those New York Yankees.
14:37There's that Yankees tax we love.
14:39Opened up overnight at minus 205.
14:41Now sits anywhere between minus 196 to 206.
14:44Depending on where you are shopping at now.
14:46A total bouncing back and forth between eight and a half and nines.
14:49Fried Povich in Baltimore.
14:51The Yanks, can they continue to hit like they did last night?
14:56No reason to think they can't.
14:58No reason to think we're probably not going to have an opportunity to back the Yankees on the run line here on the road either.
15:07So Oreos, though, have been very good.
15:09Won again, but they always beat the White Sox.
15:11I mean, they haven't lost to the White Sox in Chicago since 2022.
15:17That is a team that the O's have just dominated over the years.
15:20This is a different animal here.
15:23Although they've been playing better, these O's.
15:26But ultimately, I think backing Fried, at least in the first five, Donnie, maybe lay that half a run for a better price is probably not a bad bet.
15:35It's probably popping on the plane last night for the Chicago Cubs as they clinched yesterday in Pittsburgh.
15:40A playoff spot got on a plane headed to Cincinnati.
15:43Cincinnati dying for one of those playoff spots.
15:45Hunter Green versus Colin Ray on the mound today.
15:48Light favorite here for the Reds at a minus 130 price up to.
15:51But it looks like between minus 125s and minus 130s, depending where you're shopping at.
15:54And the total, that's listed at nine.
15:56Colin Ray's road starts this year, Joe.
15:5854 in the third innings pitched.
16:00A 4.86 XF number, which is in that danger category.
16:03You're looking for maybe that jet lag hungover.
16:05We had too many beers and celebrated last night.
16:08Because again, Chicago's not going to chase down the Milwaukee Brewers.
16:11Difference that we talked about the Philadelphia Phillies.
16:13Hey, great.
16:13We clinched our division here, but we still got to chase down a team in front of us here.
16:17What are the expectations for you from a roster perspective, even for the Cubs today?
16:22Yeah, I mean, listen, it's again, the Cubs have had success against Pittsburgh all year long.
16:29In fact, I think they went 10 and three against them this year.
16:32So it was the right series at the right time for Chicago to finally get that postseason birth,
16:38something they have not had since 2020, Donnie.
16:42So yeah, I do think maybe a little bit of celebration here.
16:46Colin Ray on the mound for the Cubs.
16:49The good news for the Reds is that they finally won a game in St. Louis there.
16:53That game was yesterday afternoon as well.
16:55So they were able to get home.
16:57They've been here and they see what's going on with the Mets.
17:01In fact, there's probably a good shot, Donnie, that they will know the outcome of the Mets game when they start that game.
17:09And boy, if the Mets lose and you got Hunter Green on the mound and you can't win.
17:14And by the way, Hunter Green got lit up last go around there out West.
17:19So let's hope he's a little bit better today if you're a Reds backer.
17:23Kikuchi and Priester, that's the Angels and the Milwaukee Brewers.
17:26The Milwaukee Brewers, again, trying to stay in front of the Philadelphia Phillies for that number one overall seed in the National League.
17:31They come in as a high-priced favorite overnight around a minus 200.
17:35Right now, looking at that minus 190 territory, depending where you're shopping at, a couple cents either way.
17:40The total listed at eight.
17:41If you look at Kikuchi's road starts this year, 83 in two-thirds innings pitched, a 5.16 ERA.
17:46Priester's been pretty good at home for Milwaukee.
17:48Is this a runaway victory for those Milwaukee Brewers today?
17:53Just, we talked about it all week.
17:55Give me the team total over for Milwaukee against worst teams and worst pitchers here.
18:01Kikuchi on the road, you had new.
18:05Priester never loses a game for Milwaukee, but you know what?
18:08They scored at least nine runs, it feels like, every game.
18:12So, I'll take the team total up and over, Donnie, for the Milwaukee Brewers.
18:16If it ain't broke, let's not fix it.
18:18San Francisco and the Los Angeles Dodgers, 10-10 tonight from Dodger Stadium.
18:23Chavez Ravine-Webb versus Yamamoto, a favorite here for the Dodgers, give or take 160 to 165,
18:28depending where you're shopping at, and the total, which actually opened up overnight at eight,
18:31that's down to seven and a half across the board.
