00:00I'm standing inside an exquisite art gallery in the heart of Los Angeles where one woman
00:16is redefining inclusion through the arts. We have committed to creating a sense of
00:22empowerment for people to help folks with disabilities be fully included in the communities.
00:26She has dedicated herself to ensuring that people of all abilities have the
00:31opportunity to lead fulfilling meaningful lives. Can I give you a hug? Sure.
00:35Kind of like art in the park. Art in the park. I love that. Hi. Artistic, colorful, super park.
00:43Voila. Please join me as we celebrate Rebecca for her incredible impact on the
00:48lives of people with disabilities. Surprise!
00:53My name is Lacey Chabert and I'm on a mission to find unsung heroes who dedicate their lives to serving their communities.
01:02Everyday champions whose impact reaches far beyond the work they do.
01:07It's their turn for the spotlight. What is going on? With the help of family, friends, and our superstar planners.
01:14I am so excited about this celebration. It's gonna be great. We have only three days to create epic
01:19surprise parties to honor our dedicated heroes.
01:32Now let's get ready to celebrate.
01:34Today I'm heading to the Tierra del Sol Art Gallery to meet our nominator Pat and I'm excited to learn
01:49more about our wonderful hero Rebecca. Hi. Hi. How are you? Hi, I'm Lacey. So nice to meet you.
01:55So nice to meet you Pat. How are you? Oh really good. I'm so glad you're here. Thank you so much for
01:59nominating Rebecca. She's amazing. I mean she really is. She is a champion for everyone at Tierra. We have
02:07over 800 associates and Rebecca knows every single one of them. My name is Rebecca Leinhard and I am the
02:13CEO of Tierra del Sol. I'm nominating Rebecca for a surprise celebration because she's one of those people
02:27that changes lives. Tierra del Sol is a non-profit and we serve developmentally disabled adults in three
02:33distinct buckets. So we have workforce development which is some paid jobs and then some volunteer jobs.
02:41Then we have the college to career where we support some of our associates that want to go into higher
02:47education. And then of course we have our arts program. They earn money for their artwork and we
02:54have a gallery that we're super proud of. When you're born with a disability there are common
03:01stereotypes and common stigmas. But when we start seeing people as uniquely themselves then we really
03:09see them for their gifts that they bring to the table. Because of Tierra you know I'm able to like work
03:17and give back to my community. I've made so many friends and not only that I've made like a whole new
03:24family. It means the world to me. Rebecca she's present for all of the people that look up to her to help
03:32them. Rebecca gives 150 percent of her heart and her soul to Tierra. I believe my path was probably laid
03:42out for me before I knew my path was laid out for me. In high school I did my papers on down syndrome.
03:49When I was in college one of my best friends had a sister with significant cerebral palsy and I worked
03:55at the summer camp that she went to and then my father passed and right before that my dad told me
04:02you need to take care of your mom she's special. I didn't really understand what my dad meant by that
04:07because my mom's brilliant and the more time I spent with her it became really clear that my mom had
04:11autism and so I think that the stones were laid long before I knew they were. So that's why I'm here.
04:20You know nobody really expects to have a child with special needs and then when you do you know you
04:25just deal with everything that comes along with that. I'm not just on board my I'm a parent as well so
04:31my son is part of Tierra del Sol and he's in the workforce development program. So he actually
04:36delivers Meals on Wheels which he loves. I don't know where he would be without Tierra. I really don't.
04:44It just gives meaning to his life. I knew I was going to cry. It's okay. I'm sure it's very emotional.
04:51My daughter Teresa graduated from high school and we wanted to start the process of her having
04:58a life of her own. We wanted her to have peers and we wanted her to have programs that she really liked
05:04doing and we wanted her bottom line to be we were looking for a program for her. As soon as I walked
05:13on the campus here I'm like this is it this is the program and then I met Rebecca
05:21and I knew it was going to be okay. Rebecca really um you know when I call her a visionary she really is
05:27because this program was great to begin with. She took it to the next level. Wow what a journey.
05:33How many years has she been there? This is going to be her 35th anniversary. Wow. Yeah. But I love
05:39that we're throwing a celebration. Yeah. Coming up on her 35th year of her devotion to Tierra. Yeah,
05:45definitely. Speaking of the celebration, would you be able to help me at all with
05:49any sort of details you could give me? You know whether it be favorite colors, favorite foods,
05:55we're trying to come up with a theme. Anything you could share is really helpful. She likes to read.
05:59She loves to cook, loves to eat. That's great. She really is fun. She loves to laugh. You could hear
06:04her laughter across the room. Oh that's so nice. I know. And she obviously loves art. Wow this is
06:09great information to bring back to Marissa and Lisa. I feel like art, reading, and joy just go hand in
06:15hand. Add in some yummy food and this is going to be an incredible celebration for our wonderful hero.
06:21I can't wait to see all that they have to offer their incredible associates. Can you
06:24tell me a little bit about the gallery? We had our opening in November of 2023
06:29and all of the artists were here. It really was amazing. I can't believe it. And are all of the
06:34artists associates from Tierra Dossel? They are. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. But today is Evan Hines exhibit and
06:40it'll be great for you to meet him. I would love to meet Evan. Let's go. Okay. Thank you.
