00:00Very nice that you two have both entered the transfer portal today.
00:03Crowder wearing a Buccaneers hat and you're wearing a Tampa hat.
00:05Screw the Dolphins.
00:06You guys are Buccaneers fans, right?
00:08As I said earlier in the show, this is where my son goes to school.
00:13He's a Tampa Spartan.
00:14He goes to University of Tampa.
00:16And Crowder's dad played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
00:19And Crowder grew up in Tampa.
00:21So there's some definite highs.
00:23Tampa has the Bucs, the greatest football team, right?
00:26I'll tell you what, I'd take Baker Mayfield over just about any quarterback in the league right now.
00:31I love that guy.
00:32You know what's funny?
00:32If I would have asked you in the summer, would you take Baker Mayfield over to a Tunga Vailoa?
00:36Hawke would be like, absolutely not.
00:37I've been a Baker guy for a couple of seasons.
00:40I'm not so, I would have thought about it and I would have taken Tua.
00:44But now I would take Baker over Josh Allen, Drake May, and Patrick Mahomes.
00:48Goodness gracious.
00:49But to answer your original question or your statement, yeah, that was glorious.
00:53You know, I know people don't feel bad for me, right?
00:55I've seen six championships.
00:56My team was bad for about four or five years.
00:59The last two, three years, though, I've been rooting for this team to just lose because I wanted the best draft pick possible to kind of reset the roster.
01:06I love the hire of Mike Rabel.
01:07I wanted him to be the coach once they got rid of Belichick and they ended up promising the job to Gerard Mayo.
01:13But you watched the game last night and you watched it last year.
01:15You saw signs of Drake May with nothing around him turning garbage into gold.
01:19They still don't have elite weapons really on the offensive side of the ball.
01:22Will Campbell could be elite, but we're talking about skill position players.
01:26And for them to walk into Buffalo, that's the first time in a while where I actually said to myself, oh, I actually want them to win a game.
01:33And they did so once again.
01:35So, yeah, it's been about four or five years.
01:37But I'm not saying we're back yet, but we're moving in the right direction as you guys still don't have a quarterback since Dan Marino walked out of the door.
01:44And Galby, like Hawk said, we haven't won in Buffalo.
01:48We haven't beat Josh Allen in Buffalo yet in, what, years, five, six years of Tua.
01:51But the narrative that the Patriots have now surpassed the Dolphins, and Hawk brought up a great point.
01:57We had the 23 season where you thought the Dolphins were turning it around and we were number one in offense and all that.
02:03After a three and two start, has Rabel and May passed McDaniel and Tua?
02:09It was my expectation before the start of the season.
02:11Now, you've got to do it, and they've still got to finish the job, as just as easily they won that game up against the Bills.
02:17They had a crappy second half up against the Raiders.
02:19They fumbled away a game up against the Steelers, and they should have beat the Steelers.
02:23I look at the schedule.
02:24I thought going into the season, I said to myself, this team will be the second best team in the AFC East.
02:28Don't believe in Aaron Glenn and the Jets.
02:30They stink.
02:30And I thought this was going to be a disaster with the Miami Dolphins and Mike McDaniel and Tua Tunga Bailoa.
02:36So, yes, if the Patriots – it's not that they have to make the playoffs this year.
02:40You look at their schedule.
02:41I can give you 10 wins total on that schedule with the three that they already have.
02:45But the Patriots, bare minimum, should and I think will, as long as Drake May is healthy, be the second best team in this division.
02:52Hey, what can Drake May be?
02:54Because we were on with Ben Bolin before the season started, and I think somebody asked him that question.
03:00He said, look, the reality is he hasn't won a primetime game yet.
03:03Yeah.
03:03And I think he had only won one game where he had started.
03:06Volin was negative, though?
03:07Volin was negative?
03:09No, no, no.
03:09I mean –
03:09Because that makes me feel great.
03:11If Volin was negative, I think we got the best quarterback in the league that happened.
03:14Volin's been saying Mac Jones is better than Tua.
03:18Then he said Drake May was better than Tua last year.
03:20But I just wonder what –
03:21Mike Jones, by the way, has looked better than Tua this season.
03:24Ben Volin's right.
03:26What can he be in your eyes?
