00:00Dan, you drove a really great race and were very, very close to second there.
00:05Well, yeah, it was a bit tame. Plato had wing commander Huffy behind him, blocking his every move.
00:10I got a tow from Plato on the first lap and then I got a vacuum in front of the car, so it dropped me right back and Huffy had a run on me.
00:17There's some cloud cover overhead as we look forward to race three, but there are problems already for Stefan Hodgett.
00:23Now, he's just been out of the pit, making his way round onto the grid, and his wheel seems to have come off remarkably.
00:30So, the marshals are there trying to help him.
00:32Push it, push it, lads.
00:35Well, the boys and girls in Orange doing a fantastic job, all volunteers, of course, the marshals at British Circuit, but doing their utmost here to get Stefan back onto the grid.
00:45It came through on the radio that the rear wheel's fallen off, and it's very embarrassing, to say the least.
00:51But we don't know, we think the upright may be sheared or something's broken, a hub has broken or something.
00:56Well, it looks like the marshals have managed to cobble it together somehow.
00:59They've got the wheel on the car, and Stefan is going to try and make it back to the pit so that the team can put it on properly.
01:07Well, you have to say he's been well out of luck today.
01:10He started on pole for race two, got dumped into the gravel, and now this time losing a wheel on the outlap.
01:16Let's hope things improve in race three.
01:18We'll have all the action after the break.
01:20I wish I could share all the love that's in my heart.

05:12Getting you back on track.
05:19The cars are lined up for the final race of the day.
05:21Stefan Hodgitz is at the back and Tim is on the grid with some technical news.
05:26There may have been six weeks since the last race, but the pace of development in British touring cars doesn't stop.
05:31And one team that have pulled a rabbit out of the hat this weekend is the Team Computeach with Halford's Honda team.
05:36They've come up with a whole new front splitter spoiler arrangement.
05:40Everybody thought it was in the rules, but Vauxhall weren't happy.
05:43They demanded measurements to be made, and it turned out a compromise was made.
05:47This cutout was done just to keep it within the regulations.
05:50It's going fast, but people aren't happy.
05:52Let's go to Ben for the rest of the grid.
05:55Round 18 of the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship features two Seats on the front row for the first time in the history of the championship.
06:02The Toledos of Plato and Huff are now carrying heavy ballast, whilst the Honda of Eves and the Vauxhall of Thompson are a little less weighed down.
06:08Fifth place MacNeil won here last year.
06:10Ivan Muller's hoping to protect his five-point advantage, while the two MGs are hoping to convert their rapid pace into strong finishing positions.
06:17Tom Chilton climbed from 19th to 9th in race two.
06:20Sean Watson-Smith always races hard, and on row six, Michael Bentwood has Harrogate local James Kaye to contend with.
06:26Carl Brees and Luke Hines have won here at Croft in the past in Formula Renault and production-class touring cars, respectively.
06:32Butler Henderson and Richard Marsh just want solid finishes.
06:35Stefan Hodgett has made it onto the back of the grid, but Jason Hughes is missing after he lost a wheel.
06:41So, the two Seats now hoping to make the break in the third race of the day, as they did in race two.
06:48The lights go out, and it's a very even start between both Jason Plato and Rob Huff.
06:52Everyone else gets away cleanly, too, but who's going to lead into the first corner, Clairvaux?
06:57As we look at it, Jason Plato on the left, Rob Huff on the right, side by side, turning in.
07:01Rob Huff goes around the outside, gets in front of Plato.
07:04Plato defending second place from James Thompson.
07:06Ivan Muller also trying to go through as Carl Brees gets into trouble through the gravel, but I think he might be able to rejoin.
07:13Muller was trying to go around the outside of one of the Hondas there at Hawthorne, but I don't think he quite managed to do it.
07:20And it all means that Rob Huff is our race leader.
07:22Can Rob aim for his first win in touring cars, as he said early on?
07:26Just look at this bunch, though, ganging up on McNeil.
07:29It's Colin Turkington and Anthony Reid with Sean Watson-Smith and Tom Chilton all playing the game.
