01:56they've got a couple of good running backs although if you look at jeremiah i love stats
01:59he got a lot of empty calories had a bunch of yards against some bad teams and against good teams he was
02:05pretty average miami just needs to be miami run the football with mark fletcher and jordan lyle
02:09let carson beck operate because the guy is going to put up numbers 3500 plus yards this year

04:01last year when they couldn't run the ball they had riley leonard to bail them out and a lot of times
04:06third and four turned into okay we're going to run some kind of zone read where riley leonard may just
04:11follow uh jeremiah love into the hole and pick up the four yards on his own can cj car do that or do
04:18we see kenny minchi their backup quarterback who apparently has some better running ability than
04:22what you had out of uh obviously with cj car who won the game or won the job miami better be up to
04:28the task justin scott sophomore is going to have to play david blay kid that you transferred in going
04:33to have to play one thing i like though miami's a lot bigger at linebacker they've been in the past five
04:37six years you don't have any more 5 10 215 pound middle linebackers you got dudes that are 6 4 230

05:02of that hey john how important is this game mentally for the team because theoretically they
05:07lose this game close game no matter what happens uh even the the uf game we can make the same argument
05:12go win your acc games that's what the the canes have struggled to do consistently or really since they
05:18joined the acc and i think that's more important than anything at a conference game um but um notre
05:25dame opening the season top 10 matchup the last time you played them in that building you kind of
05:31solidified yourself again as being quote unquote back how important is this game because i feel
05:36like if the canes do win this game mentally um they approach that uf game and their acc regular season
05:43a little bit differently yeah i think solana for that it's how do you how are you really seeing
05:50nationally like how do people see you nationally with the changes they made in the college football
05:54playoffs the fact that they're going to put more emphasis on whatever this strength of record and
05:59whatever mathematical equation rich clark and his team came up with i think it becomes important to
06:03win a game like this for the psyche of the team for the psyche of maybe somebody like carson back it
06:08becomes really important to win a game like this as well because you want to go out and win this and
06:13show everybody hey the end of the georgia campaign is done and us losing a year ago to syracuse
06:20and iowa state was just a product of not having a good defense i think if you can go out and handle
06:27somebody like notre dame narrative becomes completely different there you can go out and
06:31win a monster game against a good team my only fear with that is you win a game like this and then
06:37what happens somebody goes well notre dame's not as good as a year were ago because you know they
06:41love to change the narrative when it comes to miami but i think for the team itself for mario
06:45building this to where you want it to be go out and win the game and shut everybody else up be a top
06:50five team come this time next week john is carson back set up to lose because he's not cam ward you're
06:58not going to see the same thing out of carson i watched him at you watched him at george you're
07:02in atlanta he's not cam warden are people going to be upset win lose a draw after going from cam to
07:08carson uh win they're not going to be upset he starts losing games people are going to be pissed off
07:14that he's not cam ward but i'll say this with carson back people got caught up and he had 12
07:19interceptions a year ago go look at what they had to deal with an offensive line that underachieved
07:25kirby smart and his team only averaged 120 yards on the ground last year which georgia normally lives
07:30in that 190 to 200 range that makes it easy he had a bad stretch against alabama and old miss and a
07:37couple of teams and that's where all of his interceptions were last three games of the year
07:41against tennessee some grab ass team i think umass and then georgia tech he won 11 touchdowns and no
07:46interception oh by the way they went to the sec title game and they won the sec and i get it he
07:51got hurt at halftime against texas but they were gonna they had a chance to win that game with him
07:55he went to austin texas and won a football game he goes out this year and wins games i think miami fans
08:01have to get over the fact that he's not going to throw for 370 with five touchdowns and have some
08:06of those magical plays but i think the ball is going to come out quicker he's a rhythm thrower he's going
08:11to have a better offensive line that he had at georgia and he's going to have to learn pretty