06:45Wow. Isn't that amazing? All of this is his work? Yeah. All of this. Hi Evan. Hi. Hello. This is
06:55Lacey. Hi. This is Evan. This is Evan. Hi. I'm Lacey. So nice to meet you, Evan. Nice to meet you too.
06:59Welcome to my artist show called Bubbles Kingdom. My goodness. I'm looking at all of the different pieces
07:07you've created and they're just incredible. I'm honored to be here and congratulations on your
07:11upcoming opening. Thank you. You're so welcome. Hi, I'm Lacey. I'm Patty, Evan's mom. So nice to
07:18meet you. Nice to meet you, Patty. Thank you so much for chatting for a minute. Oh, our pleasure.
07:22I'm going to go make some phone calls. Okay. Okay. Thank you so much. And are all of the pieces for sale?
07:29Yes. And some of them have been already sold. Can you speak a little bit about what Tierra has
07:35meant to you and your family? Evan was fascinated by the work there and what he could do with art.
07:42And he just took off. Wow. It's really helped him find his voice. And Rebecca is such a huge part of
07:49that. And what's your relationship like with her? Well, through my art, I relate to her in that sense.
07:59She comes to all the openings. She's very present, very present at the different galleries, very
08:06supportive. It sounds like Rebecca has had a profound impact on Evan's life by helping him find
08:15ways to showcase his true talents. And I'm sure so many other associates have had similar experiences,
08:20thanks to Rebecca. What does it mean to you to have a solo show here at the gallery?
08:25Just having an art show means a lot to me. Yeah. Because I really get the full effect of
08:35what it takes to become an expert artist. I can tell you are an expert artist. Thank you.
08:43I really love the story of Robin Hood. This is a Halloween magic picture.
08:58It's so neat to create something and put it out in the world and then know that people are
09:03getting joy from that. That's how I feel about my work when I make a movie.
09:06We do enjoy your movies. Oh, thank you. Thank you so much. That means a lot.
09:11It's wonderful that you're doing this today too, this type of work.
09:15Oh, this is, this fills my heart. And getting to meet incredible people like yourself is just a
09:20very special experience for me. And now together we get to honor Rebecca.
09:24Yes. Yay.
09:25And spread the word about Tierra del Sol and what it means.
09:27Absolutely.
09:27Yeah.
09:28So will you come to the celebration in two days?
09:30Sure.
09:31Really?
09:32Yeah.
09:33I'm so excited. That'll be great.
09:35I am so inspired after seeing Evan's show today. I have so many fun and creative ideas spinning
09:40around in my head and I can't wait to get back to HQ to brainstorm everything with Lisa and Marissa.
09:49Hello.
09:50Hello, good morning.
09:52Hi.
09:52How are you?
09:53Good morning.
09:54I'm doing great. How are you?
09:55Good.
09:55You in particular are going to love what I did this morning.
09:58Oh, I'm so excited.
09:59I got to go to an art gallery.
10:00You did?
10:01Yes.
10:01Fun.
10:02So our hero, her name is Rebecca and she runs the nonprofit Tierra del Sol.
10:07Oh.
10:07And Tierra gives intellectually disabled individuals the opportunity to shepherd
10:12their careers and to present opportunities for employment.
10:15Very awesome.
10:16One of the associates from Tierra has a show that's opening there tonight.
10:20So I got to meet with Evan and these are some of the pieces.
10:24Oh, wow.
10:24Yeah, please take a look.
10:26These are amazing.
10:27And so because of Tierra, he has the chance to showcase his work there.
10:31His mom was there as well and she told me just what Tierra had meant to their family.
10:36Rebecca is just an incredible hero.
10:38I mean, for her service to adults with lifelong disabilities, I mean, she's such an advocate
10:43and has been with Tierra del Sol now for nearly 35 years and is now CEO of the program.
10:49Wow.
10:50So really she's dedicated a big chunk of her life to this.
10:53Yes.
10:53And I got to meet Pat who was our nominator this morning and she was just wonderful.
10:57So we were brainstorming just a bit about, you know, what would be the ultimate party for Rebecca.
11:01And so far, obviously, I know she loves art.
11:03Okay.
11:03Like has a true passion for art.
11:05I know that she loves bright colors.
11:06Mm, good, okay, colorful.
11:07So I'm thinking something like big and fun.
11:10Okay.
11:11I also know that Rebecca has a love of reading.
11:12Ooh.
11:13So I don't know if that's something we can incorporate into the party.
11:15Okay.
11:16But how do we make it like really bright and colorful?
11:18I feel like everything I've heard about her personality is that she's like,
11:21has this like zest for life and she has this amazing laugh.
11:24Can't wait to meet her.
11:24I know, me too.
11:25What about like a carnival or like a fair maybe?
11:28Ooh, an art fair, an art fair, yes.
11:31That would be great.
11:32I love that.
11:32Yeah.
11:33Okay, so what would be a good venue?
11:35We've not had good luck with our weather lately.