07:34Well, we've seen accidents at the first corner in every race so far, so that was either a very good move by Rob Huff or a tactical decision by Seat to avoid any accidents.
07:43Well, maybe we'll find out later on board now with Tom Chilton.
07:47He's just gone past Sean Watson-Smith, turns into sunny in.
07:50Oh, he got it all sideways there.
07:51Big moment there.
07:53Oh, and Watson-Smith comes through as one of the marker posts goes flying.
07:57And also in trouble there, Stefan Hodgett.
07:59Well, I think he might have lost a wheel again.
08:00And also his teammate, Charlie Butler-Henderson's got a puncture to the left front.
08:05So we've lost those two Team Short-Term cars on the first lap.
08:08That's what happened to Charlie Butler-Henderson.
08:10He tangled with James Kaye.
08:11Well, disaster for Team Short-Term with both cars out on this first lap.
08:15And there's a very disgruntled Charlie walking back to the pits.
08:18But the contact with James Kaye was what resulted in the puncture.
08:21Here's Thompson up front, looking for a possible way past Plato.
08:25Putting Plato under a lot of pressure, but getting turned around himself.
08:28Yeah, it's Dan Eves trying to get past him.
08:31And Dan looking pretty aggressive in his attempts there.
08:33But he's got to be careful because Ivan Muller now is on his outside.
08:37So the Vauxhalls, which have not featured as strongly here at Croft as we've seen elsewhere,
08:42now beginning to attack.
08:43And Muller's got round the outside of Dan Eves.
08:46He's into fourth place.
08:47That was a good move by Muller.
08:48It's not easy to get round the outside there.
08:50Eves must have given him a little bit of racing room while he just felt for his car
08:54to make sure it was OK after that contact with Thompson.
08:56Now, are the Vauxhalls going to go after those Seats and really begin to make a fight of it?
09:02Because Rob Huff is breaking away from his teammate, Jason Plato.
09:05Then there's a little get back to Thompson and Ivan Muller.
09:08Oh, and a bang there on the side of their McNeil's car from Colin Turkington.
09:13As Turkington squeezes through and McNeil's got Anthony Reid right behind.
09:17And damage, I'm afraid, to the front of Parikh Haramon's car.
09:19Let's see what happens.
09:20Parikh's run wide here at Tower and got on the grass.
09:23He's got James Caire alongside him.
09:25The car bounces over the uneven grass and the front splitter digs in,
09:29rips the spoiler underneath it.
09:31But it's the Vauxhalls and the MGs now running lighter in this race
09:34that should be able to hunt down the Seats,
09:36ballasted up after their successive race two.
09:39Colin Turkington won race three at Mondello last time out.
09:42We're riding on board with the Irishman now.
09:45I wonder if he's going to move up the order.
09:46That car's looking very stable.
09:47Oh, but he's hit!
09:48Dan Eves!
09:49Well, he clouts the rear quarter of Dan Eves' car.
09:52Dan had no chance at all.
09:54Well, this is on board with Dan,
09:56and he's already turning into the corner when he gets hit.
09:58And absolutely a passenger there.
10:01And Turkington really committed to the inside,
10:03but nowhere near getting an overlap.
10:05And I'm afraid, Colin, that's going to be a fine at the very least,
10:08if not anything more.
10:10Matt Neal also got past him,
10:12but look at Thompson putting Plato under pressure here now for second.
10:15Who the f*** is that behind pushing me like a f*** idiot?
10:19No, Rob, to sort this out of the way,
10:21so I'm going to get him f***ed off here.
10:23Jason, it's Mark.
10:24We are telling Rob to slow down.
10:26He should open the door for you at the Heffin the next time.
10:29Should open the door for the Heffin the next time.
10:32Ah, interesting stuff going on here, Tim.
10:34The Seat team working hard.
10:36That's Mark Busfield on the radio,
10:38and Eddie Hinkley, the engineer, working out some team tactics.
10:41And what a shame for Rob Huffin.
10:43He's got a good lead.
10:43And Jason Plato, not fancying, making a race of it, wants some help.
10:47Now, look at this.
10:48Tom Chilton just running into the back.
10:50Well, I think he got hit by Anthony Reid perhaps there.
