00:00Sponsored by Green Flag Motoring Assistants. You come first, every time.
00:15Induce me man, induce me.
00:17Tropicana, nothing added, nothing taken away.
00:30Now there's no holding back with free weekend calls from Vodafone.
01:01If you sell your car and don't send off the vehicle registration certificate with the new owner's details,
01:08guess he'll still be liable for the car tax and the fine for not paying it.
01:17The new vehicle registration rules. Are you up to date?
01:30All girls prefer dry guys.
01:50For great results with the minimum of fuss, you can always rely on Persil.
01:57After all, there's more to life than washing up.
02:14He kicked a ball before he could walk.
02:17He scored his first goal when he was two.
02:20He just loved scoring goals.
02:23And believe me, there were goals to be scored everywhere.
02:27Every Sunday, he went up to the park, him and his dad, against his two big brothers.
02:33He was always Gary Lineker.
02:35Of course, extra time meant extra washing.
02:39Luckily, they had a pretty good kit man.
02:42It didn't matter how dirty you got, Persil always got him clean.
02:45Thanks, Mum.
02:46Why do I wear One Day AccuVue contact lenses when it matters the most?
02:59Because One Day AccuVue are made mainly from water.
03:04So no matter where I go or what I do, I can hardly feel them.
03:09One Day AccuVue from Johnson & Johnson. No daily lens is more comfortable.
03:12Woo-hoo, woo-hoo!
03:17Woo-hoo, woo-hoo, woo-hoo!
03:25The Breakdown Specialists
03:55Welcome back to Silverstone, where there's a gap on the front row of the grid where Ivan Muller's car should be.
04:03He's in the pits watching the team at work after his engine dumped a long line of oil from Cops to Beckett's coming around onto the grid.
04:10Vicky can find out more.
04:12Ivan, you're still in your race suit. Are you confident that they can sort the problem out?
04:17Not really. Just in case I keep my helmet. We try something, but I'm not really optimistic.
04:25So what exactly happened? Because I know you've had a new engine for this race.
04:27I don't know exactly what's happening, but between the second race and the third race we had to change the clutch.
04:32And because the clutch is too long to change, we changed all the blocks, all the engine and the gearbox.
04:38And it looks like something is wrong on that engine, unfortunately.
04:43Okay, thank you very much for talking.
04:44Thompson has the front row all to himself as a result, while Reid and Kelvin Burt are the men in black on row two, with Colin Turkington and Dan Eves behind, each chasing a top-three finish.
04:56It's Seat versus Honda on the next two rows, but Matt Neill has a lighter car again and should fly us in race one, while Chilton was quick in race two.
05:0411th on the grid is Sean Watson-Smith.
05:07Michael Bentwood is 12th, but missing from 13th is Rob Collard, leaving a lonely Luke Hines.
05:14The Honda of James Kay and the Alfa Romeo of Carl Brees are on row eight.
05:18Harry Caraman and Justin Keane are next, but John George has got problems with the brakes on his Honda.
05:24On the final row, Charlie Butler-Henderson has it all to do after suffering that damaged steering in race two.
05:32It's time for round nine of the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship, the final race of the day at Silverstone.
05:38And away goes James Thompson, and what a brilliant start it is from him.
05:42Last year he struggled on the start, but this time he's made an excellent getaway.
05:46Reid is in second, Turkington in third, and watch out for Matt Neill and Dan Eves.
05:50Both of them going well as they come down towards Copse.
05:53Kelvin Bird's in the middle, Matt Neill gets through on the inside, and Plato, I think they're gaining a place or two on the inside as well.
05:59Last year, James Thompson couldn't buy a good start, but this year he's been impeccable.
06:04Look at all that cement dust making it very tricky to break.
06:07Where do they break? On the line, inside it, outside it? Very tricky.
06:11Yeah, I'm amazed, actually. It looks like they're all through that section safely.
06:15Now, what a great chance this is for Thompson.
06:17One point behind Muller coming into this race in championship terms, and he's out in front.
06:21Muller's out of the race. An ideal opportunity for Thompson to make a bit of a break in the championship.
