Dry and sunny Saturday in store for much of the Northeast

A cold front will sweep across the Northeast on Sunday, bringing a wet end to the weekend for New England.

00:00High pressure for the most part is going to dominate the forecast.

00:03What does high pressure mean?

00:04High pressure means sunny skies and light winds.

00:07So whenever that happens in August, you know things are going to start to warm up.

00:11But not only warm up, they're going to get hot and humid across parts of the Midwest.

00:15We'll be watching out for some showers and thunderstorms off to the south,

00:18but overall across the northeast, it's going to be a winning forecast here

00:21for at least your Saturday afternoon.

00:23Look at some of these coastal areas, Portland 80 degrees, Boston 77.

00:27Now we will see some 90s there for Burlington and Buffalo.

00:30So yes, it will be hot for some areas.

00:32But overall, like I said, a winning forecast for your Saturday afternoon.

00:35Heading into Sunday, that's when changes move into the forecast.

00:38We'll see a cold front sweeping its way across the north.

00:40So cooler air to the north, hotter air to the south,

00:43and right in that Goldilocks zone in the middle is where we're going to be tracking some showers

00:47and thunderstorms.

00:48So heavy rainfall will be possible.

00:50So here's the overall breakdown of what we're tracking as we head into Sunday.

00:54That cold front will bring those cooler conditions to the north

00:57and yes, it's going to remain hot here across the mid-Atlantic

00:59into the interior towards the Mississippi River for your Sunday afternoon.

01:03And once again, in that middle zone right there across the northern plains,

01:07the Midwest, the Great Lakes into the northeast, including New England,

01:09we'll be watching out for widespread showers and thunderstorms.

01:13So for the weekend, if you have any outdoor plans here across parts of the northeast,

01:17you need to get your lawn mowed, you have any outdoor activities planned,

01:20try to get them done on Saturday.

01:22Try to get them done tomorrow because we're going to be watching out for rain chances

01:25in the forecast on Sunday.

01:27Temperature-wise, it'll be a favorable forecast here for Sunday afternoon.

01:30But overall, once again, with the chance of rain, with the chance of thunderstorms,
