00:00Sonic Extreme Book.
00:02It starts by revealing that Sonic has a mountain bike he's sitting on,
00:06atop the tallest mountain on the planet,
00:09while Roto stood at the bottom with a stopwatch and checkered flag.
00:13While it's never been established before that he rides mountain bikes,
00:17it makes sense that a daredevil who's already athletic would,
00:21and it makes him look cool on top of being new.
00:24While this doesn't seem to be moving the plot along,
00:27it's still a great start.
00:29The story says Sonic had become hooked on extreme sports,
00:34which is spelled EXTREME.
00:36He had ridden down this mountain many times,
00:39and only keeps doing this to try to set a new record.
00:42I wonder how he got the spike.
00:45Why do I have to figure that out myself when none of these heroes have jobs?
00:49Roto would have been wasting his time making this thing instead of something good for the hero cause.
00:55So it'd be nicer to assume that Sally provides her friends with paychecks from a royal treasury because she's the princess,
01:01and how else do they afford groceries?
01:04This would apply to Archie and Sadie M too.
01:07So Roto wasn't being expected to do free labor when he had to help rebuild a city in Archie.
01:13The story bores me describing the mountain ride in detail when it doesn't have to after it already told me what Sonic was intending to do.
01:21A whole page was wasted on this.
01:25Oh, he was even wearing a helmet that was made to fit one of his spines.
01:30That's a nice attention to detail.
01:32Roto says congratulations panel to Sonic giving him the predictable news.
01:37Sally calls out for Sonic weakly while running towards him.
01:41Sonic looks lame by trying to insist on being called Sonic extreme.
01:46Roto has to tell him that Sally's in trouble.
01:49He doesn't have to be made stupid.
01:52That's not cool.
01:53The story bores me by unnecessarily reiterating where they live and what they tend to do when the story would only tell you that anyways if it just progressed.
02:03It's like it goes into an intro for Sadie M every book like it doesn't even know its audience.
02:10Sonic carries Sally to the mountain base as she says that she and Bunny were out on patrol.
02:15He must have gone here before she left.
02:18Again, why do they bother going on patrol?
02:21The story wastes time boringly recapping what Bunny is for no reason.
02:27Sally says she and Bunny were carrying the new robot paralyzing weapon.
02:32Another OP gadget that would have destroyed the tension of Sadie M.
02:36It's not explained why one of the robots fired it at Bunny before the weapon could be used against them.
02:42So not to assume they're just cowardly idiots in the story who were too busy gasping and seeing robots to simply press a button.
02:49How about have a robot jump out from a bush behind Bunny and push her in front of the weapon and another one of them press the button?
02:57Sonic asks where Bunny is when it was already an obvious conclusion that Bunny was captured.
03:02Why have her get kidnapped again?
03:05Having Sonic's friends get kidnapped is a lazy and demeaning plot device that doesn't result in a plot that revolves around the heroes doing something to inconvenience the Eggman Empire, which was the whole appeal of the show.
03:18Inside, the heroes are righting a wrong to go back to square one.
03:22This book series has kidnappings happen way too often.
03:26It makes it seem like the heroes are making no progress.
03:29The only progress they made was finding the list in the fortress, otherwise it was nothing but saving Princess Peach.
03:37The story has the blatant padding of showing Sally's point of view when she wakes up in bed while Antoine's keeping a cool cloth on her forehead for no reason.
03:47Why would anyone want to see this instead of the story sticking to Sonic?
03:52Antoine says they'll go save Bunny after she regains her strength.
03:57Why?
03:58She literally never does anything in Robotopolis.
04:02Logically, Eggman would roboticize Bunny as soon as possible, and they should assume this and not irresponsibly wait.
04:10Why does Sally ask how she got back here when she knows Sonic is fast?
04:15She thanks him with a warm smile.
04:18Why does the narration trash Sonic as impulsive and say that his love of speed and action, part of his entire appeal,
04:26frustrated her sometimes for no reason?
04:29This is the real problem with Sally.
04:32So what if she's not like Sonic? It was completely unnecessary to have her not like the main character for who he is.
04:38The narration says she knows that his talent and energy give a boost to her cause.
04:44So do the rest of her friends, we don't need to be told this.
