North England and north Wales will experience some heavy showers this evening. These showers will begin to subside overnight and become confined to coastal regions. Overnight temperatures will be below average, especially in rural areas. Into tomorrow, a band of heavy rain will push in from the west, with strengthening winds. - This is the Met Office UK weather forecast for the evening of 13/09/2025. 00:00Hello again.
00:01We could see the first frost of autumn in some prone rural spots tonight, but further
00:05wet and windy weather is on the cards for Sunday.
00:08And that's courtesy of this area of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic.
00:11These weather fronts will bring a spell of heavy rain to many parts of the UK through
00:15the day and the isobars are going to tighten together as well, so we are going to see some
00:19strong winds and a yellow warning for wind is in place for many parts of England and
00:24Wales.
00:25But back to Saturday evening, and there are still a fair number of showers around at first.
00:29Some of these quite heavy, particularly across North Wales and Northern England, where they'll
00:33be fairly frequent for the next few hours or so.
00:36Otherwise as we go through the course of the night, the showers will become pretty isolated
00:40and mostly confined to more coastal regions, so skies clearing inland, turning dry for many,
00:45and it is set to turn into a rather cold night for the time of year.
00:49So in rural areas, we like to see temperatures quite widely dip down into single figures, even
00:54a touch of grass frost in some southern areas of the UK in the most prone spots.
00:59But across northern parts of Scotland, particularly the Northern Highlands in the Glens, while
01:02here we could even see temperatures get quite close to freezing and there may even be one
01:06or two mist and fog patches in some prone spots.
01:10Out towards the west though, we have got a thickening cloud arriving across Northern
01:13Ireland and the very far southwest.
01:15And that's courtesy of this band of rain going to be pushing in fairly quickly through the
01:20day on Sunday morning.
01:21So expecting it to turn wet across Wales, southwest England and Northern Ireland through the morning.
01:27Early morning brightness further east will be fairly short lived, but nonetheless it should
01:31stay fairly bright with some hazy sunshine into the early part of the afternoon, particularly
01:34for northeast Scotland.
01:36Otherwise it turns wet and windy and we see some pretty heavy bursts arriving through the
01:40afternoon.
01:41These shades of yellow and red indicating the really intense nature to some of those bursts
01:46of rain.
01:47So pretty wet and windy for many by the time we get to the afternoon.
01:51And those winds strengthening further as we go later into the day.
01:54I always see coastal gales developing, 40 to 50 mph gusts likely in the most exposed spots
02:00here.
02:01But even gusts of around 40 mph in some southern and western areas by the end of the day.
02:06That's going to make it feel quite cool and unpleasant.
02:08So temperatures fairly close to average for the time of year.
02:11Highs are around 15 to 19 degrees, but as I say with that wind and rain not feeling too
02:15wonderful.
02:16As we go through Sunday evening that rain continues to make its way further north and east across
02:22the UK.
02:23So some rain for northern Scotland as well.
02:25Showery conditions arriving from the west behind that and the wind strengthening further.
02:29So we're likely to see even potentially some inland gales as we go through Sunday night.
02:35A wind warning coming into effect for many parts of England and Wales and fairly frequent
02:39showers arriving as well, particularly across Northern Ireland and some other northern and
02:42western parts of the UK.
02:43Some pretty heavy downpours here with the most persistent rain becoming confined to northern
02:47Scotland.
02:49It does mean though with those winds strengthening that it's going to be a much, much milder night
02:52to come on Sunday night compared to Saturday night.
02:55Temperatures across the board holding up into double figures and in the south we might not
02:59see temperatures fall much below the low teens Celsius.
03:02So just focusing in then on those winds in a bit more detail.
03:06It's coastal regions that will see the strongest winds through Sunday night and on Monday.
03:10Irish Sea Coast potentially seeing gusts of up to, well, 60 to 70 miles per hour in
03:15some of the most exposed spots.
03:17But even inland, 45 to 55 miles per hour is enough to bring down some small branches
03:22from trees given that the trees are in full leaf at the moment.
03:25So do prepare for at least some travel disruption if you are travelling on Monday.
03:30We're putting a bit more detail on it then.
03:32So Monday starts on a fairly wet note across the Northern Isles with some persistent rain
03:36here.
03:37The most frequent showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland on Monday with some perhaps
03:41longer spells of rain also for Northern England.
03:44Further south, because of the winds being stronger, the showers will blow through pretty
03:46quickly.
03:47So there will be some sunny spells in between those showers.
03:50But there is certainly the chance of some heavy downpours and even the odd rumble of
03:53thunder pretty much anywhere.
03:55Those winds will stay strong as well.
03:57Even into the afternoon, coastal gales quite likely.
04:00So it is going to feel quite cool with those brisk winds.
04:03Temperatures around average once again, ranging from around 14 or 15 degrees Celsius in Northern
04:07Scotland to 19 or 20 degrees Celsius in the best of any sunshine in the south.
04:14As we move into Tuesday, perhaps a little bit brighter and drier for some of us with
04:18some sunny spells.
04:19But further rain probably arriving from the west later in the day.
04:23That's about everything from me for now.
04:24But I'll see you again very soon.