11:37It's been raining so much.
11:38Okay.
11:38But I like this, kind of like art in the park.
11:41Art in the park.
11:42Yeah.
11:43Yeah, it's cute.
11:43I love that, art in the park.
11:45Okay.
11:45It's like everything in one.
11:46Right.
11:47But inside.
11:48But we should incorporate something with her passion for reading too.
11:51I could incorporate that into my hero moment.
11:54Okay.
11:54That's a good place.
11:54I could think about that and brainstorm about that.
11:56Yes.
11:57Okay.
11:57Do you think so?
11:58Yeah.
11:59So if we're doing art in the park, what food are we serving?
12:02Well, you know.
12:03We need food with lots of color.
12:04I always want to start with dessert, so.
12:06Okay.
12:06Me too.
12:07What sweets can we have?
12:08Well, I feel like at a park you think of like popsicles or ice cream, right?
12:14Like a frozen yogurt.
12:15I'm imagining like burgers and you know, like park food.
12:19Yep.
12:19Maybe like a fair vibes in some way or another.
12:22And maybe like, like candied apples maybe.
12:24Yes, candied apple, yeah.
12:26Maybe even the dessert could be a pop of color.
12:28Definitely.
12:28Yes, easy.
12:29That would be great.
12:30Yeah.
12:30Well, I am actually going to go check out T.R.
12:32D'O Sol's Sunland campus and I'm going to go get to see where all the artists learn their craft.
12:37All right.
12:37We're going to start thinking of some food vendors and some venues and make some calls.
12:41Okay.
12:42Okay.
12:43I love it.
12:43See you soon.
12:43We'll be here.
12:44Working away.
12:45All right.
12:45We've decided on a theme, food, and I've got some ideas for my hero moment.
12:48So it's all coming together, but the clock is ticking.
12:55Getting to come here every day, like creating things, it's very rewarding.
12:59I have some paintings here.
13:00Oh my goodness.
13:03Art in the park.
13:03Love it.
13:04She's going to love it.
13:05I'm so glad.
13:05Yeah.
13:06I'm so excited.
13:07I'm starting to get stressed because our furniture rentals are not here yet.
13:10I was just checking to see what your ETA is for today's install.
13:21I'm heading to check out another one of Tierra's locations, their Sunland campus,
13:25where they host art programs and classes for their associates.
13:29I'm excited to meet some of their artists and learn more about what Tierra and Rebecca mean to them.
13:34And maybe I'll come up with some great ideas for our celebration.
13:38That blanket is absolutely beautiful.
13:41Hi.
13:42I'm Lacey.
13:43Oh, Lacey.
13:43Nice to meet you.
13:44I was so inspired being at the gallery this morning.
13:47Oh, that's right.
13:48Wonderful.
13:48The artwork, I wanted to see where the magic happens.
13:51Yeah, isn't that a great space?
13:52Yeah, this is, um, you're in one of our studios, which is, uh, drawing and fiber arts.
13:59Wow.
14:00Yeah.
14:00Hi, I'm Lacey.
14:01So nice to meet you.
14:03Nice to meet you too.
14:04What are you making here?
14:04This is so beautiful.
14:05This is to be determined, but it does have a very intricate diamond pattern
14:09with a little bit of a gold trim to it to give it that pizzazz.
14:14It has total pizzazz.
14:15Purple is my favorite color.
14:17Oh, mine too.
14:17Is it really?
14:18It is.
14:19I love it.
14:19We have that in common.
14:20This is beautiful.
14:22Do you mind if I ask how long you've been with Tierra?
14:25Almost a decade now.
14:26Art has always been a part of my soul since, since as long as I can remember.
14:31And getting to come here every day and be amongst my peers, like creating things with
14:37my hands is just, it's very rewarding.
14:39I bet.
14:40Rebecca is an amazing woman.
14:43If it weren't for her and how she runs this program, I probably wouldn't be here today,
14:49making my dreams come true.
14:51There have been many difficulties growing up autistic.
14:54I always try to fit in with my peers, and I know that I stuck out like a sore thumb.
15:00Here at Tierra, we embrace those differences.
15:04I love Tierra and also Rebecca because they see strength in me.
15:08They see my potential and not just me.
15:11They see the good in everybody and play to their strengths.
15:14And I feel they make us feel seen, heard, and validated.
15:19I feel like this is a very magical place.
15:21It is.
15:23The art created by these associates is truly stunning.
15:27And I'm so impressed and moved by all that Tierra has to offer.
15:31And I really think our art in the park theme is going to be spot on for Rebecca.
15:41Good morning.
15:43Good morning.
15:44What's this beautiful work?
15:46Okay.
15:46Well, we decided that we need to bring a lot of color to our party, right?
15:51Yes.
15:51Marissa and I did secure a venue called Frankie that's downtown.
15:55And it's basically just a blank canvas, right?
15:57We could do anything we want with it.
15:59And so we really want to do floor to ceiling colors, right?
16:02So we thought these chandeliers will just bring the color down and just be beautiful.
16:07I love where you're going with this.
16:09How are we really going to bring the outside in?
