04:12where we're looking forward to now the second touring car race of the day.
04:16James Thompson was the winner of the first race.
04:18And I have to say, Tim, that he looked pretty dominant.
04:21It was a fantastic start from pole position.
04:23And then he almost made them look silly for the rest of it.
04:25No question.
04:26It was Muller who was having to do all the fighting.
04:28He was fending off in the early part of the race from Turkington.
04:32And really, it made the job very easy for Thompson.
04:34He's very happy with his car.
04:36Everything's going well.
04:37Just at a crucial point of the season.
04:39It is crucial in terms of the championship as well.
04:41Because James Thompson now has a nine-point lead in the series,
04:45thanks to that one.
04:45It's very, very handy as he looks towards trying to wrap up this title.
04:50Let's just look at the table.
04:51Ivan Muller back on 220 points.
04:53That nine-point gap to James Thompson.
04:56Look at the gap behind, though.
04:57Because Anthony Reid, Jason Plato and Matt Neal
05:00are all separated by just five points.
05:02It's a big battle for that second place.
05:04But as we've seen so often in the second and third races of the day,
05:07those positions can really be changed.
05:09And that'll affect the points.
05:10And I think Anthony Reid's looking very good for this second race.
05:13Now, Anthony actually had an engine problem, we gather, in the first race.
05:16He did drop back to finish down in eighth place.
05:18But I think it was a combination of looking towards this second race
05:21and also having an engine problem.
05:23So he's had a new engine, which hasn't been run on circuit as yet.
05:26But let's go down to Vicky.
05:27I think she's now on the grid with everybody.
05:32James, it's been quite a while since you won.
05:34You must be pretty chuffed with that.
05:35Yeah, made up.
05:36So I've forgotten what the winner's trophy looked like.
05:39Don't mind the top step of the podium.
05:42Now, you're carrying maximum ballast and it is incredibly hot here.
05:45How will it affect your performance, do you think?
05:48It's going to make the performance of the car obviously slower.
05:51The fact that it's so hot only adds to that.
05:53But the way the car's been running this weekend has been absolutely fantastic.
05:56And, you know, my main aim really is to make sure I keep Ivan, you know, stop him taking the points.
06:03Now we're leading the champion.
06:05It's important now that there's a damage limitation in this second race.
06:09Now, you are nine laps ahead now provisionally.
06:12But, I mean, how easy is it to lose those?
06:15Well, the way the race format is now, you know, you gain some, you lose some.
06:21We've seen it all year.
06:23You know, twice this year I've been taken out of the second race and had to start the third race last.
06:29So, I'm very aware of that.
06:31I think the pace we've got this weekend, let's get through this one, hopefully get a good result.
06:35And then maybe lose a bit of weight and then try and win the third race.
06:40Yes or no, do you think you can score a podium here?
06:44It depends on the others up front.
06:45I mean, with Reedy up there, you know, you never know.
06:50It has to be said, everybody's been a bit naughty towards the end of the season.
06:53Historically, it says it's going to be a bit of a bun fight, to be honest with you.

