00:00Previously on Project Runway All Stars.
00:03We've asked the fans to take part
00:06in the first interactive challenge ever.
00:09Wow.
00:13I can't decide if it's bonkers or brilliant.
00:15I think it's bonkers.
00:16I might be an outsider.
00:18Lord Kathleen has offended, in one way or another, everyone.
00:22They want me to, like, talk to them
00:24like we came from the same place.
00:25It's not going to happen.
00:31This is really good.
00:32I would wear this.
00:34I'm really happy in looking at this dress.
00:36You have such a graphic quality to what you do.
00:38For a dress that might be too sexy, it's not too sexy.
00:42Anthony Ryan's the winner of this challenge.
00:44There's too much to think about.
00:46When you're using a stretch fabric and a zipper,
00:48it's taking away the illusion of a slimming waist.
00:52I had no idea that it was about zipping together panels.
00:55Maybe I'll get through to you.
00:56Oh, dear.
00:57I'm sorry.
00:58Andre, we were out.
01:00It's too bad.
01:0213 of the best designers from Project Runway are back.
01:06Back for more.
01:07Back for blood.
01:09Admit it.
01:10You missed them.
01:11And this time, the competition is tougher than ever.
01:14This is warmth.
01:16Each week, their skills are tested to the limit.
01:19Hideous or fabulous.
01:21This is not a game.
01:22Nothing gets past me.
01:24Who will be cut and who will have it all sewn up?
01:27This is Project Runway All Stars.
01:30The winning designer will have the chance to create a custom branded capsule collection with
01:35Nine West.
01:36The winner will also receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine and a position as
01:40contributing editor for one year.
01:42From Laura Mercier, an all-expenses-paid trip around the world to Fashion Week such as Paris, London,
01:48Milan, and Tokyo.
01:49A technology suite and office space from HP and Intel to bring their creativity to life
01:54and run their business.
01:55A sewing and embroidery studio from Brothers Sewing and Embroidery to help launch their line.
02:00And a cash prize of $150,000.
02:04Oh.
02:05Oh.
02:06Oh.
02:07Oh.
02:08Whoa.
02:09Hello.
02:10Wow.
02:11Wow.
02:12Hello.
02:13Wow.
02:14Hello, designers.
02:15Hi.
02:16Hi.
02:17Nine of you remain in the competition, but which of you will end up in the grand finale?
02:23will end up in the grand finale.
02:26To get there, you have to get through this week's challenge.
02:29The theme is a fashion-forward trend
02:32that everyone is talking about this season, androgyny.
02:37Oh, no, no.
02:40To me, androgyny means, regardless of what the silhouette
02:43looks like, it can be worn either by a male or a female.
02:46Androgyny, it's totally fun.
02:49Your challenge is to create an androgynous look
02:51for your model.
02:52It should combine masculine and feminine characteristics.
02:56Nothing about my aesthetic is androgynous,
03:00so I'm thinking, what the hell am I going to do?
03:03Don't limit yourself.
03:04Push the boundaries and create some avant-garde outfits.
03:08Now, it's got to be avant-garde, too.
03:10They want to see something fresh, something
03:12that they haven't seen before.
03:14You have $150 to shop at Mood, and the rest of the day
03:18to pull off your look.
03:19I'll see you back here on the runway
03:21to check out your androgynous creations.
03:24See you then.
03:26Bye.
03:26Bye, Carolyn.
03:33Should be interesting.
03:34Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo.
03:37Avant-garde, but not costume.
03:39I'm thinking of everyone that's a little bit androgynous.
03:42Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga, David Bowie.
03:46I want to do a very strong shoulder houndstooth jacket
03:50with some leather accents, because that would also be very masculine.
03:53But I still wanted it to be fitted and sexy on my female model.
03:56I'm thinking of all the different things in men's and women's wear that I appreciate.
04:02So I'm making a smoking jacket with kind of exaggerated proportions
04:06and exaggerated detailing with some really feminine cutouts.
04:10That's going to be so much work.
04:11Do you have enough time?
04:12All leather.
04:14All leather.
04:16And I will do everything cut out.
04:17I'm very excited about this challenge.
04:21I decided to do a woman's piece made out of traditional menswear fabric
04:26to really tweak the avant-garde-ness of the outfit.
04:30I'm going all out to hell with it.
04:32This is make it or break it for me.
04:34It's not about being safe.
04:36If I crash and burn her, I crash and burn her.
04:39All right, who's ready to go to Mood?
04:41Ready to go spend some money?
04:42Yeah.
04:43All right.
04:44Bye, bye, bye.
04:51All right, we've got 30 minutes to shop.
04:54And get your tushies back to the counter.
04:58I'll pull this out just in case.
05:00Do you have this darker?
05:02I'm choosing the colors to go with my black and white houndstooth
05:05because I want it to pop on the runway.
05:07Just like that.
05:08So good.
05:09Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:10I'm a little stressed that I've taken on making a constructed,
05:14fitted jacket, but I think I'm going to be able to pull this off.
