00:00I'm inside the warehouse of Happy Hats for Kids in Hospitals.
00:13That's so cute. Look at that face.
00:16Where one woman years ago sprung into action after great loss and heartbreak.
00:20She did a spectacular job.
00:24Now what this extraordinary hat designer doesn't know.
00:26Do we look silly or what?
00:28Is her loving husband has nominated her for a much deserved surprise celebration.
00:34Surprise!
00:36Oh my gosh!
00:37Recognizing her lifetime of service and bringing smiles back to hospitalized kids faces.
00:43Does it match my outfit?
00:44Sure does.
00:45So I hope you'll join me as we honor and celebrate our wonderful hero, Sherry.
00:53My name is Lacey Chabert and this is my mission.
00:55I find unsung heroes doing amazing work in their communities and neighborhoods.
01:05It's time for them to shine.
01:09We're working with family, friends and top party planners, Marissa Lehner and Lisa Friedman.
01:15Job well done.
01:16Yay!
01:17Well done, ladies.
01:18We only have three days to create epic parties for our heroes.
01:21Surprise!
01:22Surprise!
01:23Surprise!
01:24Surprise!
01:25Surprise!
01:26Surprise!
01:27Surprise!
01:28Now let's get ready to celebrate.
01:33Hi, Lacey.
01:43Hi, good morning.
01:44Good morning.
01:45How are you?
01:46Hello.
01:46Good, how are you?
01:47I'm good.
01:48I'm over here daydreaming about my daughter's birthday party.
01:51We're in full-on planning mode.
01:52Oh, when is Julia's party?
01:53I'm definitely going to need to pick your brains.
01:55Yeah.
01:56It's in a week.
01:57Okay.
01:57And we always do a theme.
01:59And so when we had a magical mermaid, unicorn dream, she names all of them.
02:04I love that.
02:05Have I ever told you guys that when people ask me in interviews, if I wasn't an actress,
02:08what would I be?
02:09I always say an event planner.
02:10Oh, I love that.
02:11That is my dream job.
02:12So getting to be here with you and spend all this time together and see how you really
02:16come up with the ideas and bring it to life.
02:19Like, I just love it.
02:20You're making a splash.
02:21We'll keep brainstorming.
02:22Okay.
02:23Thank you so much for the help.
02:24I really appreciate it.
02:24Of course.
02:25Well, today, the real party that we're going to be planning is for a very, very special
02:31person doing some very important things.
02:32So I'm excited to show you the video.
02:34Okay.
02:37My name is Sherri Wallstein.
02:40I am the founder and the executive director, and of course, the number one creator of Happy
02:47Hats for Kids in Hospitals.
02:49Our organization has provided gift packages of hats and books and crayons to more than 1.3 million
03:01children throughout the nation and beyond.
03:06Hi, my name is Larry Wallstein, and I am nominating Sherri because our whole life is dedicated to Happy Hats 24-7.
03:18He's always thinking of ways to give some joy to these children.
03:22That's our main goal, to make children happy.
03:26Sherri has dedicated the past 33 years to Happy Hats.
03:32This is her life.
03:33She is the ambassador of bringing smiles to kids in hospitals.
03:38I started Happy Hats in memory of my brother, Michael, who died of cancer.
03:49And I just wanted to do something to bring some happiness to families and their sick children.
03:58Not only with cancer, but with all different critical illnesses.
04:04I was a hat designer, and I wanted to do something with my talent.
04:10And so I created a collection of Happy Hats.
04:15And then we took them to a children's hospital.
04:18The kids went crazy with these hats.
04:28Those hats are going to very vulnerable children that are fighting cancer,
04:36and you don't know if they're going to come out of it or not.
04:40Every time they're handing them out, a child is going to smile.
04:43They're going to have fun getting this gift,
04:45and it'll make them forget what they're going through for a little bit.
04:49When Sherry goes to the hospital, all the people on the floor, both of the doctors,
04:59the nurses, wear all these hats, and everybody gets in the mood.
05:03And it brings and lifts the spirits and happiness for everybody.
05:08The more joy she can spread, the happier these children can be, the happier she is.
05:13Do we look silly or what?
05:15I've had a lot of losses in my life, but through those losses,
05:23I've turned them into happy hats, happy smiles, happy children, happy families.
05:32I mean, there's nothing better than that.
05:35What a lovely woman, taking her talents, literally the use of her own hands,
05:39making these hats and brightening kids' days, which, you know, as a parent,
05:44that must be the absolute hardest time of your life to see your child sick.
05:47And I know you would do anything to brighten their day.
05:50And in swoops this woman who, like you said, just giving them a hat and just
05:54brightening their day for a few minutes or a few hours, it's so touching and it's so valuable.
05:58With the smile on their face.
05:58It does.
05:59She can't cure them, but she can certainly give them a smile.
06:02Yeah, I think she's awesome.
06:04And I just can't wait to celebrate her and she deserves to be celebrated.
06:07So I made an appointment with Larry at Happy Hats Warehouse.
06:10So we can go over and Sherry won't be there.