03:28I know it's too early, but I remember watching Josh Allen, his first playoff game.
03:32Sure.
03:32I'm like, bro, this guy's going to be a bum.
03:34Like, fine, he'll be a starter, but he's going to be a bum.
03:36And then he turned into what we've seen now.
03:39Do you expect him to be on that level or maybe a little bit less, like Tier 2?
03:44What do you expect?
03:45So when they drafted him, I said they had to take a quarterback.
03:49I wasn't the biggest fan of his in college in terms of me thinking he was going to be great or elite.
03:55I just thought he would be good, and you have to show me that he could be great.
03:59He could show me he could be elite.
04:00What he did last year, it doesn't get talked about because they won no game.
04:04That line is one of the worst offensive lines I've ever seen, and they didn't have any wide receivers.
04:09And they really still don't have that much around him.
04:11So he showed me a lot last year, even though statistically it wasn't great.
04:14Like, the other night he didn't throw a touchdown pass, but he just played really well.
04:17What he could be, and I thought about this last year, if there was a threesome,
04:23Crowder's now ears are all perked up, between Justin Herbert, Josh Allen, and Matthew Stafford,
04:30I think the offspring is Drake May.
04:34Like, I see a little of Herbert, I see a little of Stafford, and I see a little of Josh Allen.
04:39So I think he could be a very good quarterback in this league.
04:42Reminds me of, like, pay-per-view roulette that you used to have to play at the hotel.
04:47Brought to you by Tootsies.
04:48Yeah, you used to have to be just based off the title.
04:51You were going to guess what you were buying on SpectraVision, and you ended up with that
04:55terrible reason.
04:57I don't like that category.
04:58Wait a second.
04:59Guy drew me in with a, hey, I'm going to mention a threesome here, and all of a sudden,
05:03it's a guy named Herbert.
05:04Let me tell you, if that threesome happened in Miami these days, you'd be putting that
05:10baby in the Fountain Blue at Joe's Stone Crabs, Prime 112.
05:16You guys would be loving that person.
05:19I'm talking about a spin-on narrative, goodness gracious.
05:23So, the Dolphins, though, on Sunday, Gelby, they had this collapse to the Carolina Panthers.
05:30So, what do you do with the team?
05:34Can Mike McDaniel, I was saying to Crowder and Solana early in the show, like, let's say
05:39they beat the Chargers this Sunday.
05:40Chargers are a pretty good team.
05:42Let's say they beat the Chargers.
05:43Do you have any thought that, yeah, you're going to have some ups and downs during a
05:49season, the Carolina game was a down, but maybe with the talent they have, maybe they
05:55can overcome, or is this just an abject failure from top to bottom, in your opinion?
06:03Could one or two weeks you look good with the talent that you have?
06:06Sure.
06:07Like, hey, anything could happen.
06:08The Patriots beat the Bengals last year to open up the season.
06:11The Giants, two weeks ago, beat the Chargers.
06:14Then they lose to the Saints.
06:16So, could you look solid for one or two weeks?
06:18Sure.
06:19But this team's a disaster.
06:20Mike McDaniel's got to, how many times did they get on this show and say, Mike McDaniel's
06:24got to go, Chris Greer's got to go, and Tua is an overpaid quarterback that, unfortunately,
06:30his body's too damaged, and I think his confidence is too damaged.
06:33I just don't believe in him.
06:35That trifecta is not working.
06:38I would hope at the end of the year, McDaniel's out, Greer's out.
06:41McDaniel, I think, will definitely be gone with Steven Ross, who the heck knows, with
06:45Chris Greer.
06:46But I think the lone survivor after this year, if I had to put money on it, would be Tua,
06:50and then the clock really starts to even tick even quicker on him on when you can maybe
06:55get out of that contract and move off of him.
06:57And what's the...
06:58I'm with you.
06:59I don't think McDaniel makes it to next season.
07:01For sure, I don't think he makes it through the season if it keeps going the way it's going.
07:04Is it the leader of men?
07:06Is it the goofiness?
07:07Is it the play calling?
07:08Is it like...
07:09When you say...
07:10You've been saying it for a long time, Greer.
07:11Yeah.
07:11Like, why have you seen that McDaniel's not the guy to lead this team?
07:15You know who he reminds me of a little bit?
