00:00I'm standing outside the school of an impactful 12 year old changemaker whose life focus revolves

00:15around conservation especially when it comes to frogs and the rainforest ever since I was

00:20little I just love frogs now what this conservationist doesn't know is his

00:24environmental club teacher has nominated him this kid's going way above and beyond for a surprise

00:30celebration recognizing his global efforts in raising both awareness and money for our planet

00:36we really need to make sure that our party really looks like a rainforest and a very special guest

00:41and dear friend Jonathan Bennett stops by teamwork lace so join me as we jump into celebrating

00:47our eco hero Justin

00:51my name is Lacey Chabert and this is my mission

00:56I find unsung heroes doing amazing work in their communities and neighborhoods

01:01it's time for them to shine

01:07we're working with family friends and top party planners

01:13Marissa Lehner and Lisa Friedman job well done yay well done ladies

01:18we only have three days to create epic parties for our heroes

01:32now let's get ready to celebrate

01:43hi how are you great how are you good excited you guys look so cute i feel like you dress

01:54alike in the best of ways i love it we are always matching actually unfortunately sometimes we don't

01:59find out till we get there and we're in the like twins outfit yes and then it's like okay let's not

02:04stand next to each other i love it well i am so excited to share this hero with you he's a young man

02:11who is doing so much incredible work in his community to raise awareness for environmental

02:16conservation and it's something that he has been doing for many years so shall we watch the video

02:20yeah

02:26my name is Justin and i love frogs i learned that frogs were dying from pollution pesticides and people

02:33put it down in their homes so it was like well i need to help so that's how my project kind of started

02:41i started my frog project in kindergarten and i used to sell these toy frogs for one dollar and then

02:50donate it to different organizations and my idea has grown a lot and now i'm helping to protect the

02:59rainforest and the world's oceans i would like to nominate my student justin and for several reasons

03:06he's quite amazing in ways that you wouldn't see firsthand he's very quiet reserved and you have

03:13to peel back those layers and you realize wow how many things that this kid is involved in the things

03:19that he's doing it's truly impressive i think he just wants to make a difference in the world and he

03:25wants to help people and animals and really make the world a better place i have saved almost 80 acres

03:32of land in ecuador and my goal is to get 100 acres by my birthday the way i fundraise for

03:40the rainforest is i partner with a lot of organizations like reserva sometimes i like to present

03:49my project to my schools and hopefully get people to start their own he does have to sacrifice like

03:55sometimes these big events come on other fun things he's had to miss soccer games he's had to miss

04:02baseball games but he knows and his heart apart like this is his passion and this is what he needs

04:07to do okay and i'm not gonna cry he's definitely a role model to see him grow and see him flourish

04:15and the ideas flourish too that's amazing i hope everybody does their part big or small to help the

04:21planet for me saving frogs means saving our planet isn't he incredible amazing so what do you think

04:30very special boy very very special i think it's so incredible with someone when someone at you know

04:35a young age finds something that they're so passionate about yes and a cause to fight for

04:39and to learn and to help educate others but look how much he's done what he's accomplished the fact

04:44that he's already saved 80 acres of land in ecuador and his goal is to have 100 and that's one of his

04:49birthday wishes i mean just an incredible kid so smart so devoted and let's do something to make him

04:55feel incredibly special absolutely all right so i think we go to the school we speak with mr

04:59tremble we get some more information we ask some questions and i feel like we're onto a good theme

05:03here perfect let's do it all right let's go speaking of animals you want to hear a funny story my parents

05:15who rescue all the dogs also my mom is taken to the neighborhood wildlife animals and they have a little

05:22a little family of frogs that comes like out of hibernation to their back porch every year i feel

05:29like when all of us children moved out of the house my mom started taking in dogs to replace us almost

05:35and so she never had an empty nest it's always been a bull and by nest i mean literally animals

05:39every year they come back yes and they stay there for a certain amount of time she gives them bugs and

05:45like little pools of water and then they go and they hibernate they show up again during winter

05:49i can't wait to talk to mr trumbull about justin justin is actually in class so that we wouldn't

05:55bump into him and give anything away hi mr trumbull i'm lacy hi lacy it's very nice to meet you we're

06:03so happy to be here for many reasons can't wait to hear more about justin and we were so impressed

06:08by everything that you said about him and everything that he's doing and especially at such a young age

06:13so we're thrilled to be able to surprise him i'm really excited for him and because of the work that