06:12So we'll be able to, you know, we can go talk to him.
06:14I'm excited.
06:15Okay, let's go, let's go.
06:24What's it called when you make hats?
06:25A milliner.
06:26My grandmother was a milliner, yeah.
06:29Was she really?
06:30Yeah, yeah.
06:31In the 1930s in LA, she made these really amazing hats.
06:35Did you ever see any of the hats that she made?
06:37You know what, no.
06:38She passed away when I was really young.
06:41But I'd love to find one and see what they look like.
06:43Did she have a shop?
06:45My grandfather had a haberdashery.
06:48Haberdashery?
06:48It is harberdashery.
06:49Harberdashery.
06:50Haber, maybe it's haberdashery.
06:52It's a haberdasher.
06:53Haberdasher.
06:55He had a haberdashery.
06:56Am I saying that wrong?
06:56No, you were right.
06:57I was wrong.
06:57Are you sure?
06:58No, you're a haberdasher.
06:59So you're the grandchild of a haberdasher and a milliner.
07:03That's really fun.
07:04And then there's me, and I can barely put an outfit together.
07:11Can you imagine she was sitting right here?
07:13That would be terrible.
07:14Oops, we're selling Encyclopedia.
07:15Hello.
07:16Today, we're meeting our nominator, Larry,
07:18at the Happy Hats warehouse.
07:20This is actually where they make the hats for the kids.
07:22This is where the magic happens.
07:29Larry, hi, Larry.
07:33Oh, hi.
07:33Hi, I'm Lacey.
07:35Come on in.
07:36How are you?
07:37Oh, I'm great.
07:37I'm so glad to see you.
07:39It is so nice to meet you.
07:40Oh, thank you for coming.
07:41I'm Lisa.
07:43I can't wait to hear about Sherry from Larry's perspective.
07:45I also want to know more about them as a couple.
07:47They seem so sweet together.
07:49Follow me.
07:50Let's go sit down.
07:51Great.
07:52Thank you so much for having us.
07:54It's really incredible to see it in person.
07:56I see different holidays, different seasons, different themes.
07:59Even birthday hats?
08:00Yes.
08:01Yeah.
08:01It's really remarkable.
08:03How does she do all of this now?
08:04I mean, do you have volunteers?
08:06Do you have additional people who are making hats?
08:10She has a lot of volunteers.
08:12They have people that cut the patterns, people that sew the patterns,
08:16people that put the decorations on the hats.
08:19And then each person writes a little note in the hat.
08:22I love that.
08:23So when the kid gets the hat, there's a little note for who actually made the hat.
08:28I want to make one.
08:29So meaningful.
08:30Larry, how does everyone find out about Happy Hats?
08:33I don't really know.
08:34That's Susan.
08:35So would I be able to meet Susan and speak with her?
08:37Absolutely.
08:38She's the person that runs all the operation.
08:41I'm looking forward to speaking with Susan.
08:43But first, we need to get to know a little bit more about Sherry.
08:45Sherry sounds like an incredible person.
08:48I'm so glad that I met Sherry.
08:50It has changed my life so much.
08:53I mean, it's just fantastic.
08:55We met and it was like love at first sight.
08:58We're very similar.
08:59It's now Larry and Sherry.
09:02Yeah.
09:02She's a special person.
09:04She is.
09:04She is most certainly a hero.
09:05She needs a special party.
09:06And she needs a special party.
09:08She does.
09:08Well, we need a little help from you also.
09:11Can you tell us some things that Sherry really likes outside of Happy Hats?
09:15Well, she likes peacocks.
09:18We have a lot of peacocks around the house.
09:20Does she have a favorite color?
09:21I think blue.
09:22She likes blues.
09:23Okay.
09:24So we're thinking colors, teal, purple, peacock theme, right?
09:29I think that would be great.
09:30Okay.
09:30Maybe a few real peacocks would even look better.
09:33Let's see what we can do.
09:36Yeah.
09:36I just know all these peacocks I could call.
09:38Absolutely.
09:39I'll get a few from the house and bring them over.
09:41The wheels are turning.
09:42I'm getting, we're gonna find a peacock.
09:44I'll round them up and put them in the car.
09:46Perfect.
09:47Perfect.
09:48I see that look on Lacey's face.
09:50She wants a real peacock.
09:52We can try, but we can't promise anything.
09:55Does Sherry have a favorite drink or a favorite food?
09:59She really likes tea.
10:00Oh, I love that.
10:01I think a fancy tea party would be perfect.
10:05She loves dressing up.
10:06I love it.
10:07She really does.
10:08What about like a happy hat or tea party?
10:10Oh, that's so cute.
10:11That's good.
10:11I love that.
10:12I love that too.
10:13Yeah, that's good.
10:14This is so fantastic.
10:15And we just can't wait to make her feel special and...
10:17Oh, I'm so excited.
10:18I can't wait.
10:19This is great.
10:19We are too.
10:20We're so excited.
10:22Boy, I really, I love it.
10:23I love it.
10:24Thank you so much for doing this.