18:33The Dodgers would love nothing more than to put some of those final nails in the coffin
18:38of the 2025 season for the San Francisco Giants.
18:41Webb is the best pitcher that the Giants have.
18:43Nice victory yesterday in extra innings.
18:45Now they go to the Dodgers and level up and try to get a victory today.
18:48What are you seeing today from this game?
18:51Yeah, that was in Chase Field.
18:53That was an afternoon, late afternoon game yesterday as well.
18:56But, I mean, what a pitcher's duel that was yesterday.
18:59But now, with Webb on the mound, going to the Dodgers, who finally bounced back against
19:04the Phillies, they got the right guy.
19:06Yamamoto's been their guy all year long.
19:09Feels like an under to me, though, Donnie, any which way I slice it here.
19:13Yeah, by the way, I think the Giants only had one hit, as you said, going into extra innings
19:18yesterday and then played it five runs.
19:19So, shout out if you actually had a team total to the under on the Giants.
19:22Like, I nailed that.
19:23They had one hit through nine innings, and I lost my team total in extras.
19:27That's a shame to do it here.
19:28But it is Major League Baseball.
19:29A lot of afternoon action today.
19:31Four games on the night slate.
19:32And again, that Thursday night football game between the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins
19:36certainly on deck as well.
19:38Now, you know what we're going to do, Joe?
19:39We're going to take the binoculars out.
19:41We're going to skip through Thursday night.
19:42We're going to skip through Friday and Saturday and take a look at some of those big board games
19:46from Sunday to get you prepared for the NFL.
19:49It's what we do.
19:49We only look out for the people watching this show.
19:51Getting you prepared is what we do.
19:53And we'll be back next.
19:58Major League Baseball seems like it's going to be on the docket.
20:05Afternoon action, Joe.
20:06Where are we going?
20:09Yeah, so there are a lot of afternoon action, but I'm going to choose one of these games starting
20:14a little bit later here, Donnie.
20:16And I am going to look at the Cincinnati Reds.
20:21By the time this game and the first pitch comes off, you're going to have the Reds are
20:26going to know whether what the outcome of the Mets and Padres game was.
20:31And if the Padres pull it out and beat the Mets here, well, the Reds are going to be salivating
20:36because the Cubs just clinched the number one wildcard spot and they're in.
20:42So there is not a lot going on here, Donnie, for the Cubs to play for.
20:46Hunter Green on the mound for the Reds.
20:48They're ace.
20:50This is a spot that it's just too good at this price, not to back them at home.
20:54And that's exactly what I'm going to do.
20:55Getting some CLV now, as I see Fandle move to Justin White, that's 134.
21:01DraftKings minus 144.
21:02BetMGM minus 145 on the right side.
21:05So you don't even have to theoretically win this game, Joe.
21:07You got CLV.
21:08That's all your job is, correct?
21:10You don't have to win it anymore.
21:12I've got an entire bookshelf filled with CLV trophies, Donnie.
21:16Yes.
21:17Yes.
21:17And another one.
21:19How about a trophy we wanted to go 2-0?
21:21I'm headed to New York City.
21:22I'm going to Queens and I'm headed down to Citi Field.
21:25That's the San Diego Padres taking on the New York Mets.
21:27Vasquez versus Tong.
21:29Tong's not a great pitcher, but I'm focusing on Randy Vasquez.
21:31One of those guys that's slippery, right?
21:33Super high XFIP numbers because he walks too many people, not get a lot of the strikeouts.
21:38But I do think the Mets bats come to play today in a pivotal game for actually both of these teams.
21:42I'm taking the New York Mets at a minus 132 price to knock off the San Diego Padres at 1 o'clock.
21:49So here's what's going to happen.
21:50Before dinner time, I'll cash my ticket.
21:53Then you want some dessert.
21:54Joe Ranieri steps up to the table with the Cincinnati Reds and handles his business at 7 o'clock.
21:59That sounds like a good night, Joe, doesn't it?
22:02Win, win, Donnie, is what it sounds like to me here.
22:07And that's it.
22:08I mean, win a game before you have lunch and then win one right after dinner.
22:13So you're good to go here tonight.
22:14You're good to go here tonight.
22:14You're good to go here tonight.
