00:00It's the autumn equinox today and so although meteorologically autumn started a few weeks ago
00:05it is now autumn in the astronomical calendar as well and with a fresh start to the day that many
00:11of us had well it really does feel like autumn is here and that was because we have high pressure
00:17across the country and that high pressure led to largely clear skies as you can see in the earlier
00:21satellite imagery and also light winds for most of us as well so perfect ingredients for temperatures
00:27to take a bit of a drop also perfect ingredients for some fine weather as we go through much of today
00:33into the afternoon lots of sunshine across much of england and wales just one or two showers towards
00:38kent perhaps a bit more cloud though for scotland and northern ireland and a few more showers here
00:43mainly around coastal spots the showery bursts most frequent and heaviest for orkney and shetland
00:48where there will be some blustery winds at times too elsewhere mostly light winds and whilst we're
00:55looking at temperatures getting into the mid-teen celsius across scotland and northern ireland where
00:59we have more cloud further south with the sunny skies feeling a bit warmer as temperatures peak
01:05around 17 or 18 celsius generally temperatures are though a little bit below average for the time
01:10of year and if we just look back four days ago when on friday we had temperatures peaking
01:1627.8 celsius for some towards the south it's around 10 degrees fresher than it was at the end of last
01:24week more fine weather to come as we go through the end of the day in fact a lot of the cloud across
01:28scotland and northern ireland is actually going to break up so some late sunshine and then largely
01:33clear skies as we go overnight still showery bursts continuing towards orkney and shetland still
01:39some blustery winds here and actually towards the east southeast of england a few showers skirting
01:43their way in and the wind's starting to strengthen but most places though having a dry clear night and
01:49particularly towards the center of the high that's where we're going to get some light winds and so
01:54do expect a few pockets of mist and fog to develop but these will quite quickly clear once the sun comes
02:00up tomorrow morning and again we are going to see our temperatures taking a bit of a drop some places
02:05around scotland the shelter glens could quite easily get close to if not a little bit below freezing
02:11and even elsewhere i mean towns and cities falling to mid single figures and rural spots a few degrees
02:16lower than this so yes a fresh chilly start to the day for many of us tomorrow then as we go through
02:22the day itself more sherry bursts across parts of east to south eastern england and the winds will be
02:27strengthening here as we go through the day also going to see a bit more cloud coming in from the east so
02:31although it's a largely sunny morning as we go through the afternoon across england and wales we are
02:37going to see things turning quite a bit cloudier that being said across the far south of wales and
02:42also maybe devon cornwall somerset clinging on to the sunshine for a little bit longer for scotland and
02:47northern ireland well maybe a bit more in the way of sunshine compared to today there will be some cloud
02:53around but some brighter or sunny breaks developing now again temperatures are going to be a little bit
02:58on the low side for the time of year we're looking at mid teens quite widely and with more cloud as we go
03:04through the afternoon across england and wales compared to today well if anything it's probably
03:07going to feel a bit fresher and especially so with those blustery winds towards the east and southeast
03:13now as we go through the end of the week well the generally fine picture looks set to continue for a
03:18little while yet high pressure stays in control so more dry and often sunny weather to be had however
03:24by saturday into sunday that looks like we're going to see the weather taking a bit of a turn
03:30and so some unsettled weather pushing its way in so expect some rain and some stronger winds by the
03:36weekend also worth noting that yes we have some chilly nights at the moment we're going to see a
03:40few more of those for a little while yet but later on in the week we are going to see our temperatures
03:45rising less noticeable by day but by night it's definitely going to become a little less chilly
03:50for more of us for more information about what you can expect through this week's with the weather
03:55well check out our week ahead forecast which honor will be bringing to you later on bye
03:59bye
