00:00All right. Welcome back into the early line here on the Sports Grid Network as we get ready to unveil a new segment here on the show each and every week.
00:12Obviously, when it comes to handicapping sports, wagering on sports, knowledge is power and understanding some of the intricacies of what's going on with the market and certain games.
00:24Well, it's pretty vital to making sure that you are a profitable handicapper at that.
00:30And we've got a couple of new spread lines that we want to talk about with you here because we have seen significant line movement in a few very big games this weekend, especially in college football.
00:43And one of the games that we're talking about here is Notre Dame, who is fresh off that beatdown of Purdue.
00:49Well, now they've got to travel to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks, who, if you've been watching this show, you know how much I have been screaming and yelling about the Razorbacks because they have invented new ways to lose games the last couple of weeks.
01:03But now they are home. And this game opened up as Notre Dame being a six-point road favorite.
01:09But guess what? It's now down to minus four at most places, even a couple of three and a half starting to pop in.
01:17And now what's ironic about this is the public loves the fighting Irish.
01:21We all know with the public money, the majority of tickets all on Notre Dame.
01:27But the line keeps moving towards Arkansas. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a clear pros versus Joe situation here.
01:35And I get it because two starting defensive backs out for Notre Dame.
01:40They were out last week in that Purdue game.
01:42They also were without their kicker, Noah Burnett.
01:46He also missed that game against Purdue.
01:48And he likely will be out again.
01:50So this is a very banged up Notre Dame team that is struggling defensively.
01:56Now it has to hop in a plane, head to Arkansas in a very hostile environment.
02:01Keep an eye on the injury news for Notre Dame, because I think if this line hits to minus three, I'll be jumping on Notre Dame.
02:11And we're seeing the same pros versus Joes in the Ole Miss versus LSU game coming up this weekend here.
02:18This game, look ahead, was LSU minus three.
02:23The game opened up LSU minus one and a half as a road favorite at Ole Miss.
02:29And the ticket count again, all public money, all the public running, in fact, and backing LSU as the road favorite.
02:37The problem is LSU is no longer the favorite.
02:40Ole Miss now is the favorite.
02:42So this line reached as high as minus two and a half for Ole Miss yesterday.
02:46Then we started to see the buyback.
02:48So we've seen the pros just turn Ole Miss from a home dog to a home favorite.
02:55I'm watching LSU money, though, because I'm waiting here just until about kickoff, because I believe once this game gets a little bit closer to Saturday, this is a nationally televised game.
03:07I would not shock me if this game goes to a pick them.
03:11But forget the spread.
03:12This is one of those situations where don't get caught up, minus one and a half, a pick up, just bet the winner, pick the money line, and you'll be good to go in this game.
03:24But the pros, clearly on Ole Miss in that spot there.
03:29And one other game, too, that is of interest is with Cal traveling across the country to play Boston College.
03:36Now, this is a situation in which we just watched Cal get upended by San Diego State.
03:42And when I say upended, blanked, 34 to nothing.
03:46Now they've got to travel all the way to the East Coast, from California all the way to Boston to take on BC, who's coming off a bye week.
03:56Problem is here, this is their first long road trip.
03:59It's not like they've been traveling all over the country yet.
04:02You can thank the ACC for bringing West Coast teams into its conference because that's what's going to be happening from here on out.
04:10But Boston College has had a week to lick its wounds because they got absolutely smoked by Stanford the last time we saw them play.
04:19Yes, that's Stanford, who didn't know who their coach was going to be, had to turn over the entire roster, a terrible team.
04:27And yet, Bill O'Brien, the head coach of Boston College, figured out a way to lose that game.
04:31On the other side, you've got Justin Wilcox, Cal's head coach.
04:35The guy has been an ATM machine, is an underdog.
04:38He is now getting six points in this game.
04:41It's rising to six and a half.
04:45Cal turned the ball over and shot themselves in that 34 to nothing loss to San Diego State a million times.
04:52I am backing and waiting till that line hits seven.
04:55Once I can get a touchdown with Cal, and it's going to happen, I'll be all over the Cal Bears, plus the points, plus I'll be sprinkling on the money line in that.
05:06Let's transition here to college football action.
05:09Who would have thought that the AP Top 25 is out?
05:11And the Ohio State Buckeyes are number one.
05:14We're going to talk about them in just a few moments.
05:15The Miami Hurricanes, Joe, up to number two, Penn State three, LSU four, UGA five.
05:22Look at that.
05:23What do you have?
05:23One, two teams, two teams in the SEC, one team in the ACC, two teams in the Big Ten as we head into possibly October football in just a week.
05:32And huge week, because it's put up a shut-up time for some of these teams that have scheduled nothing but cupcakes, Donnie, to start the season without truly being tested.
05:44Are you, right, the U, Miami?
05:47You know, they've played ranked teams over and over and over and just beat Florida as well.
05:53So, you know, some of these teams like Penn State, what are we going to get from them here, Donnie, this week?
05:59Yeah, who knows?
06:01But I know we're going to get a good game, and that's going to be a whiteout in-state college here.
06:04But before we get there, let's head down to the SEC.
06:07Night game, Joe.
06:08Alabama and Georgia opening line, four and a half.
06:11We're now seeing two and a halves and threes in the marketplace.
06:14A total of 52 and a half.
06:16Both teams, Joe, bye weeks should be good to go for this game.
06:19Number 17 versus number five.
06:22Well, the question is, which version of these two teams shows up, right?
06:26Because we've seen a couple of different versions here.
06:29Georgia has been very good at home in this series over the years with Kirby Smart.