11:17And James Thompson, who won the earlier race today

11:21Luke Hines, his teammate
11:22His younger teammate in his first season
11:25In the top level of Touring Cars
11:26Starts from pole position alongside him
11:28Is the very experienced James Kay
11:31A former Independence Champion
11:33A former Production Class Champion
11:34He's never won the outright title
11:36He's not going to win it this year
11:37But he could be on for a race win here
11:39As they set off on their formation lap
11:41Good getaway from Luke Hines
11:43But everybody just using this moment
11:45To get some tyre temperature
11:46And we're going to see Michael Bentwood
11:49Coming out of the pit lane
11:50Because they did manage to get his car ready in time
11:53To form up on the grid
11:55When they came around out of the pits
11:56But they have prepared it in time
11:58To get him onto the back of the grid
11:59And that's good news for Michael Bentwood
12:02He had an incident with Carl Breeze
12:03At the end of the first race
12:04But thankfully he's on circuit
12:07And he's joining the grid
12:08So let's look at the line-up then
12:09On the front row we've got Luke Hines
12:11The youngster's had one race win this year
12:12And James Kay in the Synchro Motorsport Honda alongside
12:16On the second row of the grid
12:17Another good battle coming up
12:19Because on there we've got Anthony Reid and Rob Collard
12:21And Anthony dropped back in that first race
12:24Just to make sure of a good starting position for the second race
12:26Rob Collard's the reigning Independent Champion
12:28Then behind them we've got Dan Eves
12:30And Ivan Muller
12:32So we've really got to keep an eye on the Frenchman here
12:34He dropped to fifth place in that first race
12:36He's now nine points behind James Thompson
12:38But remember Thompson starts even further back
12:40Colin Turkington and Tom Chilton on the next row
12:43Tom was flying in that first race
12:45He found a way to get past Ivan Muller
12:46Looking very confident as well I have to say
12:49Here this weekend
12:50Then on row number five
12:51The top two from the first race
12:53McNeil now carrying 30 kilos of ballast
12:56And James Thompson starts tenth
12:58Carrying the maximum ballast
12:59Plus 42 kilos
13:00It'll be hard work to get away
13:02And right behind him
13:03Jason Plato and Rob Huff
13:05Are now running with light cars
13:07Because they didn't get a decent result in the first race
13:09They can really go for it
13:10No ballast aboard those cars at all
13:13Behind them we've got Jason Hughes
13:15We've got a couple of people
13:16That have been moved to the back of the grid
13:18John George lines up alongside Jason Hughes there
13:21In 14th place
13:22In next up 15th place
13:24We've got Michael Bentwood
13:25Although actually I think Michael will have to
13:27Start at the back after coming out of the pit
13:29Stefan Hodgett's car
13:30Well they've been busily trying to repair that
13:33And get it ready for this second race
13:35I'm not sure they've actually managed to achieve that
13:37I don't think they have
13:38He'll be out for race number three
13:40But not for race number two
13:42Richard Marsh and Fareed Caravan in the Proton
13:44Towards the back there as well
13:46And Carl Brees and Sean Watson-Smith have been put to the back
13:50Carl Brees because he's had an engine change
13:52And Sean Watson-Smith because he was told off
13:54For the incident involving Stefan Hodgett
13:56That's the line-up then Tim
13:58What can we look forward to here?
14:00Well a great scrap at the front
14:01Certainly Luke Hines will be desperate to get a good result under his belt now
14:04Don't forget it's contract time coming up
14:07And he wants to make the most of his year this year
14:09He's had one win as you say
14:10James Kay showed some great pace just recently
14:13Particularly at Brands Hatch
14:15But don't discount that man Anthony Reid
14:17So let's see what happens then
14:19It is the 22-year-old Luke Hines on pole position
14:22Son of world karting champion Martin Hines
14:25Who manages quite a few top drivers
14:27As they try and move up through the single-seater ranks
14:29But alongside him is one of the veterans of the championship
14:32That is James Kay
14:34The 40-year-old from Yorkshire
14:36Who had a great result at Brands last time out
14:38When he finished in fourth place
14:39What can he do this time?
14:41Watch out for Rob Collard on the second row
14:42He always loves this Snetterton circuit
14:45Always seems to go well here
14:46But Anthony Reid and the MG
14:47I think could be one to watch too
14:49In the black MG on the second row
14:51Looking to produce some fireworks
14:53Dan Eves and Ivan Muller right behind them as well
14:55And Muller desperate to close up the points gap to Thompson
14:58So we're all set for the second race today
15:02Here's Snetterton, the lights go out
15:03Who makes the best start?
15:04Good start from Rob Collard
15:05And from Anthony Reid
15:07But Luke Hines gets away from pole position
15:10The youngster doing a fantastic job there
15:12And it's Anthony Reid who's moving up into second
15:14Everybody's punching behind
15:16It's all getting a bit close there
15:17McNeil in the middle of that pack
15:19Colin Turkington right there too
15:20Thompson's not away very well
15:22I saw Plato already ahead of Thompson
15:24And James Cain down the inside
15:26It's getting a bit close as they go through Sier
15:28And Rob Huff comes out
15:30And so does John George
15:31John George on the grass
15:32Well it's already kicked off in this second race hasn't it?