16:11Well, there's a lot of ways that we can do that.
16:13We can run trees.
16:14Real live trees?
16:15Yes.
16:15Absolutely.
16:15Really?
16:16We do that a lot.
16:16Yep.
16:17We can bring in vines and wrap them around.
16:20We can bring in green turf to make it look like grass.
16:23Yeah, it will definitely get the point across.
16:25Okay.
16:26It sounds awesome.
16:27Yes.
16:27And then we also don't have to worry about the weather.
16:29True.
16:30Which is always a plus.
16:30Or mud.
16:31Yes.
16:31While Marissa and I were brainstorming some ideas for decor for our art in the park party,
16:35we came up with a floor plan.
16:36Do you want to see it?
16:37I would love to see it.
16:38Of course.
16:40So here is where the guests would enter.
16:42We thought we would do a really fun, bright dessert table right here in the center with
16:47our candy apples and yummy baked goods.
16:49We'll definitely bring in the frozen yogurt cart.
16:51We talked to Gourmeladas and they are available.
16:53They can do it?
16:54So that will work.
16:55Yes.
16:55We'll do a lemonade station because it's going to be a hot summer day, right?
16:59At our park.
17:00Yes.
17:00And then we'll do some food station here.
17:03And what we thought would be fun was to bring in lots of different colors of fabric.
17:08And we thought textiles just because Tierra del Sol does so much with that, right?
17:12Do you want me to look for some fabrics?
17:13Oh, yeah.
17:14If you have time, yeah.
17:15Please.
17:16Okay.
17:16I'll try for sure.
17:17Take that off our plate.
17:18We would appreciate that.
17:19Yes.
17:19I would love to.
17:21I'm feeling pretty good about this.
17:22So while the ladies are off to lock down our location and decor,
17:26I am going to go see if I can find some textiles.
17:29I think I have an idea.
17:35I'm stopping by Tierra's Treasures, which is a thrift store owned by Tierra del Sol
17:40and run fully by their associates.
17:42It's a way for them to get real-world career experience, and I'm excited to check it out.
17:47Rebecca's daughter, Jessica, has agreed to show me around the store,
17:50and I'm looking forward to seeing if there's anything we can use for the decor of the celebration.
17:54Hello.
17:55Hello.
17:56Welcome to Tierra's Treasures.
17:57I'm Lacey.
17:58Hi, Lacey.
17:59I'm Joanna.
18:00Hi, Joanna.
18:00Nice to meet you.
18:01And I'm Chase.
18:02Hi, Chase.
18:02So nice to meet you.
18:04Thanks for having me here today.
18:05I'm excited to look around.
18:06I'm actually meeting Jessica here.
18:08Oh, Jessica?
18:09Oh, I believe she's on her way right now.
18:10Okay, perfect.
18:11Yeah.
18:11What a great store.
18:12I love it.
18:13This is my internship.
18:16Great.
18:16Are you enjoying it?
18:17Oh, yes.
18:18I became part of Tierra del Sol in college.
18:21I've been there since 2020.
18:24I have some paintings here.
18:26Oh, is this your artwork?
18:27This is it.
18:29Oh, my goodness.
18:31This is beautiful.
18:32These were all done in watercolor.
18:35They're so pretty.
18:36Absolutely.
18:37You're extremely talented.
18:41So Tierra's Treasures is a thrift store run by people with disabilities for people with disabilities.
18:47It's great.
18:48It was actually a thrift store that our folks actually volunteered at.
18:53And they were closing.
18:55And our volunteers were heartbroken.
18:58It was kind of home to them.
19:01But we had an idea.
19:03What if we took over the thrift store?
19:05All of those volunteers were able to save their jobs.
19:12We were able to also to offer now new jobs.
19:16So we saved jobs, offered new jobs.
19:18And any of the proceeds that come back from the thrift store come right back into the organization.
19:23Lacey?
19:32Jessica.
19:33Hi.
19:33Hi.
19:35It's so nice to meet you, too.
19:37How are you?
19:38I'm doing great.
19:39How are you?
19:39I'm good.
19:40I'm good.
19:42Thank you for coming by to chat about your mom.
19:44We're so excited that we are doing this celebration for her.
19:48Yeah.
19:48And trying to look for a little bit of more inspiration for maybe some materials or things
19:54that we could use that will add a lot of color to our art in the park.
19:57Art in the park?
19:58That is our theme that we settled on.
20:00Art in the park.
20:00Love it.
20:01She's going to love it.
20:02I'm so glad.
20:02Yeah.
20:03I'm so excited.
20:04Obviously, your mom is just an incredible human being.
20:06She really is.
20:07And it seems like she really inspires you.
20:09Yes.
20:09Do you think your mom gets celebrated often?
20:11Or does she ever stop and think about what she's done and what she means to people?
20:15I mean, we tell her, but I don't think she always hears it.
20:19Right?
20:19You look at her and you're like, you are the most amazing woman I've ever met.
20:23Right?
20:23She is an inspiration to so many.
20:26She gives light to so many lives.
20:28Like, she is phenomenal.
20:31Oh, I hope to tell her that tomorrow.