10:52I don't know if there was contact or not on the way in for Chilton,
10:56but this is a three-way dice that's been going on for a couple of laps now.
11:00Sean Watson-Smith, Anthony Reid.
11:01Look at how tatty the front end of that MG is looking.
11:03And Tom Chilton right behind.
11:06There, however, is Jason Plato getting a little closer to the back of Rob Huff.
11:10Now, I wonder if Rob is going to let him through.
11:13As we gather, he's been requested.
11:15Not easy to do that here at Croft.
11:18Huff doors happen.
11:18Yes, he's left the door wide open.
11:20But he's got to be careful because Thompson might go through into second.
11:24And as they come out, side by side, Rob's got to try and fend off Thompson.
11:28He does just do it.
11:29Well, Huff giving up that place, that hard-earned lead that he had.
11:34And he knew if he stayed wide, he'd have the right-hand side for this first corner.
11:38It would be fairly safe.
11:39But he's now going to have to do the job of defending the back of Jason Plato's car.
11:43Yes, and Ivan Muller lost out there.
11:45Look, both MacNeil and Turgenton have got past him.
11:48This is what happened.
11:48There was a bit of a nerve as they came round the hairpin on board with MacNeil.
11:52He went down one side.
11:54I think Colin Turgenton was going down the other side at the same moment.
11:57And that means that Ivan Muller's gone from fourth to sixth.
12:00That's the slowest corner in British motorsport.
12:03And the ideal line is quite wide.
12:04But you can see the danger of doing that.
12:07It opens the door up to a little nudge or an overtake on the inside.
12:11So Jason Plato now leads this race.
12:13Rob Huff obeying team orders.
12:15Dropping back to second place.
12:16But he's got to watch out because James Thompson's not far away.
12:19And this is the man on the move.
12:21Again, it's Colin Turgenton.
12:22Now remember, when he was behind the other orange Honda of Dan Eves,
12:25he gave it a little bit of a nerve down at this section of track.
12:28I wonder if we're going to see a repeat performance as they come through Barcroft.
12:32Then on the brakes, the car's unstable.
12:34But that MG, I have to say, doesn't look unstable.
12:36It looks fantastic through there.
12:38Well, Turgenton very nearly giving the same dose of treatment to MacNeil that he gave to Eves.
12:43But the other right, the MG looked super stable through those turns and twists and on the brakes.
12:49Now we're riding with Tom Chilton once again.
12:51Anthony Reid trying to attack Sean Watson-Smith.
12:54Gets down the inside.
12:55Watson-Smith cuts back on the inside himself.
12:57And they slow each other down.
12:59Giving Tom Chilton a great run here out of town.
13:01But where can he go?
13:02They're coming up towards the Esses.
13:04The road is filled with Reid and with Watson-Smith.
13:06And Tom tries to go around the outside.
13:08Right, no way.
13:09There was never a way through there.
13:11And poor Tom's now ended up out on the dirt, running on all the marbles.
13:14He'll have muckled over his tyres.
13:16He should have held back and tried to get a run at Watson-Smith after the Esses.
13:20So Tom Chilton perhaps getting a little lesson from two very experienced touring car campaigners.
13:26Reid with the damage to the front of his car.
13:28But still going quickly.
13:29Take another look.
13:29Yes, Chilton finds himself with no way to get to the apex at the second part.
13:34And has to run out wide.
13:35And it's very rough out there with a lot of debris.
13:38So his tyres are now dirty and he'll lose grip.
13:41Matt Neill under pressure still from Colin Turkington.
13:44Ivan Muller, who lost those two places earlier on.
13:47Still keeping on terms with them.
13:48Turkington there.
13:49Oh, and Matt Neill's in trouble.
13:50That was why Turkington suddenly had to move out of the way.
13:53Matt Neill slowing down.
13:54And he's coasting off to the side of the circuit.
13:57Offline, onto the grass, to the nearest Marshall.
13:59And that looks like a pretty catastrophic failure of something on the car.
14:04His dad looks at the monitor.
14:06It's all over for Matt Neill.
14:08Yes, Father Steve with a Paddington hard stare at the monitor there as he sees his car retire.
