00:00It was a bit of contact between Jimmy and Matt, but nothing major.
00:07So I used the opportunity to pass both of them.
00:10And then I just looked after my tyre to save my tyre until the end.
00:15Matt, what happened on the last lap there?
00:17I just locked my brakes up into tower.
00:20The strength of the car, the Honda, was the brakes.
00:23You know, where we were struggling was power, just getting out the corners,
00:26getting the traction down, and that's where both the MG and the Vauxhall could just sneak away from us,
00:31out the hairpin and out the run through the chicane.
00:34So Anthony Reid finally gets to climb onto the middle step of the podium,
00:38but he'll have his work cut out in race two, where he'll be starting from tenth on the grid.
00:41Stay with us to discover how he gets on.

04:40The Breakdown Specialists.
04:46Welcome back to Croft for the second touring car race of the day.
04:49Lining up alongside Jason Plato is a brand new pole sitter.
04:52It's 22-year-old Stefan Hodgett and Vicky is on the grid with him.
04:56Stefan, it's your first pole in touring cars, so congratulations.
04:59But you obviously got here because of the reverse grid system.
05:01Does that detract from the experience in any way?
05:03I don't think so.
05:05I'm here on pole with an open track in front of me.
05:08So even though I've finished 10th in the first race, I'm still on pole for this one.
05:12You still have to do a certain job to actually finish 10th in the first one.
05:16It's not as easy as just finishing 10th.
05:18Especially with people like old Jason O'Rourke trying to outfox you into 10th place.
05:24Now, what is it like sitting alongside Jason, who's obviously been in touring cars for many years?
05:28Yeah, definitely. It's obviously good for me that I can be here in this situation, but it's just any other human being sat next to me.
05:38Obviously, I've got a lot of respect for Jason, but we're going to be racing hard out there.
05:43Lovely. Best of luck.
05:45Now, here's Ben with the rest of the grid.
05:47Stefan Hodgett started racing karts when he was just four years old, so his confidence should not be misplaced.
05:52But Jason Plater is a former touring car champion and a double race winner this year.
05:57Luke Hines has a lightweight VX Racing Astra in third.
05:59Dan Eve starts fourth.
06:00And there's another pair of next generation drivers on the third row with Colin Turkington and Rob Huff.
06:05James Thompson has an opportunity to close the points gap to Muller.
06:08But the more heavily ballasted trio of Matt Neill, Muller himself and Anthony Reid could struggle to make headway on a circuit which rewards nimbleness.
06:15Carl Brees and Jason Hughes are on row six to be chased by the proton of Sean Watson-Smith and the VXR Junior entry of Michael Bentwood.
06:22Another Astra in the hands of Rob Collard and the second proton of Fareed Karaman are on row eight.
06:26But towards the back, keep an eye on the progress of Tom Chilton who suffered a puncture earlier today.
06:31And the pair who failed to finish race one, James Kay and Charlie Butler Henderson.
06:36Stefan Hodgett then with a tremendous opportunity to lead for the first time in touring cars if he gets off the line.
06:42Well, well, initially he makes a search.
06:44Luke Hines is stuck though from the second row.
06:46Luke Hines does not get going.
06:48Stefan Hodgett has been passed on the run down to the first corner.
06:51Oh, where's Jason Hughes going?
06:53Completely different direction to the first corner to everyone else.
06:55And into the corner and Hodgett is off.
06:58Hodgett's in the gravel track.
06:59Oh, it's all gone disastrously wrong for him.
07:01Into the first corner from pole position.
07:04He's in the gravel.
07:04It's Jason Plato that leads this race.
07:07Surprise, surprise there, I suppose.
07:09Tom Chilton getting sideways in the middle of the pack.
07:11But Stefan Hodgett is out already.
07:13And it's Plato who leads.
07:15It's Dan Eves in second.
07:16And Rob Huff in third.
07:17Don't try to come past if possible.
07:19Well, a disastrous start for Stefan Hodgett.
07:22He bogged down on the line.
07:23And behind him, Luke Hines stalled altogether.
07:26And then to add insult to injury, he got turfed off on the line.
07:29There we see it on the line.
07:31Not enough revs.
07:32Too much clutch.
07:33And the engine bogs down.