20:34Absolutely.
20:34I do something at every celebration called a hero moment,
20:37where I just want to honor our heroes with a special gift,
20:39something that's a bit more personal just for them.
20:41And I've been really trying to figure out what that is for your mom.
20:45Is it true that she's an avid reader?
20:47Yes.
20:48Does she really have a love for reading?
20:49A hundred percent.
20:50I have dyslexia and ADHD.
20:53Oh, wow.
20:54And so, as a kid, that was really challenging for me.
20:58And I always felt like those were not going to be things that I was ever going to be good at.
21:04And my mom would sit with me and read with me, and we would break it down.
21:08It took a lot of really hard work, but then I became an avid reader, too.
21:13And now my mom and I have a book club together.
21:16You do?
21:17Yeah.
21:18I love that reading is so special to Rebecca and Jessica.
21:22It's giving me an idea.
21:23I've been seeing all these community libraries around the neighborhood,
21:26and I love that neighbors can come together and share some of their favorite stories and books.
21:31I feel like Tierra del Sol needs their own set of these little libraries to invite people
21:35into their community and share their stories with the world.
21:39This is it.
21:39I think this is the hero moment I've been searching for.
21:42Do you want to help me look around a little bit?
21:43Yes, of course I do.
21:44Okay, perfect.
21:45We need like pillows, blankets, anything, maybe some fabrics,
21:48anything that's colorful, you know, pretty pops of color.
21:51Love it.
21:52Let's do it.
21:55The store has amazing things.
21:56It really does have treasures.
21:57It really does have treasures.
21:59Ooh.
22:00This is pretty.
22:01These would be perfect.
22:02Ooh.
22:03I don't know if they're curtains or rugs, but whatever it is,
22:08I feel like this is great.
22:09But these are beautiful pops of color.
22:11They are.
22:12These could be green.
22:13The gold is really nice.
22:16And this could possibly be used on some of our seating.
22:18Yeah.
22:19I love it.
22:20I'm so happy to find these amazing fabrics.
22:22They're so fun.
22:23They're so bright.
22:24They're going to be the perfect addition to our art in the park.
22:27I can't wait to show Lisa and Marissa.
22:29This wall needs something.
22:32Needs color.
22:33It definitely does.
22:34It's looking drab.
22:35This place is amazing.
22:37You guys did such a good job.
22:39Do you think she's going to love it?
22:40She's going to love it.
22:41Okay, shh.
22:42She's coming.
22:43She's coming.
22:43No party is complete without a yummy dessert.
22:52So I am heading to Diva Rivas to check out their dessert menu
22:55and meet with the director of operations of Tierra del Sol, Pamela.
22:59Hi, Liz.
22:59It's Lacey.
23:00Hi, Lacey.
23:01Hi.
23:02Nice to meet you.
23:03Hi, Liz.
23:03Pam.
23:04Hi, Pam.
23:04Nice to meet you.
23:05Pleasure to meet both of you.
23:06I really appreciate you showing up at such short notice.
23:09I know Lisa and Marissa called you just this morning.
23:11They did call me this morning, and I was like, okay, we're on it.
23:14Let's go.
23:14Got it.
23:15Let's go, yeah.
23:16Pam is from Tierra del Sol.
23:17She knows Rebecca, our hero, very well.
23:19And how long have you been at Tierra?
23:2127 years.
23:2227.
23:23That's incredible.
23:24Rebecca and I became fast friends.
23:27We each had three children, and they were very similar in age,
23:30and we just started doing everything together.
23:32We would take our kids to the zoo, to the beach all the time,
23:36lots of camping trips.
23:37So we had a really good time.
23:39Nice.
23:39It sounds like you formed a real friendship.
23:41Outside of Tierra del Sol.
23:42Yes, yes.
23:42She's a very amazing person.
23:45That's wonderful.
23:45We're so excited we get to celebrate her tomorrow.
23:48So am I.
23:48Looking forward to it.
23:50Very meaningful for you and so many others to be there.
23:52Yes, for sure.
23:53Okay.
23:54Should we get to the decorating part?
23:56All right.
23:57I brought some goodies for us to dip and some sprinkles since the theme is art.
24:02We wanted to incorporate some good fun colors.
24:04Oh, I love that.
24:05Yeah.
24:05So I'm going to hand you an apple and I'm going to hand you another one.
24:09Here is the skewer, and you're just going to insert it in the middle,
24:13and we can dip it in the caramel first.
24:15We can dip it in milk chocolate, white chocolate, and you can go ahead and dip in there.
24:22Okay.
24:23For the strawberries.
24:24And then you can add some sprinkles since it's still wet.
24:31Oh, it's a pink one.
24:32Pink one.
24:34Pretty.
24:35Oh, I love the way that turned out.
24:36Yeah.
24:37I was going to ask, do you have a fond memory of working here with Rebecca?
24:41When Rebecca first came and started helping all of us, I always say that she took a snow
24:46globe and she shook it up, but it was all for the good. Like, she was very forward thinking,
24:51and she still will shake it up, you know? She'll be like, we're going to open a thrift store.