06:27Second place for Reid. Third for Turkington, but for how much longer?
06:30There goes Rob Huff. That was a last-minute dive, but he's got through safely. Turkington gave him space.
06:36Well, Turkington had a chance there to repay his teammate Anthony Reid for punting him at that corner on the first lap of the first race,
06:42but he was a bit cautious and got jumped by Bissea.
06:45So Rob Huff moves up into third. Let's take another look from on board Collins' car.
06:49Collins just weighing up his options, and while he's thinking about it, Rob Huff, as we know already this year, straight down the inside.
06:56Up front, James Thompson with that little bit of a break from Anthony Reid and Rob Huff.
07:01Then Turkington chased by McNeil and Jason Plato. Tom Chilton leads the next group, but for the moment, Thompson's just got to try and concentrate on building the gap.
07:10Here comes McNeil, though. McNeil with a lighter Honda in this third race, and he's making good use of it to get past Colin Turkington and go chasing after the others.
07:19Now Jason Plato next on his list, but look how Anthony Reid has caught Thompson.
07:23This is the battle for the lead now, and Thompson has got problems because the MG is coming for him.
07:29It's down the inside. Reid goes ahead, but he's got a bit wide on the exit, and Thompson comes back.
07:34Well, Anthony Reid needs to watch Ivan Muller's passes into that corner because he just carried a bit too much speed into it and ran wide.
07:41Thompson switched back and, of course, has the outside run round the bend and now the inside into farm hairpins.
07:46Yeah, I think Thompson won't waste that opportunity. Reid, a little bit hung out to drive, but not too much.
07:52He's careful to get back in front of Huff.
07:54Just slotted in, which actually brake tested Rob Huff a little bit, and he's now coming under pressure from McNeil,
08:00who's Honda without the weight again, and suddenly looks, as you say, much like the car he had in the first race.
08:05But Reid's still attacking Thompson. Here they come in towards Briarie. Look at Thompson holding a tight line.
08:10Reid's on the grass. He hits Thompson, knocks him sideways, and he's through.
08:14Well, that's one way to take the lead. Anthony Reid in front now with Thompson with some bodywork damage.
08:19Back down to second place, and Thompson now with his mirrors filled by the Seat of Rob Huff.
08:24With Huff and Neil catching him up, I think Reid, he thought, it's time to get past,
08:28but he was on the grass to push Thompson wide, and that's not acceptable.
08:32Well, Reid's in front. Whatever it's taken, he's there as some of the marker posts go flying.
08:38And I wonder what the Vauxhall can make of that one.
08:40Thompson pushed down to second place. Take another look at it.
08:43Well, Thompson is defending. He's on the normal line. There's no overlap at all,
08:48and Anthony just drives into him across the grass, pushes him blatantly wide,
08:52and that's no way to gain a position.
08:55Now, we're riding on board with Thompson, and he's passed again.
08:57It is Rob Huff who gets past him, and that puts him into third place.
09:01Huff up into second. Thompson's down to third.
09:03He's struggling a little bit, and he's got to watch out because they're all ganging up on him.
09:07Now, Matt Neal's going for Thompson. We're on board with Jason Plazer.
09:09We've got Colin Turkington to our left, and it's all getting a bit tight.
09:13This is very tricky into here. You have to go across the grass.
09:17Plato's on the inside, though, and does gain a position.
09:20He gets past the MG of Turkington safely, but up front, it's Anthony Reid looking for his first win of the season.
09:27This could be his big opportunity, but just look at that line of cars behind.
09:32He's still at Huff in second place with James Thompson under increasing pressure,
09:37this time from Jason Plazer.
09:38Turkington's trying to get his place back by going around the outside.
09:41Plazer hits. Thompson, there's a bit of contact, and look, Chilton's nipped up the inside,
09:45and so has Carl Brees, and Dan Eves is going to do likewise.
09:49Thompson and Plazer really holding each other up there.
09:52Well, great opportunity for Tom Chilton. He saw the gap, got his foot down, and passed three cars in one go,
09:58and that was all because Thompson and Plato were scrapping over the position.
10:03Well, that's what touring cars is all about. It's so close and so competitive. Let's take another look.
