It will be a chilly, clear night across the country, except for a few showers in the far northeast of Scotland, east of England and northwest Wales. The low overnight temperatures may bring spots of frost and pockets of mist and fog which will quickly clear throughout the morning. Tomorrow will be mostly sunny, with some showery bursts across eastern England. - This is the Met Office UK weather forecast for the evening of 22/09/2025. Bringing you today’s forecast is Alex Burkill.

00:00Hello, very good evening to you. If you thought last night was a bit chilly, well, again, it's going to be quite chilly through this coming night.
00:07It's all because high pressure is across the UK, and whilst it is shifting a little bit further eastwards through the next few days,
00:14it's going to continue to dominate our weather, which is why we're going to stay so settled, so calm.
00:19We're going to have a lot of dry weather around and mostly light winds as well.
00:23Yes, there are a few showers here or there, and away from the centre of the high, we will see some stronger winds,
00:28and the position of the high will also dictate where those winds are coming from,
00:32which then plays a part in exactly where it will be warm and where we'll see the cloud developing.
00:36But on the whole, lots of dry weather to come.
00:38Now, as I said, it is going to be, again, another chilly night for many of us.
00:42That's because the high pressure is going to lead to largely clear skies overnight and also pretty light winds.
00:48There will be some showers towards the far northeast of Scotland, Orkney and Shetland mainly,
00:53and also a few fringing into the far southeast of England and maybe one or two elsewhere.
00:57Northwest Wales, for example, but on the whole, dry and clear,
01:00and so we're going to see those temperatures dropping yet again.
01:03It may not be quite as chilly as last night in a few places,
01:06but nonetheless, towns and cities, mid-single figures for most places,
01:10and rural spots a few degrees lower than this.
01:12So some places we'll see temperatures dipping a bit below freezing,
01:15particularly over the shelter glens of Scotland, but even towards southwest England,
01:19we could get a touch of frost first thing tomorrow morning.
01:22Also, a few pockets of mist and fog here and there,
01:24but these will be quite quick to clear because there will be a lot of sunshine through the morning.
01:29That being said, there will be some showery bursts still across parts of eastern and southeastern England.
01:34These could pep up a bit as we go into the afternoon, more cloud here,
01:37and then that cloud is going to become more widespread as well as we go through the day.
01:41So even though it's a sunny morning for many places,
01:44it will be markedly cloudier by the afternoon,
01:47although still some bright or sunny spells in between that cloud.
01:50With that then, because there is going to be more cloud around,
01:54even though temperatures on paper are similar to Monday, really,
01:57if anything, it might feel just that little bit fresher
02:00because there's just a bit less sunshine on offer for most of us
02:03and feeling markedly fresher perhaps in the southeast
02:05where we have those blustery winds and the risk of those showers.
02:09Those showers actually continue for quite a while
02:11as we go through the evening and the start of the night.
02:13It could still be a little bit heavy at times,
02:15but then they will eventually start to fizzle out
02:17as we go through the early hours of Wednesday.
02:19Otherwise, it's looking like another largely dry night.
02:22Lots of clear sky on offer yet again.
02:24So once more, we are going to see temperatures taking a bit of a drop,
02:28particularly across parts of Scotland.
02:29That's where they're likely to be lowest.
02:31Could get to lows around minus one, minus two Celsius here.
02:34Elsewhere, again, towns and cities generally falling into the mid-single figures.
02:38So another bright, yes, but fresh, chilly start to the day on Wednesday.
02:43Then another largely fine day, really.
02:45There's still one or two showers dotted around here and there,
02:47but most places are staying dry.
02:50Most places are seeing some decent sunshine,
02:52albeit with just a little bit more cloud bubbling up developing
02:55as we go through the afternoon.
02:57Once more temperatures are on the, well, they're around average,
03:00ever so slightly below in a few places where you get the sunshine,
03:03that will counter that.
03:04Where you're stuck under the cloud,
03:06then it is going to feel that little bit fresher.
03:08Notice there is a front towards the west of the UK.
03:11That's staying to the west for now
03:13because the high pressure is still dominating.
03:16But as that high pressure continues to shift away towards the east
03:19after another largely fine day on Thursday
03:21and again through much of Friday,
03:23that front will eventually start to push its way in.
03:25So by the weekend, things are set to turn a bit more unsettled.
03:29But Honor has more information about all of that
03:31in our week ahead forecast,
03:33which you can find on both YouTube and also Spotify.
03:35See you later.
