00:00Thank you for joining me for your evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:03It's been a bit dull, damp, dismal for many places through the course of Tuesday.
00:08Wednesday offers something a little bit brighter.
00:10Here's the big picture.
00:11Low pressure sitting to the north of Scotland.
00:14This tangle of weather fronts, well, that brought the cloud and the rain for many today.
00:19Now, there is a little bump in the isobars following on behind that.
00:23But after that, there's more weather systems brewing out in the Atlantic
00:27to bring more wet and windy weather across the country Wednesday night and Thursday.
00:32But as I said, this little bump in the isobars, a little ridge of high pressure,
00:36will bring many of us a much drier and brighter day on Wednesday.
00:39It won't be completely dry, however, as we'll see shortly.
00:43First, though, let's get back to Tuesday evening because the cloud and rain steadily clearing.
00:46Still some heavy bursts, even one or two thunderstorms over parts of the Midlands, North Wales.
00:51This line of rain may well persist from East Anglia across the Midlands
00:55into mid and North Wales through the night.
00:58Either side of it, though, looking a lot drier.
01:00Still a few showers getting into Western Scotland,
01:02but where we've had largely fine conditions through Eastern Scotland
01:05and Central Belt during the day.
01:08That will keep clear skies overnight.
01:10And that will allow it to turn a little chilly as the winds ease down,
01:13down to single figures in towns and cities.
01:15We may not be far off freezing through some shelter glens in Scotland.
01:18But in the south, we are well above that.
01:21And, in fact, some places staying in the teens here.
01:24So not a chilly start here, but generally still quite a wet start.
01:28There were parts of the Midlands, Wales and East Anglia in this zone,
01:31this line of thicker clouds with some outbreaks of rain.
01:34That will trickle south.
01:35So we will see some showery outbreaks of rain breaking out across southeast England,
01:39really from late morning onwards.
01:40And then into the afternoon, northeast England, perhaps southeast Scotland,
01:44seeing some scattered but heavy showers.
01:47So, as I said, it's not completely dry.
01:48There will still be a few showers around.
01:50But certainly in many western areas, it's looking much, much brighter than it did through Tuesday,
01:55with quite a bit of sunshine on offer as well.
01:58If you dodge those showers, staying fine.
02:00The wind's lighter.
02:01And so feeling a bit warmer as well.
02:03Temperatures generally a couple of degrees higher than Tuesday's values,
02:06probably peaking in the southeast 22, maybe even 23 Celsius.
02:10Many places high teens.
02:12So close to average for the time of year.
02:13During Wednesday evening, still the possibility of one or two heavy showers over eastern areas.
02:19But they tend to fade pretty rapidly.
02:21That next weather system out in the Atlantic, well, that then moves in.
02:24So more rain spreading in across the country during Wednesday night.
02:28To greet us on Thursday morning.
02:29But look at the temperatures overnight.
02:31A mild night again in the south, but a much milder night further north.
02:35We may dip down to single figures across the far northeast before the rain arrives.
02:39But generally, we'll start Thursday in double digits.
02:41But we're going to start with a lot of cloud, a lot of outbreaks of rain and drizzle.
02:45And that will continue for a good chunk of the day across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:49Misty, murky conditions around the coasts and over the hills of Wales and southwest England.
02:54Parts of the Midlands, eastern England, may well brighten up and cheer up.
02:57We could see some sunny spells coming through.
02:59But that'll be the exception, I think, rather than the rule.
03:02If we do see the sun poking through, then the temperatures could really jump up.
03:06We may get into the mid-20s possibly.
03:08But generally, we're looking at high teens, low 20s.
03:11Again, feeling quite warm and quite humid.
03:13But obviously, not feeling that warm where the rain and the wind persists across parts of southern Scotland.
03:18In particular, with that breeze coming in, those western coasts will feel a little fresher.
03:22The weather chopping and changing throughout this week.