04:48It's just good because it's nice by Sally's standards.
04:52Antoine thanks Sonic, and it unnecessarily reminds us he doesn't care for his style for no reason.
04:59Sonic boasts that it was no problem at all and calls him old buddy.
05:04Sally says they've got to start planning Bunny's rescue.
05:07Why do they need a plan?
05:09Why doesn't Sonic just run to where she's always taken and get her in seconds?
05:14Roto says he picked up this broadcast of Eggman that was transmitted on every movie in frequency,
05:20which explains why he was able to send it to the heroes without knowing their location.
05:25And somehow, the story doesn't instantly have Eggman's message after this in favor of the characters having worthless dialogue,
05:32like Sonic asking the stupid question of what does he want.
05:35He of course says what we already found out that they already know.
05:39They already were guaranteed to go save her, so why is he wasting his time?
05:45How did Eggman find out that Sonic's become good at extreme sports?
05:49This is straight out of AOSDH.
05:51He wouldn't challenge him to an extreme game competition.
05:55Sonic says that because he'd be guaranteed to win the competition, there's no way he'd play.
06:01But he should have already assumed that the reward is Bunny, who's in a secret location.
06:07Eggman could be lying.
06:09He redundantly calls Sniffly trusted, and says he'll let him bring a scorekeeper of his own to prove he's gonna play fair.
06:16How would that prove that? And why would he care?
06:19Sally doesn't trust him, but Sonic thinks he has no choice.
06:23Why does he care if he's being seen as fair or not?
06:26Sonic will do it anyways for that reason.
06:29Rotor lampshades that they have no reason to believe Robotnik would choose to release Bunny.
06:35And somehow, Sonic thinks he needs to practice what he's already mastered.
06:40He's supposed to be cocky.
06:42He could go to Eggman right now, so why would he make Bunny wait until the next morning?
06:47The story wastes time again, redundantly saying that Sally didn't get much sleep because she agreed with Rotor,
06:53while Sonic did sleep easily because he knew he could beat Eggman.
06:57Sally tells Antoine to go with Sonic as the scorekeeper.
07:01That was the best person to choose, because they'll lose nothing if Eggman captures him.
07:07And logically, the only reason he said he could have a scorekeeper was so he could try to capture him after the bet.
07:12This has to be why she chose Antoine.
07:15I don't know why Antoine bothers trying to argue with her.
07:19Usually all he does is be her lapdog, so this is out of character.
07:23I like that Sonic gives him a punch in the arm, but since he's talking like he's somehow happy he's gonna be with him,
07:29It's annoying that the narration doesn't explain that he's aware that Antoine's not happy about this arrangement, and he's just teasing him.
07:35I hate that Antoine pretends to be okay with it unconvincingly.
07:39What a waste of my time.
07:41It's just the Knuckles and Sonic dynamic before Knuckles.
07:45They bring out the worst in each other.
07:51Sally and Roeder plan on trying to rescue Bunny from the fortress, when there's no reason to believe they won't just get captured anyways.
07:59Why does Sally doubt Sonic would win?
08:01She should explain that Eggman might have a robot prepared who's even better than him at sports.
08:07Because that would be in character of Sadie and Robotnik, because he had Sonic race a robot turtle.
08:15Roeder says he's with Sally as always, and she smiles in appreciation.
08:19It's also nice of her to ask Sonic how he's feeling for no reason and tell him good luck.
08:24He says you too to her, runs off without Antoine instinctively, and then has to go back for him.
08:30People do make mistakes from Force of Habit.
08:33I hate that it says that he headed out at a pace Antoine could keep up with, when logically he would just have Antoine hold on and run to Eggman in seconds.
08:42I hate that after he gets to his destination, it doesn't instantly have the competition start.
08:48Instead it wastes time with worthless narration and Captain Obvious dialogue.
08:53You're right Antoine, I think we've heard enough.
08:56Why did Eggman appreciate Snively inexplicably calling him benevolent?
09:01If he wanted to be seen as benevolent, he would be that way.
09:05Eggman doesn't deserve praise.
09:08In universe, I mean.
09:10This is only a good thing in the meta-sense because he's the main villain.
09:14Eggman won't thank anybody.