05:19Whatever the dress is here.
05:20This challenge really threw me for a loop
05:24because usually I do all feminine, very flowy, soft dresses.
05:28But I found a trimming that has a little bit of that armor feeling.
05:32And men wear these kind of pieces, so I want to put this on my girl.
05:36It could go completely wrong, or it could stand out
05:39as a fabulous design.
05:41Time's up, everyone.
05:43Head to the counter.
05:47Right now you're at 131.
05:48I don't need this.
05:49I'd be able to get two pairs of shoulder pads
05:51if I give a zipper.
05:52I don't have to sacrifice too much.
05:54Thank you, Moon.
05:55Thank you, Moon.
05:56Thank you, Moon.
06:07A good suit looks amazing on a woman and a man,
06:10so that's the basis of the design.
06:12I'm creating these circular fins that go around the body,
06:17which I think makes it cool and avant-garde.
06:24So a crazy pant?
06:25They've got a little detail making them different.
06:28Just trying to get everything I can done so when fitting time comes,
06:31ready.
06:32Ready.
06:33I hear you, sister.
06:38Hi.
06:39Hi.
06:40Oh, wow.
06:41Hi.
06:42Georgina Chapman walks in, and I'm just thinking,
06:45oh, .
06:47I'm very excited about this challenge.
06:49I've come down here because I'm going to give you a bit of a twist.
06:52Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
06:54And it involves your models.
06:57So I'm going to bring them out.
06:59Oh, my God.
07:01Oh.
07:02Oh, my God, that's impossible.
07:04Male models walk in.
07:07You are kidding me.
07:08Thank God I left a massive amount of seam allowance.
07:12I feel completely screwed right now.
07:15Don't panic.
07:16We still have your other models.
07:17So you're going to need to do two looks.
07:21Now you're going to get one extra day, though,
07:24to make one extra outfit for these boys.
07:28You're going to get a second shopping trip tomorrow
07:31and another $150.
07:33Oh, God.
07:34Sweet.
07:35OK.
07:36Make sure they work as a pair because your male and female
07:38models will be coming down the runway together.
07:41You have 30 minutes to work with these guys,
07:43get all their measurements, and your female model fitting
07:46is in half an hour's time.
07:48Good luck.
07:51Measurements.
07:52Oh, my goodness.
07:53Oh, boy.
07:55Oh, God.
07:56That's quite a twist.
07:58Could be nine.
07:59Oh, boy.
08:00What am I going to make for you?
08:02So do you like girls or boys?
08:04Always.
08:05That's good.
08:06I have five sisters.
08:07Two of them are single.
08:08I'll have to heck yeah.
08:09Great.
08:10Now we're best friends.
08:12I know, totally.
08:13We're already getting intimate.
08:14The front, we'll figure that out.
08:16Then the back, we could probably do it in the back
08:19like that.
08:20Oh, yeah.
08:21When I'm looking at him, I realize that I
08:23don't have to tweak my design to become more masculine.
08:26I think a good tailor piece can go both ways.
08:29The same pants.
08:30Okay.
08:31That's the trick.
08:32I love it.
08:33I'm doing more of an evening wear inspired androgynous look.
08:38So I'm trying the women's dress on the guy,
08:40and I really like how it looks on him.
08:42And the fact that it's a dress on a guy already
08:45makes it avant-garde, so check there.
08:48Yeah, you look really good in it.
08:50So that's like actually good to know.
08:51So you're going to choose two and four tonight.
08:53No, this is front, back.
08:55Oh, front, left.
08:56It's been a while since I've done menswear,
08:59but I'm comfortable.
09:01Both my mother will wear pants, and bows
09:04will have those Scorpios corals.
09:06Yep, it's such a girl kit, but that's all right.
09:08When my male model tries on my female model's jacket,
09:11it fits.
09:12So I am definitely going to tailor the jacket
09:15with a little bit more of a eased fit,
09:18not as much of a tight, tailored, feminine fit.
09:21Perfect.
09:22Yeah.
09:23I want to do a skirt with like assless chaps.
09:29No.
09:30I think that's so hot.
09:32You could get arrested for that.
09:33No, I would do a pant underneath it.
09:35But I would do a chap over it.
09:37Yeah.
09:38In a different color.
09:40You don't like it.
09:41No.
09:41I love it.
09:42Because some of this in here is borderline costume.
09:45Do you think that's costume?
09:46No.
09:48That's just vulgar.
09:51Oh my god, this is so impossible.
09:52Because my model is so skinny.
09:55But you're going to look good together.
09:56My male model is completely excited, me not so much.
10:00I'm standing there, I'm like, oh god.
10:03The price is gone.
10:04You know, I can basically pack up and go.
10:09Coming up on Project Runway All Stars.
10:12Did you just say there wasn't much ballroom?
10:14Oh my goodness.
10:16Oh my gosh.
10:17I'm behind schedule.
10:18I'm freaking out.
10:19Do you have more leather?
10:20No.
10:21I'm going to go.