14:13But so not going to be the day for Team Computeach with Halfords.
14:17But back to Kirkington.
14:18Look how stable that car looks on the brakes.
14:20And now he's putting Thompson under pressure.
14:22Thompson's run wide.
14:23Oh, that's not something you see too often.
14:25James Thompson, a slight mistake.
14:27He just didn't quite have the stability with the car.
14:29Through the far section.
14:30Turkington takes advantage.
14:32Oh, and Thompson trying to come back at him.
14:34And the S's, no way.
14:36Through there.
14:37And Turkington, therefore, is up into third place.
14:40Now that we've lost Matt Neill, it means that Thompson is fourth.
14:43And Ivan Muller is fifth.
14:45So from Thompson's point of view in the championship, he'll be sorry to have lost Matt Neill from that.
14:49And it was a good buffer.
14:50Here's the replay.
14:51Pressure bought to bear on Thompson through the vast series of corners.
14:55He just runs out wide.
14:56Open store nicely to Turkington.
14:58The MG's on the move.
15:01Get Rob to just back a bit.
15:02Give me a couple of seconds.
15:03Jason Plato on the radio again and just asking the team to ask Rob have to drop back and give him a bit of help so that Turkington doesn't get too close.
15:13Jason certainly got this one under control, isn't he?
15:15We're on board with Tom Chilton once more in the Honda Civic.
15:19And still Anthony Reid and Sean Watson-Smith lie just ahead of him.
15:22Luke Hines is behind him.
15:24Broad Luke Hines who stalled at the start of the second race.
15:27And really, the race weekend's gone wrong from there.
15:29And Chilton suddenly making a lunge for it.
15:31Hits Sean Watson-Smith.
15:33Well, we've seen it so many times at that corner, but that one was never on.
15:37And it looked like a lock-up from Tom Chilton trying to get the car stopped.
15:41We've seen him lock his brakes up a little bit before.
15:43Maybe he's got too much brakes on the front, but he's never going to get past.
15:46Here we see it.
15:47Dives up the inside, locks the brakes up twice and then hits Roxy-Smith.
15:52He does well to save it.
15:54So a bruising encounter between those three cars all race long.
15:57But look at Jason Plato and Rob Huff who's obeyed team orders.
16:00Look, he has dropped away from Jason Plato.
16:02And he's now busy trying to defend from Colin Turkington.
16:05And Huff gets sideways.
16:07Good car control.
16:08But is he going to hold second place or is Colin Turkington going to snatch second?
16:11He's very close to it.
16:13Well, poor Rob Huff.
16:14You've got to feel for him.
16:14He had a big lead.
16:16He gave up his first place for Plato.
16:18Now he's had to drop back and incur the wrath of Turkington.
16:21I think he should get Plato's bonus money this race.
16:24Well, Turkington's running out of opportunities to get past Rob Huff because we're into the closing stages now.
16:29And as long as Huff defends into the hairpin, he should hold on to second.
16:33It looks like we're going to be on for another Sayat 1-2.
16:36And there we come again.
16:38Well done, everyone.
16:40Woo-ha!
16:41And Jason Plato is delighted, as he has every right to be.
16:47What great teamwork this weekend we've seen from Sayat Sport UK.
16:51And Colin Turkington had to settle for third.
16:54Plato becomes the first driver this year to win two races at the same event.
16:58And surely his race one tactics will soon be copied by others.
17:00Rob Huff has enjoyed his most successful weekend of the series.
17:03And Thompson reduced his points deficit to Muller by two.
17:06Anthony Reid took fastest lap for the third time in three races, but collected just six points.
17:13Great result.
17:14And that makes up a little bit for Mondello, where technically I had the third race in the bag.
17:19And the safety car came out.
17:20I mean, it's just one of those things.
17:22Those things happen.
17:22But today we had the pace and we worked very well.
17:25And all the engineers did a great job on my car.
17:27It was improved again in the third race.
17:29And, yeah, it's a cracking team, as Sayat Sport UK.
17:33Jason helped me out a lot by sacrificing at the first corner for me.