09:16And Snively doesn't deserve that because he was dumb enough to work for him when he knew he was a bad boss.
09:22Instead of telling the king his plan to betray him.
09:25Antoine unnecessarily calls Sonic extremely impulsive and reckless.
09:30When has he ever been like that?
09:33He's not so stupid that he gets hurt mountain biking.
09:36So that doesn't count because he does it knowing full well that he won't get hurt.
09:40For good reason.
09:42If he was impulsive, he would have already gone to the fortress and saved Sally the effort.
09:48I wouldn't blame anyone for saying that Sadie M hates Sonic.
09:52Usually he does.
09:54But it's a little reductive to say because Sadie M glorifies his speed.
09:58And has to be the most useful character without any other person with special powers on his team.
10:03They could have easily given all the Sadie M characters powers.
10:07And I forget when it's rude to Sonic because those are small parts of his story overall that don't determine the plot.
10:13If the whole plot was driven by that, then it would annoy me.
10:17At least Sonic's written to be sarcastic with Antoine for insulting him.
10:21Antoine didn't need to say he'll be his scorekeeper.
10:24Because why else would he be here?
10:26Eggman and Snively are seriously going to compete with Sonic themselves.
10:31This is like that episode of AOSCH.
10:35You'd think Eggman would use robots because he's all about machines.
10:39In fact, another episode of that show did do that for a sports tournament.
10:44I could see the two-sided coin flip cliche from a mile away.
10:49Thankfully, it doesn't even matter that Eggman always has to go first.
10:53Eggman does a bungee jump.
10:55I like that it says his huge body fell like a stone.
10:59I get to read about Eggman plunging into the sea repeatedly.
11:03I like this.
11:05Sure, it's missing the point of Sadie M's Eggman by being disrespectful,
11:08but it's cathartic enough to make up for it.
11:11Sadie M had him get stung by a bunch of bees,
11:13so it probably would have done something like this now if it went on long enough.
11:17And at least it's still establishing that Eggman's surprisingly fearless because he does these things.
11:23It has Snively pull Eggman up, which is said to be no easy feat.
11:27No kidding.
11:29Those words just draw attention to the fact that it should be impossible.
11:33Maybe this version of Snively has super strength.
11:37It makes as much sense as Sonic having super speed.
11:40Logically, why would humans never have powers in a world where random people can get born with them?
11:45Eggman has cybernetics already, so Snively could be strong for that reason to help him out.
11:51It would definitely not be canon to Sadie M though, where he's supposed to be weak.
11:55Sonic jumps and Snively shouts a blatant lie which makes Antoine somehow dumb enough to look away.
12:02And Eggman slices off the bungee cord on Sonic.
12:06That's impressively smart.
12:08First time it ever happened to Sonic.
12:10But it's held back because it only got to be done by giving Antoine the idiot ball.
12:15The story takes forever to establish that Sonic ran up the falling cord.
12:20He holds one piece of the cord in each hand and ties the cut ends into a nut at super speed so that it can do all the bungee jumps.
12:30And as usual, he calls Eggman Buttnick.
12:33Eggman is much less demeaning and immature.
12:36Sonic threatens to have Eggman eat the cord for lunch if he does something like that again.
12:41Why doesn't he do it to him now?
12:43Why doesn't he put it in his shoe for later?
12:46He must just be bluffing.
12:48I'm glad Eggman doesn't get to call him out because Eggman's a jerk.
12:52The same logic for why Sonic didn't kill Eggman at the end of Sonic Riders after he passed out,
12:57that he's too much of a softie, would also apply to him not pushing Eggman off the cliff to free Mobius here.
13:04Already discussed how selfish these so-called heroes are for having a no-kill rule with a tyrant
13:10when real-life freedom fighters aren't like that for a reason.
13:14The standard for a good hero is different depending on context.
13:19I almost forgot to point it out because I've gotten used to these stupid Sadie M books.
13:23Sniffly suggests they move on to the next event, and inexplicably, Eggman says that this is an excellent idea and why it keeps him around.
13:31Even though they were going to move on anyways.
13:34This is not in character.
13:36This reminds me of when AOSDH Eggman was nice to his sidekicks.
13:40It was nice if Antoine asked Sonic if he's alright.
13:43Sonic says Sonic's the name and speeds my game.
