00:00First of all, I've got to ask you about the cafe.
00:01Yeah, at the end of August, the IAGS, the International Association of Genocide Scholars,
00:09who studied thoroughly the word genocide, the concept genocide,
00:13called what is going on in Gaza today a genocide.
00:17And that's why we want to ask for a commercial and diplomatic blockage
00:23and sanctions on Israel to stop this genocide, free Palestine.
00:27Yeah, and you know, that was a long time coming.
00:30I think there was a lot of debate over many months, and people were so reluctant to say it.
00:34How frustrating was that for you, to wait for them to finally confirm something
00:38that a lot of people had already known?
00:39Yeah, and also we are getting together.
00:42This Film Workers for Palestine is a great group that is getting more and more people attached.
00:53It's also important to clarify to Parliament,
00:55We do not target individuals by their identity.
01:01That's absolutely wrong.
01:02Don't send that message.
01:03That is a wrong thing.
01:05What we target are those complicit film companies and institutions
01:10that are involved in whitewashing or justifying the genocide of Israel in Gaza,
01:15and its apartheid regime.
01:19And we stand with those who fight and stand in solidarity with the oppressed.
01:24And that was an important distinction.
01:26You know, I wrote that story, and Film Workers for Palestine reached out to me and said,
01:30Can you please update this?
01:32Because people are not understanding what the original goal was,
01:36which was just institution.
01:38Absolutely.
01:38Institutions and companies.
01:40And if you are not working in a movie, you have to have a very thorough check-out of who is behind that
01:48and to see what is their relationship with the genocide.
01:51And then you'll take your decisions.
01:54I know my decisions.
01:55I will never work with some company now that are not condemning the genocide in Gaza.
02:01Are you having conversations with Elise and your reps?
02:05Of course.
02:05I know.
02:06I know what I'm doing.
02:08I know what I can bring.
02:09It's okay.
02:10Me not getting jobs is absolutely relevant compared to what is going on there.
02:18It's that easy.
02:20I mean, what an amazing statement you're making that a lot of people have been afraid to make.
02:24Their silence because they're afraid is their support to the genocide.
02:30And then let's talk about you and this nomination, by the way, which was so deserved.
02:34And it's so hard to pivot to something from real life.
02:38Thank you very much for your microphone and your time and your attention and your camera
02:42to give me the platform to speak about what matters.
02:45I appreciate that because I was just in Venice with a film that I saw a lot of those in the audience
02:51and I've been following them getting really confused.
02:52Right, right, right, right, right.
02:53How challenging it is at this time for people to find out who's actually back in their movies
02:58and how do you move forward in this moment in time.
03:01And I don't think a lot of people have wrapped up on how to do that.
03:03And I'm so happy that the sound of Hadid made it into the Grand Jury Prize
03:10because it's going to bring attention to it.
03:13And there's another great movie, Palestinian movie, called All That Is Left Of You
03:18that you will hear about in Toronto.
03:20And it's a great movie and it's about time to bring those stories and to give them screen time
03:26for people to understand what we're talking about.
03:29This thing didn't start on October 7th.
03:33This thing started in 1948.
03:35Wade, one last thing, just can we end on you because the brilliant work also has to be mentioned with Monsters.
03:46So tell me, you know, how do you move on from playing a character like that and what do you want to do next?
03:53You know what?
03:54I think it's easy.
03:55I'm older.
03:56I'm 56, I guess.
03:57And I don't care about bringing any shit at home.
04:02I do my job.
04:04I really put my effort and time and concentration on making it nice for everyone, as nice as possible.
04:13In this case, those two kids, to make them understand that this is fiction.
04:17And then when we say, Kat, let's go home and let's give a hug and we forget about it.
04:23Do you think those guys should get out of jail now?
04:25You know, I don't know.
04:26It's hard for me to tell.
04:28It's hard for me to tell.
04:29I wish I could have one clear answer.
04:32And that's the whole point of the show.
04:34Can you take a clear answer?
04:36I don't know.
04:36I don't know.
04:37I don't know.
04:37I don't know.
04:37I don't know.
