00:00Let's recap everything that happened this weekend in sports in case you missed it.
00:03Our biggest story comes from the world of sports betting, and it certainly seems possible
00:08that if you live in a state without legalized sports betting, there may be a little bit
00:13of a workaround here.
00:15Kalshi, the company that is in the prediction market business, not sports betting, but prediction
00:20market business, wants to jump into player propositions as well.
00:24Now, naturally, they're not going to call that.
00:25They're calling it new event contracts that will allow users to trade on player touchdowns,
00:31point spreads, total scores, and that's just way different than what they've been offering
00:36previously with just futures and money lines, and right now, we're going to have to wait
00:41and see if the CFTC, the Commodity Future Trading Commission, decides to allow Kalshi to be able
00:48to provide these.
00:49If it does, it is game-changing naturally for companies like FanDuel and DraftKings, who are
00:54legalized sports betting operators and paying taxes on this as well.
00:58Needless to say, we'll see if Kalshi can operate on these in states like California and Texas,
01:03where you can't bet on sports currently legally, at least in the United States.
01:07Meanwhile, it should be illegal for Scotty Scheffler to play on the PGA Tour.
01:10This guy can't be stopped.
01:11Another victory at the BMW Championship.
01:14He has a chip on the 17th, which will go down in the history books.
01:1782 feet, landed 60 feet short, and then rolled the rest of the way.
01:23Super exciting win, again, for Scheffler, who is not only the best golfer in the world,
01:28he's becoming one of the best golfers of all time.
01:31Here's Scotty Scheffler as they head toward the end of the season,
01:34talking about the huge win that he had at the BMW.
01:37Yeah, I mean, it was a tough day out there.
01:39The greens got really tough to putt there towards the end, and it was a challenging day.
01:45You know, I was starting four shots back, but got myself into the tournament pretty quickly
01:48there on the front nine and did a lot of good stuff out there.
01:51Would have liked to have a few less mistakes, but overall, I mean, great battle all the way through.
01:56Did a good job of staying patient and executing when we needed to.
01:59All right, we'll go straight into questions, and we'll start with Doug.
02:01If you have a question, put your hand up, and we'll get you a mic.
02:04How did you play that chip on 17?
02:07What did you see, what were you trying to do, and what would you have been happy with, realistically?
02:14I mean, I missed it on the correct side.
02:18I think that's the most important.
02:19It was a chip that we practiced, and I knew how fast it was,
02:21and basically I was just trying to get it on the green,
02:23and it's kind of a bullpen back there to where everything kind of funnels towards it,
02:27and I knew it was just going to be really fast, so I'd do my best to get it down there
02:30and give myself a good look for par, and when it came out, it came out how we wanted it to,
02:33and then it started breaking and started looking better and better,
02:36and it was definitely nice to see that one going.
02:39In the NFL preseason last night, the Chicago Bears got their final look at Caleb Williams
02:45in a preseason game before the real thing begins in a couple of weeks,
02:49and man, he looked great.
02:5011 of 18, 184 passing yards and one touchdown.
02:54Meanwhile, what happened in this game last night?
02:56Chicago shut out Buffalo by a final of 38 to nothing.
03:01Yes, impressive performance for the Bears heading into the season,
03:05and meanwhile, on the flip side, what in the world with the Buffalo Bills?
03:07Sean McDermott, head coach, very upset with the performance,
03:11and it makes you wonder if he's going to have to play some starters in week three.
03:14Here's Caleb Williams on getting ready for the season opener.
03:18Yeah, it's super important.
03:19I think everybody being able to see the first team get out there,
03:24and I'm mainly speaking about our guys,
03:27being able to see everybody get out there and go and have a good, successful first drive.
03:32I think it sets the tone for us as a team.
03:35I think it sets the tone for how we expect ourselves to play and go out there and perform.
03:41So, yeah, it was extremely important.
03:43Yeah, they tried to at first show a one high, and then the weak safety rotated back.
03:56And Cole, you know, Cole saw it, did a great job seeing the middle field being open
04:00and made the adjustment on the route.
04:02And other than that, just dropped back, threw a nice ball to Cole.
