00:00I'm standing outside the home of a compassionate animal advocate whose roommate has nominated her

00:15as a hero in the unhoused community. I'm so happy we're gonna get that done for you. What this

00:19devoted volunteer doesn't know is she's been selected for a surprise celebration for providing

00:24free vet care to pets on Skid Row. We can call it a potty. Perfect. Done. And a special guest and my

00:32dear friend Kaylee Cuoco will be stopping by. I cannot wait to celebrate this amazing human being

00:38with a celebration fit for a true legend. Surprise! So join me in celebrating our hero live. My name

00:48is Lacey Chabert and this is my mission. I find unsung heroes doing amazing work in their

00:54communities and neighborhoods. It's time for them to shine. We're working with family, friends and top

01:06party planners Marissa Lehner and Lisa Friedman. Job well done. Yay! Well done ladies. We only have

01:13three days to create epic parties for our heroes. Surprise! Now let's get ready to celebrate.

01:28Hi. Hi. Good morning. Hello. Who's ready to plan a party? Oh we are. We're very excited. Love it. So

01:47what's new? What's going on this week? Um my parents come in town. I haven't seen them in a while. Oh how

01:52fun. Yeah I'm excited to see them. She gets to have these awesome family sleepovers when everyone comes

01:58to visit. But I love that. That's when we make the best memories in my family. You know we all stay

02:01at my parents house. We wear matching pajamas on Christmas. Maybe we'll plan a family sleepover.

02:07You should. You definitely should do that. And I like the matching pajamas too. That's a great picture.

02:12It is. Photos will be taken family. Yes. Done. In. I love it. All right well speaking of photos being

02:17taken I think this event is something we're all going to want to photograph. We are honoring this

02:21incredible woman who is doing so much to help animals. This nomination comes from our hero's

02:27roommate. Lina. She's her best friend. She's her roommate. She obviously adores her. But

02:32I'll show you the video. And uh I think you're going to be really inspired. All right. Excited.

02:43Project and we provide access to veterinary care for the pets of the unhoused living in Skid Row.

02:49I am nominating my best friend and roommate Liv. Because she always is giving back to others and

03:02she truly is dedicated to the Underdog Community Project so much more than anything else in her life

03:08really. It is her passion project.

03:13It started as a really small team of just a couple of vets. We had our first clinic in April of 2021

03:19and now we have a clinic on Skid Row every month.

03:23It's the events of like work two weeks and really soon. I could take my job there to get them needed.

03:34Yeah. To someone who doesn't have the basic stability of like housing or you know medical care or a job or a

03:43stable place to stay their animals the only thing they have. Look at girls look at look at what you guys get.

03:49The very first clinic I did with her I remember thinking like oh my gosh who who is this girl like she's incredible.

03:56So many times I have seen her write down her phone number call me when you have a question.

04:02On top of doing all that had these amazing relationships with these individual people.

04:08She would not call herself a hero but I definitely would.

04:14As Liv's roommate I definitely get to hang out with her off the clock. We get to have a lot of

04:18fun together. We love drawing watercolors so a lot of those relaxing activities and I just get to

04:26witness her beauty and grace in all facets of life. Wow I mean she does some serious work. And she's

04:34gathered together this whole entire force behind her with veterinarians all these helpers. And she's

04:39done this on her own. I know yeah this is amazing. Okay so how do we celebrate her? I think they were she said

04:44they were into painting and drawing so something bright happy. It's like an art walk. Or maybe

04:50there's an artist who can draw like portraits. Caricature artists. Of the people. For the dogs. With

04:54their animals. This is happening. As a keepsake. I went to art school. I don't know if you know this. Did you really? I was a painting

05:00major. Yeah. And so anytime we could get paint involved I'd like sew it. I could offer up my um artistry as

05:06well. This is the one and only thing I know how to draw. It's a puppy. That's what I draw for my

05:10daughter. That is really good. That is really cute. So we're gonna let you handle the art. I think we've

05:17landed on that for sure. Okay I'm on it. Okay so back to the party. Um I feel like we should talk to

05:24Lena. I feel like Lena is gonna let us give us a little insight into Liv and what the ultimate

05:29celebration would be for her. I love it. All right let's hope Liv isn't home. Yes. Make sure we have

05:37our cover stories. I'm gonna say that I'm a traveling encyclopedia saleswoman. That's perfect. I don't

05:42think they came in New Jersey. I mean I remember the Mary Kay ladies always coming by. Yes. And I can

05:48literally smell the smell of the Mary Kay makeup. Do you have Tupperware parties too? Yes. Tupperware

05:53parties are not real. Yes they are. That's how you sell them. That's how you buy the Tupperware. All of these

05:57things are real. Well can we get one? Because I actually need Tupperware. It's like amazing right?

