00:00Right back out of here on the early line.
00:02It's the Sports Grid Network and college football.
00:03Did you love week zero?
00:04Did you even love week one more?
00:05Week two is on deck.
00:07Now, do we have this sort of titanic battles that we saw in week number one for week number two?
00:11No, we don't.
00:11But the surface is going to start the level right now.
00:14But we do have a new AP top 25 poll that has been released.
00:18Ohio State, the new number one team in the nation, followed by Penn State, LSU, Georgia.
00:24And look at that.
00:25The Miami Hurricanes, after knocking off the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, now appear at number five.
00:30And also, Joe, as I teased before the break, the return of the state of Florida here?
00:35How about Miami at number five?
00:37How about the Florida Gators at 13?
00:40How about the Florida State Seminoles at 14?
00:42Football is better when the big three in the state of Florida are kicking some butt.
00:47Amen to that, Donnie.
00:49I mean, unranked to now the number 14 team in the country was Florida State.
00:55You knew whoever was going to win that game between Miami and Notre Dame, that was there was going to move up a couple of spots there at the very least.
01:03But LSU moving up six spots as well.
01:07Now the number three team in the country here.
01:11I think very interesting because teams like Oregon and Georgia, well, they haven't really played anybody yet.
01:18Penn State's got two more cupcakes before it goes there.
01:22But it'll be interesting to see here what we get.
01:26But that top ten, it's kind of hard to argue with, Donnie.
01:30I think those are the ten best teams in the country right now.
01:33Let me ask you a question on this, too, because I look at Florida State at 14.
01:36Unheralded coming into the season.
01:38Yes, they had a great victory over Alabama.
01:39We'll see how good Alabama actually is.
01:42But when I look at Miami, the expectations were somewhat high, right?
01:45Okay, there'll be a good football team entering into 2025.
01:47Same thing we probably thought with the Florida Gators.
01:49But the Florida State Seminoles were a bit of a surprise in week number one.
01:53Is that the real Florida State Seminoles?
01:55Or is that just, hey, we caught a team that wasn't prepared in game number one.
01:58We played a good game and away we go.
02:00What's the sentiment on Florida State staying, Joe, for you in the top 25 this season?
02:04Well, I mean, listen, it won't take long for us to figure it out here with Florida State.
02:11But I, for the first time since that big run that they had that unfortunately ended with their quarterback getting hurt.
02:19But that was, to me, regardless of the players, we always knew they had athletes.
02:25Florida State, whether good or bad, off a two-win year, is going to have one of the best recruiting classes, is going to have football players.
02:34The big question I've always had with that program is, is the coaching really up to par?
02:40And I got to tell you, to have that many new faces coming off the kind of year they did, for that coaching staff, with a new quarterback, new OC, and new everything,
02:52for them to have those kids ready like they did against an Alabama?
02:55I can't help but to think that maybe good days are ahead here for Florida State.
03:00We'll see what happens, or if there's good days ahead for Clemson and LSU.
03:05I always like the post-game pressers and how these coaches actually answer questions.
03:09We got some answers here.
03:10We need some, I guess, on what Dabo Swinney was talking about on them losing to LSU.
03:14I mean, we make the first tackle.
03:16I mean, Wade's got the guy.
03:17He's got, I mean, I don't even know how his knee didn't go down.
03:20But he, you know, without that run, I mean, like I said, the last 58 minutes is 2.8.
03:24And that is a physical group, is a very smart quarterback, and that is a back.
03:33So, they're going to be a problem.
03:35And they got some explosive dudes, and it was a hell of a game.
03:38It was a hell of a game.
03:40Down to the last play.
03:41Right out of the gate.
03:43It's like getting the final exam, day one of class.
03:46They made a 65, we made a 58.
03:51Day one of us were great.
03:54Ah, the grading right there.
03:56Before we get a rebuttal from you, Joe Ranieri, let's check out also what we had to hear from
04:01Mr. Brian Kelly on that answer for what Dabo Swinney had.
04:04We dominated him in the second half.
04:07So, he's either a really good grader for, you know, giving himself a 58,
04:13or he's a really hard grader on us, or he didn't see the second half,
04:18which that might be the case.
04:19He might not have wanted to see the second half.
04:20But these two coaches are just some of the worst to listen to, by the way.
04:27Like, does anybody love Dabo?
04:28Does anybody love Brian Kelly?
04:30And these two guys dueling back and forth, Joe.
04:31Come on.
04:33Well, at least he doesn't have a Louisiana accent.
04:36I got to tell you this.
04:37That was maybe the best mic drop of the season so far there for Brian Kelly.
04:44Yeah, apparently he didn't watch it.
04:46Or maybe he didn't want to watch the second half.
04:48Just drop the mic, Coach Kelly, and just walk off the stage, and that's it.
04:52That was enough said across the board there because he's right.
04:56It wasn't even close in the second half.
04:59LSU was clearly the better team in the second half.
05:03Yes, they were.
05:04Clemson had a touchdown lead at the break.
05:06Didn't score in the second half.
05:07LSU did multiple times.
05:08They walk away with the victory.
05:09And finally, LSU gets that big win opening weekend,
05:12the sort of catapult their season into the SEC.
05:16Oh, let's get after it here.
05:17College football, look, we are excited for tomorrow night's action in the NFL.
05:21It's kickoff, the pageantry, the pop, the circumstance,
05:24the banner getting raised there in Philadelphia,
05:25and then we kick off the 2025 season.
05:27But in college football, Joe, we've already been through three weeks,
05:30even though this is only technically week number two
05:32because you have a week number zero in college football.
05:34Make it make sense.
05:35It doesn't.
05:36It's just the way it is.
05:37But we're going to find out here.
