00:00I imagine you've been having a lot of these moments where you get to meet, you know, other actors you may not have seen.
00:04All night, I'm completely starstruck. I feel like I'm standing behind the lines waiting for an autograph.
00:09Everybody I see.
00:09Really?
00:10Who's the most exciting person or a person you really were looking for to be?
00:12Anybody I've seen on TV playing one line anywhere, I go, oh my God, look who it is. It's that person.
00:16Really?
00:16I imagine you've been getting that a lot recently since the sex has gone crazy.
00:21I always feel like an imposter. Always feel like a, you know, I don't feel like I belong anywhere.
00:25Witness the fact I've got a paperclip for my cufflink, you know.
00:28Is that true? Let's see.
00:31Oh, wow.
00:31I'm trying to fix it now, you know.
00:33Yeah, no, I don't feel like I belong anywhere.
00:34I love my job, which is acting in things.
00:36I'm in the middle of making a film now in Ireland, and this just feels strange, and I will never get used to it, but it may never happen again, so what the hell?
00:43It must feel a little bit like Whiplash to be doing a movie and having to come here amid all this.
00:48This is performance. This isn't who I am or what I do for a living, and, you know, the success of the show all over the world has nothing to do with me.
00:56I'm just on set doing the thing I've done for 40 years now,
00:58which is pretending to be other people and trying to explore the human condition. That's my job.
01:02Yeah.
01:02And what do you hear about these reports that it's going to France next, White Lotus is going to France next?
01:07Well, that's because I know where it's going and what's happening, because I know all the people involved, but I'm not sure that I'm meant to be the conduit of information to the world.
01:14Actually, you know what? We are. They told me. They called me and said we should do it together.
01:17And then we check my phone and see what Mike says.
01:19But listen, what do you think it is about him that has created the magic of Mike White? How do you define him?
01:24It's simple. He writes human beings, and we're in a world where people are trying to turn us against each other and separate us and tell you who you should hate.
01:32You should hate immigrants. You should hate Mexicans. You should hate Jewish people. You should hate trans people.
01:36You should hate white, working-class men and stuff.
01:39Mike doesn't judge anyone. His characters don't judge. They're all human.
01:41They all reveal themselves layer by layer, and it provides an opportunity for all of us to be reminded how much more we have in common than separates us.