13:46That's in character.
13:48That was a meme all the way back in 1996.
13:51I thought it was from modern Sonic.
13:54It could have started from an obscure novel nobody read.
13:57I like that he says he's even happier because he beat a cheater.
14:01Oh, I hate that the story cuts away to Sally's boring subplot with blatantly worthless recap about the backstory of Eggman's fortress,
14:09and overly descriptive narration about the sentence she and Rhoda are walking through.
14:14Nothing interesting is going on.
14:16Sally comments that there's only one robot guard instead too.
14:21So why didn't the robots hear her and Rhoda talk?
14:25Robots would have great hearing.
14:27Rhoda's invention makes a loud beeping noise,
14:30and the robot rushes into the woods after the device when the heroes aren't there anymore,
14:35letting them head to the locked door.
14:37Wait a minute.
14:38How in the hell is there woods next to Eggman's fortress?
14:42Especially since Sadiam established that he sent airships flying everywhere that destroyed all of the woods close to Robotropolis.
14:52I guess Rhoda made the woods with a really vast tree growing serum,
14:57and Robotnik was too lazy to destroy the forest because he wanted to capture the heroes first.
15:03Rhoda secured wires to both sides of the lock and switches on the power to open the door.
15:10I love that Rhoda is so much more useful and gadget heavy in the books.
15:14Sally says nice trick, and Rhoda humbly responds.
15:18He takes a long time explaining how his invention works, even though he should have already told you that at home,
15:23and Sally says his frequency generator won't keep the robot busy all day,
15:28which only makes me wonder how the robot didn't go up to them.
15:31They don't find bunny, but they do find shells full of weapons.
15:36They hear robots threaten them, and the narration says they're trapped,
15:40as I'm now pissed that Rhoda didn't bring a robot destroyer like he invented in a previous book.
15:45Remember, these books have continuity with each other.
15:48Even if the earliest ones aren't canon to this, it is still shown to be so capable that he has no excuse for coming here without a weapon.
15:55After a bunch of padding, Sally thrusts upwards the laser rifle and shoots it at the ceiling,
16:01which crushes one of the robots.
16:03Which is exactly what Rhoda already did, but at least she tried.
16:07And that description gives Rhoda the time to use his robot paralyzer against them.
16:12Rhoda says nice work.
16:14That's nice, but it's bad writing that Antoine isn't the only one who calls her princess.
16:19They're supposed to be friends, not her servants and soldiers.
16:23And this could create the false impression otherwise.
16:26Whatever happens to royal titles don't matter in the forest.
16:31Maybe she'd be a little more popular without this worthless detail.
16:35Sally says nice work as well, and says she can see why they kept his weapon on a high shelf.
16:40They go to Eggman's control room using Rhoda's weapon, and use Nicole to search the main computer and look for references to Bunny.
16:48If the control room is as easy to get into as this, they'll have no excuse for not returning and arresting Eggman.
16:55I thought the only way he could get into the control room was to disguise yourself as a robot, and make sure Eggman's in there so that he can press a button to open the door.
17:05Why did he decrease his security on it?
17:08No wonder this is a last at EM book.
17:11Right after this, Sonic would have gone to the control room and arrested him.
17:15Nicole says sorry, and explains that Eggman made an orbiting spaceship that's a prison.
17:20Sally jumps to the conclusion that Bunny's there, and nobody points out that she could be wrong.
17:26She thanks Nicole, and Nicole says always glad to help.
17:30She's better in this story than she is in the show.
17:32She's an actual character, even if she is still a flat one.
17:37Sally tells Rhoda they're gonna get some Bunny with a spacecraft, and Rhoda naturally asks where they're gonna get one,
17:44while not realizing that Sally's going to tell him to build one.
17:48Logically, it would take a long time to build a spacecraft, to the point where looking for one would still be worth doing in the meantime.
17:55Once again, she's not the great plan maker she's cracked up to be.
17:59But I know better than blaming the character instead of the writer.
18:02How is Rhoda unsure that he can make a spacecraft?
18:05And being humble keeps him from being annoying, but also makes him even more redundant with what Tails is supposed to be.
18:12It goes back to Sonic's point of view, and simply boringly explains the rules of the rock climbing race.
