00:01He has four wins under his belt, and James Thompson's three victories and regular podium visits are keeping him in touch with the Frenchman.
00:09Winning races is great, but I mean, I'm not really where I want to be at the moment.
00:13Being second in the championship is not what I've got my eye on, but it's very close.
00:18Ivan and I have managed to pull away from everybody else.
00:21We have to progress even more to keep the pressure on the progress of the car.
00:27The problem now, this car starts to be old, so we wait the new car to the next step.
00:33Competition racing with Halfords this year using Honda Civics have propelled the experienced Matt Neill to two wins in the first half of the season,
00:39and Dan Eves got in on the act at Alton Park, claiming his first ever victory.
00:45Newcomers, Seat, took no time at all to make their impact.
00:48Former champion Jason Plato scored his first of two wins in round two at Thruxton,
00:53while star rookie Rob Huff has proved both aggressive and competitive, with two podium finishes of his own.
01:00There's lots to improve, but nothing that we're kind of kicking ourselves that we haven't done enough already.
01:07I mean, we're on target, we're achieving more than we wanted to at this point in the year, so we're still smiling.
01:15Losing work's MG backing at the start of the year has not stopped WSR from competing at the highest level.
01:21Anthony Reid has notched up six podium finishes, and last time out at Mondello Park,
01:25Colin Turkington claimed the team's first win of the season.
01:28This MG is now the best car on the circuit, that's what I believe.
01:31So really we've got to get 100% reliability and score strongly in all the remaining races this year.
01:37So after 18 races, Ivan Muller led James Thompson by just three points, but both Anthony Reid and Jason Plato had been showing very strongly in recent events.
01:49So that brings us up to date, to start of this weekend's events.
01:54Now race one took place earlier on today, and to bring us up to speed, we'll rejoin our commentators, Tim Harvey and Ben Edwards.
02:01We're all set for the stars of round 19 of the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship from Scotland.
02:08And it's the Scotsman on pole position in the MG, Anthony Reid, gets a great start.
02:12The hon's such a good start from Tom Chilton, but I think it might be enough to hold second.
02:16Yes, he's locked in front of Colin Turkington, James Thompson is in fourth place.
02:19There's a spin in the middle, that's Carl Breeze in the alpha.
02:22James Gay takes to the grass to avoid him, and Carl Breeze rejoins.
02:26So that could have been chaos, but thankfully I think they've got through it safely and no one has collected the alpha away.
02:32Oh, somebody is off and that might have been as a result, I'm not sure of what was going on.
02:36The marker post gets taken out straight away there at the chicane as Rob Huff attacks James Thompson and tries to get past fourth.
02:43And he's trying to go round the outside of Clark Kerb, a brave place to try, and he's on the grass.
02:47And he's through the banner, and he loses places of the results, and Rob Huff is devoted.
02:52Well, we've seen Rob Huff make some bold moves, but that was a little bit daft, that one.
02:56He was never going to get round the outside, always he was going to get pushed on the dirt.
03:00He's now lost his splitter and compromised his race.
03:03Well, Luke Hines' car still in the pits, so problems for his car.
03:07Anthony Reid leads, but look at Tom Chilton.
03:09Chilton is chasing the MG, he's right there with him.
03:12So we've got a battle for the lead here between Anthony Reid and Tom Chilton.
03:16Opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to age, of course.
03:19Anthony Reid, 47 years old, and Tom Chilton, 19 years old.
03:22Look at Ivan Muller here.
03:24Ivan's looking for the pressure on Dan Heaves.
03:26Currently running in sixth place with the top three are all closed up together once more.
03:31And Chilton keeps the pressure on Anthony Reid, and Luke Hines rejoins.
03:35Yes, don't know what the problem was there, but what a great battle up at the front here.
03:39Chilton looks really busy.
03:41Oh, no, no, no, little bit of a hold up here.
03:43This is the problem, you can attack the car in front, but straight away you have to defend from the car behind.
03:48Look at Chilton now, he's got to defend.
03:50This gives Reid an opportunity to break away, but three abreast into the hair pit.
03:53Fantastic stuff, Thompson's trying to go round the out.
03:55Thompson's trying to go round the outside here.
03:57Fun on the inside is Colin Turkington.
03:58Chilton doesn't know which way to go, but he does a great job there.
04:01He doesn't squeeze anybody out, and he's still got the place.
04:04Turkington's on his inside.
04:05There's a touch there between Turkington and Chilton, as Chilton shut the door.
