00:00Let's get after it. Same thing we do every single morning on the early line.
00:04It's what we do. It's a sports grid network. Get in the mix, people.
00:07College football, NFL, it's all coming up soon.
00:09And also, one coming up a little bit sooner than the other one.
00:12Yeah, we're going to wait until the first week of September, Joe,
00:14for that Thursday night football game in Philadelphia.
00:16We're not going to wait too much longer for the college football season.
00:18Not this Saturday, which you'll wake up and yawn and be like,
00:22ooh, we're seven days away from college football.
00:25I feel like we're not ready for the college football season,
00:28but we're ready for the college football season, if that makes sense, Joe.
00:31You know what I mean?
00:32Like, just getting prepared to see it on your TV.
00:34And when it does appear in two Saturdays, like, this is fantastic.
00:38And then before you know it, it's like week 11 of what happened.
00:41Where did it all go?
00:43Yeah, well, and what makes it even better, Donnie,
00:45is we're in an errant college football where there is a big push
00:50to play very meaningful games as early as possible in the season.
00:55And we are getting a ton of those in week zero here.
00:59I mean, this is no longer Alabama versus the sisters of the poor.
01:03Like, this is, we are going to go mano y mano.
01:06We're going SEC, Big Ten.
01:09We're going Notre Dame, Miami.
01:11I mean, we have got monster games right out of the gate.
01:15And I love it that way.
01:16I think that's the way it should always be because, listen,
01:19these teams we know are likely going to be at least the ones playing in week zero
01:25are going to be top 10 teams with an opportunity to play for a national championship.
01:30If you're going to lose a game, I want to lose in week zero, Donnie.
01:34Give myself an opportunity to be able to come back and learn a little something.
01:38So none of these teams that are going to lose, by the way, in week zero can be ruled out of anything
01:44except maybe dropping in this poll here, which makes no sense to me anyway,
01:49if we're being completely honest here with how is Penn State, the number two team, is beyond me.
01:54Penn State quarterback returning back, Drew Aller, dominant backfield here.
01:59But number one overall is Texas, number three, Ohio State, four, Clemson, five, Georgia, six, Notre Dame,
02:03seven, Oregon, eight, Alabama, nine, LSU, and the Miami Hurricanes are number 10.
02:08But you bring up a good point at this too.
02:09Like, it used to be like you opened up the season and college football in the past,
02:13which I loved it, I love it now as well.
02:15You lose opening day, you're probably never going to win a national championship,
02:18even if you lost a game against a top 10 opponent, which seems like it wasn't fair,
02:22but that's just the way it was.
02:23Mythical national championship, you got to go undefeated and you got to beat all those teams
02:26just to wind up in that championship game.
02:29But I got to tell you, there is something special about these early season matchups
02:32that get you so, so excited.
02:34Like in the past, we've seen it so many times at the Miami-Florida State games
02:37that used to play on Labor Day weekend were absolutely spectacular.
02:40One of those games in overtime, Frank Gore rumbling into the ends
02:43and like sets up your entire season for success against a rival.
02:46But understand this, you do get some brownie points for loading up early in the season.
02:51And even if you take a loss, you can recover.
02:54And the polls will find kindly on that because they'll go, well, hey, look,
02:57one verse two, one verse three, one verse four in the preseason,
03:00you're basically week zero, week one, you lose that, you can rebound.
03:03In the past, you couldn't do that.
03:04And we're going to get a spectacular game, Joe, right off the start
03:08with Texas and Ohio State.
03:11And Ohio State's going to be at home in the horseshoe,
03:13a slight favorite over number one, Texas.
03:15The total is 47 and a half.
03:16Intrigue all the way around.
03:18Like you could just dive right back into college football immediately
03:21and sink your teeth into an absolute thriller for what we're expecting.
03:26Yeah.
03:26I mean, listen, it wasn't like Texas didn't have some success, right?
03:31In its infancy here in the SEC.
03:35Now they're the number one team in the country preseason-wise.
03:40And that carries a lot of weight, you know.
03:42But with that comes a lot of expectations, Donnie.
03:46And that Texas fan base might be one of the most unrealistic,
03:50unselfaware fan bases that you will ever see every year, though.
03:56Like, you know, like many schools, though, but Texas is over the top.
04:00And anybody that has seen the locker room renovations at Texas,
04:05have you seen those, Donnie, with what they've got better luxuries
04:10than NFL locker rooms right now at Texas?
04:13There is a lot, I mean, a lot of pressure for this University of Texas
04:18football team to come out hot on the road in one of the hardest places
04:23to play in the country at Ohio State at the shoe and come out
04:27and dominate them, the champions.
04:30Good luck here.
04:31Can the Longhorns deal with all the pressure that comes with being number one
04:36is going to be what I'm interested to see.
04:38Yeah, it used to be in the past, like every once in a while,
04:40we'd get those big games called the kickoff classic in college football,
04:43usually play like the Meadowlands.
04:44I remember going to school in northern New Jersey,
04:46and the one year was Texas A&M, and it was Florida State to open up the season.
04:49I was there.
04:50It was fantastic.