18:18And Antoine cathartically lampshades,
18:21I think I'm capable of grasping the concept of a race.
18:25Sonic should be the one getting to have snarky lines.
18:28Because he's cool, and we actually like him.
18:31Why does the writer think Antoine has this right?
18:35Antoine's also smart enough to think the bad guys might cheat again.
18:39Too bad there isn't any embarrassment potential in the bad guys climbing.
18:43It should have been a real extreme sport, not something inherently boring.
18:48If they have all the extreme sports in this and had to pick a filler one,
18:52then they should have had skateboarding instead of this.
18:55They should have had, like, snowboarding.
18:58Mountain biking.
19:00I assume mountain biking is going to be part of the competition.
19:04Because it was established as an extreme sport at the start.
19:09I forgot every competition is simply listed because he said so much,
19:13and that's why I shouldn't have been rimmed to explain what all of the contests would be.
19:17Eggman cheats using a small valve on his belt, leading to a plastic tube down his pants that squirts oil to make Sonic slip while climbing.
19:26Antoine has a sarcastic quip, and the story wastes my time with Snively smirking and so on.
19:33I already would have assumed Sonic kept sliding down.
19:36Sonic gets the idea to move his feet so fast that the heat burns off the oil.
19:41But Eggman still wins the contest.
19:44That impresses me as well.
19:46I don't think he'd win once.
19:48I love that the story is about making Eggman proactive.
19:52He's actually doing something in person instead of just sitting on a chair.
19:56Why does this story bore me by showing Rhoda making something when it's not done yet?
20:02It's bad that Sally snarks at Rhoda that they don't need to go under the sea when she sees a spacecraft.
20:08I don't think that's in character.
20:10Why did he have an old diving bell in the workshop?
20:13It feels like he got it out of Sonic X, in the future.
20:17So this is the first time there was ever a diving bell in the franchise.
20:21At least I'm being able to use it for the spaceship's body explains why he was able to build a spacecraft best.
20:27But still doesn't justify it being completed so fast, because there's other parts of the spaceship than the body.
20:33So never mind.
20:35Since it's a cartoon, maybe people would've suspended their disbelief if Sonic was the engineer in the show and Rhoda didn't exist, because Sonic's supposed to be cool.
20:44And then judging by OSDH, he would make things so fast with his speed that it wouldn't have this plot hole.
20:50He could make a race car with super speed.
20:53Sonic being a gadgeteer would've at least tried to make up for him being criticized for his flaws, even when he rarely shows them.
21:00So it comes off as an insulting game Sonic instead.
21:03Sally somehow thinks that it would matter if a million Swapbots went after her, when Rhoda has a robot paralyzer, and they would be ready to use it right away in this instance.
21:15If Rhoda has this nasty habit of having gadgets get shot out of his hand, then maybe they should take that as a hint that Rhoda shouldn't be holding the gadgets anymore.
21:26Sally also confirms that the robot paralysis doesn't wear off with time, because she thinks Bunny would still be without her super strength.
21:35The story's got boring narration again.
21:38Rhoda uses his robot paralyzer as a weapon to put in the spacecraft, as Sally memorizes the blueprints of the prison.
21:45Rhoda has stayed up all night, which at least tries to justify why he got the spacecraft done.
21:50And you do have to stay up multiple nights to actually notice a huge impact.
21:56I've stayed up all night a few times.
21:59Why does Sally insist on going with Rhoda on the adventure?
22:02She never does anything!
22:04And with the way she demeans Sonic for his love of adventure and risks, it makes her look like a hypocrite.
22:10Because a love of adventure and risks has to be why.
22:15And that's why Sonic doesn't act how you'd expect and forbid them from going on missions because they don't have any powers.
22:22They wouldn't follow his advice anyways.
22:26The spacecraft slips through a secret exit.
22:29I'm glad this was explained to explain how it escaped the underground base of Nothole.
22:34It goes to space in just seconds.
22:37I have a feeling that it would need a magic anti-gravity field in the cockpit to prevent Sally and Rhoda from passing out from the G-Force to be getting there so fast.
22:47I guess it must have one.
22:49He must have found a magic anti-gravity gem.
22:53Sally has a rare moment of appreciating beauty, seeing that space is incredible.