07:17Chip Kelly.
07:18When Chip Kelly was in Philadelphia, he had some good starts and then some horrible finishes.
07:22Like, McDaniel has...
07:24It's weird for me to say because I've been so critical of him.
07:26If you look at his record, it's not as if he's been this disaster, one of the worst
07:31coaching hires of all time, but he was supposed to take Tua to that next level.
07:36And I think what really did him in, because he did stabilize Tua after the whole disaster
07:41of Brian Flores, was the year they went to the playoffs with Skyler Thompson, all right,
07:45it looked fine.
07:46But it was last year without Tua, he looked lost.
07:49And I think a lot of people then started to realize, well, look at what guys like O'Connell
07:54and Shanahan do when backup quarterbacks get in.
07:56He just didn't have that gear in him.
07:58And I ultimately just think he is a doormat.
08:01Like, he's a player's coach.
08:03And there's a difference between a player's coach and a doormat.
08:06And I just don't think there's control in that locker room.
08:08And the players, they kind of look at him like the class clown, and they just walk all
08:12over him.
08:12He seems like a nice guy.
08:13You know what?
08:14He's going to be a really good offensive coordinator for the next two to three years,
08:18probably somewhere.
08:19But I just don't think he's had coaching material.
08:21What about Tua?
08:22Because Sam Darnold is the example.
08:24Baker Mayfield is probably the best example.
08:26We could talk about Geno Smith.
08:28There's a lot of guys in the NFL who, it just didn't work wherever it is that they were
08:33drafted, no matter what that organization tried to do.
08:36And then a couple of years later, change of scenery, change of scheme, change of roster,
08:41change of talent around them, change of head coach.
08:43It just worked elsewhere.
08:45Jared Goff, I guess, could be another example, even though he went to a Super Bowl.
08:48You can't see that for Tua?
08:50Going somewhere else?
08:51Better offensive line?
08:52Better running game?
08:53He just has to be a game manager, and then he could take a team deep?
08:57You don't see that?
08:58No, because the body is damaged, and I think there are some, you know, mentally there are
09:03some confidence issues right now, just with the way that he's handled things this season
09:07and, you know, the way that he's speaking at the podium as well and how he's kind of
09:11been on the attack.
09:12I think the outside noise is finally getting to him this year.
09:16I used to be a big fan of Tua.
09:18I thought Tua was going to be the real deal when he was at Alabama, and he suffered a bunch
09:21of injuries there.
09:22We've seen some flashes of it, but you just don't see it through the course of 17 games
09:27in a regular season, whether it's from his own inconsistencies or just his inability to
09:32stay on the field.
09:33So you look at a guy like Sam Darnold, yeah, his confidence was damaged, but Sam Darnold
09:37never had when he was with the Jets.
09:39Tyreek, I know he's out right now, or Jalen Waddell.
09:41So when he went to a different environment and he, you know, failed in Carolina, but
09:46then when he gets to Minnesota, look at the weapons that they have.
09:49Tua's already had a coach that we thought is a good offense of mine.
09:53I know he's never really had the line, but he's had, you know, running backs where he
09:56most of that one big year.
09:57Devon H.N. has been solid.
09:58He's had the two wide receivers.
10:00He's had the talent or enough talent to be the guy.
10:04And that's why I think ultimately I just don't have a lot of hope because there's a lot of
10:08damage up here.
10:09There's a lot of damage all throughout the body and he's had a lot of talent around
10:12it.
10:12Do you feel the same way about John Harbaugh that you do about Mike McDaniel talking about
10:18a guy who loses the starting quarterback and then all of a sudden looks like he doesn't
10:22know what's going on out there?
10:24It would not be crazy to me.
10:26I think for two guys, I know no one's going to say it about Tomlin right now because they
10:30only have one loss in the season, but Steelers fans and Ravens fans, some of them will be
10:35like, oh, you can't get rid of Tomlin and Harbaugh.
10:37Well, eventually the Eagles got rid of Andy Reid and I know Tomlin and Harbaugh had a Super
10:41Bowl.
10:41Andy Reid didn't.
10:42The Eagles have won two Super Bowls since getting rid of Andy Reid and Andy Reid has
10:46gone on to have a great coaching career, you know, where he's actually won Super Bowls
10:50compared to just getting them there or getting to the NFC championship game.