10:22I'm going to go.
10:23I'm going to go.
10:24I'm going to go.
10:24I'm going to go.
10:26I'm going to go.
10:27I'm going to go.
10:28I'm going to go.
10:28I'm going to go.
10:29I'm going to go.
10:30Hi, girls.
10:30Hi.
10:31Did you see the boys?
10:32I love your hair.
10:33I created like an androgynous look for you.
10:36We're doing an androgyny challenge.
10:38So our looks need to be sexless.
10:40So it could be worn by a man or a woman.
10:42It could have to be avant-garde too.
10:44And we also have to make it something you haven't seen before.
10:46It's a new idea.
10:47But there is a twist.
10:49We have to make two looks, a female model and a male model,
10:52avant-garde and androgyny.
10:55This is definitely All Stars.
10:57You like the guy that we have?
10:59Yeah, he looks like you.
11:00They match.
11:01Everybody is filling out all the stars.
11:05I don't think a lot of people have embraced the androgyny
11:08aspect of the challenge.
11:09I see a lot of women's clothing that's avant-garde.
11:14But the androgyny aspect, for me,
11:16is the more important portion of the challenge.
11:19Got everything?
11:21Yes.
11:24What a twist.
11:26Mm-hmm.
11:27I knew something was up when we hadn't seen Joanna for so long.
11:34So I have this really gorgeous metallic, sheer mesh
11:37that I'm making a tank top out of,
11:39which I also feel is avant-garde and sexy.
11:41So that pop of yellow, it's going to take it
11:43to a very modern, retro level.
11:46Kane, avant-garde does not mean tacking.
11:48This is not a circus challenge.
11:50Let's start packing up.
11:50We've got one more minute.
11:51Let's get back to the night hotel.
11:53All right.
11:54I'm ready.
11:54Let's do this.
11:55Let's go.
11:55Let's go.
11:56Let's go.
11:56Time for bed.
12:06All right.
12:07We've got 30 minutes.
12:08Everyone, hurry, hurry.
12:10I'm so ready.
12:11We have another day and an additional $150 to buy fabric
12:15for the men's look.
12:16But I'm already screwed because there was only one yard
12:19of that fabric when I went in there before.
12:22That's the best match.
12:23I'm not going to match it any closer than that.
12:25Thank you so much.
12:26You're welcome.
12:27A yard and a half would be good.
12:28Same, same, same.
12:30Leather.
12:31Maybe I would take this out.
12:33OK.
12:34That's it.
12:36I like the teamwork.
12:37Well, he's my very good friend.
12:39All right.
12:40Time's up.
12:49I need to clean it up.
12:50Oh, we've got men.
12:51Oh, mine's huge.
12:53Oh, my God.
12:54I am changing my female look because now he's getting her pants,
12:58so I need to find something else for her bottom.
13:01Two looks, two days, six pieces.
13:05It's too much.
13:07I have decided to take my original evening wear look
13:11that I was going to put on my woman,
13:13and I'm actually putting it on the male.
13:14Put it on.
13:15I want to see.
13:16Looks good.
13:17We'll make Josh put it on.
13:18Yes, Josh.
13:19Oh, I'll totally wear that.
13:22With some jeans?
13:23Yes.
13:24Even shorts would be cool.
13:25You can just wear it down the runway.
13:28Well, Josh loves it.
13:29He's very androgynous in himself.
13:31He likes feminine qualities,
13:33so I feel better that he would actually wear it.
13:36I wore this in today.
13:37I don't know what you're talking about.
13:38Where's your garment?
13:40Okay, I'm placing an order.
13:44I feel like this table is not enough.
13:47What I'm working on is very ambitious.
13:50They really want us to step up
13:52because we are all stars,
13:54and we need to do something amazing.
13:56But I'm worried about,
13:58do I'm doing really good,
13:59or I'm missing the mark?
14:01My man, if I was ever dressing one, would be.
14:03Classic suit, Italian shoes, great.
14:06Ready to go.
14:08Which clearly is not too androgynous.
14:11I can't push myself to do anything that I don't feel,
14:15but I want to make sure that it's enough for this competition,
14:17because I want to win this challenge,
14:19and I think we're down to really good designers at this point.
14:26Hello, designers.
14:28Hello.
14:29I know the judges weren't best pleased last week.
14:33Overall, I think it's a bit drab.
14:35There's too much to think about.
14:36I'd like you to take a bit of a risk next time.
14:39This is all stars.
14:40We really need to see what you can deliver.
14:43Hi, Joanna.
14:44Hi, Uli.
14:45How are you?
14:46I'm good.
14:48I am thinking this is not your favorite challenge,
14:51because I tend to think of you as long, heavenly dresses.
14:54Yeah.
14:55So I want to do, for the woman, the strong shoulder,
14:58and then this is kind of the idea of a men's shirt,
15:01but just leaving basically the tail out.
15:04The detail in this is absolutely fantastic.
15:06These safety pins, absolutely gorgeous.
15:09I don't really rely on trims that much.