04:05Later today, Sean McVay, the head coach of Los Angeles Rams, is expected to update everyone,
04:11although I don't know that it means much because thus far we've gotten updates
04:15that have been nonsensical with Matthew Stafford, supposed to practice, supposed to play,
04:19supposed to throw, yes, no, maybe, nobody really knows as the beat rolls on.
04:24But we may know a little bit more, I guess, today as the Rams prepare for the regular season
04:29without Stafford.
04:30Stafford has not participated in any practices or games.
04:33Jaguars wide receiver and cornerback, Travis Hunter, missed his second preseason game.
04:38He was held out of this one as a precaution, expected to be ready for the regular season.
04:42And the Eagles make a trade, acquiring John Mechie III, wide receiver from Houston.
04:48He goes to Philadelphia.
04:49In return, the tight end Harrison Bryant goes back to Houston.
04:55Meanwhile, week zero of college football kicks off this week.
04:58Get ready.
04:59It's farmageddon, as they call it.
05:01Noon Eastern, Iowa State and Kansas State playing overseas.
05:04Total 49 and a half as we get ready for college football.
05:08Yes, this Saturday, first game of the season.
05:12Tennessee is named their starting quarterback, Joey Aguilar.
05:14He, of course, is the starting quarterback now that Nico Amayaleva ended up leaving and
05:18going to UCLA.
05:19Syracuse names their starting quarterback, too.
05:21Steve Angeli as the starter there.
05:24And Alabama's running back, Jam Miller, is going to miss the opening game against FSU,
05:29which is coming up, by the way, on the 30th, which is not this week, but next week in
05:32college football.
05:33Zach Wheeler, in case you missed it over the weekend, unfortunate news for him.
05:36Dealing with a right upper extremity blood clot.
05:40The Philadelphia Phillies are cruising toward the playoffs and hoping for big things, but
05:44it looks like they're going to have to do it without Zach Wheeler, who is one of the,
05:48was one of the candidates who win the National League Cy Young.
05:50That looks like it'll be Paul Skeens at this point.
05:53Good news for the Phillies is that they will get Aaron Nola back pitching.
05:56And he made his first appearance over the weekend, but they're going to need him to be a
05:58lot better.
05:59And I don't know that there's any shoes to fill with Wheeler on that team.
06:02The winning streak for the Milwaukee Brewers has come to an end.
06:0714 wins in a row ends, courtesy of Austin Hayes.
06:11He hit a walk-off single in the 10th, and the Reds beat them 3-2.
06:15Also last night, in case you missed it, it was the Little League Classic between the Mariners
06:19and Mets.
06:20Mark Vientos hit a three-run home run in order to get the big win for the Mets, who actually
06:26won a series for the first time in a while.
06:287-3, the final, Francisco Lindor, after the game, acknowledging it feels like it's been
06:34a while since the Mets have played good baseball.
06:37Yeah, you're right.
06:38It's been a minute that we don't win a series.
06:44Winning is fun.
06:46Winning brings people together.
06:47When you're going through tough times, good teams have conversation among themselves, and
06:58when you win, you celebrate a little bit more.
07:02It feels good to have the aura to be a little bit higher, to be up, and to love on each other
07:10and celebrate each other's success.
07:13You know, it's a good thing right now, but at the end of the day, we enjoyed tonight.
07:19It was a fantastic day overall, and then turned the page.
07:26We got to go to the Los Angeles Dodgers weekend with the San Diego Padres.
07:31Not even close.
07:32The Dodgers complete the three-game sweep.
07:345-4 was a close game yesterday, but man, LA looks like a different category than San Diego.
07:38Also, the Chicago Cubs pick up a win on Sunday, as Dansby Swanson had a sacrifice fly in the
07:44eighth inning.
07:44The Cubs beat the Pirates by a final of 4-3.
07:48Yankees complete a three-game sweep against the St. Louis Cardinals.
07:52Good weekend for Paul Goldschmidt.
07:53Ben Rice had a huge weekend as well.
07:558-4 the final on Sunday.
07:57The Marlins escape Boston with a win yesterday.
08:00Jacob Marcy hits a two-run home run, and Miami comes back to win 5-3.
08:04Also, Nathan Uvalde for the Texas Rangers comes up big.
08:07Seven strong innings, Rangers beat the Blue Jays 10-4.