06:18he's done i think this is going to be fantastic and what's justin like as a student he's a great

06:23kid i mean every anytime you get a student that is goes above and beyond as a teacher i mean we're

06:29so excited and he's kind of on the quieter side so he doesn't draw a whole lot of attention he's very

06:35reserved in that sense and for me personally i had no idea of the extent of the work that he had gotten

06:43involved with until i started to work with him until i had the opportunity to kind of see like

06:47wow this kid's going way above and beyond and he's able to motivate other kids too which is fantastic

06:54yeah we were referring to him as a change maker yes it sounds like he is that yeah it sounds like

06:59justin is spending a lot of time making a huge impact it's so impressive um but it sounds a bit

07:04serious sometimes so i want to surprise him with a celebration that just celebrates him being a kid

07:09all of his friends around something that would just be incredibly fun can you help us with

07:13some ideas maybe for the theme or anything that would be rainforest themed something with frogs we

07:19can get creative you know okay rainforest decor beautiful cool okay can you make it rain not yet

07:26we have not yet but let us brainstorm this might be the one this might be the one you know we like to

07:31get inspiration walk around try to see more about justin yeah why don't you go check out the

07:37classrooms and then if you want i can take you to go meet the kids that'd be great does that work

07:41okay awesome thank you we'll see you after all right okay

07:49this must be the earth science room the tree and these plants we really need to make sure that our

07:55party really looks like a rainforest maybe we can bring something in yeah something alive and green

08:00yeah i want there to be lots of plants out there props yeah i mean props not cheesy ones no but it

08:07all right all the prop companies that we go to they have the oversized animals the oversized trees

08:12and that's all eco-friendly because it's reusable right from party to party so we need to be eco-friendly

08:17for this party for sure no straws no plastic bottles no so we'll do glassware as many reusable

08:24things as we can yep i like that let's try to create the least waste possible definitely that's a good

08:29challenge for us yes they're on it i just want to make sure it all feels authentic

08:36so lacy these are some of the guys from the environmental club this is uh noah and we've got

08:41stephen and eli and emmet right here for you so and this is lacy guys so nice to meet you and is it

08:49okay if she joins you for a second of course that's fine all right well i gotta run i get out another

09:03about justin are you friends with justin yes yes justin's a big part of helping the environmental club

09:10grow because it makes people get interested in it and want to help also and is he someone who is kind of

09:16leads the pack i mean is he yeah yeah he usually like gets like all the ideas well we like brainstorm

09:22but he usually like sparks the ideas and then we come together to make like a good project that's

09:28so awesome and how does it feel when you've done something to make a difference it feels really really

09:32good like accomplishing something for it just helps us feel better especially in this world that we're

09:38living right now it's not too great especially environmental wise and doing even doing something

09:42small to help that it just feels great that's so awesome

09:46oh look lisa there's real frogs in here where where do you see that little guy in here here's

09:54another one right here oh my goodness look how tiny i think we're waking him up it's kind of giving me

10:01stink eye a little bit you see it okay let's let's take these as our yes to remind us as our uh to

10:07court the party yeah about frog town over here i like it when i got the opportunity with justin to

10:15see like what he's done and stuff it helps me because i also learned everybody says like someone

10:23else will do it but in reality there's very few that will and justin just helped me begin to start

10:30helping the environment you guys are being the change that you want to see and it's so impressive

10:35and i'm really really inspired so thank you so much for hanging out with me and taking a minute

10:39to chat thank you i learned a lot of course i can't wait to see what else you do i've learned so

10:45much about justin and his friends from visiting with the environmental club i mean justin is a

10:49natural leader he cares so much and he's inspired so many kids around him to really be change makers in

10:55the world i want to throw him the most epic rainforest themed party but we have two days to do it so we

11:01better get to work i want to find a good place for the candy sweet table i'm just not sure if it's

11:15definitely going to be here good morning party people hi hello hello hi my favorite ladies how's it

11:22going i feel like i've walked into the rainforest oh good yes these are all of our props for the party

11:27really really amazing and i got to meet with the kids from the environmental club they absolutely

11:32blew me away i mean they're just so ambitious so intelligent you know again our hero is inspiring

11:37those around him and it's just awesome he's inspiring us to make sure this party is as eco-friendly as

11:42possible perfect i love that idea so have we settled on a venue yet we found an incredible space it's

11:48perfect it really is really it's a private rainforest retreat oh so it has already all the living trees

