00:00Hello. Now that we're into September, we are, of course, into meteorological autumn.
00:05Now, September can still have some spells of warm and sunny weather, but this week we're not really going to see that.
00:11We're going to be talking a lot about rainfall, a classic autumnal setup, really, with low-pressure systems dominating the UK and a south-shifted jet stream.
00:21That's the fast-moving ribbon of air high up in the atmosphere that pushes the weather systems our way.
00:27We'll see one air of low pressure moving across the south on Tuesday and then another one pushed along by the jet stream.
00:34Barrels across the UK for Wednesday. Those lows will bring spells of rain, some strong winds and some heavy showers following on behind.
00:42After that, though, there are some signs that the jet just pushes a little further north.
00:48Still weather fronts moving in across northern areas towards the end of the week.
00:52But by the time we get to Friday, higher pressure, at least in the south, should offer something a little drier.
00:58That's at the end of the working week. However, let's go through the next few days, which will be dominated by rainfall.
01:06Welcome rain for some because it has been so very dry.
01:09But this rain is going to be quite heavy in places across Wales, southwest England, pushing into the south-east and east Anglia during the day.
01:16Further north, something a bit drier on Tuesday. Not as many showers. Still some showers, but perhaps a bit more in the way of sunshine compared to Monday.
01:25And the winds for many will be a little bit lighter on Tuesday as well.
01:29Temperature-wise, close to the average for the time of year.
01:32High teens, maybe low 20s in the east before the showery rain arrives.
01:36But feeling cooler, particularly as the breeze picks up along the south coast at times.
01:41But the winds here are going to get stronger on Wednesday as we look out to the west.
01:46That weather system we saw earlier being spun up somewhat by the jet stream and pushing in.
01:51Still a bit of uncertainty about the exact track. Could be a little further north, could be a little further south.
01:56But this set of weather fronts is going to bring a pretty wet start to Wednesday.
02:01Wednesday, of course, back to school day for many.
02:03It could be a very soggy start to term across England and Wales.
02:07A band of heavy rain moving northwards, pivoting around and followed behind by some pretty heavy showers.
02:15There will be some brighter skies developing to the south.
02:18Western Scotland may do OK for dry and fine weather on Wednesday.
02:22But otherwise, expect some fairly hefty downpours.
02:26When the sun pops out, the rain clears, we should again get temperatures into the low 20s.
02:30But it's going to be windy, particularly over South Wales, southern counties of England.
02:35Some pretty strong gusts along the south coast, especially.
02:38So a blustery day thanks to that area of low pressure, which exits out into the North Sea during Wednesday evening.
02:46But still generally our weather patterns controlled by low pressure.
02:51Follow the ice bars up to the northwest.
02:53That's a showery direction.
02:55So Thursday, we're back to sunshine and showers.
02:58Probably a cloudy start over central and eastern parts of England with some outbreaks of rain.
03:02A cloud will break up to reveal some sunny spells.
03:05But you can see that whole rash of showers just packing in.
03:08Similar conditions to how we saw through the weekend with a fairly brisk wind, meaning the showers do chug through.
03:15So some sunny spells lifting the temperatures.
03:17So get to close to average high teens or low 20s.
03:21The wind's not as strong as Wednesday across the south, but still adding a freshening feel.
03:27The ice bar is still closely packed then and low pressure still in control through Thursday.
03:31But by the time we get to Friday, there is high pressure trying to build in the south.
03:35The ice bar is opening up just a touch.
03:37Weather fronts notice behind me will push thickening cloud maybe to northern Ireland and later western Scotland.
03:44And there will be a few showers ahead of those, but generally a lot drier on Friday.
03:48Certainly across much of Wales, the Midlands, southern England, not expecting much rain on Friday.
03:54So generally a dry and a bright day.
03:55And as I said, those winds should be a little bit lighter.
03:58Temperatures struggling in the mid-teens across western Scotland with some more persistent rain here.
04:03Elsewhere, a bit of brightness should see those temperatures into the 20s.
04:07Now, weather system does drift away to the north, but it's linked into another one.
04:11And that's the big question mark as we head into the weekend.
04:14High pressure now sitting to the east, low pressure to the west.
04:17How quickly will these weather fronts bring another band of rain in from the west?
04:21And notice those ice bars squidging together as well.
04:24But also notice some warmer air is pushing up from the south.
04:28So a bit of a fight going on through the weekend.
04:30Could be that Saturday's quite warm with some sunny spells before this next weather system comes in.
04:36That's something we'll be keeping a close eye on as we go through the course of this week.