04:50But you don't really get those matchups a lot,
04:52but now we are going to see a titanic matchup within the first two weeks
04:56of the season, which is a lot of fun.
04:57And just, again, looking at the Blue Bloods, because I'm like,
04:59oh, I'll give the other schools a chance.
05:01Like, I like, like, traditional teams.
05:03Like, how many times, Joe, have you stumbled on, like,
05:05the 30 for 30s that run endlessly with the Catholics versus the convicts
05:08and Notre Dame and Miami and their legacies that they had and, you know,
05:11old Notre Dame Stadium and Jimmy Johnson and Lou Holtz.
05:14Like, those are the ones we love rivalry games.
05:17And Texas or Ohio State, even though it's not a Blue Blood,
05:20long-term rivalry they've played a ton of times,
05:22it's two Blue Blood programs going toe-to-toe,
05:25and those fan bases are so passionate and sometimes over the top.
05:28Like with Texas, expectations are a championship every year.
05:31Ohio State feels like their expectations are a championship every year,
05:34and they can fulfill them.
05:35Good head coach and Ryan Day, one of the best recruiters, you know,
05:38and heartline on the offense.
05:39But that's the way we go into the season, which then brings us up to,
05:42what are the expectations for the season?
05:44Who are the teams that should be able to win a championship?
05:46And, yes, you're looking at the top and the Blue Bloods that we just talked about.
05:49Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, Alabama up there.
05:53If you had to take a shot right now, knowing what these teams are supposed to look like
05:57as opposed to what we know by, like, week four or week five,
06:00who are you going with preseason, Joe?
06:02Well, it's interesting because nobody is talking about Georgia,
06:07which I find hilarious.
06:08But it's not like none of these, like these teams at the top, Donnie,
06:12don't have a lot of question marks.
06:15I mean, even Texas in the number one spot, they had four offensive linemen
06:20that they have to replace who are currently in NFL camps right now.
06:25Three NFL draft picks.
06:27You have a, you've got a brand new quarterback in Arch Manning,
06:30although he has been there.
06:31This is his first year as a starting quarterback,
06:33and you have questions on the offensive line.
06:36And if you're Ohio State, you have to replace 14 NFL draft picks,
06:41seven in the first two rounds, and you've got to kind of slot new guys in there.
06:47So you've got two new coordinators.
06:49You've got Brian Hartline promoted to call plays for the first time.
06:53Matt Patricia, because Jim Knowles left to go to Penn State,
06:57is your defensive coordinator for the first.
07:00There is a ton of question marks with all of these teams,
07:03especially the number one and number three team in the country
07:07that are going to face off with expectations of a national championship.
07:11No doubt about it.
07:12Heisman race certainly should be a lot of fun to watch it play out.
07:15And Arch Manning is the favorite at seven to one price,
07:17followed by Cave Club.
07:18Nick Garrett Nussmeyer, nine to one, Smith, 11 to one, and Simpson, 16 to one.
07:22We know these things are going to change from times.
07:25But also, if you're taking a look at Arch Manning being the full-time starter,
07:28going on the road and knocking off Ohio State,
07:31what does that number go to?
07:32I don't even care what he does in the game.
07:34He doesn't need 325 yards, passing three touchdowns,
07:37and 75 yards on the ground.
07:39Just win that game.
07:40He's probably going to cut that number in half.
07:41But opportunities outside of Arch Manning,
07:44who could you be looking for here, Joe?
07:46Yeah, well, that's the problem.
07:49I do think that Clemson is an interesting, undervalued commodity
07:54if you're looking in the futures market.
07:56And I think if that does come to fruition, keep in mind that Clemson defensively
08:02was atrocious last year.
08:04So what does Dabo do?
08:05He brings in Tom Allen, the former head coach at the University of Indiana.
08:10He brings him in, great defensive coordinator.
08:14I expect them to be much better defensively.
08:17And you've got Klubnik there, who is a former Texas guy,
08:21who is no stranger to big games.
08:23He has been there.
08:24He has done this now.
08:26This could be a year here in which Clemson surprises a lot of people,
08:30and so does Cade Klubnik.
08:32Yeah, how about Smith there?
08:33He's a wide receiver from Ohio State, 11-1 price.
08:36Absolutely talented.
08:37Who is it?
08:38Ryan Williams down in Alabama.
08:39You've got some really good wide receivers.
08:40But typically, it is a quarterback award unless you get a running back
08:44that's like, yeah, I'm going for 2,900 yards and 50 touchdowns here
08:48to try to knock some of these quarterbacks off the podium at this point.
08:51But we are excited, certainly for college football
08:53and the Sports Grid Network, definitely going to have you covered here
08:55in the fall.
08:56Number one, Texas.
08:57Number three, Ohio State.
08:58Right off the bat, week zero starts next Saturday.
09:01And away we go.
09:02Weeks one, two, three.
09:04All the way through.
09:05The basically goes as long as the NFL with the expanded playoff.
09:07Now, you get a lot of college football in a short period of time,
09:10and I cannot wait for it to get started in just a few weeks.
09:13The dog days of summer are turning into the dog days of football, baby,
09:16and we love that.