08:15quickly elijah lofton's going to be his boy you got to find him at tight end find some of these
08:19veteran receivers but get the ball out quicker you're not going to have that standing back there
08:23flat-footed the nonchalant as the kids like to say but i think carson's going to put up solid numbers
08:28but no he's not going to be cam ward because guess what nobody's cam ward obviously uh you don't know
08:35when you're making these schedules far in advance what the quarterback situation is going to be
08:39i don't think anyone knew you'd be going from a heisman candidate the number one overall pick in
08:45the nfl to a new quarterback but if you had your druthers is this the way you'd like to see carson
08:51back open a season on a prime time game huge stage against a higher rank team because maybe it does
09:00do something for his narrative if he doesn't look as good as cam ward did or as someone who's making
09:08the kind of nil money that he's making this is a huge stage to make your debut and i wonder if
09:14that actually is a pretty double-edged sword for him i i think it is but i think from the good side
09:20you're going to have a lot more mental sharpness out of the entire team knowing you're playing
09:24notre dame if you're oh if you flip them and it's bethune cookman week one and notre dame number
09:29two what do you learn from bethune cookman not much you know you go out you run the football you
09:34throw it eight nine times and you go sit with a towel over your head and a baseball cap against
09:39notre dame you come out and what i like about carson back is he's been in these games we just
09:45talked about playing tech he was at texas last year at alabama he's played in back-to-back sec
09:50championship games he knows what it's like for this big stage and i think that gives miami actually a
09:56huge advantage at quarterback over notre dame we've got a guy that's played in multiple games that meant a
10:02lot compared to a guy that's never taking a college snap and i'd rather have carson back you want to
10:08change the narrative and make everybody love you just go beat notre dame we could beat him 7-6 we
10:12could beat him 41-40 if he goes out and leads us to victory the narrative around carson back changes
10:17quite a bit and i think the same thing for miami and john you have you got the cane chain on you name
10:23your son can you are a hurricane but i tattoo right there what are concerns what i don't say concerns
10:31because y'all are very confident hawks talking trash already we've been on air we've been on air
10:35one day and he's already talking trash to me you say the linebackers are bigger carson beck's proven
10:41the o-line they have all all acc all american potential o-line what are the guys or the position
10:48that you're like oh let me let me see this to make sure we're right where i want to be carson
10:53beck's passes yeah it's it's number one to me as receiver and i get it cj daniels there jojo traders
10:59all world recruit played pretty well in the bowl game you got malachi tony joshua more uh ray ray
11:06joseph like you've got guys but not guys that have had to play in the biggest moments and i get it
11:11jojo played in the pop tarts ball guess what the second half we were auditioning quarterbacks so
11:16how much did that really mean my second concern is still going to be defensive back i know you went
11:21out and got 25 transfers but until they do it on the field and channing you play defense
11:26you know communication on that back end can be huge like you could tell a guy hey you're sticking
11:31this guy man to man and now all of a sudden they run some kind of motion that makes it a three by one
11:35look and now you're trying to pass off somebody from this guy to the next guy do you have that
11:40communication down pat with a short amount of practice time you know obviously a new defensive
11:45coordinator who's only been there since like january or february have you figured all of that out and i'll
11:51stay defensively as well my third concern is going to be interior defensive line i know i named some
11:56guys early on but again they haven't proved anything with a u on the side of their helmet
12:00so those three groups to me are going to be hugely important this one i think receiver will work itself
12:05out like you're a guy that can run a four three and can catch a football you can do that no matter
12:09what but that defensive backfield and that defensive front those guys got to play well especially that
12:14d-line group because you got to slow down the run and make cj car beat you coming up on sunday night

13:48coach but this morning i just said hey coach you met me in atlanta good luck um he never read the
13:54text i didn't figure he would because he's got bigger things to think about i have a big week john
13:58maybe do that for the bethune cookman week well no i figured i'll sit i'll kind of plant the seed now
14:03and as the season goes along if we keep winning maybe he gets a monday text after he gets off from