17:36You know, we had a bit of a plan that, you know, if we got even starts off the grid,
17:42then he'd just hold back a little bit, let me through.
17:45And then, obviously, the favour was returned a little bit later.
17:48The car was really strong, just as Anthony's was in the first race.
17:51So it took some time to get past some of the Hondas.
17:55And I just, unfortunately, got onto the tail of the two Seat guys a lot were too late.
18:00But third's good.
18:02I'm pleased with that.
18:04The seesaw scenario continues.
18:05After three hard-fought races, Thompson closed on Muller by just one point.
18:09Anthony Reid had expected more after his scintillating pace in qualifying.
18:12But his nearest challenger for third is no longer Matt Neill.
18:15It's Jason Plato.
18:16In the team's championship, the top two cars from each team score.
18:20And that means Sayat Sport UK took the team honours at Croft
18:22and moved ahead of Computeach Racing with Halfords for third.
18:26Despite the two wins, Sayat were outscored at Croft by Vauxhall and the manufacturers
18:30because they have three cars contributing to their tally as opposed to Sayat's two cars.
18:35In the Harriers Euros Independent Trophy, Anthony Reid and Colin Turkington scored
18:39the same number of points over the three races.
18:41And they remain one and two in the class, with Matt Neill and Dan Eves third and fourth.
18:46Right, well, I've decided the driver of the day this weekend at Croft belongs to Rob Huff
18:51and it's partly because it's been his best meeting of the year if you take all three races together
18:54and partly because you've been such a good team player today, Rob.
18:57You've really lived up for the team, haven't you?
18:59Yes.
19:00Just talk us through it a bit.
19:01It's been a great weekend for me. There's no doubt about that at all.
19:04The car has been quick, certainly in the last two races, as we proved.
19:09But, yeah, we're here as a team.
19:10There's not one single person in the team we could work without with.
19:13And at the end of the day, Jason and I have pretty much got the easy part,
19:15going out there and driving what the team are providing us with.
19:20So it's, you know, there's a great atmosphere in our team.
19:23We have a lot of fun.
19:24And as we've proved, we work very, very well together.
19:27So it's going really well.
19:29And it was all clean racing from your point of view.
19:30I know one or two instances this year you've been involved in.
19:32At this time, it was all nice and clean, wasn't it?
19:34Yeah, I thought there was a scratch on my car.
19:35I mean, certainly on the front end of it anyway.
19:38Tom gave me a little nudge on the first corner going in.
19:41And then gave me a pretty hefty thump from behind going into the hairpin.
19:45But, you know, that's racing.
19:47You know, as people say, a small gap at 100 miles now closes up very, very quickly.
19:52So it's, but, you know, I can't complain about today.
19:54I've worked away with about 33 points of fifth and two seconds.
19:58It's been tremendous.
19:58Well done.
19:59Many congratulations.
20:00You are our worthy winner of the driver of the day.
20:02That first win can't be far off.
20:04I think it's only around the corner.
20:05I think we've proved that today.
20:06You know, it's definitely there.
20:08It's just a case of picking the right moment.
20:10Well done.
20:11That's just about it from the touring cars here at Croft.
20:14But stay tuned for Speed Sunday because guests include Johnny Herbert and Perry McCarthy.
20:18They'll be live in the studio.
20:19And following that is the latest instalment of the all-female motor racing series, Formula
20:24Woman.
20:25So there's more great racing to look forward to today.
20:27And there's more in a week's time where we'll be live at the next round of the British
20:31Touring Cars from Knock Hill in Scotland.
20:33We've seen how strong Sayats have been here at Croft.
20:36Can they repeat that sort of performance around the twists and turns, ups and downs of the
20:40Knock Hill circuit?
20:41I think it might be a bit more difficult for them.
20:43I think Vauxhall will come back strongly.
20:45And, of course, James Thompson still wants to close up that little gap to Ivan Mudder in
20:49the championship.
20:50Plenty to watch out for there.
20:51Don't forget Scotsman Anthony Reid had his first win of the season here at Croft.
20:55And he'll be able to do more of the same at Knock Hill.
20:57Join us next week for more British Touring Car action.
20:59.
21:04.
21:06.
21:15.