05:38Michigan and Oklahoma should be a pretty good battle.
05:41And if we look at some of the history here with Oklahoma versus Michigan
05:45since 2007, which is give or take roughly 20 years,
05:50conference championships for Oklahoma 10, Michigan has three.
05:53Playoff appearances, Oklahoma 4, Michigan has three.
05:56Wins, Oklahoma 172, Michigan 144.
05:59And wins against ranked opponents, Oklahoma 46, and Michigan at 27.
06:05Now, as I look at this, you see the graphic up there?
06:07What's the asterisk for?
06:09Is that just like they don't like Michigan?
06:10They're poking fun at them cheating and maybe taking away some of those?
06:14Like, what would the asterisk be up there for those?
06:16That's a great question.
06:17Why even have them at this point?
06:19Because it's not like you can't, like the whole,
06:23oh, we're going to take away wins.
06:24No, you're not.
06:25Those games were played.
06:26They were won.
06:27They were lost.
06:28You're not taking away wins.
06:29And so, you know, hold on to your asterisks, folks,
06:33because nobody really cares one way or the other at this point.
06:37How about the favorites here for Oklahoma, though?
06:39Opened up at 2.5 at FanDuel.
06:40Now FanDuel has 5.5.
06:41Looks like DraftKings 4.5.
06:43Bet MGM 5.5.
06:44Bet 3.655.
06:46Westgate 5.5.
06:46So with the cited favorite for Oklahoma,
06:49is this just one of those cases where, okay, you know,
06:51both of these teams played.
06:52Now we'll find out what they're about.
06:54It's a top 20 battle.
06:55Michigan's got a rookie, basically, freshman quarterback
06:58who's going to go on the road for the first time
06:59in a hostile environment.
07:01Is that the way we're looking at it?
07:02And also the total.
07:03Very low to me at 45.5.
07:05But that's indicative of what we saw week number one
07:08with some of the big teams in the big games.
07:09Not a lot of scoring.
07:10But that was, Joe, because most of the time,
07:12those teams were coming into a top 20 battle versus each other.
07:16And that's not the case.
07:17You had two teams play last week,
07:19two teams going to play this week,
07:20but a game already under their belt.
07:22Do we see more points?
07:24Yeah.
07:24And, well, you know what else?
07:26You know what else he is, that freshman quarterback there,
07:30Bryce Underwood from Michigan.
07:32He's also a millionaire now.
07:35Welcome to the NIL era, which, like it or not,
07:4018-year-olds dropped with a whole lot of heck
07:42of a lot of money in there.
07:44Boy, I tell you, it changes people, Donnie.
07:47And it's a new reality that we better get used to
07:50in college football, because look at the kid from UCLA,
07:54former Tennessee quarterback, you know, making millions of dollars.
07:57Do you really think he cares?
07:59They got absolutely embarrassed and trounced over there
08:03against Utah this week.
08:05I'm just saying, keep that in mind.
08:07In the meantime, Brent Venerables and OU,
08:09clearly on the hot seat.
08:11You know, sorry.
08:13Norman, Oklahoma, you want to talk about,
08:16you think there's a problem in Tuscaloosa with the fan base.
08:18You ought to see what's going on in Norman right now.
08:21So Brent Venerables, the issue for him
08:23has always been that offense.
08:25He has not been able to figure out the offense.
08:28He's as good a defensive coordinator as you will find.
08:31The defense and Norman, they are going to be legit here.
08:36So John Mateer, his offensive coordinator,
08:38former Washington State player, and OC there,
08:43are now at the helm here.
08:44They are going to be much better than what they were a year ago.
08:48And his kid, Mateer, is the real deal.
08:49A lot of guys think he's a dark horse for the Heisman.
08:53I mean, he is absolutely capable.
08:57Nothing that I saw from Michigan led me to believe
08:59that they are going to take a freshman millionaire quarterback
09:03into Norman and just run up and down the field on him there.
09:07So don't forget, Donnie, four and a half, five and a half.
09:11What is the, the books don't see a difference.
09:12It's no man's land for the books.
09:14It's not a key number one way or the other.
09:16So if you like, oh, you lay the number, which is exactly what I did.
09:22And again, it's such a slippery slope in college football shows talking about,
09:26like you can be on the top of that crest for so long,
09:28give it two or three bad years.
09:30You make a one bad hire coach recruits aren't there
09:33and you slip right off the cliff.
09:35We've seen it so many times happen to the bigger programs.
09:37I mean, heck look at Nebraska.
09:38Yeah.
09:39They sell every single year,
09:40but throughout my childhood in the eighties and nineties,
09:42every single year they were in the top five, Dr. Tom Osborne retires.
09:45They never got it back at this point.
09:47And it's been 20 years.
09:48Plus if you're Oklahoma, now you're in the sec, you don't get the cut, Joe,
09:53you don't get the cupcakes every third game.
09:54Like, Hey, our only big game is Colorado.
09:56We'll win nine games every year.
09:58You, they didn't sign up to go to the sec and go 500 football.
10:01So watch out for Oklahoma.
10:03They need this big win to stay on that platform here to keep recruiting.
10:05And certainly the sanity here for their head coaching staff as well.
10:09But in the next hour, Joe,
10:10we're going to get the people caught up with all the hot topics once again,
10:13but I'm excited.
10:14Like we didn't have that.
10:15As we talked about that week one with four or five bell cow games,
10:18this looks like it's going to be the game of the week.
10:20It's a seven 30 game on ABC at night, Eastern time.
10:22And I'm looking forward to it.
10:24I want to see what Michigan has here in Oklahoma.
10:26I want to see if Oklahoma can be for real with another big victory at home.
10:30Time will tell, but you know, that's the time it's work.
10:32Our number two coming up next right here on the early line.