04:08But where's Thompson going?
04:10Thompson's going round the outside.
04:11He's trying to take second place round the outside.
04:13It's a toughest dip.
04:14Oh, that's a great move from James Thompson.
04:17He's gone past Chilton, and he's gone in front into McIntyre's.
04:21Across the grass they go, and James Thompson's in second.
04:24That was a brilliant move, and a very brave one.
04:26Let's not forget, that's where James Thompson had a massive accident years ago.
04:30Concussed him and putting out a racing for several months.
04:33So that was a really brave effort.
04:35Here's a replay at the start.
04:37Everyone getting away fairly evenly at the front.
04:39Chilton moves straight across to try and block Turkington.
04:42Further back, let's look for the incident between Carl Bridge.
04:45Oh, you can just see there, he gets turned around.
04:47I think it was by one of the protons, Farik Harriman.
04:50And everybody else just does well.
04:52No, I think it was Rob Collard.
04:54Just does well to miss him.
04:55But for some reason, James Kaye just pulled straight off.
04:58Maybe there was a breakage there in the suspension.
05:00Possibly, yeah. Let's see what's going on here.
05:02James Thompson still under pressure here.
05:04Rob Huff is pulling into the pits.
05:06Rob Huff into the pits.
05:07So he has problems, presumably as a result of running wide.
05:10Out of that to Clark Kerff and he tried to go past Thompson.
05:13There he is.
05:14Huff into the pits.
05:22Look at this great battle.
05:23Turkington through.
05:24Oh, he's going home from Colin Turkington.
05:26Physical stuff, but he did it pleasedly.
05:29That was a great move from Colin Turkington,
05:31and it's put him into third.
05:32That was a good move.
05:33He's been looking up the inside there for several laps
05:35because Chilton takes a very direct attacking approach
05:38to McIntyre's,
05:40and it makes him slow out of the corner.
05:42Here we see it again.
05:43Well, we missed the approach to the corner,
05:45but he left the door wide open there,
05:47and that little bit of course cutting there by Chilton
05:50is not working in his favour,
05:51unlike some of the other corners where he is making time up.
05:56Well, we've still got a great battle going on here.
05:58James Thompson versus Colin Turkington.
06:00Thompson now in danger of losing that second place.
06:03They almost made contact.
06:04There was a bit of rubbing over around the hairpin,
06:06and now heading down towards Dufferstiv.
06:08Chilton's going to try and make it three abreast.
06:10Turning in there, Chilton just tucks into place.
06:12Turkington takes second.
06:14It's FG one and two here at Knock Hill,
06:17and that was great.
06:18Hard racing again from Colin Turkington.
06:20Thompson's demoted to third.
06:22Well, Turkington, we've seen him come alive
06:24usually in the last race there.
06:26Wow, look at the difference in line between.
06:28Chilton is going to work for him this time.
06:30That was really good.
06:31He carried good speed through the chicane,
06:33and straight-lined it as only he seems to do,
06:35and it just carried him past Thompson,
06:37and Thompson's lost two places on this lap.
06:39But yes, hats off to Turkington for getting through
06:41and looking racing in the first race for an MG one-two.
06:45There is Reid versus Turkington down the hill towards McIntyre.
06:49The two MGs have a massive advantage.
06:51Turkington's caught up the gap to Reid,
06:54but I'm sure on this last lap he's not going to spoil a fantastic one-two for MG.
07:00This is the last lap.
07:01But he has caught up and he's looked very fast this weekend
07:04in this race with fastest lap as well.
07:06And Thompson and Muller running around,
07:08but there may just be a little bit to play for for that tenth place, I fancy.
07:12Well, it's been a fantastic outing for WSR, for Anthony Reid and Colin Turkington.
07:17We were chatting to John Cleland earlier on today, Tim,
07:20and John, who keeps a wary eye on touring cars over the last year or so,
07:24he's been extremely impressed by young Colin Turkington.
07:26He sees him as a real star, not only of the future,
07:29but of now, perhaps, in touring cars.
07:31But it's his teammate who wins, it's Anthony Reid who wins.
07:34Turkington finishes second and completes his finishing record
07:37of every race this year, and Chilton gets a fine third.
07:40Thompson takes fourth, Muller takes fifth place,
07:43and Dan Eves is going to come home sixth,
07:45but who will finish in tenth?
07:47Well, Jason Hughes would love the chance to finish tenth himself,
07:50and Rob Collard's going to do it.