10:25Yay.
10:26So would it be okay if I spoke with Susan now?
10:28I'll take it to her now.
10:29Thank you so much.
10:29Can we walk around and look around?
10:31Yes, absolutely.
10:32Go walk around.
10:32Feel free to look at anything you want.
10:34Ah, thank you.
10:35I love what I'm hearing so far,
10:37but I want to get a little more inspiration for my hero moment.
10:41So I'm going to meet with Susan while Lisa and Marissa take a look around the warehouse.
10:45Hi, Susan.
10:45Hi, it's Lacey.
10:46Oh, hi.
10:47Hi.
10:48Hi, how are you?
10:48Nice to meet you.
10:49Nice to meet you.
10:50So nice to meet you.
10:51Larry said I could find you here.
10:52Oh yeah, please have a seat.
10:53Thank you so much.
10:55What is it about Happy Hats that means so much to you personally?
10:58Um, knowing that children are getting a gift in the hospital when they're at their most vulnerable
11:04time to give them something to play with, something to make them laugh.
11:09Knowing that you've put a smile on a kid's face, that's beautiful.
11:11Yeah.
11:12Yeah.
11:13How many volunteers do you think you have?
11:14At least a hundred.
11:15Wow.
11:16We do a lot of corporate workshops and we do Girl Scout workshops.
11:20Oh wow.
11:21So Girl Scouts will come in, they'll get a happy hat pin for their badge.
11:25That's awesome.
11:29This is a beautiful color palette.
11:30Yes.
11:31Okay.
11:31Oh.
11:32Hi.
11:32Hi.
11:33Hi.
11:34Hi.
11:34Are we interrupting something?
11:36No, not at all.
11:36We were just kind of checking out the space.
11:38Yeah.
11:39Are you guys volunteers?
11:41Yes.
11:41Oh, okay.
11:42So Marissa and I were just meeting with Larry and we're throwing a party for Sherry and Larry
11:47said we could just walk around and try and get some inspiration.
11:50What are you guys doing?
11:51Well, we're going to be decorating our superhero hats.
11:54Oh.
11:55And if you want, come and sit down with us.
11:57We'll walk you through it if you want to.
11:59Yes.
12:00I love the idea of getting to experience what the volunteers at Happy Hats do.
12:04Yeah.
12:05Decorating hats?
12:06Sign us up.
12:06Right up our alley.
12:07So I'm going to decorate each side.
12:09I got it.
12:09Yes.
12:09Okay.
12:10And you want to aim for at least three to four things per size.
12:14Okay.
12:15Our volunteers, they're absolutely wonderful.
12:18I mean, they put their heart and soul into this.
12:20They're so creative.
12:21Every hat is unique.
12:23Not two children are going to get the same hat because each volunteer puts their own love and
12:29attention to it.
12:30Right.
12:30We have one lady.
12:31She's 102 years old and she decorates hats for us.
12:33No way.
12:34102.
12:34102.
12:35How incredible.
12:36Yeah.
12:36We had a volunteer who remembered getting a hat in the hospital when they were a child.
12:43No way.
12:44Yes.
12:44The following time that they came in, they brought their old happy hat with them and showed us their
12:49old hat that had been made like 20 years ago.
12:52Oh my gosh.
12:52That's giving me credit.
12:53That's so sweet.
12:54Yeah.
12:54That's amazing.
12:55It is.
12:56No, I'm so inspired by all of this.
12:58Susan, thank you so much for your time.
12:59Oh, thank you.
13:00This has been really informative and so wonderful to hear from you and to get to experience happy
13:04hats.
13:05And I can't wait to see Sherry's surprise.
13:07I know.
13:08It will be very exciting.
13:09I'm excited to see the look on her face and to meet her.
13:14The reason why I got into it was my grandma, she's actually, she's elderly and she has dementia.
13:20I wanted to find like a tactile thing for her to do at home with me.
13:25And so her smile, also just imagining the kids too, it's really fun.
13:30And I feel like it's fulfilling.
13:31I like that part of this is in the making of the hats.
13:34It's not just like the receiving, but it's also the creating and the giving.
13:38So it's just twofold what people are getting out of this.
13:42Absolutely.
13:42Do you guys know Sherry personally?
13:44Have you guys met her?
13:45Yeah.
13:46When I first came here for an interview in order to be a volunteer, Sherry told me about her story
13:53and it really warmed my heart how she was able to turn, oh my goodness, um, such a tragedy into
14:02something so beautiful.
14:04That's true.
14:04And something that her legacy will live on.
14:07Oh my gosh.
14:08It's okay.
14:09It is.
14:10It's true.
14:10It is beautiful.
14:11It's hard.
14:12Yeah.
14:13But yeah.
14:13To take sorrow and turn it into joy for people is, is really a beautiful thing.
14:18Would it be okay if we take some of these back with us so we can take it back for inspiration?
14:22Of course.
14:23Yeah.
14:23Whatever you guys need.
14:24Okay.
14:24Thanks guys.
14:25Thank you guys.
14:26It was so nice meeting you.