24:57Can you think we can do it? Yeah, let's do it.
25:01My proudest achievement is moving the organization into full inclusion.
25:07This was a vibrant, thriving campus. It was amazing, but it was separate still.
25:14We challenged ourselves about that. And this entire organization changed. It's full of innovation
25:26and creativity and full of, there is another way. If we run into a barrier, it no longer stops us.
25:34It sounds like she really is a trailblazer.
25:35Absolutely.
25:36Is that a good word to describe her?
25:37Yes, a trailblazer for sure.
25:38It's incredible to hear how Rebecca continues to build and transform this organization for the
25:43better. I can't wait to meet her, and I can't wait to surprise her with these delicious treats.
25:49This is perfect. This is really going to just add the most perfect treat to the party. Thank you so
25:53much for jumping in so quickly. Thank you for the lesson, and thank you for the treat.
25:57Yes, thank you.
25:58I'm taking this with me.
25:59Okay, I'm going to take my hand.
26:16The green turf looks so good already.
26:18Yeah, yeah.
26:19We have a lot to do.
26:20Me too.
26:21I love the colors, Marissa. They're going to look so pretty in here.
26:24This garland will be really pretty as the backdrop. Awesome.
26:27This wall needs something.
26:28Needs color.
26:29It definitely does.
26:30It's looking drab.
26:31This space is massive. It's going to take a lot of work to get this all set up.
26:35Hopefully our vision can come to life in the next few hours.
26:38This looks so good.
26:39Amazing.
26:40Good morning.
26:41Good morning.
26:42Happy celebration day.
26:44Yes, I found this one on my way in. These are so festive.
26:47Right?
26:48And look at this. It's starting to look like a park.
26:50Doesn't it?
26:50And the tapestries you picked out are amazing.
26:53Oh, they look really good.
26:54Don't they?
26:55Yeah, nice job.
26:56Okay, so do you want us to tell you like what's happening?
26:58Please.
26:59So we brought in the olive trees and we'll put the barbecue food buffet here
27:04and Diva Rivas with their candied apples.
27:06That'll all go right here.
27:08So fun.
27:08Okay, in the middle here,
27:10we'll hang our chandeliers and do some farmhouse tables with chairs.
27:14And some cocktail tables like scattered around the middle here.
27:17Okay.
27:18As you can tell, it's really noisy in here because we're building some gazebos just to add
27:21some rustic park vibes to this party. And then Marissa found these amazing structures that
27:26we're going to scatter around the party.
27:27Okay. I'm excited. This looks awesome. This is totally different than anything we've done before.
27:32Yeah. Vibrant in a really great way.
27:35We have about three hours left, so...
27:37I should go check to see when A Rental Connection is coming.
27:40I am going to go lay out the other picnic blankets.
27:42Do you want me to grab the sculptures?
27:43Yes, and I'm going to go call A Rental Connection.
27:45Okay.
27:45Yes.
27:46Because we really do need to get these benches in.
27:48Okay.
27:48Let me see.
27:49I'm starting to get stressed because our furniture rentals are not here yet.
27:52If they don't come soon, I don't know where our guests are going to sit and eat.
27:55Is this the sculpture?
27:57Hi, Nicole. It's Lisa Friedman from LA Party Stylist.
28:00Hey, Lisa.
28:01I was just checking to see what your ETA is for today's install.
28:05I'm going to put my knees into it.
28:07We are at Frankie's and just wanted to know what time you guys will be here.
28:11I don't think I can grab this.
28:12They should be there in 20 minutes.
28:14Oh, okay. Perfect.
28:15All right. Thank you.
28:17Bye.
28:17The party starts in two hours.
28:19I just hope that the LA traffic doesn't throw a wrench in their ETA.
28:22We just have to relax and hope for the best.
28:24True.
28:26So what are we doing?
28:27Just make up a loop.
28:28Okay.
28:29And then pull the ends through and ta-da.
28:32Oh, you guys are here. I'm so excited. Come this way.
28:40Hi.
28:42Where are we putting this one?
28:44Right back there.
28:50Does anyone know how to set up a chess board?
28:53Anybody?
28:55Surely there's someone here who knows how to play chess.
28:57Well, Lisa and I refuse to read instructions ever.
29:00Oh, okay.
29:03Max, do you guys know how to set up chess?
29:05I'm so embarrassed to say I don't know how.
29:07Oh, I'll show you.
29:08Okay, great. We did it.
29:10I can't remember which one's which. I think it's like this.
29:13I got to make four.
29:17We did it.
29:17Hi.
29:19Hey, come in.
29:21This place is amazing.
29:23You guys did a good job.
29:26What do you think?
29:27Wow.
29:27It's fabulous.
29:28Do you think she's gonna love it?
29:29She's gonna love it.
29:30I'm so glad.
29:31Yeah.
29:31Thank you so much for being here.
29:32Do you want to help us out?
29:33Yeah.
29:33I feel like Lisa and Marissa could use our help.
29:35Okay.
29:36Ladies, look who's here.
29:37Hi.
29:38Hi.
29:38How are you?
29:39Do you want to help us?
29:40Yes.