15:11I think sometimes they're great additions,
15:13but to me, you know, great clothing comes from great tailoring.
15:17These are the male pants.
15:18My model almost got in there.
15:20There was not much ballroom.
15:21He's very skinny.
15:22Did you just say there wasn't much ballroom?
15:23Ballroom, like, there was not much ballroom.
15:24Right, I thought you said that.
15:25I never heard that expression before,
15:26but I quite like it.
15:27All right, Uli, good luck.
15:29Anthony Ryan.
15:30Hey, Miss Joanna.
15:31Talk to me about what you're doing.
15:32I like this fabric.
15:33With androgynous, you know,
15:34a lot of people would go for pants first.
15:35So just strategy-wise, I said,
15:36okay, I want to do a gown.
15:37Right.
15:38When the twist came about and the males come in,
15:39I was like, okay, well, he can wear it.
15:40And are you going to put anything underneath this?
15:42Oh, okay.
15:43I'm going to do a pant with it.
15:44Right.
15:45I kind of wanted to get your opinion.
15:46I really like the yellow.
15:47I am a big one for color.
15:49The only thing that I'm going to do is,
15:50I'm going to put anything underneath this.
15:51Oh, okay.
15:52I'm going to do a pant with it.
15:53Right.
15:54Because you've got the stripes.
15:55Are you going to reflect the yellow in the woman?
15:56Correct.
15:57Right.
15:58I really, really want you to push yourself.
15:59Don't be safe.
16:00I won't.
16:01I'm seeing a bit of eyes wide shut going on here.
16:02Yeah.
16:03Like it could be this sort of uniform
16:04for a rather strange religious sect.
16:06I think Althea's coats look like they're from Star Wars.
16:09Chewbacca called, and he wants his coats back.
16:11Oh, yeah.
16:12Oh, yeah.
16:13Oh, yeah.
16:14Oh, yeah.
16:15Oh, yeah.
16:16Oh, yeah.
16:17Oh, yeah.
16:18Oh, yeah.
16:19Oh, yeah.
16:20Oh, yeah.
16:21Oh, yeah.
16:22Oh, yeah.
16:23And he wants his coats back.
16:25What I wanted to do was actually do a yoke on the organza shirt
16:28and trim the fur down to make it look like a pony.
16:31Whew.
16:32That does sound avant-garde.
16:34Ivy, I need some explanation.
16:37Something's going over this, so don't worry.
16:39Oh, okay.
16:40I thought for one terrifying moment he was going to walk out like this.
16:43No.
16:44Okay, and I was not going to be responsible for whatever happened to Georgina and Isaac.
16:47No, no.
16:48Emilio, I can't tell if this is the man or the woman.
16:50Well, if you can't tell, that's good.
16:52That is good.
16:53All right, so this is the woman, isn't it?
16:54Because I'm thinking the man's not going to do this.
16:56Yes.
16:57Right.
16:58But I'm doing exactly the same vest and pant for both the man and the woman.
17:03This looks spectacularly well put together, I have to say.
17:06And this is very dramatic.
17:07And we're not just going for the obvious.
17:09The judge is like that, I think, because they're looking for a twist.
17:11I think so.
17:12They've already given you a twist.
17:13You want to give them a twist.
17:14Yes.
17:15All right, good luck, Emilio.
17:16Well, thank you.
17:17Casanova.
17:18Hi.
17:19Tell me, what man is going to be wearing gold leather?
17:22In the guy, I keep the same fabric.
17:26But this is more like a motorcycle detail.
17:28It's a biker pants.
17:29Right.
17:30This is sort of like a scorpion cum gladiator design.
17:33Uh, I was not thinking gladiator.
17:36You could literally take Casanovas, put it on the set of gladiator, and you never know
17:40the difference.
17:41Androgynous, to me, leans more to the feminine side.
17:45The man, I wanted to do a chiffon top that had nothing else under it because I think it's
17:50a very feminine thing to wear.
17:52Leaving it sleeveless and making it something that a girl would pick up for herself as well.
17:57Really pay attention to the detail.
18:00These two aren't quite parallel.
18:02I get what you're saying, like having them be level.
18:04Right, because that's exactly the kind of detail that Georgina Chapman will swoop in on,
18:08like a crow on a carcass.
18:11One of the fun things that I'm going to do to make it even a little bit more androgynous
18:16is I'm making these leather flowers.
18:19If people want costumes and funny clothes, then maybe Cain's on the right track.
18:23He's got a clown collar, and then he's going to put a leather little clown flower that could
18:27probably squirt some water out of it or something.
18:29And I don't think they're looking for that.
18:31What's going on here?
18:32It's a smiley face.
18:33Oh, my goodness.
18:34Well, it's either going to be hideous or possibly fabulous.
18:38You can't say that to me two weeks in a row.
18:40All right, good luck, Cain.
18:41Thanks so much.
18:42Designers, I want to remind you this is an avant-garde challenge.
18:47Push yourselves, and just when you think you can't go any further, go further.