15:35It only took two corners
15:36Somebody was off in the first corner
15:38And then two more at the second
15:40It was actually off the start line
15:41And that's Richard Marsh
15:42He spun out in the first race
15:44Let's hope he can get going
15:45A great start by Luke Hines
15:47And Reid was able to slot through from the second row and get there
15:50But it was actually for the outside of the front row
15:52James Cain that got a miserable start
15:54And that blocked off Collard as well
15:56And everybody on the outside of the grid
15:58Was slow away
15:59Well I have to say
16:01Ivan Muller is in pretty good shape here
16:03In terms of championship wise
16:04Because Thompson's mired down in ninth position at the moment
16:07He didn't get off the line particularly well
16:10Luke Hines as you say
16:11Making a good start
16:12Muller in third place
16:13Rather than behind Anthony Reid
16:15And then right behind them
16:17They've got to watch out
16:18For the likes of Colin Turkington
16:19Who's in that group
16:20But look for James Thompson
16:21Look how far back he is
16:22With the white strip across his windscreen
16:24Moving to the outside here
16:25Rob Collard
16:26Who also had a fairly disastrous first lap
16:28Because he started on the second row
16:30And Thompson with a lot of work to do here
16:32Well at the moment
16:33It's definitely advantage Buller in the championship isn't it
16:36He's got a great start
16:37So heading round Sear corner now
16:42And Luke Hines breaking away
16:43With Anthony Reid in second
16:45Coming under pressure from Ivan Muller
16:47But here now comes Dan Eves
16:49Teammate to MacNeil
16:50In the competition racing with Halfords Honda
16:53And Dan who's had some great runs this year
16:55He was really out of luck at Brands Hatch
16:57He had a fire and a puncture
16:58A horrible time there
16:59Look at Plato in the background too
17:01Plato currently running in the eighth position
17:03In car number 11
17:05And Plato also making some progress
17:07But Thompson stuck down in tenth place
17:09Really needs to get on with it
17:11Carrying on to ballast
17:12But it's proving to be hard work
17:13Yes from the back of the grid also
17:17Sean Watson-Smith has had a good run
17:19He's up to 13
17:20But look at Plato
17:21He's charging
17:22That was a good inside pass through Cora on Turkington
17:24Yeah that was a great move from Plato
17:27Getting past the MG
17:28And Plato could be one to watch
17:30Remember that car's now running quite light
17:32So he's not got ballast to worry about
17:34The top cars come across the line
17:36Then it's still Luke Hines from Anthony Reid
17:38You're looking from on board the Frenchman
17:40Ivan Muller
17:41Who knows he's got a chance here
17:43Of closing that points gap
17:44Back to James Thompson
17:45They've been separated by so little all year
17:48And here's an opportunity for him
17:49To close the gap back up
17:51That was opened in race one
17:52Through Sear Corner
17:53They come one of the slowest corners
17:55On this track
17:56About 60 miles an hour through there
17:57But then building up
17:58Accelerating up to over
18:00130 miles an hour
18:02140 miles an hour
18:03As they head down
18:04To the braking point for the S's
18:05It's a great battle
18:07And Luke Hines is doing a good job
18:08Actually so far this race
18:10He's made a good start
18:11He's got into a rhythm
18:12And he's got the opportunity
18:13To build on that lead if he can
18:15But don't just count
18:16Well Reid has closed up
18:18Dramatically on that lap
18:19And straight away as I say that
18:20He's on his bumper
18:21Now we'll see what Hines has made of
18:23Yeah Luke Hines must have made
18:25A little mistake somewhere
18:26But Reid can't afford too much
18:28Because Muller's on the inside
18:29Oh a corp
18:30A touch
18:31Surely there was a touch
18:32Reid was sideways
18:33Muller's now got the inside line
18:35And he's going to take
18:36Second place here

18:39Muller goes second
18:40It's still Luke Hines leading
18:41But the Frenchman's now

18:44And Thompson is still down in ten

20:05Well it could well be
20:06That there's a lot of mud and dirt
20:07Down at that test
20:08There's always a lot of action there
20:09These cars do take a lot of kerb
20:11And a lot of grass
20:12And this time of the year
20:13With it all dry
20:14It brings on a lot of dust and dirt