22:59Rhoda wastes time asking Nicole if she's ready for no reason before using her as her navigational computer for the ship.
23:06I like that it calls the spaceship a ship because it's faster.
23:11Rhoda says download please.
23:13I wouldn't think Nicole would need to transfer the location to track down the prison.
23:18I guess there's tons of satellites.
23:20I figured Mobius was so primitive it only had one.
23:23In SatAM they made a big deal about a satellite being launched.
23:27They acted like there was only one satellite.
23:32Rhoda has to avoid a laser from robot piloted fighter jets and then shoots them with a paralyzer.
23:39Rhoda also knows how to spin the spaceship around like a top spraying paralyzing energy around it to neutralize every attack ship around them.
23:47So that's cool.
23:50Sally says nicely done and Rhoda parks the ship at the prison and grabs the robot paralyzer.
23:57The pacing was good when they were in space and now it's boring again.
24:01It didn't need to describe how the prison looked.
24:04We already assumed it looked that way.
24:07It should have just cut to Sally putting Nicole in a terminal to find out Bunny's here.
24:12And that conveniently she's the only prisoner.
24:15It must be new.
24:17Much like this whole subplot is.
24:19It was also nice of Sally to ask what about other prisoners in the first place.
24:24Sally says Bunny and is smart enough to say they'll explain how she found her on the way home.
24:29Rhoda uses his lock picking device to unlock the cell door.
24:33And it turns out Eggman had the common sense to have alarms go off in response to that automatically that would send robots after them.
24:41So he was smart enough to assume Rhoda would make a spacecraft.
24:45Rhoda paralyzes one group of robots.
24:48Frustratingly a robot still gets the chance to shoot the robot paralyzer out of Rhoda's hand.
24:54I think that makes sense.
24:57I mean it was busy.
24:59Sally's smart enough to say they've got to go home without Bunny because if they don't escape now, no one on Mobius will know what happened to them.
25:07I wonder if this is another one of her moments of making a harsh decision instead of a nice sounding one that immature idiots would hate her for.
25:14Even though it's clearly the only smart and good course of action.
25:18Her getting captured would cause a lot more stress for a lot more people than the stress it caused Bunny if she left her.
25:25So the adventure was all for nothing just like I thought.
25:29Good thing it was interesting.
25:31Rhoda apologizes to Sally.
25:33At least it had a plot twist because they didn't end up trapped here.
25:37And there's another one because the spacecraft gets shot and starts heading for a crash landing.
25:43It picks the worst time to go back to Sonic.
25:46The story should have immediately cut to the basketball tournament being in progress.
25:52We're not idiots.
25:53We know what a slam dunk contest is.
25:56And wait a minute.
25:57This isn't an extreme sport.
26:00Eggman couldn't possibly win in every extreme sport.
26:04But it should be explained that he intentionally didn't pick an extreme sport because it'd be easier for him to win.
26:11Did they run out of extreme sports when they included every single one?
26:17I have a feeling they didn't include all of them.
26:20Antoine hypocritically tells Sonic to relax because his pacing is making him nervous.
26:25At least he said, will you please?
26:28He's a jerk, but it'd be unfair if I didn't force myself to do this for him too.
26:33Sonic relatably says that while he knows he's good at this contest in theory, what's the use if Eggman's gonna cheat?
26:40I like that Antoine says to Snively, I'll go slam dunk yourself.
26:44That surprised me.
26:46Eggman uncharacteristically thanks Snively without having to and soars into the air to do a slam dunk.
26:52It didn't explain that he cheated.
26:55Sonic jumps and does two spins on the way there and does a slam dunk.
27:01Antoine says very nicely done while applauding.
27:05I think this is the first time they've had good chemistry.
27:09Then he says he prefers bridge.
27:11At least it did give him a little more character.
27:14Even if it's in a boring way that'll never be used.
27:18Eggman does the same thing again.
27:20Why did the narration wait until now to explain that his shoes are spring loaded?
27:25I'm pretty sure Brain already had this idea.
27:29It would've been not like him if he didn't cheat.
27:33And at least this is new.
27:35But I still feel cheated that I missed out on seeing him fail at a slam dunk in my head.