11:54everything's green already and it has like this cool pool in the middle kind of looks like a lagoon

11:59a little bit so it'll be really fun marissa do you want to show her on the screen yeah sure so the goal

12:04of this party is to make justin and his friends really feel like they're on a rainforest expedition

12:10so we're thinking about creating these expedition crates that we can sprinkle around the event space

12:17um just to bring that feeling of adventure and also to use as maybe tabletops oh that's a great idea

12:25right here there's this great built-in tiki bar and we want to do a treat station there i love that great

12:33the good news is that the greenery is there so what we need to bring in is the life the animals the

12:39characters who you would see in a rainforest but the prop house has like a giant elephant we can use

12:44really maybe we can have some monkeys hanging from the trees that are already there so the kids can

12:48really feel like they're in the rainforest it'll add a lot to the decor of the party though scale too we

12:53don't want just a bunch of little things we want some big things too i love that idea yeah is there

12:57a chance where we can have real frogs i feel like that might be tricky justin just loves them so much

13:03i just thought maybe there's a way to have an actual they will be in the decor but we should have like

13:07a i know to actually feel like you are with the frogs i know right like a feeling of an authentic

13:12frog being there right rather than stuffed animal oh i know what we could do what about a hologram

13:19they have a company that can beam a frog in okay well let's find the frog in to the center of the

13:26party yes it's a hologram machine she's got a guy you know a guy i do then we went to a vendor who

13:34specializes in props that we use all the time party works has a giant rock climbing wall wow rock

13:41climbing wall yes i love that so i'm working on a special project that i'm really excited about

13:49because you know justin has been working really hard to save the rainforest so he wants to save

13:53100 acres by the time of his birthday he's very close so this can be hopefully a celebration of him

13:58reaching his goal i love that i have a really good idea that i want to surprise him with so i'm working

14:03on it can't wait to see it i know okay so i feel like we have a lot to do okay i'll do a little bit

14:08of a cleanup and then we'll meet up later okay thank you thank you so much this location is a natural

14:13rainforest oasis and the perfect backdrop for this party and because of the natural setting being so

14:18perfect for our theme we only have to focus on bringing in the big ticket items like the rock climbing

14:23wall lisa also has this amazing idea for this frog hologram that i'm really excited about

14:27and i'm hoping she can pull that off okay we've got guests hey welcome i'm lisa hey lisa nice to

14:37meet you hi i'm david nice to meet you party yes of course uh our technology could beam anybody from

14:45anywhere to anywhere and you can beam into a party you could beam into a convention so it's actually really

14:51amazing technology so justin is really into tech he's really into um science and i think anything

14:58that could be you know an immersive experience for him and his friends i think would be really yes

15:04very cool so we should definitely check out some of the things that we can do okay yeah a hologram

15:09booth is something unique and you don't see it all the time so we definitely need to figure out a way

15:14we could bring this into the party do you guys want to try this out yes want to see what you look like

15:18he's a hologram i would love to yeah you have the little frog a little thing oh yeah am i squishing

15:28it no he's resilient he's okay yeah is there a cat on my head she hates cats it must smell my cat

15:36i hate it please set it up get it up i know it's on i can see the picture i see that it's on my head

15:43okay we definitely need to incorporate this yes tech it's rainforest it's all the things

15:48that justin's into i know and it's the missing piece that we need for this party yes all right

16:02for the last four years justin has been working with a company to help save the rainforest called

16:06reserva so i wanted to meet with its founder and director callie i wanted more information on

16:12what it's like for the two of them to have been working together for the past four years and

16:16hear more about their plans for the future hi callie i'm lacy hey lacy so nice to meet you it's so nice

16:22to meet you too thank you so much for jumping on a call with me what is it about justin that makes

16:27him a standout member of reserva justin joined reserva way at the beginning back in i think it was the

16:33start maybe the end of 2019 and um when he joined he was only nine years old wow and he was super

16:43passionate about frogs but what made him really stand out was his ability to commit to getting on

16:50zoom calls or getting in front of classrooms and sharing what we're doing with hundreds of other

16:56students in fact i'm pretty sure he reached thousands of other students wow i hear that he's

17:02trying to save a hundred acres of the rainforest by his 13th birthday and i think he's pretty close

17:08and we're trying to figure out some ways we can possibly help with that he needs to raise five

17:13thousand five hundred dollars all right good to know so i heard that you and justin have never met is

17:18that true that is true it's kind of amazing i've spent so much time with him on zoom but we've never