06:01I would love a Tupperware party. All right I think this is it up on the right. Yeah. Perfect.

06:16Hi there. I'm Lacey. This is Lisa and Marissa. Hi. Please come in. Oh thank you.

06:23Yeah thank you so much. Thank you. I'm really glad that our house was so clean and presentable for Lacey

06:30because obviously it's such an honor and I've watched all of her crossword mystery movies so

06:35it was cool to really see her. Yes welcome. Make yourself at home. Thank you. So this is sort of

06:41overflow that we have of the influx of our donations. Yeah. Oh my goodness. And we're so excited to be here

06:48today with you in person because we were absolutely moved and in awe of the video that you sent

06:53nominating your friend Liv. Oh thank you. How long have you guys known each other? We've known each

06:57other four years now. Wow. And we met in college and we both love acting so that's how we first met.

07:04That's awesome. I love acting too. Yeah. I love it. I'm in good company. I see you have a lot of animal,

07:12dog donations, products. Yes you may have noticed coming in. How in the world do you organize all of

07:18that and where do you keep all of this stuff? There's overflow in the house but mostly within

07:22our storage shed right outside. That's where we're able to keep everything. Okay I'm definitely

07:27going to want to see the storage. I'm happy to show you guys everything. But now we need to talk

07:32about the party. Okay let's talk about the party. It's a fun part right. We want it to be a huge

07:36celebration that's really joyful and fun. So you've got to like let us in especially while Liv's not

07:41here. Tell us what is she like. Anything you can share. Liv is such a selfless person so she's not

07:46like I want to have gifts at my party. She wants to have things to give to the community. What would be the

07:52most ideal guest list? Definitely our team. So the vets as well as our core volunteers that have been

07:59with us for so many years. We should have everyone that comes to the party possibly bring a donation.

08:04Absolutely. We need a theme too. We need we love themes. Yes. I think kind of that sense of community

08:10maybe block party vibe. Okay like everyone getting together you know different areas of activities. So

08:16casual. Yeah. Yeah. We can call it a party. That's perfect. Done. Done. I love that. Okay I'm

08:27writing it down. Liv's big block. Poe. P-A-W. It's a little posh like the party. We need to go to the party.

08:35Okay I love it. Big ideas. Big part. Let's throw a big party. Big party. Yes. So Lisa and Marissa are

08:46going to the art store. I'm going to check out the garage and then I'll meet them back at headquarters.

08:50One of our volunteers is here gathering supplies. Wow. Oh my goodness. Hi. This is Kendall. She's one

08:58of our superstar volunteers. Hi Kendall. I'm Lacey. Nice to meet you. Look at all this stuff. It's a little overwhelming.

09:04I did not ever think I would be going through our storage unit with Lacey. Maybe we should have

09:17cleaned a little bit more first. So what are you doing? Are you getting ready to take this somewhere?

09:21Yeah. We get a lot of donations. Right. So everything you collect it seems like it's sort of

09:25this is a bit of a catch-all. It ends up here. Yes definitely. This also reminds me a bit of my own

09:30garage. Hopefully many people don't worry. I go right at home right here.

09:36We have grown so much over the past year and it's so overwhelming to manage all of our donations and

09:43everything so definitely it's almost hard to keep track. I mean do you ever feel overwhelmed by this?

09:49One of the biggest challenges I've seen is that we often get requests for very specific like age

09:56groups like puppy food is different than like senior food. Sometimes there's allergies or like

10:01food issues. So being able to really visually see all the different types of food that we have

10:08would be so helpful. I feel like maybe you could benefit from a little organization. I think I might

10:12be able to help with that. That would be a game changer. Don't you think? So much. It's really

10:18amazing the outpouring of donations that she's receiving. So I love that the community is involved

10:23and they're providing all these products to her. So after seeing the garage I think I know what my

10:28hero moment might be. All right well I think I have what I need. Thank you so much for your time. It was

11:16of sense. Yeah. I agree. Yeah. Can you tell us a little bit more about her? We do painting sometimes.

11:21So that's one thing that could be fun. Maybe doing some sort of mural. What about food? Like is there

11:26food that she likes? I think food truck vibes. Okay. Food is very good. Perfect for a black party. So like casual,

11:32yummy, like handheld bites. Yeah. We really need to make this party fun and festive and creative.