18:53Good luck.
18:59It's winking at you.
19:00It's winking!
19:01Do you love it, Laura?
19:02Even though we should be taking risks because this is all stars,
19:05maybe Joanna's right.
19:06Maybe I shouldn't go with the smiley face.
19:09No more smiley face.
19:10I'm sorry.
19:12Great job, Kasta.
19:14Wow.
19:15Casanova.
19:16Your ballroom looks very limited.
19:18Okay?
19:19I see.
19:21The fact that you made them so freaking fast, I hate you, really.
19:26Hi, girls.
19:29Awesome.
19:30Oh, we have 15 minutes.
19:31Okay, let's get it done.
19:34I'm just going to make this a little tighter.
19:37This is so beautiful.
19:39This color is so pretty.
19:40Maybe just a hand in this pocket, and then I don't know where we're going.
19:43Where would that one go?
19:44Do you like it?
19:45Yeah, I love it.
19:48Oh, my gosh.
19:51Do you have more leather?
19:52No.
19:53I mean, the concept is fabulous, but that's a pig.
19:56I'm flattering.
19:57Like, even like this.
19:58I don't like this.
19:59The pants are hideous.
20:01I don't like it.
20:02I'm behind schedule.
20:03I'm freaking out.
20:04Maybe I have to do something else.
20:08Casanova's really frustrated, and I can feel his panic right now.
20:12Do you care what is the problem?
20:14Your pattern's wrong.
20:15I know.
20:16The pattern's wrong.
20:17But, you know, he's my friend before he's anything else, and I'm happy to help my friend when they're in a tough bind.
20:22You can fix this.
20:24Oh.
20:25This is what I need to hear.
20:27It's easy.
20:28Bye, love.
20:30The guys are coming right away?
20:33No?
20:34I hope not.
20:35I hope not.
20:39Hi, guys.
20:40Hi, guys.
20:41Hi.
20:42Leave the shoes on.
20:43Take the shirt off.
20:46Oh, my God.
20:47This is perfection.
20:48How fun is this?
20:50Yes.
20:57Let's try on these crazy shoes.
20:59Wow.
21:00That takes it to a real androgynous level.
21:03Do you love it, Josh?
21:04I love more.
21:07Oh, sure.
21:09This is too much.
21:11Believe me, I know.
21:12Great.
21:13Awesome.
21:15Take care.
21:16Have fun.
21:17See you tomorrow.
21:18See you tomorrow.
21:19Thanks so much.
21:20Can't wait.
21:21It's gonna be a crazy show.
21:2215 minutes, everyone.
21:27Time for me is always an issue.
21:29I think I have so much time when we start a challenge,
21:32and then it's 9 o'clock, and I have half of our outfits ready.
21:35Maybe I just need that pressure.
21:37That's when I come up with some really good stuff,
21:40because I have to.
21:41All right, guys.
21:42That's time.
21:43Night-night.
21:44Let's go.
21:47Coming up on Project Runway All-Stars.
21:52In two hours, I have to become a miracle worker.
21:56I'm in trouble.
21:58Androgyny, not one bit.
22:01It's runway day for the androgyny avant-garde challenge, and I'm trying not to freak out, but I have a ton of work to do.
22:20So in two hours, I basically have to become Helen Keller and miracle worker.
22:27How's your pieces going?
22:29Terrible.
22:30Oh, I bet they're not going terrible.
22:31Maybe until here.
22:32Okay, perfect.
22:33That's what I thought, too.
22:35Once again, I see Ivy helping Casanova, and I think, as an all-star, we should all be doing our own garments.
22:39Casanova and Ivy are attached to the hip.
22:42Just cut that umbilical cord, because at some point, it's going to have to happen.
22:47You can't both win.
22:48It's really going to look.
22:55Your outfit's on the stimulus dress.
22:58Hers is good.
22:59Yours is the one that's just thinking out.
23:01For my androgynous look, I really want them to look like they've been wracked.
23:15In the Laura Mercier makeup room, I want them to look like worn-out rock stars.
23:20Maybe like a white eyebrow that's maybe even cut out of paper.
23:25Little David Bowie meets Adam Lambert.
23:27Meets origami.
23:29One really clean, bright red line.
23:32The inspiration for my makeup is a kabuki mask.
23:36This hair, I almost want to do like a mohawk, a little bit like a bird.
23:40My inspiration for this is almost like a tribal gone rock star, because that always goes androgynous for me.
23:49I'd like if we can really do a defined part on her.
23:53Both of them just like really stick back with a low bun.
23:56You guys are doing yourself here.
23:59All right guys, ten more minutes till we go to the runway.
24:02I decide to grab a Nine West handbag and make a dust cover out of the fur for the male's clutch.
24:17Fabulous bag.
24:23I'm feeling like I'm totally safe, because we've got Ivy's look, which is awful, Laura Kathleen, and Althea's.
24:31I love her.
24:32Yeah, her stuff's amazing.
24:33Oh my God, Casanova.
24:36The craftsmanship, amazing.