10:08Plato gets too close to the back of Thompson, ends up pushing it wide,
10:11and because he's pushing it, he can't accelerate hard, so he does the right thing and backs off a little bit.
10:16Tom Chilton takes it straight round the inside, and Carl Brees goes with him.
10:20One little mistake, and you can lose two or three places just like that in touring cars.
10:26We're on board with Rob Huff. Now he's under pressure from Matt Neill.
10:29Matt Neill's got up the inside, and he's through, I think.
10:32Yes, he squeezes Huff out onto the grass, and now Huff, looking back from his car,
10:37we see Tom Chilton closing up very, very rapidly as we come through the left-hander at Ireland.
10:42Chilton goes alongside. He's on the grass to get past him.
10:44I don't think Huff knew he was there, but to his credit, Tom Chilton kept his foot down,
10:49kept his speed up, and he's taken that position.
10:52Hold it in tight, block past Huff, get the traction down and drive away from him, Tom.
10:56Yeah, he's up into third place now, and he started in tenth position on the grid, did Chilton.
11:01So this is quite a run from him, but Anthony Reid still leads this race.
11:05Matt Neill in second, there's Chilton in third.
11:07Rob Huff now pushed back down to fourth, and under pressure here from Carl Brees in the Alfa Romeo.
11:13Best run we've seen from the Alfa so far this year.
11:16Absolutely, that car has a great engine in it, and he's suffered in the first and second race by being knocked off,
11:21but now he's pushing, pushing Huff wide.
11:23Huff won't like that one bit. You wait for him to come back.
11:26We know he will, but Carl Brees is in front at the moment.
11:29Here comes Huff, bit of a shove, pushing wide, all bit more of a shove.
11:33They're both sideways. Plato's trying to get past, but Huff's gone up the inside for Wutker.
11:38Well, it's pretty aggressive stuff between those two.
11:40I wonder what Jason Plato makes of it all.
11:42He's now got a chance to get past Carl Brees.
11:45He should complete that move on the run down towards Kopp's corner,
11:49and Carl Brees is going to have to think about that and come back at them if possible,
11:53but still running very, very quickly.
11:55James Thompson right behind him.
11:58Dick Fett is from West Surrey Racing, still hoping for his first win,
12:01but this is on board Turkington.
12:03Yeah, he's running in 10th place, but no, he's not,
12:05because Michael Bentwood squeezes past him.
12:08That was through Bridge Corner.
12:09Kelvin Burt just ahead.
12:11Bentwood, who ended up buried in the gravel in the last race, if you remember,
12:15having a better run this time,
12:16and now he's got to try and get past that Vauxhall Astra of Kelvin Burt.
12:21It's all close behind them, though Luke Hines is in there too.
12:23Not having quite such a good weekend as he did at Brands Hatch last time out.
12:27Meanwhile, in the SEAT camp, there's a bit of inter-team rivalry going on.
12:31We're on board, Rob Huff, and here comes Jason Plato.
12:34Jason Plato will be keen to show his younger teammate,
12:37and here he does it, that he is the number one in the team,
12:40the former champion.
12:40That was a good move up the inside.
12:42Yeah, it was indeed.
12:43We've seen a few cars go through there.
12:45He's up into fourth place as a result.
12:46There are our top three, though.
12:48Reid, Matt Neal, and Tom Chilton.
12:50And look how close they all are now.
12:52Chilton's caught Neal,
12:53but Neal's right on the rear bumper of Anthony Reid.
12:56And there we are, riding on board the second-place Honda,
12:59and really close to Anthony Reid,
13:01almost hitting him as they come up towards the right-hander at Beckett.
13:05He can't get any closer than that,
13:06and now trying to get the traction,
13:08trying to get the speed out of the corner
13:10as he attempts to pass Anthony Reid.
13:12Reid's looking in his mirrors,
13:13trying to see where the orange car is.
13:15Chilton's on the inside as they come through Ireland.
13:17They're on the grass.
13:18Reid and Matt Neal are on the grass,
13:20and they've had to back off,
13:21and Tom Chilton gets past both of us,
13:24and the youngster is now leading his race.