10:54So every relationship has an expiration date.
10:57You're not going to hear it on Tomlin right now.
10:59Now they go lose wildcard weekend again.
11:00It's like, okay, what the heck are we really doing?
11:02Because they haven't won a playoff game since 2016.
11:04But you look at Harbaugh, he's someone that's been through two quarterbacks.
11:07He's won a Super Bowl.
11:08But on this back end with Lamar Jackson right now, they are a bad big game team, whether
11:14it's Derrick Henry fumbling, Lamar having some issues in the postseason, you brought
11:18in Munkin, that didn't work two years ago when you had the number one seed.
11:20And Mahomes told me after the game, I just had to be a game manager because of how great
11:24our defense was playing.
11:25So I don't think they'll move off of Harbaugh, the Ravens.
11:28But if they did at the end of the season, I can't really crush them for doing it.
11:32Yeah, I'll be on the way out.
11:34Is Joe Flacco going to save Cincinnati's season?
11:38So I did the Lions-Bengals game for Compass, and I was talking with Brian Baldinger last
11:43week, and I said, they got to get somebody else in.
11:45This is before the game.
11:46And then Browning throws the three interceptions.
11:48I was surprised it was Flacco, not only because he was coming from the Browns in division,
11:53but that line is garbage.
11:55So yes, Joe Flacco can get the ball to Tee Higgins and Jamar Chase, but he may be in
12:01the nursing home coming up in two weeks because this offensive line is not just bad, it's
12:06putrid.
12:07That's why I thought they would go for a quarterback that at least has some more mobility, like
12:12a Jameis Winston or even a Russell Wilson.
12:16Even the slightest modicum of being able to move out of the pocket.
12:21Just don't be like Hawk in the beginning of the segment where he looked like he was just
12:26sitting still.
12:27Like that Flacco could play behind the Bengals line.
12:32Yeah.
12:32And by the way, can I ask you guys a question?
12:35This is why I'm a great national guest for this local show.
12:38All right.
12:39Why were the Panthers playing so early yesterday to open up the, what's that, 5 p.m., that puck
12:45drop?
12:46That's your guy, Gary Bettman.
12:48Take it up with Bettman.
12:49Disrespect?
12:49Disrespect.
12:50Total disrespect.
12:51Total disrespect.
12:52You have a triple header and you're going to have the banner raising as the early game?
12:56Get out of here with that nonsense.
12:57Back to back champs.
12:58You're not telling us anything we don't know.
13:00That was a massive disrespect.
13:03It's your fault.
13:04So it doesn't matter.
13:04It's your fault.
13:05It's your fault.
13:06You and the rest of the national people up in New York, up in Boston, despite having
13:11the back-to-back, yeah, the back-to-back champs are down here.
13:14And all you guys want to do is talk about the Rangers who got crushed yesterday and their
13:1850th anniversary.
13:19Spend more time talking about the Panthers.
13:22Spend more time talking about the Panthers.
13:23100.
13:24100-year anniversary.
13:25I only go back 50 years.
13:26Everything before that.
13:29He looks at the most recent tweet he saw.
13:31Yeah.
13:32He's waiting for, who is it, Paolo Venturo to get on the court.
13:36I mean, seriously, though, it's funny to hear that.
13:38Oh, why are the Panthers getting disrespected?
13:40Because you guys don't talk about them.
13:42That's why they're getting disrespected.
13:42I just brought him up, you dope.
13:46I'm the one that brought him up.
13:49Did you guys stay for the game, or did you just do the Hockman photo dump, you know,
13:53get the photo out there?
13:54Hockman and Appel stayed for the game and bought our tickets.
13:59Yeah.
14:00Bought our tickets.
14:01I had an open house.
14:03I had to go talk to my kids' teachers.
14:04Yeah.
14:05It was very nice that you weren't in a wheelchair this time around,
14:07Crowder, at the stadium.
14:09You know, I wrote down on the media elevator after our broadcast,
14:13because I said a little bit of time to kill, with Bob Wischusen.
14:17Oh.
14:18Yeah, that's your guy.
14:19Great play-by-play voice for hockey.
14:21Should be the number one and do the Stanley Cup final.
14:24He's phenomenal.