24:38Androgyny, not one bit.
24:42I see a lot of people doing the same thing that they've done in their seasons.
24:47And I think this competition is made for someone that has evolved as a designer.
24:52And I think my hard work is about to pay off.
24:55All right guys, time's up. Let's head to runway.
25:03Coming up on Project Runway All Stars.
25:05You have no courtesy for other people.
25:07I mean, everything is wrong.
25:09I have to cool off after that one.
25:11Atrocious, okay?
25:20Hello designers.
25:21Hello.
25:22Hi.
25:23Your challenge was to create an androgynous look for your female model.
25:27You then had to create another androgynous look.
25:31This time for a male model.
25:33Not easy.
25:34Tonight, for the first time ever, male and female models will walk the All Stars runway.
25:40And the judges will compare your looks.
25:42Let's meet them.
25:43First, designer and co-founder of Marquesa, the beautiful Georgina Chapman.
25:48Hi designers.
25:51And one of the most famous names in fashion, designer Isaac Mizrahi.
25:55Hi designers.
25:56Our first guest is one of the most exciting new names in fashion.
26:02First Lady Michelle Obama wears his designs for everything.
26:05From the President's inaugural ball to meeting the Queen of England.
26:09We are thrilled to welcome designer Jason Wu.
26:12Hello.
26:15Our next judge is known for his quality, form, and sexy fit.
26:20His clients include Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman.
26:24Please welcome designer Robert Rodriguez.
26:27Hi designers.
26:30The judges are looking to see how both of your designs complement each other.
26:34So let's do it.
26:35Have a great show.
26:37All I can truly think is pure innovation.
26:51I'm very happy with the way my looks complement each other.
26:55I just think it's extremely impactful.
26:57And I think that these looks will definitely secure that I'll be in the top three.
27:07My models look so fantastic.
27:13I think they look stunning.
27:15The makeup looks great.
27:16I love it.
27:17I'm in love with it.
27:31I'm really excited about my coat.
27:32I don't see anything else like it.
27:34And I definitely think it's avant-garde.
27:37I think it's something that's really new and kind of crazy.
27:40It definitely is dramatic in that way.
27:48It's really well made and it fits, but I just don't know if it reads androgynous.
27:52Or even reads my aesthetic.
27:54So I hope that they can see that I am a good designer even though this wasn't my challenge.
28:00You look so bad.
28:02You look so bad.
28:06That was so cool.
28:10My models look amazing.
28:12I nailed the look.
28:13I have two androgynous looks that work on a man and a woman.
28:19And they're strong.
28:20I'm actually pretty pumped about my two looks.
28:30The leggings and the jacket fit perfectly.
28:32It's definitely androgynous and a lot of drama.
28:35I'm thinking triple-A.
28:37Androgynous, avant-garde, and awesome.
28:44My model looks amazing.
28:46Well made, everything beautiful.
28:49The design looks really, really good.
28:52The coat out looks amazing, but doesn't look like androgynous at all.
28:55I feel like my two looks on the runway really executed the challenge.
29:10My models look modern and sophisticated and ethereal.
29:22I really love the men's look.
29:24It came together well.
29:25The women's look could probably use a little bit more volume, but overall mine really was different.
29:31It's a nice breath of fresh air.
29:42If I call your name, please step forward.
29:45Althea.
29:47Ivy.
29:49Joshua.
29:53You're all safe.
29:54You may leave the runway.
29:56That's fabulous that we're safe, but truly a design force to be reckoned with.
30:03I don't necessarily think that our ego should get in the way.
30:06Why did you drag an ego?
30:07If you want to talk about egotistical, we've seen the same basic box sloper jacket from you.
30:13Well, apparently the judges seem to like it, so I'm happy with that.
30:16And that's fine.
30:17That's totally fine.
30:18But they'll notice soon enough.
30:19Sure.
30:20I think Josh is projecting onto Ivy because he's frustrated.
30:24I mean, I know how he feels.
30:25It is frustrating to be constantly in the middle.
30:28You have no, like, courtesy for other people's, like, opinions or feelings.
30:32I don't think that any of us should get our eagles involved.
30:35How can that not be a part of this process?
30:37It's a competition.
30:38Are you here to compete?
30:39I'm just here to show my best work.
30:40Well, I think you should have already left the competition.
30:44Three of you have high scores and three of you have low scores.
30:48We're going to bring out your models one designer at a time.
30:54Uli, tell us about your looks.
30:56I think androgyny, it's different from culture to culture.
30:59And mine is more tribal inspired.
31:02Are those safety pins down the front for sure?
31:04Yeah.
31:05It's really good.
31:06I love it.
31:07I love this sort of a faint apocalyptic pink moment going on in that brocade.
31:11It's sick in a good way.
31:12I would have been curious to see the girl with the matching pant.
31:15I mean, I thought that could have been really wonderful.
31:17I love the texture.
31:18It's very cool.
31:19It's very downtown.
31:20I would actually wear those pants.
31:21What I also really like about these outfits is that they are interchangeable.