13:26Well, fantastic luck for Tom Chilton.
13:28He's been gifted the lead,
13:30but what were Reid and Neal up to?
13:32Banging into each other at a very fast part of the track.
13:35Here's on board with Matt Neal.
13:36He's got a slight overlap.
13:37Reid's mirrors folded in.
13:39He probably can't see he's there,
13:40but he's leaning, leaning, leaning.
13:41They both end up on the grass at over 100 miles an hour.
13:45Well, that could have been very frightening indeed.
13:47Thankfully, they got both cars back on the tarmac safely,
13:50but it's Tom Chilton who now leads this race remarkably.
13:54Further back, you can see Matt Neal coming under pressure,
13:57and Matt, oh, he's in trouble there.
13:59Brakes not really working, or something's not working.
14:02I don't know whether he's just fired up or what.
14:03No front splitter on that car is not helping him
14:06with downforce and braking,
14:07and Matt trying ever so hard to make up for the loss.
14:10He's just going to go backwards now.
14:12Yeah, that's going to be tough for him.
14:14He's involved in another tussle here.
14:15Look, Carl Vries coming through,
14:17and in fact, Vries is racing with Matt's teammate, Dan Eves.
14:20You can just see a glimpse of the other orange Honda
14:23on the outside there,
14:24and they're side by side through Luffield,
14:26and Matt Neal, having already been involved
14:28in his own incident a moment ago,
14:30probably just waiting to see what happens between these two.
14:34Here we go.
14:34Dan Eves comes up the inside.
14:36A little tap on Vries,
14:38just running into the corner a bit hot.
14:39Vries holds it nicely,
14:41and now Dan's on the outside.
14:43His only option is to try and cut back
14:44if Matt Neal doesn't do it,
14:46which he does on the exit of Luffield.
14:48But Tom Chilton has driven superbly here.
14:51He's been in the right place at the right time.
14:53He's really thought about this race,
14:54and he's going to become the youngest ever winner
14:57of a British touring car race.
15:00Tom Chilton wins at Silverstone for Honda,
15:03and it's the first win of the season
15:05for the works Honda team.
15:07A brilliant performance from the 19-year-old,
15:10beating the veteran Anthony Reid.
15:11Third goes to Plato.
15:12Still action going on up here at Luffield.
15:14Kelvin Furt is a victim of all that.
15:17Carl Vries comes home in fifth place,
15:20chased by Dan Eves,
15:21with James Thompson behind.
15:24And here's how they finish.
15:25Then a Honda winning,
15:26an MG in second,
15:28a Seat in third.
15:29Vauxhall have got to be licking their wounds
15:30from that one.
15:31And just to confirm the progress
15:32of the new generation,
15:33Chilton's win is backed up
15:34by a best-ever finish for Carl Vries in fifth.
15:37Thompson picked up just four points
15:38for that seventh place,
15:39but for the first time,
15:40Tom Chilton grabs 16 for the win.
15:44Tom, I'm going to grab you.
15:48Tom, you are the youngest man ever
15:50to win a British touring car race.
15:51History in the making.
15:52How do you feel?
15:53Great.
15:54Were you worried at all
15:55that you might throw it off in excitement?
15:57No, not at all.
15:58Kept a cool head.
15:59Did the job for the boys.
16:00We needed it.
16:01Lovely.
16:01And, um, fantastic.
16:04There's drivers out there
16:05dishing it out just as much,
16:06you know,
16:07you've got to fight fire with fire.
16:09It's just bloody ridiculous.
16:09How do you see the incident with Matt Neill?
16:11Because he was on your right,
16:12he was on the outside
16:13when you both went off onto the grass.
16:15Yeah, I mean,
16:15he put me on the grass.
16:16I mean,
16:16I was ahead of him
16:17almost completely a car length
16:19and he banged into the back
16:21of my bumper
16:21and basically lost that race for me.
16:23I mean,
16:23MG should have won today.
16:25So I'm not happy at all.
16:26And plus,
16:26what he did on the slowing down lap
16:27is just totally out of order.
16:29Right,
16:30well,
16:30thank you for your word,
16:31thank you.