07:34He was lucky he didn't stall.
07:35Moving down into the first corner.
07:37He's been swapped left, right and centre.
07:39Thompson on his right.
07:40He tries to come in.
07:41And someone whacks him up the back.
07:43Turns him round.
07:44One of the Halfords cards in the mix as well.
07:47Yeah, this is the view once again from the first corner.
07:49We saw Jason Hughes shoot out.
07:51But Jason Plato had the lead into the corner.
07:53And then suddenly, from that mid-pack,
07:55Stefan Hodgett shot out sideways into the gravel trap.
07:58And sadly, there's no getting out of that gravel trap.
08:02As you can see, front-wheel drive.
08:03And gravel doesn't really work.
08:05The thing that does work is a tractor.
08:06That's pulling him out of the way as the leaders come around
08:09at the end of their first lap.
08:10Yellow flags flying.
08:11So no overtaking allowed at that point.
08:13It's Jason Plato from Dan Eves, Rob Hart, James Thompson.
08:17Then it's Ivan Muller with Matt Neill directly behind him.
08:20And then the two MGs, Colin Turkington and Anthony Reid,
08:23the winner of race one, not really making any progress yet.
08:26Through the flat-out chicane.
08:28And look at the speed that Dan Eves Honda's got.
08:30Tremendous speed through that chicane.
08:31But the Seats are very quick on the straight.
08:34And Plato just pulls away from him.
08:36And Rob Huff is along the outside of him.
08:38Yeah, look at this.
08:38Rob Huff trying to go around the outside of the tower corner.
08:41The right-hander.
08:42And he's got just a little bit of an edge here.
08:44We're watching from on board James Thompson,
08:46who's directly behind the two.
08:48But now coming up to the left-hand part of the Esses.
08:50And Rob Huff's through.
08:51So he's into second place.
08:53Dan Eves demoted to third.
08:54And now James Thompson will try, I'm sure,
08:57to put some pressure on Dan Eves.
08:59And perhaps nip through on the approach to Sonny here.
09:01Well, he's not quite close enough.
09:03Very difficult to get alongside somebody there.
09:05And he taps in behind Dan Eves
09:07and holds on to fourth place.
09:09Into the pits has come Rob Collard.
09:11And obviously some sort of mechanical failure there.
09:13The team having a good look around.
09:15But he's not back on his way.
09:16Rob Huff very sideways there.
09:17Coming into the hairpin.
09:18Still in second place.
09:20Ahead of Dan Eves.
09:20And look at Matt Neal and Ivan Muller just behind.
09:23They're rubbing doors once again.
09:24And look at the damage to both cars.
09:26Both their left-front wings are damaged.
09:28In Matt Neal's case, it's missing altogether.
09:30It happens frequently on the Hondas.
09:32But it never seems to affect their performance.
09:34But Muller outbreaks Neal on the way to the corner.
09:37And Neal gets a tap from Turkington as he turns in.
09:39Well saved.
09:40But Turkington's still fighting back on the inside.
09:44Absolutely.
09:44He's a feisty racer, isn't he?
09:46Turkington trying to get back through.
09:48And he is back past Matt Neal.
09:49And I think Matt will look at that and say,
09:51Wait, you gave me the tap on the way in there.
09:53The least you could have done is let me have the place back.
09:55But Colin is fired up.
09:57Plato comes through tower.
09:58Huff now in second place.
10:00And still Matt Neal.
10:01And now Anthony Reid.
10:03And he's got one MG gone past him.
10:04He does not want to let the second one through if possible.
10:07Let's just take another look at that.
10:09Three of the hardest charges on the grid.
10:11And Turkington just trying to seize the gap there.
10:13But tags the back of Matt Neal's car.
10:16Who then runs a little wide in the chicane.
10:18And Turkington's back alongside him.
10:20But a shrug of disbelief as further gearbox problems
10:23prevent Rob Collard from finishing.
10:25Leaders cross the line again.
10:27It's Plato from Huff.
10:28Then Danny's in a strong third place.
10:29Thompson in fourth.
10:31Ivan Muller in fifth place.
10:32And then sixth place.
10:34It is just Colin Turkington still from Matt Neal.
10:37They had their moments last time around.