07:52No, Jason Clayton does it perfectly.
07:54He finishes in tenth.
07:55That means that Clayton starts on pole position for race two,
07:59and Matt Neill will start on second place.
08:06So, Anthony Reid won the first race of the day,
08:08but Colin Turkington was demoted to fourth place.
08:11Apparently, he passed under yellow flag, so he doesn't get second.
08:14That goes to Tom Chilton.
08:16James Thompson finished in third place.
08:18Good fifth place for Ivan Muller.
08:19Jason Plato tenths will start on pole,
08:21and Jason Hughes just missed out on that opportunity.
08:26Now, I'm pleased to say that the sun has shone since that first race,
08:29and I'm here with Matt Neill, who finished ninth,
08:31but obviously starts in second because of the reverse grid system.
08:33Matt, did you have a good first race there?
08:35Well, unfortunately, we had to play the SEAC card
08:38and play it tactically after the dramas we had in qualifying.
08:41Now, tell us what happened in qualifying,
08:42because you had a bit of a nasty shunt.
08:44Yeah, we were on a hot lap in the second half of the session,
08:47and unfortunately, Tomo blew his engine going through and exiting the chicane,
08:53and was still on the circuit, and I came through,
08:55and the cars, if not airborne, are very unweighted.
08:58Came through the chicane, hit the oil, just slid down the circuit,
09:01and unavoidable, couldn't avoid him, and it was a big hit for both me and Jimmy.
09:05Now, what was the damage on the car?
09:07Fortunately for me, it hit the A pillar, which is quite a strong area of the car,
09:10but it creamed the back of the Ashtra of beauty.
09:13And what was it actually like for you in here?
09:15Because it must have been a pretty whopping impact.
09:17I'm not sure whether it was bigger for me or Jimmy,
09:19because I could see the impact coming,
09:20but Jimmy was sat there, not realising,
09:22and he just suddenly got a big whack from behind.
09:24But no damage to the car, and it seems to be handling quite well?
09:27Well, yeah, I think now the heat's risen,
09:29all the Hondas might struggle a little bit with the tyre wear,
09:31but we're at the front, which is the place to be,
09:34and it's going to be hard to overtake around here, so I'm going to go for it.
09:37Lovely. Thank you very much.

13:47Welcome back to Knock Hill.
13:48And the cars just making their way round on the final formation lap
13:51for the second race of the day.
13:53Absolutely glorious sunshine we have now.
13:55It was so murky and misty here at Knock Hill this morning.
13:58It delayed the start of the support races,
14:01but it's absolutely ideal conditions now for the start of round 20
14:05of the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship.
14:07And let's take a look now at how it lines up.
14:10Jason Plato starts on pole position.
14:12Can he do what he did at Croft last time out
14:14and win not only the second race of the day,
14:16but the third as well.
14:17Matt Neill lines up alongside him on the front row.
14:20Rob Collard, independent champion from last year.
14:22He lines up on the second row with Sean Watson-Smith in the Proton.
14:26They're withdrawing at the end of this year,
14:27but they're up for some good results now.
14:29The third row sees Dan Eves and Ivan Muller.
14:32Let's see whether the Frenchman can pull something out the bag this time.
14:35Colin Turkington lines up seventh after the penalty
14:38that pushed him down to fourth after the first race.
14:40James Thompson will line up next to him.
14:43And then it's Tom Chilton who now has inherited second
14:46for that first race, but he's been very fast all weekend,
14:48the youngster, and he's got the experienced Anthony Reid
14:51alongside carrying full ballast now that he did win earlier.
14:54Jason Hughes lines up 11th on the grid.
14:56John George in the LPG-powered Peugeot.
15:00He's 12th on the grid.
15:01Behind him it's James Kaye.
15:03He's been a bit out of luck so far this weekend.
15:05Richard Marsh next to him in the privateer Honda Civic.
15:08Then it's the VX Racing Vauxhall Astra of Luke Hines,
15:12Carl Brees and the Alfa Romeo.
15:14And the last two on the grid,
15:15Farik Harriman in the second of the Protons and Rob Hough.
15:19Now that could be a story.
15:20The second Seat coming through from the back of the grid, Tim.
15:24It's not going to be easy for him around Knock Hill.
15:26We've got to keep an eye on him.
15:27Knock Hill, a very difficult circuit to overtake.
15:29A reverse grid.
15:30The situation is set for some very...
