Multiple rounds of Arctic air are set to sweep across the Midwest in the week ahead.
Transcript
00:00Well, the snow, the cold, they're not going anywhere, at least until mid-month at the earliest.
00:05Now, as we take a look at the most pressing concerns for the Northern Plains, the Great Lakes regions,
00:11it is the snow. We have winter weather advisories, winter storm watches, and warnings out for portions of the region.
00:18So let's dive into it a little bit more, but I do want to back up and talk about the cold, then we'll get more into the snow.
00:23They go hand in hand, right? The cold paves the way for the snow.
00:26So early this morning, we had record cold for some of us.
00:31Fort Wayne, Mount Pocono, both below zero and breaking previous records from the 60s or the 70s, depending on the location.
00:39A little bit less dramatic, but New York City, specifically at LaGuardia, that climate site, broke a previous record low.
00:46It's 20 degrees. Either way, cold is cold as we move specifically to the north central.
00:51Saturday is your break, but then our next wave of Arctic air, it moves right in Sunday, and that means single-digit lows or single-digit highs for Minneapolis.
01:02You've had plenty of single-digit lows. We'll drop down below zero when we get this next wave Sunday.
01:07Now, it's not as bad as this last one that we had this week.
01:11And I know I'm circling nine degrees, and you're thinking, you're saying that's not as bad.
01:16I say that because we're not challenging records.
01:19We do in the northeast as we get into Tuesday morning, but overall in the north central, there's not many places where we're approaching record lows or highs and, you know, minimum highs, so to speak.
01:31A low number for the high, not, you know, it's beating the high.
01:34Anyway, the point is, we get waves of cold, but I want you to pay attention to the purple.
01:39That shows the colder air. The darker the purple, the colder the air.
01:42And you'll notice, as we get this next wave diving down end of the week and start of the work week, the darkest shades of purple, they stay north into Canada.
01:50That is also why I'm saying it's not quite as bad as what we had earlier this week.
01:54However, that's just one wave. We get late in the next week, the next wave moves in.
01:58Again, the darkest shades of purple, the coldest air, staying north into Canada.
02:02However, these roller coaster temperatures, it's early December.
02:05We're not quite accustomed to the cold for the season just yet.
02:08It does still have some impacts, but it also paves the way for snow.
02:13Now, this is going to have road implications, travel disruptions, airports possible.
02:18Especially pay attention to the areas in the pink there.
02:22That's where we have some freezing rain possible, some sleet possible that you want to pay attention to.
02:26So...