10:39But Turkington's got the advantage.
10:41Anthony Reid still pushing hard.
10:43But he doesn't seem to show the sort of pace
10:45that we saw in race one.
10:46Although his lap times actually are looking very strong.
10:49But he can't get away through the traffic.
10:52And I don't think a second win is on the cards.
10:53At least in race two of the day.
10:55The two Seats are very much in control.
10:58But Dan Eaves, don't forget, he's won a race so far this year.
11:00He's at Alton Park earlier this season.
11:02Here comes his teammate.
11:03Matt Neal getting back down the inside of Colin Turkington.
11:05But I think he's gone in a bit too fast.
11:07And Turkington should be able to repass him.
11:09Yes, on the exit.
11:10Well, Matt Neal hasn't forgiven Turkington for that tap that gave him the place.
11:13And he's desperately trying to get it back.
11:15But he just outbraked himself a little bit there.
11:17But there's plenty more places for Matt to have a go.
11:20Jason Hughes out, I'm afraid.
11:22Steam pouring from the front of his privateer, MG.
11:25But look at Van Muller.
11:26Because he's now being attacked by both Colin Turkington and Matt Neal.
11:30And there's nothing to choose between them.
11:32And Turkington really has looked the strongest out there of this lead group.
11:36He's been able to get past Matt Neal.
11:38Can he now find a way past the reigning champion?
11:41Up towards the hairpin.
11:42This is a potential overtaking spot, of course, if he can nip up the inside.
11:46But Muller just places his car in the right place.
11:48And in fact, Turkington, oh, he's been caught out by Matt Neal.
11:51Well, Neal got his opportunity there with Turkington trying to set Muller up on the exit.
11:56Leaving the door wide open, so it's positioned back to the way they were.
11:59But one of the Protons, that's Farid Harrowman retiring, I'm afraid.
12:04Yes, another retirement for the Malaysians, driving the Proton Impian.
12:08So a sad way to end this race.
12:10But let's get back to what's going on with Ivan Muller and Matt Neal.
12:14And despite the damage to their cars, they're still going very quickly indeed.
12:18They're not quite on the terms of the top three.
12:20Topson a rather lonely fourth place.
12:22Not much he can do about that top three.
12:24As locking brakes is Anthony Reid.
12:26And he's got to watch out because that's his teammate, Colin Turkington, who's right in front of him.
12:30Doesn't want to take him off.
12:31No, but impressive place for Reid carrying maximum ballast after his first race victory.
12:36MG's looking very strong this weekend.
12:38Yes, I think the brake has allowed them to get some engine development done.
12:42Look at the view back from Ivan Muller.
12:44And Muller's gone a little bit wide here, has he?
12:46This could be a chance for Matt Neal to get past the Frenchman.
12:48I think he has gone alongside.
12:49And in fact, Turkington's going to try and take advantage too.
12:52Not quite able to on the exit of Sonny out.
12:55Look there, it is Matt Neal ahead of Ivan Muller.
12:58But Muller's still got Turkington trying to brave it around the outside into the Esses.
13:02No way there, I'm afraid.
13:03Not unless you're going to end up on the grass.
13:05And Turkington's sensible enough to know that.
13:07The best thing for him to do is to try and attack on the inside of the air bin.
13:10But no, Muller's got that cover too.
13:12Not often you see the champion, Ivan Muller, out psyched by pressure.
13:15But Matt Neal put the pressure on, down through Barcroft, into Sonny.
13:19Muller ran just a fraction wide.
13:21And that was all the invitation Neal needed to nip through.
13:24Rob Haft still holding second place.
13:26It's Jason Plater who leads this race.
13:28A 1-2 on the cards here for Seat.
13:30What a strong result that would be for them.
13:32The MGs also running in tandem, but not quite so well up of afraid
13:36as Turkington keeps trying to get past Ivan Muller.
13:40Seat, of course, had that 1-2 at Mondelo,
13:42but it was disallowed afterwards with Rob Haft being excluded
13:46for pushing out bentward.
13:47So this would be the first real 1-2.
13:49And what a result it would be for Seat.
13:51Still Turkington looking for a way past Muller.
13:54And here comes Reid once more trying to get alongside Turkington.
13:57In fact, he has just managed it.