14:27Thanks for helping us.
14:28Thank you too.
14:31Bye.
14:41Oh.
14:42Oh.
14:42Good morning.
14:46What is going on?
14:47Hello.
14:47Do you want to play with us?
14:48Please, please.
14:49Oh, I'm terrible.
14:50Really?
14:51I'll watch from over here.
14:52Oh, you're good, Lacey.
14:53Look at that.
14:54Yeah.
14:54That was surprising.
14:56What's the plan with the badminton?
14:57Well.
14:58We were looking for an activity to do at the tea party.
15:01Okay.
15:02So we thought maybe badminton.
15:04Yes.
15:04I think almost everyone could play badminton.
15:07Except for me.
15:07I really cannot play it either, to be honest.
15:09I'm terrible.
15:10That was a lucky shot.
15:11These two are always so much fun.
15:13You literally never know what you're going to walk into.
15:15But we got to get down to business.
15:17This party isn't going to plan itself.
15:18So where are we with the party?
15:20Well, we did get a little inspired with our colors, right?
15:23When we were at Happy Hats, we went down the aisles.
15:25I have so much felt there.
15:27It was so fun for Marissa and I.
15:30And we landed on these jewel tones.
15:32Lisa and I were looking for peacock colors, right?
15:35These, like, a peacock blue.
15:37Perfect peacock colors.
15:38I think we need some gold, too, because Sherry is so fancy, Larry said.
15:42She loves anything elegant.
15:44So let's bring in some gold flatware, some pretty teacups.
15:47Mm-hmm.
15:48Lace.
15:48Yeah.
15:49The ultimate tea party.
15:50The ultimate tea party.
15:51I love it.
15:52Yes.
15:52And we found a beautiful place called L.A. River Gardens.
15:56And it is just the perfect spot for a tea party.
15:58It's already beautiful.
16:00There's always so many details that go into party planning.
16:03But there's this one detail I just can't stop thinking about.
16:06You know, I was thinking, I can't believe that
16:08Sherry and Larry have peacocks in their backyard.
16:10I know.
16:11It's so fun.
16:12It is fun.
16:12Do you think that we could maybe, I don't know,
16:15have some real peacocks at the party?
16:17I don't know.
16:17I'm kind of interested.
16:19Well, Marissa, if we're having peacocks,
16:20or exploring the idea of peacocks,
16:22don't get too excited.
16:23I feel like this batminton might be
16:26a bad idea.
16:26I'm just going to keep something on the ground.
16:28Oh, croquet.
16:29Croquet.
16:30Croquet.
16:30Yes.
16:31Croquet is perfect.
16:33All right, let's discuss what we can place where.
16:36Here is the entrance where Sherry and Larry would be entering from.
16:40Okay.
16:40And this white area right here is really where the party space will be.
16:44So those are the small tables that we were talking about.
16:47Marissa and I really want to do the three-tier platters.
16:50This green grass area right here can be for croquet.
16:54It was going to be Batman, but now it'll be croquet.
16:57Here in this blue square is a gorgeous fountain.
17:00And I thought it'd be a really pretty backdrop to do our tea buffet, right?
17:04Oh, I love that.
17:04Oh, I love that.
17:05Um, and then here we could place a hedge wall and a hedge wall just to make the space
17:10more enclosed.
17:10Okay.
17:11And then we've been talking to a woman named Ashley from Lolliprops who's making us these
17:15amazing four-foot tall hats.
17:17We can scatter them maybe here and here and maybe even one back here.
17:21So this is kind of a general working floor plan and we'll see what else we fill it with.
17:27I can't wait.
17:27This looks amazing.
17:28That's a good space for it.
17:29Super, super, super fun.
17:31All right.
17:31So what's on the agenda for today?
17:32We're going to head out to see Chef Betty and we're going to talk about tea sandwiches.
17:37Okay.
17:37And we're going to go visit Ashley from Lolliprops and see how the hats are coming along.
17:42Great.
17:42I have a lot of things on my agenda today too.
17:44Susan put me in touch with Edith, who is a child life specialist at a local hospital.
17:49And so I'm really excited to speak to someone on the hospital side
17:52who gets to see what these hats really mean to the patients.
17:55And I also have my hero moment to work on.
17:58So good luck.
18:00All right.
18:02Party's tomorrow.
18:03So, you know.
18:08Hi.
18:09Hi, Betty.
18:10How are you?
18:11Welcome to the new house.
18:13It's so good to see you again.
18:14Good to see you too.
18:15Hi here.
18:16Hi to Betty.
18:17Well, have a seat.
18:18Okay, great.
18:18Today, we are meeting Chef Betty, who makes incredible, beautiful pastries.
18:24And we've invited Larry to come along and sample them with us.
18:27Would you like to join us at our tea party?
18:29Oh, thank you.
18:30Thank you for meeting with us.
18:31Oh, I really needed your help.
18:33I wouldn't miss it for anything.
18:35This is great.
18:36Well, you're going to meet Chef Betty.
18:38And Chef Betty was actually on Top Chef.
18:40There she is.