11:41So many things. So we're thinking having lots of fun art projects is the way to go. Definitely.

11:48Okay look. Let's get these big tons of paint. They just have a whole bunch of colors for people to.

11:52You need a lot of paint brushes. A lot of paint brushes. Yes. All right let's see what else there is.

11:58Oh look I have a tie-dye kit. What colors do you think she'd be into Eric? Red or orange and then maybe

12:04some aquamarine. Sounds cool. I was feeling a blue too. I like it. Thank you. So I know that they sell

12:10unstretched canvas. So if we just get it on the roll so we can paint it unstretched and then she can have

12:15it stretched later. That's clever. So I think that's the move guys. Okay.

12:18I don't think that we could put one more item in the shopping cart you guys. We are done. Yes. We

12:28have so much to do though. I'm getting a little stressed but this is a great start so we're gonna

12:31go check out. But in the meantime please start thinking about how you're gonna get Liv to the

12:42We have two days to Liv's celebrations. We still have to book a caterer, get decorations,

12:48and work with Liv's friends to pull off the ultimate surprise party.

13:07Good morning. I saw this by the front door. This is yours, yes? Yes. Thank you. Of course. Hi. Good

13:12morning. Do you mind cropping that up against the ladder? Of course. There are a lot of colors and

13:17crafts and fabrics. I feel like the ladies went a little bit overboard at the art store but I'm

13:22confident there's a plan. And with everything we still have on our checklist I'm just hoping

13:25we have enough time to get everything done. Do we have a venue yet? We do. We found a beautiful

13:30courtyard in downtown LA that has an indoor outdoor space and it's perfect for the party. Great. Walk me

13:36through it. Yeah so this is our working diagram and right here where the arrow is is where we're

13:42going to surprise Liv. She's going to walk through here. Okay. We're going to have a buffet over here.

13:48And we're thinking barbecue from one of our favorite caterers. Down home barbecue. Yes. Liv loves barbecue.

13:54Yes. Perfect. I think she's from Texas. She is from Texas. Yeah. I love how you get to see this. It's

13:58like it's all coming together. Yeah. We are filling the entire space with colorful balloons. And then down

14:03here on the brick wall we're going to have your idea of the donation station. That would be perfect

14:11there. Right here we thought it would be a great place to put our collaborative art project. And then

14:20moving down along here we thought under this tree we can have a caricature artist. So cute. I've never

14:26had that done. I've always wanted to have that done. We have to get one of the three of us. Yes let's do it.

14:30But what's the plan for the group project? I mean I do think it needs to be really colorful and vibrant.

14:35So how do we do that? It'll be fun splatter paint. And you just literally throw paint on it? Do you want

14:39to do it now? Do you have time? Sure. Because we were planning on doing it now. Sure. Okay. All right.

14:44Let's put on these white t-shirts though so we don't get dirty. Okay. One of the many perks of getting

14:49to celebrate these incredible heroes is the whole process of watching it come together. Even if you get a

14:54little paint on you. All right. So this is going to be our big community art project. We're going to invite

15:00the guests to collaborate and making a custom piece for Liv to take home. This is just the test

15:06drive to make sure it's going to work. What are we hoping that it's going to look like? Think like

15:10Rainbow Jackson Pollock. Okay. Love it. Okay. All right. Is there a technique you should do? No. You

15:15can't do it wrong. We're just going to fling. Okay. One, two, three. Oh you guys this is getting

15:22really messy though. It's kind of a disaster all over the floor. The paint is going to go way beyond

15:29the tarp. It's going to get on the walls. You guys, I think we should just paint instead. Would that be

15:32okay, Marissa? Yes. In fact, we'll make sure that we get like a thicker paint because this is a little

15:37bit translucent. Yes, definitely. Okay. So even though we had such a good time splatter painting,

15:43we just thought it might not be the best thing for the guests to do. This is why we try it beforehand.

15:47So, you know, that we don't end up with a bunch of angry guests covered in paint. All right. So

15:51what's up next? Marissa and I have to meet Cindy from balloon celebrations in a few minutes. So we

15:56need to change out of these shirts. So Marissa and Lisa are going to meet with the vendors

15:59and I'm going to meet with Maya, the organizer, who is going to help me pull off a very

16:03unexpected surprise for Liv. So we want to get a lot of color involved in this party. You know,

16:10balloon arches we're talking about. So we definitely want to go to balloon

16:14celebration so that we can get color everywhere. Hi. Hey girls. Welcome. Hello. Good to see you.