27:40The next time Sonic tries, the ball bounces off the rim making him lose.
27:45Because Eggman had a lid slide over the basket's opening while Sonic's backwards through the hoop and then disappear.
27:51It doesn't need to explain that a goal was set up at each soccer field and everything else.
27:55Just cut to the chase.
27:57And soccer's not an extreme sport.
28:00Why aren't they doing snowboarding?
28:02And skiing?
28:03Eggman huffs and puffs trying to keep up with Sonic in the soccer game.
28:08But he kicks the ball suspiciously well using steel-toed shoes.
28:13Sonic still keeps the ball from entering his goal and absolutely creams him at the competition.
28:18Antoine says Sonic's the winner while mocking the tone that Snively had used when Eggman won.
28:24The story shouldn't have reminded me that the next contest is the last one.
28:29Now I know for a fact that Sonic's going to win it.
28:32Because it's a tiebreaker.
28:34And how in the hell is Sonic being good at surfing in character?
28:39He was too scared to learn how to swim.
28:41Even Eddie W knew not to have him surf.
28:44I'm pretty sure in 7am he's afraid of drowning.
28:47But this narration doesn't mention that.
28:49It makes just as much sense that Sonic's only afraid of drowning when he's actually in the water.
28:53Sonic is smart enough to assume from Eggman getting his surfboard into deep water effortlessly that he's got a motor on it.
29:00But Sonic doesn't despair and is the only one doing fancy moves.
29:04So he wins anyways.
29:06With the book taking way too many words to get there.
29:10There should have been a different sport than surfing in here.
29:13I don't even think of it as an extreme sport.
29:16There's lifeguards so it's not like you're gonna drown.
29:20Androan wouldn't say dude.
29:22Even here.
29:23But it was sweet of him to say well done.
29:25Sonic thanks him and says nothing to it when you're me.
29:29That's really the honest way of saying it.
29:32The when you're me could be implied whenever any Sonic says it was nothing.
29:37Is it any wonder I don't see Game Sonic as being humble when he says stuff like,
29:42No sweat.
29:43Piece of cake.
29:44Eggman goes into the sea and bombs up and down in it.
29:48And I like that the narration describes him as a beach ball.
29:52He also takes in gulps of salt water because for no reason he thought he had to tell Snively to save him.
29:58Predictably, Eggman said he never had any intention of freeing Buddy.
30:03The spacecraft of Sally's crashes into the side of a mountain and explodes.
30:08I wonder if they ejected themselves out of it.
30:11Yep, Sally shows up with a parachute along with a rotor right away.
30:15Realistically, they would have ejected a bit earlier and not been close to Sonic to reassure him.
30:21Apparently they thought it was worth the risk of not ejecting time if it reassured Sonic as soon as possible.
30:27Antoine asks if she's alright when she clearly is.
30:32Eggman presses a button to summon a ton of robots.
30:35And I don't know why he bothers wasting robots because Sonic can destroy them on his own without any of them getting to hurt his friends.
30:43I could forgive it in Sonic Boom because they had to have an action scene or it wouldn't be a Sonic show.
30:49Sonic was never about fighting robots in the first place.
30:53And it's got enough tension in it that it doesn't need that.
30:56The SWAT bot spaceship that had followed Sally's ship here takes off.
31:02And Sonic grabs his paraboarding equipment and jumps onto the outside of the spacecraft as it lifts off.
31:08Paraboarding equipment.
31:10And we had to assume that just like in Sonic 2, he has the required secondary power of not blacking out from getting sent up into the thin upper atmosphere and getting sent into space.
31:22And of course we also had to assume that the space prison had oxygen in it.
31:27That it had an air bubble around it.
31:29Somehow his friends didn't freak out from him doing this.
31:32After all, aren't they unaware that he has this magical power?
31:36And Sonic should be as well, but he just didn't think ahead.
31:40The same would apply to Sonic 2.
31:42I like that Sonic's thoughts say he just invented a new extreme sport.
31:47When the ship gets close to the prison, Sonic opens his parachute and steps onto his paraboard to use the momentum he had to glide through space and get to the prison.
31:57Which must have its own gravity.
31:59Because otherwise, a parachute shouldn't send him towards the prison.
32:04He smashes the robots and uses a key from one of them to free Bunny.