18:41Oh, hello.
18:43Oh, hi.
18:44Hi, Larry.
18:45How are you?
18:45I've wanted happy hatter.
18:47So, here we have happy basil lemonade.
18:50Wait.
18:50This is the happiest lemonade I've ever seen.
18:53Yeah.
18:54We have cheer abounding here.
18:56Wait, can you explain what this is?
18:57So, for the lemonade, we take fresh basil and we make a simple syrup.
19:01And then we add it to fresh lemon and water.
19:03Cheers.
19:04Cheers.
19:05Cheers.
19:05Cheers.
19:06Cheers.
19:06Cheers.
19:06Cheers to Sherry.
19:07Cheers to Sherry.
19:08Aw, to Sherry.
19:08Sherry and happy hats.
19:09Yes.
19:10The idea of a tea party might seem old-fashioned or fussy, but they're not.
19:15They're really current, and everyone loves to do them because it's fun to get dressed up and
19:20feel fancy and sip some tea.
19:22And it could be for all ages.
19:23We do them for some little children's birthday parties.
19:25We do them a lot for bridal showers.
19:28It's really for everyone.
19:29This looks amazing.
19:30With any high tea, you always have the finger sandwiches.
19:34So, we have tiny little mini cupcakes here.
19:38And this is edible glitter.
19:41Wow.
19:41Did you see this, Larry?
19:42And they're coming in every color of the rainbow.
19:44Wow.
19:45For tomorrow, can we cover this in peacock colors?
19:48Yes, absolutely.
19:49Amazing.
19:50So, this is the type of thing she really loves.
19:53Well, before you say anything, you have to taste it.
19:55I think I can force myself.
19:57Well, enjoy.
19:58I'll be back in a little bit to check on you guys.
20:01We ready?
20:02Yes.
20:02It's a treat.
20:05This is great.
20:06Mmm.
20:07So simple.
20:08So good.
20:08This is like something that you see like in those mixed chocolate boxes.
20:12Okay.
20:13Chocolate is like one of her favorites.
20:15Okay.
20:15She likes chocolate.
20:16Let's make sure we have chocolate.
20:17This is just beautiful.
20:19And it really is.
20:20Believe me, this is the kind of stuff she really likes.
20:22Aw.
20:22So, what's the verdict?
20:24These sandwiches were a must.
20:26We need them for the party.
20:27Perfect.
20:27And we found out that Sherry loves chocolate.
20:29So, we want to definitely incorporate the chocolate.
20:32Okay.
20:32Well, Betty is the best.
20:33Oh, thank you guys.
20:34Thank you so much for coming.
20:36I really appreciate it.
20:37And I'm gonna go start cooking.
20:39Yeah.
20:40Let's start cooking, don't you guys?
20:41All right.
20:43Thank you, Betty.
20:43The little things that you do that she's done to make it pop.
20:48Yes.
20:48But that's Sherry, right?
20:49She's someone who's doing something small, giving a child a hat, but it's making a huge impact.
20:55Exactly.
20:56But with adding these little things that they put in makes it like, wow.
20:59While Lisa and Marissa are meeting with Larry, I'm meeting with Edith.
21:10Hi.
21:11How are you?
21:11I'm Lacey.
21:12Great to meet you, like.
21:13I'm really hoping she can help me with my hero moment for Sherry.
21:16Have a seat.
21:17I just want to give Sherry that same kindness and joy that she's given to so many back to her through this special gift.
21:24Can you tell me a little bit more about what you do at the hospital?
21:26I am a child life specialist.
21:29It means that I help kids cope with every part of the hospital, from their IV starts, to surgery, to end of life, and facilitate play.
21:40Okay.
21:40Play is the opportunity for them to just be kids and keep developing while they're in the hospital.
21:46That's why I was so inspired by what Sherry does, that she's able to bring a smile to a kid's face and brighten their day.
21:53And I was just really taken by all the stories that I've heard so far.
21:58Her hats bring so much joy to the kids, to their parents.
22:05When I go around and hand out the hats, I've had fathers who ask me for a hat for themselves and they will wear it.
22:14It sounds like, especially in some of life's toughest moments, it's a little piece of joy that people can grab onto.
22:20It absolutely is.
22:21So, Edith, I have a favor to ask.
22:23Okay.
22:24I want to do something special for Sherry.
22:26I want to do something that really makes her feel appreciated.
22:30I was thinking it would be really nice if the kids could possibly decorate, draw on, or sign this tea set.
22:38She loves tea so much, and since we're having a tea party.
22:42So, there's markers and stickers, and I thought the kids could go through and decorate the tea set, sign their names if they'd like, and if they want to include a personal note, they can, no pressure.
22:52I'm sure they would love that.
22:52But I just think it would be really nice for Sherry to hear from the kids how much the happy hats have meant to them.
22:57Yeah, I think they would enjoy that.
22:58Do you think you could help me with it?
22:59Yeah, they would enjoy the craft, and they would enjoy giving it to her after all the fun, special love that she shares with them.
23:07So, I'm sure they would enjoy it.