06:34That goes back even to, you know, the Saban years here.
06:37He is a former Saban coach.
06:39Don't forget.
06:40He's a disciple.
06:41But right now, what I've seen from both quarterbacks, you've got to give Gunnar Stockton the edge,
06:46especially at home here.
06:48Is it more than a field goal game?
06:51I think that's what it is, Donnie.
06:53I think one of these two teams is going to win.
06:55It's going to win by margin.
06:56Kevin Skarbinski tweeted out yesterday, fun fact, looking forward to Alabama-Georgia, Joe.
07:02Did you know this?
07:03This will be the seventh time in the last 12 meetings and third straight that Georgia is
07:08ranked higher than Alabama in the AP poll.
07:10Georgia's record in those previous matchups, Joe?
07:13Oh, and six.
07:15Uh-oh.
07:16Yeah, yeah, not good here.
07:19Not good at all.
07:20But I've got to tell you, it's a new year.
07:22It's a new team.
07:23And in the era of NIL, it really doesn't make a difference, those trends and those stats
07:28anymore, Donnie, because half the teams, three-quarters of these teams, have never played with one
07:33another and have absolutely no history to those trends at all.
07:37Well, you don't mean like going back to 1991 to see how many times Alabama beat Georgia
07:41factors into a game in 2025?
07:42You don't say there, do you, Joe?
07:45But how about this one?
07:46Let's get into it.
07:47Oregon and Penn State, another night game.
07:49By the way, Alabama-Georgia, 730.
07:51Oregon-Penn State, 730.
07:52You better make sure you have that second screen experience right here with the Sports
07:56Grid Network to keep you updated on all the latest.
07:58And by the way, Penn State is a favorite, Joe.
08:00Opened up at 3.5, still sits at 3.5.
08:02The total in this game, 52.5, even 51.5 in the marketplace.
08:06Make sure you're shopping around to get the best possible pricing.
08:09But hear me out on this.
08:10Oregon is really good.
08:12Penn State is really good.
08:13But I look at Penn State and go, are you ready for prime time at this point?
08:17But then I look at Oregon and say, are you ready for prime time at this point?
08:20This is a collision in State College this weekend.
08:23It truly, truly is.
08:25And again, what are we going to get?
08:28We do know that Coach Franklin has had a problem taking down teams that are ranked,
08:34oh, I don't know, top five or six.
08:36The better teams he has not been able to get past here.
08:39And don't forget, this look-ahead line, Donnie, was six and a half.
08:43And it's now down to three and a half.
08:45So the money has been on Oregon thus far this week.
08:50How about that?
08:51I mean, I love it.
08:52I love the atmosphere.
08:53I love the pomp and circumstance, the pageantry.
08:55You're going to get that both at Penn State and also Sanford Stadium down there in Athens,
08:59Georgia.
08:59But if we keep moving on, how about the number one team in the country, Joe?
09:02Oh, it should be a let-up out there at Washington.
09:04Watch out.
09:04If you've never been to Husky Stadium, and quite frankly, I haven't been, but watching
09:08on TV, there is a reason why big plays are made at Husky Stadium and the camera shakes.
09:13That place is absolutely a soundproof barrier that keeps in all the sound on the field.
09:19This will be an interesting one to play out.
09:21The look-ahead lines, Joe, at some outlets, 13 and a half.
09:24We're down to eight and a half as a favor for Ohio State.
09:27The total at 51 and a half.
09:28Could we be on?
09:30Upset alert in the Big Ten with the number one team in the nation, Joe.
09:33Well, if it's not, it's going to be an absolute demolishing by Ohio State, right?
09:40But the big question is going to be, what exactly are we going to get from a young quarterback
09:47under center for Ohio State on his first really big test on the road?
09:53And those are the kinds of questions, Donnie.
09:55We haven't had a chance to see it, but we're going to see it in a big way here for Ohio State
10:00coming off a bye week of all things and an extra week to prepare.
10:03Oh, yes, we do.
10:05And by the way, I hope we have this tweet available here on X.
10:09LSU Ole Miss, some chicanery going on behind the scenes here.
10:14Do you know what that is?
10:15Lane Kiffin's daughter is dating star middle linebacker for LSU before the game.
10:21They went public, Joe.
10:23And by the way, Ole Miss is a favorite at minus one and a half.
10:25This game is going to be played in the Grove, a 55 and a half total.
10:29Love to see it in the SEC.
10:30See, 3-30 game, Joe.
10:32So you got the coach, the daughter, the superstar linebacker.
10:36How would she be dating him?
10:37And also, can she get some information to hand back to Pops here for a big win for Ole Miss?
10:42Well, and, you know, Donnie, we talked about this on the spread lines earlier.
10:46And this is a game there.
10:48The look-ahead line was LSU minus three, minus three and a half.
10:53Now, Ole Miss was not expected to be undefeated at this point here.
10:57But guess what?
10:58It opened up minus one and a half.
11:00LSU is a favorite.
11:01They're not the favorite anymore, Donnie.
11:03It is flipped.
11:05So now they're a slight home favorite, Ole Miss, instead of a slight home dog against LSU.
11:11So maybe the market thinks there's something into that relationship and the info they might have.
11:17I got to tell you, Joe, it's time to get excited again in college football.
11:20Like, it felt like week zero was a letdown.
11:22Like, okay, football's back, but the game stunk.
11:24Week number one was absolutely fantastic.
11:26We have a ton of really good football games all throughout the afternoon.
11:30And then that banger at night, 7.30, Oregon and Penn State, 7.30 with Alabama and Georgia.
11:35It doesn't get any better than that.