16:20Cindy is known for her beautiful arches, her beautiful sculptures. Everything she does is

16:25amazing. And we're meeting Dr. Sarah. She is a very important person in our hero's life. She knows

16:31her so well. So we are hoping we can get a lot of information on Liv and we can figure out more

17:02could really make this party personal. So I have worked with Liv closely for over a year now through

17:09her organization, Underdog Community Project. Oh, my goodness. You're a baby, baby. She has really

17:15become an integral part of the community. People know her by name. The first clinic that I went to,

17:21everyone was like, hey, Liv. And I'm like, how do you know all these people?

17:30She has really managed to make herself and this organization an integral part of that community.

17:36So it's incredible, truly. It is. What we're thinking of doing is a big block party.

17:50Community Project so they can be part of the party. Absolutely. And maybe some Franklin's friends

18:17amazing. Wow. So I'm thinking of making her a sculpture way more colorful and artistic. Yes.

19:40My name is Maya Barnett. I'm the CEO and founder of my organization, and we bring a peace of mind

19:45to lives through holistic organization. Well, this is the Underdog Community Project, which is a

19:50nonprofit, and they help the unhoused community and their pets. They're just such heartfelt people

19:55and doing such good things. But as you can see, they're a little overwhelmed. Yes. And I feel like

20:00we need to offer them some sort of organization system. They have volunteers that come in all the time,

20:05and they're digging through boxes, trying to find things. So I feel like if they could see what they

20:10have, really have inventory of what they can provide, it would just make their life so much easier. Yes.

20:16This is a surprise. Right. So we don't have Liv's involvement. One of the things that I saw in there

20:21was a lot of cardboard boxes. So we need to bring things up off the floor and maximize that vertical

20:26space. We're also going to label, label, label. That will be key for Liv and her team to be able to find

20:33what they need as well as maintain it. One of the things that's really big on organization is

20:37maintenance. Okay. You've got to put things back where you found them. It's easier said than done,

20:42right? Like since I was a little kid, put the toys back when you're done playing with them. It makes

20:46sense. Yes. I can totally relate. My garage is a big old mess of stuff. If I buy one more Christmas

20:53decoration, I am in trouble. We don't want to make this difficult. We want to make it easy for them to

20:58navigate and give them back that time that they deserve working in here so that they can go out and be great.

21:03You're absolutely right. Okay. So I didn't tell you this part of the story, but this has to be done.

21:09I'm getting scared. This has to be done by tomorrow. Wow. Yeah. They need some help. Is that possible?

21:17Okay. That's possible. I'm confident in my team. We work really well under pressure and I'm so glad

21:23that you reached out to us for this and I'm really excited to get that done for Liv. You're the best.

25:25good how are you tell me the plan okay so we are going to have colorful balloon art all around

25:33right here and we're going to do the two food buffets for cats barbecue we tasted it yesterday

25:37delicious delicious barbecue food then all the way in the far back we're doing a tie-dye station here

25:43and then on the right hand side we are going to do a canvas for the community art project

25:48that we're doing okay and in front of that we have our donation center where people are bringing

25:54harnesses collars and leashes let's celebrate liv's big block potty which is going to be perfect so

26:02good okay all the time all right let's go we have put this party together in three days we are down to

26:09the wire but we'll make it happen good morning girls hi right through so many surprises oh these are

26:20amazing are beautiful wow girls look at this what is this oh that is adorable two and a half hours

26:34are you kidding thank you for calling yes so kaylee and i have

27:04known each other a really long time and she's been a dear friend of mine for years and she throws

27:08beautiful parties she actually threw a really beautiful bridal shower for me when i was getting

27:13married and it's one of my favorite memories we're honoring this amazing young woman named

27:17liv who started the underdog community project which is a non-profit she's on skid row giving her number

27:23out to people her personal number so she can keep in touch she's like walking the walk not just talking

27:28the talk exactly which very few people do kaylee is an incredible advocate for animals she started

27:34her own company oh norman with wonderful animal products and she is going to be donating some of

27:39those to live and the underdog community project hopefully we can bring you know some awareness to it

27:45well everyone knows how much i love animals i mean more than anything so i'm so glad you called me

27:49and i was able to come by i just launched my company oh norman we are so excited it's all products

27:55dog products we're getting into food shampoos all this stuff but i have bowls and mats so i can give

28:00to the cause donate we can go put it out there on the table show me everything this is so cute i want

28:05to be part of this party so here's our donation table we're still making the sign but isn't it cute

28:11look at these bowls i brought bowls and mats is that the cutest there's a bunch in there absolutely

28:17adorable you're the best thank you you are thank you so much but i want you to meet our nominator yes