29:41Why don't we start placing these centerpieces at the tables?
29:43I'm getting a little worried on time.
29:45All right.
29:45Let's do it.
29:47Hey, look.
29:48Divas Rebus is here.
29:49All right.
29:59That looks great.
30:00I'm gonna run change.
30:01All right.
30:01That's two.
30:02Okay.
30:02Okay.
30:02All right.
30:03Let's go.
30:19I think everything looks great.
30:26It's so pretty.
30:27I love it.
30:27I love how it came out.
30:29Me too.
30:29Guys, I want to check on my hero moment.
30:31I have one question if you could help me.
30:32Sure.
30:32Do you mind?
30:33Sure.
30:37So here are the community libraries.
30:38Aren't they cute?
30:39Love.
30:40Perfect.
30:40So I was thinking that the guests could come in and sign them, decorate them.
30:43We have markers and paint.
30:45Can you help me direct the guests back here?
30:47Definitely.
30:48That way we can keep it a secret.
30:49Yeah.
30:50Okay.
30:51Cool.
30:51I might want to paint a little myself too.
30:53Please.
30:53I was hoping you would say that.
30:55It truly feels like we have brought the park inside.
30:58Now we just need to see the guests arrive so we can get this party started.
31:01Hey, Mariah.
31:02So good to see you.
31:03Hi, I'm Lacey.
31:04Mikayla.
31:05Nice to meet you.
31:05Nice to meet you.
31:06Oh, I love what everyone's wearing.
31:08You match the party perfectly.
31:09Hi.
31:10I feel like I know you.
31:11My husband and I watch you all the time.
31:13You do.
31:14You bring us so much joy.
31:15Come on in.
31:17So nice to meet you.
31:18Hi.
31:19Wow.
31:20Come in.
31:20Hi, I'm Enrique.
31:22Very nice to meet you.
31:23Enrique, very nice to meet you.
31:24Hey, come on in.
31:25Hi, you're Lacey.
31:27Yes, it's so good to see you again.
31:29How are you?
31:29Awesome.
31:30Hi.
31:31Hi.
31:32So nice to see you.
31:33So nice to see you.
31:34How are you?
31:35I'm Lacey.
31:35I'm Sharon and I'm Rebecca's mother.
31:38I'm so happy to be celebrating your daughter today.
31:41It looks so amazing.
31:43Okay, everyone.
31:44If you'll gather around, Rebecca's about to be here.
31:47If you'd all come in close, please.
31:49Don't be shy.
31:50Come up close.
31:51Come on up.
31:52Come on in.
31:53Fill in, everybody.
31:54Okay, shh.
31:55She's coming.
31:56She's coming.
31:56Rebecca thinks she's here for an interview about Tierra del Sol,
32:00but she's in for a big surprise.
32:03I am very, very, very, very, very proud
32:05that we can do a tiny bit of our part and give you this gift.
32:10So if you'll give me one second, please.
32:25Surprise!
32:32That's something right there.
32:42Hi, Rebecca.
32:43Hi.
32:46Wow, okay.
32:49That's a little overwhelming.
32:52My name is Lacey and we are here today.
32:57We're here today to celebrate you.
32:59We've all gathered just to let you know how much the work you do.
33:02means to so many and the impact you've made is just immense.
33:09And this all came to be because Pat nominated you.
33:11Oh, very well-deserving.
33:13I just really want to hug all of you.
33:16I'll take one.
33:17I have a couple of things I want to say.
33:27Yeah, go for it, Pat.
33:28It's a privilege to nominate Rebecca for this recognition as the CEO of Tierra del Sol.
33:34She leads with her whole heart, with dedication and unwavering commitment to people with intellectual disabilities.
33:40But what truly sets Rebecca apart is her kindness, her vision, and her ability to bring people together to make a real difference.
33:52And we love you.
33:59So, it's your celebration.
34:01Enjoy.
34:01So, come on in.
34:03It is so nice to see Rebecca celebrated because the first thing she does is celebrate everybody else.
34:15Can I give you a hug?
34:16Sure.
34:16I really hope that Rebecca will feel how much she's appreciated and how much we all love her and just think the world of her.
34:31Rebecca is very supportive.
34:34She is not just a friend.
34:36She's like my showmate.
34:37I know you're so humble and so well-deserved.
34:40Just soak this up.
34:42What does it mean for you to see the impact that she has?
34:46It renders me speechless.
34:48It really does.
34:49It's so fulfilling to see her, spreading her joy in the way she does.
34:53This party is amazing.
34:55To be able to celebrate my mom, she's amazing.
34:58And she supports every single person around her and gives so much of herself for so many other people.
35:03So, I'm really excited to be able to do this for her today.
35:06Rebecca, hi.
35:07Hi.
35:09Aww.
35:10I wanted to introduce you to our incredible planners who pulled all of this together.
35:14Hi.
35:14I was, it's nice meeting you and thank you for doing all this.
35:17Today's your day, Rebecca.
35:18Okay.
35:19I'm feeling very celebrated right now.
35:22I don't think I could have asked for a better party.
35:25It's phenomenal.