23:09Thank you so much for your help with this, and I can't wait to see you at the celebration.
23:12Oh, I'm so excited for it.
23:14Talking with Edith has me really excited about having the kids decorate this tea set for Sherry.
23:19I just think she's going to feel loved and so appreciated, and I can't wait to see the look on her face when she opens this gift.
23:25It's my pleasure.
23:27Yes.
23:27It was so nice to meet you.
23:28Oh, it was lovely to meet you.
23:39Well, I'm excited to see what Ashley's been cooking up in here.
23:43While I've been meeting with Edith and working on my hero moment, Lisa and Marissa are on their way to lolliprops
23:48to check on how their giant hat idea is coming along.
23:52I'm not sure I know what this means, but I love the sound of it.
23:55Hello, Ashley.
23:56Welcome.
23:57Hi.
23:57Hi.
23:58I didn't realize it was going to be this big, and it's incredible.
24:01When you're decorating, scale is extremely important to keep in mind.
24:05The bigger something is, the more impact it has, and also filling a space up with large objects of decor
24:12can make the space feel more intimate in a really good way.
24:15So, what's the next step on this?
24:17I'm going to wrap it with fabric.
24:19We can talk about colors and textures.
24:22I started pulling some ideas.
24:24Can we see?
24:25Yeah, you come over here.
24:26Oh, right behind me.
24:29Could you order this for us?
24:30This is amazing.
24:31I love this velvet, too, right here.
24:33So, should we play with some of these colors and see what it looks like just as an example?
24:37Let's check.
24:38So, how about you grab this side?
24:40Yeah.
24:41All right, Lisa, what do you think?
24:42You guys, the velvet is perfect.
24:44Okay.
24:45Really.
24:45It's great.
24:46Spot on?
24:46Yes.
24:47Why don't we use the peacock fabric around the bottom?
24:49Let me just...
24:50Oh, pretty.
24:51This fabric is perfect for our peacock theme.
24:53I love it.
24:54Yes.
24:55What is this amazing thing?
24:56Um, it's literally a dollar store picture frame that I painted gold.
25:00Well, you guys, it's so pretty.
25:02Definitely, we need some feathers.
25:04Some little flare.
25:06How about something like this?
25:08Yes.
25:08I love it.
25:09I love it.
25:10Yeah, some more.
25:10Yes.
25:11This is perfection.
25:12Our next hat, though, like just like this, but with purple.
25:15Okay.
25:16All right.
25:16Thank you so much for doing this by tomorrow.
25:18Yeah.
25:18We can't thank you enough.
25:19We got our work cut out for us.
25:21Yeah.
25:21For sure.
25:22And we promise for our next client, we will give you some more time.
25:24Yes.
25:26The color is just perfect.
25:35Okay.
25:35And then here's our peacock friends.
25:37These are such a...
25:38Excuse me.
25:39Good morning.
25:40What is happening here?
25:42Good morning.
25:44Nerissa, this hat is amazing.
25:46I can't believe she did this literally overnight.
25:49I love it.
25:50It's perfect for your happy hatter's theme.
25:52Yes.
25:53I love these hats so much that you're just so amazing.
25:57And if they happen to disappear by the end of the party, don't check my trunk.
26:01Do you think it'll fit in my trunk?
26:03Should we walk you through the floor plan?
26:04Yes, please.
26:05Okay.
26:06So guests are going to come in down the ramp and we've got tables right under the stringer lights.
26:13And then on the tables, we have beautiful tiered platters filled with little sandwiches and pastries.
26:18And guests are going to play croquet on this grass area over here.
26:23So we have some special guests coming.
26:25Well, you know how we were talking about if we could possibly get live peacocks?
26:30Right.
26:31Are there going to be live peacocks?
26:33They're coming.
26:33Are you serious?
26:34They should be here soon, actually.
26:35Oh, that's going to be so much fun.
26:36Sherry is going to flip out.
26:37We wanted to make Lacey's vision for this party come to life,
26:41which meant we spent the entire night calling every animal wrangler in Los Angeles.
26:45A miracle of all miracles, the very last number on our list,
26:49had peacocks available and they are coming to the party.
26:52Anything for Lacey.
26:53Everyone, we have two and a half hours until guests arrive.
26:56Okay, these are adorable.
27:15That's beautiful.
27:16I like that.
27:19Good morning.
27:20Hi.
27:20Hi.
27:21How are you?
27:22Where do I go with these?
27:23Oh my goodness, so good to see you here.
27:26I'll help you.
27:26Okay.
27:27Thank you so much.
27:28I wore my purple Hallmark colors.
27:29And you look perfect.
27:30I love it.
27:36Look at those beautiful flowers coming in.
27:38Oh my goodness.
27:41Gosh.
27:41Aren't they so pretty?
27:43These are beautiful.
27:45And do you guys want to maybe do the croquet?
27:48I don't know anything about croquet, so...
27:49Do you know about croquet?
27:51Uh, it has a stick and a ball, right?
27:53Oh.
27:53Yeah.
27:53We're off to a good start.