17:25managed to connect in person i can't believe that cali and justin have never met and i want to do something

17:30to give back both to justin and kelly well i was thinking and i know this is very very very last

17:36minute but what would it mean to you to meet him in person connecting with him would it would mean a lot

17:43to me um four years is a third of his life wow and that's how long we've been working together so i think

17:54being able to see each other in 3d would be um yeah it would be life-changing and i bet it would be the

18:02same for him thank you so much cali this has been wonderful no problem see you soon

20:45party oh no but good news is lisa remembered this incredible sound stage and the best news is that

20:53it's available yes tomorrow yes you always have you always have a backup plan i love it

21:07hello hello hey it's lisa hey lisa how are you i have some really bad news and i just feel so awful

21:26about it i am so sorry but um my father-in-law is not doing well and we are getting on a plane to go visit

21:32him in cleveland and i am just so sorry oh lisa i'm so so sorry to hear this no of course you have

21:39to be with your family and i hate to tell you this but we have a little bit more bad news marissa's

21:46daughter has a really bad case of the flu and she needs to take her daughter to the pediatrician

21:51oh i'm sorry to hear that too so she can't make it today either

21:54um so you and marissa are not gonna be here today i know and this is why i just feel so terrible i feel

22:05just like i'm completely leaving you but no it's okay um you've taught me well and i will figure it

22:12out and i'll make you proud so now i'm gonna be all alone for setup of this party and i'm freaking out

22:17a little bit i just want to let you know i have called every vendor okay it's confirmed what time

22:24you're arriving i've sent everyone the floor plans scheduled events i've submitted all of the

22:28certificates of insurance i just don't feel like i can do this alone i definitely need some help so

22:33i'm thinking about who i could call to save the day so yeah today's gonna be a little crazy and i'm

23:05like family honestly your biggest challenge today is you're not allowed to play at this party as we're

23:10setting up i cannot promise that but we'll try we'll do our best okay i feel very professional

23:14today yes you're very not this is not a normal look for you with like a binder but i'm kind of into

23:19it like i like this look lacey chabert is one of the best people i have ever met in my entire life

23:26and i mean that she is as good and even better than you want her to be can i look in your notebook

23:32no you can't you write in cursive of course i do you're the only person i know that writes in cursive

23:37still what do you write in i just type come on what are we doing well i like things written down

23:42feels more okay fine you're very organized thank you so much okay tell me what we're doing so i'm

23:46gonna give you the replaying attention really yes okay here is the screen best part this whole screen

23:51is going to be a waterfall you're going to feel like you're in the rainforest oh my gosh and then

23:55we have a rock climb wall i should probably test it to make sure that it's good before the kids get

24:01here okay safety first so and then we're gonna have food back here set up the food tables

24:09okay and then a hologram that's what i need your help with the most i have no idea how to set that up

24:14you think i know how to set up a hologram i was hopeful no no but we'll figure it out we'll figure

24:19out that's what we do and then we have this incredible ice cream station and then we have

24:23some other special surprises which i hope you can help me with to give him totally awesome are you

24:28done yeah i'm done okay great that climbing wall is gonna rock here we go let's go

24:34this is really pretty and then tie it together speaking of teamwork i was a boy scout of the two

24:49of us like who should go up the ladder to do this do you think i'll go up the ladder you're way too

24:53valuable to hallmark okay we can't lose you we need someone to save christmas lacy you're not going up on

24:58a ladder okay rockets coming in is that the rock wall did you think it would be that tall it's even

25:04bigger than i imagined oh my gosh this is amazing tell me it fits tell me it fits

25:15this makes me really nervous lace no wait no right there that little bar it's right in the way

25:22oh no you've got to be kidding me i think this rock wall is too tall it's not gonna fit

25:28i am a little worried because i don't know that the rock wall is going to come up yeah pull it

25:37forward yeah keep pulling this is the centerpiece of our party there you go and then re-velcro we might

25:42have to just take it out i don't know stay tuned look at this this is amazing thank you um

25:53i'm gonna have to actually help you okay here you go and i'm gonna turn over mr trumbull hi this is

26:12he called me oh see now there we go that's how that's how we should launch the frogs all right so i'm

26:20assuming we're gonna oh no that's not assumption wrong okay oh please don't touch oh hey check it

26:29out it says please don't touch do you like it scared me i think it's great oh my gosh giving me

26:40heart palpitations you want to try the honors there okay oh there we go you just have to be taller