35:26You're so welcome.
35:27You're so deserving.
35:30This is a special project we're making in honoring Rebecca.
35:34They're like little libraries.
35:36And so, if you guys can just like decorate.
35:48It seems like Rebecca is just soaking it all in and truly enjoying her celebration.
35:52But we have a few more surprises for her.
35:54Oh, that looks great.
35:58I love what you're doing.
35:59The sun is up.
36:01Hooray!
36:06If everyone wants to gather around, come on over Rebecca.
36:10So, your daughter Jessica told me about your love of reading.
36:13She told me that you even have a book club.
36:15We do.
36:16And so, to share that love of reading, we want to gift you with these three community libraries.
36:23Oh, I love them!
36:25Yay!
36:30Oh, yay!
36:34And we wanted to make sure there were three.
36:38That way you can have one at the gallery, one at Tierra's Treasures, and one on campus.
36:42Oh, yay.
36:44You're so welcome.
36:45I have always wanted a community library.
36:49I'm so excited about it because I just think it's a way of bringing the community in.
36:54It can sit right out front and welcome the guests.
36:58I love that.
36:59And again, it's just near and dear to my heart.
37:01It really is an honor to be here today and have the chance to celebrate you.
37:06Getting to see the work that you do firsthand, getting to be on campus,
37:10and getting to see Shana weaving those beautiful tapestries,
37:13and having the chance to see Evan's incredible work at Tierra's art gallery.
37:19I am very, very, very, very, very proud that we can do a tiny bit of our part and give you this gift.
37:26So if you'll give me one second, please.
37:27So on behalf of Hallmark, I'm very excited to present Tierra del Sol with this $10,000 donation.
37:44That's a substantial donation.
37:52It's difficult in these days to raise through donations, and so that $10,000 is to make a significant impact.
37:59Thank you so much.
38:03This kind of generosity can go so far.
38:08The lives that it's going to impact and the people that it helps on a daily basis is incredible.
38:16I know, and I can tell from today, you're a little shy about being celebrated, and I understand.
38:22But I hope you can take all of this to heart and realize you're surrounded by so much love,
38:26because what you do is just so appreciated, and you're changing the lives of so many people.
38:31I have to tell you that it's really the people in this room.
38:34It takes a village.
38:35It takes commitment.
38:36It takes determination, belief, hope.
38:42So it's not me.
38:44It's you.
38:45And every day I get to come and hang out with you.
38:49So thank you for letting me hang out at the best place with the best people every day.
38:58All right.
38:58So feel free to enjoy the food, the desserts, the games, and enjoy your art in the park.
39:03There you go.
39:06There you go.
39:07Thank you for all of your service.
39:09Thank you, Jessica.
39:09Also, okay, so my mom and I watch Hallmark movies every, like, from like June all the way.
39:19And I'm like, Jessica, why do I know her face so well?
39:24And I was like, she's in all the Hallmark movies.
39:26And she goes, I knew it.
39:29I knew it.
39:30Oh my gosh, that is so sweet.
39:33Thank you so much.
39:33I love making the movie.
39:35There's so much fun to make.
39:36It was a surprise, a treat, a joy.
39:41It was amazing.
39:43And so thank you for putting this all together and making this amazing thing happen.
39:49I'm going to give you one more hug.
39:50Okay, one more.
39:52And I hope we can keep in touch.
39:56Thanks for all of your help.
39:57Of course.
39:57Okay.
39:58Enjoy.
39:59Thank you so much.
40:00Hey, Rebecca.
40:14It's good to see you again.
40:15Oh, it's wonderful seeing you too, Lacey.
40:18How have you been?
40:19Busy, but well.
40:20Tell me a little bit about what it felt like when you walked into the celebration.
40:24You seem quite shocked.
40:27It was a little overwhelming, but once it settled in, it felt wonderful and very loved.
40:32I'm so glad.
40:32Well, that is the point.
40:34Well, what has the donation meant for Tiara Del Sol?
40:37Over the next 10 years, we have a big goal.
40:40We want to make sure that here at Tiara, 75% of the folks that we serve have jobs
40:45and have a way of bringing an income into their families, have a way of paying their bills,
40:50and really launching themselves out of poverty and into identity.
40:55With an amazing advocate like yourself behind all of your associates,
40:59I have no doubt that they will accomplish amazing things.
41:01It is amazing, right?
41:04I think sometimes people think about people with disabilities kind of as a whole,
41:08but when you really start to see people as individual people, that's how we break those
41:14barriers down as one unique human being at a time because they become real individuals with real
41:20gifts.
41:21And then that's where the tapestry becomes this beautiful tapestry.
41:25So I'm so glad you had an opportunity to see that.
41:28Makes me really happy.
41:31It's not the last 50 years.
41:34So Dave is a beautiful place to see when you get the applications and pick up the
41:47effort of this is 37.
41:48Now I've been in this up on his side.
41:49But now it's very handsome, right?
41:52Aren't you responsible for having a money invest?
41:54It's 700.
41:55So Dave先生, we can get lost on your toes.
41:56It is just a fourth time.
41:58That is shrimp.