27:54Maybe?
27:54Okay, so we need to make like a diamond with the wickets.
27:57Yes.
28:00You made your diamond very tiny.
28:02Uh-oh.
28:02Is that bad?
28:03So do like one big diamond here.
28:05Right.
28:06And one big diamond here.
28:07I'll just move everything down a little bit.
28:08How about that?
28:09That's good.
28:12All right, let's finish setting up.
28:13We have an hour left.
28:14Okay.
28:14An hour?
28:15One hour, everybody.
28:16One hour.
28:16One hour.
28:16One hour.
28:17You can do it.
28:31This is for my hero moment.
28:32It turned out so well.
28:33I'm just going to place it under here.
28:36No one's looking.
28:37It's going to be a great surprise.
28:40Hello.
28:41Hi.
28:41I bring food.
28:43Yay.
28:45These are incredible looking.
28:48Let's set up a table.
28:49Yeah.
28:49Let's do it.
28:50Let's do it.
28:51Presentation.
28:52Attention to detail.
28:53It's all about throwing a great party,
28:55and Chef Betty has nailed it.
28:57It has to look good and taste good, right?
28:59We've got the cream cheese and cucumber.
29:02The smoked ham.
29:04Fresh fruit for the color.
29:06And then I love the peacock color.
29:08Those are gorgeous.
29:09Mini cupcakes.
29:10And these are edible peacock flowers on the Madeleine.
29:14It's whimsical and just fantastical.
29:16Yeah.
29:17Just like Sherry.
29:18Well, we just need to add some flowers,
29:19and our table is set.
29:20Yeah.
29:21Great.
29:21That's great.
29:21Thank you so much.
29:22You're very, very welcome, you guys.
29:24Enjoy.
29:27That's so cute.
29:31Whoa.
29:32Oh, my goodness.
29:34They're here.
29:36This is Linus, and that's Petey.
29:38They are just incredible.
29:39I mean, you can't imagine those colors in real life
29:43until you see them up close like that.
29:44Totally.
29:44Yeah.
29:45Nature's art right there.
29:46Are we allowed to touch them?
29:47Absolutely.
29:48I mean, you don't see a peacock every day,
29:50so seeing one up close is so special.
29:51They're so beautiful.
29:53This party keeps getting better and better.
29:55Well, I'm so glad they're here.
29:57They're beautiful.
29:58Welcome to the party, Linus and Petey.
30:11What happened to our peacocks?
30:14So sad.
30:14It's a little too warm.
30:16Oh, but you fixed it right up.
30:17Oh, thank goodness.
30:18I love the way everything turned out.
30:20It's like a magical little dream come true.
30:22I love it.
30:22Guess we'll be here in two minutes, so perfect timing.
30:24Okay.
30:25All right.
30:25Thanks for everything.
30:26Perfect.
30:27All right.
30:28the guests are coming.
30:30All right, the guests are coming.
30:58Yay.
30:59Hi, come on in.
31:01Nice to meet you.
31:02Hi, thank you for coming.
31:04Hi, how are you?
31:06Nice to meet you.
31:07Your outfit is perfect.
31:09Hi.
31:10Nice to meet you.
31:11Kathy, you remember from our office?
31:14We have the two Elaine's.
31:15Hi, Lacey.
31:16Nice to meet you.
31:17Thank you so much for coming.
31:18Sherry will be here in a few minutes.
31:19We'd like everybody to wear a hat.
31:21You guys want to wear any of these?
31:22You look fabulous.
31:23The big moments.
31:29They're ready for the surprise.
31:30She's coming.
31:32Probably was very old this place, I would say, huh?
31:34Yeah.
31:35We're moments away.
31:36She'll be walking down the ramp, and then we'll all yell surprise.
31:38Interview this way.
31:51Interview this way.
31:52Here she comes.
31:52Here she comes.
31:53I can't wait.
31:53I've got to see the look on her face.
31:55Surprise!
31:55Surprise!
31:56Oh, my gosh!
32:03You invited them, too?
32:05Yes.
32:06Hi, Sherry.
32:07It's so nice to meet you.
32:08I've heard so much about you.
32:09Thank you, honey.
32:12Aren't you on the Hallmark movies?
32:14Yes.
32:14I feel so honored to meet you.
32:16Well, now you are on a Hallmark show.
32:19This show is all about celebrating heroes, and this whole celebration is all for you.
32:24This all came about because you were nominated as a hero by Larry.
32:29I nominated you.
32:31Thank you, sweetheart.
32:34I just think that Sherry deserves recognition after all the years she's put in, the dedication,
32:40and people appreciate what you've done, and I think that you deserve something like this.
32:46Thank you so much.
32:47Learning that Larry nominated me as a hero is so loving and so precious.
32:53I was so inspired when I heard about your decades of work with Happy Hats and the way
32:59that you put a smile on so many kids' faces, and today we hope we put a big smile on your
33:03face.
33:03I am so shocked to see all these special people in my life right here in front of me.
33:13I love your hats.
33:15They're my favorite.