32:22didn't know where to look i was like everybody's here i thought you were at work i'm gonna see you

32:26tomorrow i was like what but it was it was such a such a great surprise i know you're probably very

32:33confused yes very i'm so inspired by all of the work that you do with the underdog community project

32:40and all that you do to give back to this community thank you so much this is is so crazy and i do

32:46have so many questions especially for my friends

32:51wow but thank you you know i couldn't have done it alone and i cannot do without the support that

32:56i have you all are just incredible you're making a real difference in the world so many

32:59people talk about doing that but then to actually set out and actually be the change

33:04that you talk about and to have started it on your own it's just incredible thank you i had

33:08the pleasure of learning about everything you do and how it all came to be from your dear friend lena

33:12she nominated you i think i can speak for all of us when i say that you are truly inspirational

33:18and the work we do with the underdog community project which has been your passion for all these

33:23years so i just hope that you remember to always celebrate yourself so as your friends your roommate

33:30your number one fan i just hope you can enjoy the party and all the colors because you bring so much

33:37color to everyone's life that's beautiful thank you it means so much this is just a dream come true

33:44honestly this we've titled live's big block potty and all day we've been saying that it needs to be

35:13i bet you're wondering why we're here i am so many surprises but this is a really fun one that i

35:29maya it's the moment i'm here with liv hello my name is maya so this is maya she runs an

35:38organization company and we brought her here to help with my next surprise

35:41you might be wondering where i am it is actually at your house because lacy and i have a big surprise

35:48for you i couldn't believe when i found out that you all of you load up your cars and go and have

35:53these clinics and we just thought this was a small thing we could do to help make that a little bit

35:57easier are you ready yeah we have organized the underdog headquarters

36:05so good that's your garage

36:22we have all of the toys blankets all clothes at the bottom here we have the carriages all the food

36:32inventory over here everything that you guys need is all organized so that you can continue to do

36:39amazing things out there

36:44i hope you love it is that gonna help you a lot oh my yeah like you have no you have no idea how much

36:50it means it truly it makes such a huge impact that i'm so grateful and like speechless it it's

36:59it's truly amazing and like it's gonna make my life and my volunteers life so much easier

37:06seriously thank you i don't know how you did it but it was magic for sure you're so welcome and so

37:12deserving watching that video next to lacy i was just floored and speechless and definitely getting teary

37:20because to see the shed go from a complete unusable mess to an amazing functional space i'm feeling

37:29really overwhelmed but also so grateful and i'm feeling you know my heart melted a little bit

37:35what a makeover truly from zero to ten i love it i feel a proper glow up a proper glow up i love a

37:43makeover especially when it's functional and it's really gonna help me right it really will it's so

37:48rewarding to give special surprises to those that make the world a better place but that's not all

37:53i have in store for her everyone if you have a moment we'd love to gather around we have a little

37:58bit of a surprise okay well i just want to say personally how touched i am by everything that

38:09you and your entire team do to help not only the animals i think you help the people who love them so

38:15much as well and you relieve a huge burden by doing that so we didn't want to leave today without also

38:21doing our part she puts you in the little rain jacket yeah so i'm very excited that i get to present

38:31this to you this ten thousand dollar donation to the underdog community project to help with all of

38:36your efforts so much just thinking about what we can do and the community that we serve

38:57doesn't have a lot and gets neglected by a lot of people and i think that just knowing that we get to

39:05go and tell people that they will have food for their pets and that they have a collar that works or a

39:12harness that fits their dog perfectly and it won't run away or knowing that their pet is safe we've saved

39:20animals lives before and now with this money we can continue to do that thank you this is is going

39:27to make such an impact i mean even the even ten dollars of donations you know go make such an

39:31impact and it really for us to be able to do not only like what we love to do but to to get the love

39:38back from the community because of that you know we're not here to be you know the the heroes of the

39:44day we're here to like you know build friendships and so to be able to do that and to like continue

39:48building relationships in our community and like to to just have this this sort of security to keep

39:53doing it is is really meaningful well i just want to say you are heroes and you're definitely heroes

39:58to all of us and to me personally so thank you for what all of you do i'm inspired you know you walk

40:04the walk and you really do help so many not only the pets but also the people who hold them so dear

40:09to their heart so thank you for everything i'm so excited about getting to spotlight people who are so

40:14deserving of attention and who are doing so many good things in the world and by shining light on

40:20the wonderful things that they're doing in their communities i hope that it inspires other

40:23people to take those same steps and we hope this helps and it's been just a wonderful day to celebrate