16:32You don't deserve a license.
16:33You're a f***ing out of order.
16:35That is bloody outrageous.
16:36Just trying people out there.
16:37You're really right, mate.
16:42Well,
16:43some aggro down in pit lane.
16:44Let's look back
16:45over what caused it.
16:46Another camera angle.
16:47You can see a slight overlap
16:49with Matt Neill
16:49and really is taking
16:50the wide line out
16:51and just,
16:52they both end up on the grass
16:53in a highly dangerous manoeuvre.
16:55But I think emotions
16:56are running high
16:57from previous instances
16:58this weekend.
16:59You can see Matt
17:00isn't going to lift
17:01and he's got to
17:02in the end
17:02when he's on the grass
17:03and they could so easily
17:04have both piled
17:05into the barriers.
17:06And there was another incident
17:07with James Thompson
17:09which I gather
17:09Reid has been docked
17:10ten seconds
17:11and therefore two places.
17:13And that penalty
17:13quite justified
17:14in my opinion
17:15for an unfair move
17:16on James Thompson.
17:19I'm angry,
17:20very angry to be fair.
17:21You know,
17:21at the end of the day
17:21leading the race legitimately
17:23and,
17:24you know,
17:25Reid,
17:25his usual trick
17:27of just punting us
17:27out of the way.
17:28He made no real effort
17:29to overtake us.
17:29He's just punted us round.
17:31You know,
17:32the bloke's a clown.
17:32He should be juggling balls
17:33in a circus somewhere.
17:35What are the authorities
17:36going to do with him
17:36before he hurts someone?
17:38Because someone
17:39is going to get seriously hurt
17:40because
17:40he's hit me
17:42this weekend
17:43in free practice.
17:45He's hit me in the race.
17:47He's hit other people
17:48in this weekend as well.
17:50Last weekend
17:50he was involved in stuff.
17:52I like Anthony
17:53but he's going to hurt someone.
17:55Coming in to Silverstone,
17:56Muller and Thompson
17:57were tied for the lead.
17:58Now the auctioneer
17:59has eased ahead
17:59but it could have been
18:00by many more points.
18:02Reid stays third,
18:03McNeil is fourth
18:03but Jason Plato's
18:04gained a spot
18:05at the expense
18:05of Luke Hines
18:06whose weekend started
18:07with the onboard Jacks
18:08failing in qualifying
18:09and it never picked up
18:10from there.
18:11It was all going so well
18:12for VX Racing
18:13in the first two races.
18:14No damaged cars
18:15and plenty of time
18:15for an engine change.
18:16That's where it started
18:17going downhill
18:18but with three races
18:19at every event
18:20we'll see plenty of dramas
18:21before the season's finished.
18:22Anthony Reid
18:23has opened up
18:24a useful lead
18:24in the independence battle
18:25but Dan Eaves
18:26has moved up to second
18:27narrowly ahead
18:28of his teammate.
18:29Well it's an exciting time
18:31at Silverstone this weekend
18:32because we've got
18:32our youngest ever winner
18:33in the British Touring Car Championship.
18:35It is Tom Chilton.
18:36Tom, three and a half years ago
18:38you were doing
18:38your GCSEs at school.
18:39How does it feel now
18:40to be doing
18:41winning British Touring Car races?
18:43It feels great.
18:44Exactly.
18:45I mean it was only
18:45three years ago
18:46I was at school
18:46and you know
18:48these guys are my heroes
18:49and to finally be here today
18:50and finally win
18:51it's just
18:52it's an incredible feeling
18:53and arena motorsport
18:54over the moon
18:55and so is my family.
18:56You were very sensible
18:58about where you were
18:58all the time
18:59through that race
19:00you really seemed
19:00to be aware
19:01of what everyone else
19:01was up to
19:02and you kept out of trouble.
19:03Yeah after Brands Hatch
19:05it was a bit of a shambles
19:06to be fair
19:06I was just trying
19:07to hammer my way
19:08through the field
19:08and I learned
19:09that that's not necessarily
19:10how to do it
19:11so I kept a really cool head
19:12and when I saw
19:13a couple of people