13:59And we're looking back from Ivan Muller's cars.
14:01They accelerate now up to 90, 100 miles an hour.
14:04And they're banging door handles again.
14:05The two teammates for MGs, for WSR.
14:09But somehow they managed to sort out who goes through the corner first.
14:13And it's still Turkington with the edge over Anthony Reid.
14:16But into the last corner of the last lap.
14:18And it's Jason Plato who is indeed going to lead home as Seat.
14:221-2.
14:23What a fantastic result for the team.
14:25Their first season in British touring cars.
14:28That is Jason's third win of the season.
14:30And it's a 1-2 to back it up.
14:32Dan Eves finishes third.
14:34James Thompson's fourth, ahead of Matt Neal.
14:36Jason, I don't know if you can hear us.
14:38This is Ben in the commentary box.
14:39Many congratulations.
14:40A great drive.
14:42Yeah, thanks, Ben.
14:45Yeah, I don't know what I can say.
14:47I mean, you know, the guys in the fair sport, UK team,
14:50are doing just the most fantastic job for both me and Rob this year.
14:54And, you know, we're arriving at circuits without any data,
14:57no information.
14:58And yet we keep improving our car.
14:59And maybe we should call the second race the Seat race.
15:03But, yeah, over the moon.
15:04Great, great result.
15:07Jason Plato has now won as many races as James Thompson
15:10in this year's championship.
15:12And Rob Huff has matched his best finish so far.
15:14Dan Eves visits the podium for the third time this year.
15:17But Thompson will be disappointed at not putting more cars
15:19between himself and Muller.
15:21Reid was unable to overcome the double whammy
15:22of 10th on the grid and maximum ballast
15:24and wound up 8th despite fastest lap
15:26while Sean Watson-Smith completed the top 10.
15:29So it's a perfect result for the Seat team.
15:32Jason Plato backed up by Rob Huff.
15:35Congratulations, honey.
15:36Cheers, Vic.
15:37Fantastic.
15:38Absolutely fantastic.
15:39You started from 6th, so...
15:40Yeah, 6th on the grid.
15:42Steph didn't go off the grid very well at all.
15:44And just went around the outside of everyone
15:47into the first corner.
15:48Found myself in third, I think.
15:51Got past Dan.
15:51Had a good battle with Dan for the majority of that race.
15:54Gave me a little tap just to let me know
15:55he was there in the hairpin.
15:56But, yeah, fantastic.
15:58Couldn't have got any better.
15:58Brilliant.
15:59Well done.
15:59I just need a win.
16:00I know.
16:01It'll come soon.
16:01It will.
16:03Dan, you drove a really great race
16:04and were very, very close to second there.
16:07Well, yeah, it was a bit tame.
16:08Plato had wing commander Huffy behind him
16:10blocking his every move.
16:12I got a tow from Plato on the first lap
16:14and then I got a vacuum in front of the car
16:17so it dropped me right back
16:17and Huffy had a run on me.
16:20There's some cloud cover overhead
16:21as we look forward to race three.
16:23But there are problems already for Stefan Hodgett.
16:26Now, he's just been out of the pit
16:28and he's making his way round onto the grid
16:29and his wheel seems to have come off remarkably.
16:32So the marshals are there trying to help him.
16:35Push it, push it, Max.
16:37Well, the boys and girls in Orange
16:39doing a fantastic job.
16:40All volunteers, of course,
16:41the marshals at British Circuits.
16:43But doing their utmost here
16:44to get Stefan back onto the grid.
16:47It came through on the radio
16:48that the rear wheel's fallen off
16:50and it's very embarrassing to say the least.
16:53But we don't know.
16:54We think the upright may be sheared
16:55or something's broken
16:55and hub has broken or something.
16:58Well, it looks like the marshals
16:59have managed to cobble it together somehow.
17:01They've got the wheel on the car
17:03and Stefan is going to try
17:05and make it back to the pit
17:06so that the team can put it on properly.
17:10Well, you have to say
17:11he's been well out of luck today.
17:12He started on pole for race two,
17:14got dumped into the gravel
17:16and now this time
17:17losing a wheel on the outlap.
17:18Let's hope things improve in race three.
17:21We'll have all the action after the break.