31:25I would start mixing it up.
31:27In fact, I really like his top.
31:28Underneath, is that a t-shirt or a shirt?
31:30It's basically, um, you can take it off.
31:32Wow.
31:33See, that's just a fabulous piece.
31:35I'm going to throw a curveball there because I don't like that legging.
31:38Thank you, models.
31:43Laura Kathleen, you're next.
31:44This challenge definitely pushed me as a very feminine designer.
31:48So, really, this is just a mix of the elements of, um, women's wear and men's wear that I really enjoy.
31:54This was a hard challenge for you.
31:56Yeah.
31:57Right?
31:58Knowing who you are.
31:59Feminine designer.
32:00My problem with it is the textiles look inexpensive.
32:03I can see a little bit of a struggle with this.
32:07It was too many ideas.
32:08I think an edit would have been nice.
32:09I don't like the gold buttons.
32:11I don't like the cutouts.
32:13There's just so much going on here.
32:15I just think it was a little bit over the top for me.
32:18Perhaps it would have been wise for you to play on your more feminine aspects of design with your male model.
32:24Because I think you've missed a trick there.
32:27Thank you, Laura Kathleen.
32:28And thank you, models.
32:32Emilio.
32:33When we got the challenge, I knew I wanted to use menswear fabric.
32:37And then when we got the twist, I decided to keep the same fabrics and just use the reverse side.
32:43I feel like there's a lot of attention to detail here.
32:46The idea of using these semicircles to create structure, I would just be a little careful in putting it on a woman's side.
32:53Because she's losing all waste there.
32:55I couldn't tell who was the man and who was the woman.
32:57Cool.
32:58Which is really what it's all about.
33:00This is what I think androgyny looks like.
33:02And I thought it was really sort of fabulous.
33:05I can't stop looking at the male model, which is so painfully gorgeous.
33:09Can we get you guys to turn?
33:11I love the lines.
33:12I think there's a richness to this.
33:14I wonder, is it too heavily reliant on a hat?
33:17Thank you, models.
33:19I have to cool off after that one.
33:23So, Cain, how did you interpret the androgyny challenge?
33:27I love the houndstooth jacket idea and mixing with the leather.
33:30I wanted to show a little bit more skin on him because typically I think women show a little bit more skin.
33:34What was the thought of picking that particular color to work with the leggings?
33:39I've done a lot of black this season so far, and I just wanted to add a little bit more color.
33:43It just brings it to a level that's like very, very, very inexpensive to me.
33:48I would almost rather see her bear underneath, which would have been quite sexy.
33:53You really know how to cut a piece.
33:56I just so encourage you to edit yourself.
33:59Thank you, Cain.
34:00Thank you, models.
34:01Casanova.
34:02My idea to add masculinity in the female body was thinking about a warrior.
34:10So that's when I begin doing kind of armor.
34:13I do like what you've done.
34:15I'm just a little torn because I don't feel they're androgynous.
34:19Like somehow she's right.
34:21He looks like her kind of accessory.
34:24I like her top.
34:25I'm not so crazy about what's going on around the knee of her pants.
34:29And then his top just kind of loses me.
34:32I don't think it's androgynous, and I don't think it's avant-garde.
34:35But, you know, I think they're nice outfits.
34:37I just, I'm not sure if it's exactly the challenge.
34:40Thank you, models.
34:44Anthony Ryan.
34:45So to me, androgynous really almost has a very quiet feel to it.
34:49Originally, I'd wanted to do more of an evening look.
34:52I thought that would almost be unexpected.
34:54What is that on the hands?
34:55It's tape.
34:56Anthony Ryan.
34:57You're so good every week.
34:59I love the textures of the fabrics.
35:02They look so fresh and new to me.
35:04The overall look is really wearable.
35:06I can see like her walking down the street wearing it and him as well.
35:09I'm really thrilled to see you do something other than a dress.
35:13You know, the things look well-made and expensive.
35:14Thank you so much.
35:16Designers, we have a lot to discuss.
35:19So you can leave the runway and we'll see you later.
35:27Let's start with our high scores first.
35:29In particular, Emilio.
35:30I love the use of his fabric.
35:32The way that he just turned one fabric around.
35:36It was almost like they were wearing the same thing, only just slightly different.
35:40And it wasn't different because she was a girl and he was a boy.
35:43I felt like they were music video ready.
35:45I thought the guy was sort of fabulous, the male model.
35:48It felt right.
35:49His use of fabric and color was really amazing.
35:51There were a few points here that I wasn't entirely happy with.
35:55But on the whole, I think he nailed androgyny perfectly.
36:01When I look at something like what Uli had done, I thought she really pushed it.
36:05She really stepped up, right?
36:06She pushed it.
36:07I loved what she did.
36:08They're good pieces that is a little more than what meets the eye, which I think is the tellings of a pretty good designer.
36:13I love when a designer can create something and when you remove the jacket, it's still great or even better.
36:19I would wear that top.
36:20I would wear that jacket.