33:16You get the old ones.
33:17I love this Happy Hatter-themed tea party.
33:22Everybody is wearing a hat.
33:24So this one is for you.
33:26Oh, thank you.
33:26And Larry.
33:27Happy hats make me happy.
33:30Guest of honor of the party.
33:32Oh, thank you.
33:33We have a lot of surprises planned for you today, and we just want you to enjoy yourself and
33:41enjoy the party.
33:43I just want to say to all of you, you are all my heroes.
33:50I'm just the one who had an idea, but you all put it into action.
33:57So many of you help bring some smiles and laughter to little brave and courageous hospitalized
34:05children, and I thank you all very much.
34:11Let's have tea.
34:12I can't believe this with the peacocks.
34:20Please feel free to play croquet.
34:23Also, we have this amazing dessert table over there.
34:25Where did they get these cupcakes?
34:28Oh, these are so fantastic.
34:31See, it's beautiful.
34:33We should have had this at our wedding, honey.
34:38Fantacular, huh?
34:40You deserve it.
34:41Oh, thank you.
34:43We tried to do as much peacock as possible.
34:46Fabulous.
34:46Everything.
34:47Aw.
34:48Down to the infant.
34:49I'm very detail-oriented.
34:51Marissa and you are the best party planners.
34:54If I would have known you, I would have had you do my wedding.
34:58Oh, this is just fabulous.
35:01Well, you're fabulous, so you deserve it.
35:04To see everybody recognize the importance of what she does was just overwhelming, and she
35:12will always remember this moment.
35:18That is just too cute.
35:23I love, love, love this happy hat.
35:28Croquet.
35:29Oh, croquet.
35:29I never played croquet in my life.
35:36Oh, I know what you mean.
35:45She's doing high heels.
35:46Oh, wow.
35:49Hit it hard.
35:52Oh, she's a pro.
35:54Susan, could you help me?
35:55I just wanted to gather everyone's attention.
35:57Folks, if we could have you all come up here, please.
36:02We just have a couple little surprises.
36:05Edith, would you join me?
36:06Do you mind?
36:07Thank you so much.
36:08And Sherry, will you come over?
36:09I'm so excited to give Sherry this gift.
36:12Edith was able to have the kids decorate this tea set, and it's absolutely beautiful.
36:17It's really special.
36:18I hope she loves it.
36:20So, Sherry, we wanted to do something special for you.
36:22Just for the decades of outstanding work you do with Happy Hats, I mean, you put a smile
36:27in so many kids' faces, and you give them hope.
36:30We hope we put a smile in your face today.
36:32And Edith helped me out with this.
36:34Yes.
36:35The children at her hospital helped to bring this together.
36:38They wanted to say thank you not only for what you've done for them, but what you've
36:41done for so many kids over the years.
36:46Oh, my gosh.
36:47Since we know you love tea, we thought that you could celebrate with this beautiful
36:51tea set, and the kids have decorated it for me.
36:54Oh, the kids decorated this?
36:56The kids did it all.
36:57Oh.
36:58It's been 32 years that we've been decorating hats for children.
37:03Look.
37:04Look, with the diamonds on it.
37:06The kids put all of these jewels on these cups, too.
37:10And today, I received this beautiful gift from the children in the hospital.
37:16Oh, my gosh.
37:17This is too cute.
37:19And it just so touched my heart.
37:23Look at this with all the jewels on it.
37:25It's beautiful.
37:26Very, very special gift.
37:28Dearest Sherry, thank you from the bottom of my heart for thinking of the kids in the
37:33hospital.
37:34You give us your blessings in the form of these fun, sweet, and special hats.
37:40Love, Edith.
37:41Child life specialist from White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles.
37:46I think there are some notes from the children in here.
37:48I want to read.
37:49I'm going to read every single one of them.
37:51Thank you so very much.
37:52You're so welcome.
37:53This is a very, very special gift.
37:56We have one more little surprise.
37:58I get to see our heroes' faces when I get to tell them there's more.
38:02It's hard for me to contain my own excitement, but I have to pull it together for the big moment.
38:07Will you give me one more second?
38:08I'll give you two seconds.
38:09Be right back.
38:10So one last thing.
38:23Sherry, the work that you do is so meaningful, and I know that you support and give hope to
38:28families during a very difficult time when their kids are in the hospital, and we hope
38:32to help support you in continuing that beautiful work that you do.
38:35So we're excited to present you with this $10,000 donation to Happy Hats for Kids in
38:40Hospitals.
38:48Thank you so much.

39:18That is one of the biggest gifts that we got this year.
39:22I'm feeling so blessed.
39:25This will help so many children and their families.
39:29Because you can imagine when a child is sick and they get a hat or they get a little loving
39:39gift from us, what it does to the family when they see their child's smile.
39:45And that smile is worth $10,000.
39:50That one smile.
39:53It means a lot.
39:55She's a phenomenal woman.
39:57She's great.
39:58She puts out so much effort to these children to try to make them happy.
40:02The $10,000 donation to Happy Hats will make such a huge difference to everything.