26:45apparently no i'm not sure if that's a hologram or what right if you don't stop doing that i can't help

26:53it we have 30 minutes before guests start arriving and i really need to get this hologram of justin's

26:58favorite frog set up i cannot wait to see the look on his face when he sees this now if we could just

27:03get jonathan to stop distracting us you guys it's working it's working

27:15look at the frog gummy little frog how cute are these these are cute

27:18it's the rainforest screen ready yet is it like maybe it's like uh you know you clap you're like

27:27didn't work no oh it worked check it out wow oh it looks wow it looks so good it looks so good

27:44everything is coming together we've got the food station the rainforest the balloons

27:48it's all coming together except the rock wall just cross our fingers maybe we can ask

28:04perfect is it gonna be okay oh yeah we're good thank you of course yes oh my gosh this is such a good

28:30all right we're putting this frog right here for justin okay right there look how cute yes all right

28:39how do i get down oh what hi hi what's going on uh i just put a frog up here for justin

28:45to surprise him look how cute that's a delightful touch the guests are almost here so you're gonna

28:49need to come down i can't get down are you serious i don't know how should i absolutely not should i like

28:54spot you or something just like go one two three oh wow that was awesome i want to do it again no no no

29:05no no no the guests are here oh okay gotta go take this off take this off thank you so much oh

29:13listen i can't thank you enough lacy i'm so proud of you and what you're doing for all these heroes it's

29:18it's absolutely magical not only is this a celebration of justin but it's a recognition

29:24of what he's doing and the validation of hey we see you we want to honor you because you

30:36has no idea that his friends and family are here to surprise him with the celebration of a lifetime

30:58i love when you are able to successfully surprise someone when you see that look on their face it's

31:14such a joyful moment am i in the wrong place i'm like why is everything set up like a rain forest but

31:22then i just started seeing all my different family members and friends i'm in shock right now

31:31i think sometimes life feels like a dream it doesn't really feel like it's happening so i think

31:35right now he's probably really shocked we love justin the impact that justin has on this community

31:43is the reason why he deserves this celebration he's a special kid he deserves the world hi there justin

31:49hi i'm lacy it's so nice to meet you i've heard so much about you nice to meet you too i know you're

31:53probably a little confused like what is happening but we're here today to celebrate you and for all

31:59that you're doing to save and protect the rain forest now this all came to be because of mr trumbull

32:04he nominated you as a hero to be recognized mr trumbull do you want to come up and say something

32:09i nominated you because the amazing things you're doing not only for the rain forest but your goals

32:22influence so many people at our school you've got the environmental club doing big picture things

32:29their horizons were broadened because you were so brave to step up i thought the work that you were doing

32:35really deserve to be recognized and i'm so excited to have this party with you well thank you and

32:42thank you for all of you guys for coming the surprises aren't over yet there's another one walking through

32:52that door over there i can't believe that cali flew all the way to california just for me and it was

33:09just super cool being able to actually talk to someone that i've never seen in real life for and

33:15been connected with them for four years oh my goodness i can't believe this everyone this is

33:22cali she and justin have been working together for the past four years but when i found out that they

33:27hadn't yet met each other in real life i was like can you please make the trip thank you so much for

33:31coming out i wouldn't miss it meeting him in person for the first time it was very emotional for me

33:37amazing this is so cool a third of his life he's been working with me i started this

33:44organization called reserva the youth land trust in 2019 and our goal at the beginning was to create

33:51the world's first entirely youth funded nature reserve and justin started working with us before

33:57we had raised a single dollar and in that time you've protected 78 acres of cloud forest in ecuador

34:04that's so awesome i'm really impressed by you and excited that we get to celebrate you today

34:11welcome to your frog fest celebration

34:25all right there's going to be a great batch of cooking cream coming up right here i'm not going to

34:28lie to you let's see if we can get more yeah justin who doesn't love a rainforest themed surprise party

34:38i mean come on yeah justin look the first thing that caught my eye was probably the rock log as i

34:46walk in i'm like whoa i don't really see that in a party every day

34:52justin deserves to be celebrated because all the work he's put into the environment and he's so humble

35:01i know exactly what this frog is it's a strawberry point dart frog i thought that they were just very

35:14cool that you could see a hologram of this frog moving in real time and i think it was a very creative

35:21way to have frogs at my party and not harm them yeah it is very cool if you could say one thing to

35:30like inspire other people around the world what would you want to say um be brave stay determined