32:08Why did any robot walk around near Bunny with a key to the cage anyways?
32:13Wouldn't the key be somewhere further away?
32:16That was a bit too easy.
32:18Realistically, Bunny can't walk without a robotic strength to move her heavy metal legs.
32:23So Sonic carries her to the office of the Swapbot commander that had stolen Rhoda's robot paralyzer.
32:30He puts her down to destroy the robot and she makes dozens of robots get paralyzed.
32:35Why wasn't the widest beam the only setting for the weapon?
32:39Sonic says nice shooting and they use a cramped one person craft to fly away.
32:44At first it tumbles end over end because Sonic doesn't know how to fly it.
32:49That's realistic.
32:50Sonic just went up to some flyable machine he never used before and flew it well.
32:55That would be bad writing.
32:57Through luck, he presses the button for the automatic stabilizers that logically shouldn't have needed to be pressed if they're automatic.
33:04They should have just been on by default.
33:07He flies the ship down to the world below.
33:10And Bunny fires the weapon at the robots that were leading away their friends for being too pathetic to fight robots.
33:16Sonic says nice going and Bunny presses a button called auto landing sequence.
33:22Again, that shouldn't require the press of a button if it says auto on it.
33:26They had a much easier time landing than when Sonic and Rhoda had to fly something after being on a saddle in 7am.
33:32Why weren't the controls so user friendly then?
33:36Because that was actually trying to be realistic.
33:39Sal exclaims the obvious that Bunny's safe and they hug.
33:42Antoine tells Sonic a way to go.
33:45Rhoda reverses the charge on his robot paralyzer by using tools from his tool build and gets Bunny back her strength with it.
33:52Naturally, she thought it felt creepy to see him pointing that weapon at her and it reassured her.
33:57She kicks a huge hole in the Swapbont spaceship.
34:01Although that was actually stupid because the hero should salvage that thing to use it just in case.
34:06So now Rhoda's going to have to repair that hole.
34:09Eggman would have tried to get it back regardless to save the effort of making a new one.
34:15Bunny thinks Rhoda and the story ends with Sonic going back to the mountains to go mountain biking again.
34:21Wouldn't Eggman mountain biking be a cool image?
34:25This story was by Michael Taytelbaum.
34:29And despite the bad pacing it was actually good.
34:32Because both of its subplots were new and would have been engaging even if they weren't.
34:37While it didn't get me to enjoy seeing Eggman suck at sports as much as I had hoped.
34:41It is more interesting and cool to see him naturally use his gadgets to cheat.
34:46Sally's subplot where she tried to save Bunny may have been for nothing.
34:50But it didn't feel like that because it was still interesting to see.
34:53And usually made Rhoda look cool.
34:56And having Sonic be good at sports has him be cool in a whole new refreshing way.
35:01The whole story shouldn't have logically happened.
35:04Because I don't find it very believable that Sally and Bunny didn't use the robot paralyzer in time.
35:09So it should have been written that robots surprised them from behind a bunch.
35:13But since the story is interesting enough I forgive them.
35:16The story would have been less compelling if some random character was kidnapped.
35:21So it had to be demeaning to one of the main characters to get the same effect.
35:25So that's a shame.
35:26I wish they had to save a MacGuffin instead of Bunny.
35:29They could have the same exact stories in these books.
35:33And just have to save a MacGuffin.
35:35I don't know why Sonic Activity Book was included in the list of Sonic novels.
35:40Because it doesn't have any story in it.
35:43I'm not going to talk about the Sonic X novels.
35:46Like Meteor Shower and Messenger.
35:48Because they're exact copies of Sonic X episodes.
35:52I read most of it so I know.
35:54If there are any differences they weren't big enough for me to notice.
35:58And nobody cared enough about it to put them down on the wiki page.
36:02But I will say one thing good about them.
36:04At least when it comes to the one that I read.
36:07At least I wasn't bored to death by overly descriptive narration.
36:11I'm not scared.
36:12I'm not scared.
36:13I'm tired.
36:18I'm tired.
36:20I'm tired.
36:21But this is the most difficult.
36:25I'm tired.
36:26Okay.
36:27I'm tired.
36:28I'm tired.
36:29I'm tired.