36:21I would wear his little Bolero.
36:23It was brilliant.
36:24It was a sophisticated take on androgyny.
36:28Anthony Ryan, I thought it was awfully good the way he created these new textures and how weirdly new that print looked.
36:35He has a taste level that we've come to expect.
36:38I thought it was well made.
36:39Making something look more expensive like the print is a skill.
36:42He worked it.
36:43He worked it.
36:46Let's talk about Laura Kathleen.
36:47I just didn't get that at all.
36:49I thought it was like way over the top.
36:50I mean, they were complimentary of each other, but I wouldn't say it was a good complimentary.
36:55They looked poor to me.
36:56They looked very poor.
36:57There were some good ideas, but there were too many ideas.
36:59The pockets are really the worst part on that jacket.
37:01But it's the holes all down the side of the trousers.
37:03It's the buttons with the silver.
37:06It's the cutouts in that chiffon that are collapsing on the side of the trousers.
37:10I mean, everything was wrong.
37:14Kane, I feel like he had an opportunity to make something fabulous and he just kind of mucked it up.
37:20The weird coppery color juxtaposed with that jacket was atrocious, okay?
37:26I haven't said that yet on this show.
37:28That was atrocious.
37:29I like the houndstooth.
37:30I just don't like the combination of it all.
37:33What fascinated me about Kane is his male look was so much better.
37:37His vision when it comes to a woman, I don't know, it goes all askew.
37:41Yeah.
37:42This guy can really sew, which is why I'm so angry at him.
37:45Good point.
37:46He should have the best.
37:47I mean, my least favorite was Casanova's.
37:50I thought they looked like costumes.
37:52I do love scorpions, but I just didn't get the whole motif just everywhere.
37:57I love that he started with this idea of armor.
37:59I do too.
38:00You know, that's a good idea.
38:01I just don't think there's anything unspeakably bad about these.
38:05I think he misinterpreted the idea of avant-garde.
38:10So we have our decision then.
38:11Yes.
38:12Yes.
38:13So let's bring them back out.
38:22Designers, tonight one of you will be named this week's winner,
38:26and one of you will be going home.
38:31Anthony Ryan, you are safe.
38:33You can leave the runway.
38:35Thank you so much.
38:36Uli, Emilio, one of you is the winner of this challenge.
38:41And that designer is...
38:44It's you, Emilio.
38:45Thank you very much.
38:46Congratulations.
38:47Thank you so much.
38:49You can leave the runway.
38:51Thank you so much.
38:52Uli, Emilio, one of you is the winner of this challenge.
38:59And that designer is...
39:05It's you, Emilio.
39:06Good.
39:07Thank you very much.
39:08Congratulations.
39:09Thank you so much.
39:11You can leave the runway.
39:12Thank you very much.
39:13Winning this challenge makes me happy.
39:15It validates all the hard work that I put into these two looks
39:20in the short amount of time.
39:22Great work from you, Uli.
39:24Thank you so much.
39:25You may leave the runway.
39:27Thanks.
39:28Good job.
39:30We're all safe.

39:32Woo!
39:33We're all safe.
39:34Yay!
39:35Yay!
39:36Yay!
39:37Congratulations.
39:38Thank you very much.
39:39Thank you very much.
39:42Casanova, you are safe.
39:45You may leave the runway.
39:55Okay.
39:56The way you cut your pieces is masterful.
40:00But you need to edit, edit, edit.
40:05Laura Kathleen, we feel that you've lost sight of what you're doing.
40:10You really need to learn to play to your strengths.
40:15You're in.
40:16Which means, Cain, I'm sorry to say that you're out.
40:29Laura Kathleen, you can leave the runway.
40:37Cain, thank you so much for being a part of All Stars.
40:40Thank you, guys, for inspiring me.
40:42We wish you all the best.
40:45I definitely didn't expect to go home in Challenge 5.
40:48I had no idea how hard this competition would be coming back.
40:51And I've had an amazing time.
40:53It's been really great just kind of focusing on my design and showing who I am as a designer.
41:00Hi.
41:03I'm in.
41:07This experience has been so inspiring.
41:10And as cool as it is to be critiqued by the judges, I'm more proud that I was here with you guys.
41:15So, thank you.
41:17Hey.
41:19Oh, boy.
41:20I love everything that I've made here.
41:21So, as long as I can go home and be proud of my talent and what I've done, that's what I'm taking with me.
41:27Next, on Project Runway All Stars.
41:28Welcome to the High Line.
41:29All Stars is going green.
41:30Oh, Lord.
41:31Diane von Furstenberg is a judge.
41:32She's my idol.
41:33Hopefully, you're not in the bottom.
41:34My dress is a terrible mess.
41:35I'm embarrassed.
41:36It's not the dress I envisioned.
41:37Please welcome the iconic Diane von Furstenberg.
41:40This is the worst that fabric has ever looked.
41:41This feels so heavy.
41:42It's something I shouldn't like, but I like it.
41:43It's called Forbidden Fruit.