20:15That's just enough
20:16Well we're seeing a replay here
20:18Of the Kay and Eves incident
20:20Kay gets up inside
20:21Pushes Eves out
20:22Just as Matt Neill's turning in
20:24And it taps Eves into a spin
20:26Just too many cars
20:27Trying to go for the same piece of road
20:29This is the onboard from Matt Neill
20:30You can see in front
20:31There's James Kay up the inside
20:33Matt's just waiting to take a nice line
20:35Through the corner
20:36And all of a sudden
20:37Eves is pushed out towards him
20:39Well all happening at Seer Corner
20:43But in the meanwhile
20:43Luke Hines is still the race leader
20:45Despite running wide here last time
20:47He keeps it on track this time
20:48Anthony Reid in second
20:50Yvonne Muller
20:51Having worked his way into second
20:53Now back in third
20:53Then it's Turkington
20:54Then it's Plato
20:55Yes that's right
20:56Jason Plato is now fifth
20:58Ahead of James Kay
20:59Rob Collard
21:00And James Thompson
21:01Has taken advantage a bit of some of those dramas
21:03He's now up to eighth place
21:05Well these guys having drive
21:07Almost like rally drives aren't they
21:08The track conditions are changing every lap
21:10With the amount of debris they're bringing on
21:12But through it all as you say
21:14Plato and Muller working their way through
21:16So Luke Hines comes across the line this time
21:19To complete his fifth lap
21:20So far so good for the Youngster
21:22Looking for his second win of the season
21:23But Anthony Reid
21:25Shadow is his every move
21:27Then Yvonne Muller
21:27Then Colin Turkington in fourth place
21:29Jason Plato has moved up
21:32A lot of places already
21:33And in fact Plato has the fastest lap in this race
21:35It was set on lap number three
21:37Won it 12.510
21:39So it's Plato now
21:41Who's putting the pressure
21:42With that yellow stripe across his windscreen
21:44He's putting the pressure on the Youngster
21:46Colin Turkington
21:47Well Plato and Seat were saying
21:49They were going to struggle this meeting
21:50Having had a 25 kilo weight penalty
21:54Put on their base weight
21:55But it doesn't look like they are
21:56Granted he's had some weight taken off
21:58But look at the speed of that car
21:59As he goes past Turkington there
22:01Down the straight
22:02He's now running on his standard base weight
22:04And clearly the car's got great pace
22:06Yeah he's now in the fourth position
22:08And really there was nothing Turkington could do
22:11About the speed of the Seat on that occasion
22:13The other Seat running in tenth place
22:15That's Rob Huff
22:16But just a little bit at the back of this group
22:19Just saw him go through
22:20There is Plato
22:21And Plato is catching Muller
22:23Now
22:23Grudge match or what
22:25Yvonne Muller and Jason Plato
22:26They had a coming to get that course across the grass
22:29McNeil by the way there
22:30Just coming through Russell
22:31So he's lost a bit more time
22:33But they hit each other in France last time out
22:35These two
22:36They hit each other in the past
22:37And back in 2001
22:38When Plato won the championship
22:40They came together here at Snetterton
22:42And the S's both were flying across the grass
22:44They both survived it
22:45But here comes Plato now
22:47Challenging Muller
22:47Muller comes across
22:49But Plato's got the inside line
22:50Nothing he can do
22:52And Plato's into third place
22:53Well that time it was very clean
22:55But maybe it's not quite over yet
22:57As Muller fights back
22:58But he's on the outside
22:59Certainly Muller ran into riches a little bit quick
23:01That's twice he's done that this meeting
23:03Once in qualifying
23:04Once in the first race
23:05Plato the opportunity
23:06Straight up the inside
23:07Now it's a battle of the late breakers
23:09Into the S's
23:10This is going to be so close
23:11You can't go around the outside
23:12Muller's done it
23:13Great late breaking
23:14The touring car's slightly better brakes
23:17Than he sees since cars
23:18And Muller needed every little ounce of braking there
23:20To get around the outside of Plato
23:22So he'll have to start that fight back again
23:24Wonderful race in between these two champions
23:27Muller the reigning champion
23:28Plato the 2001 champion
23:30And in those days when they were teammates
23:33They were great friends
23:34But the rivalry there I have to say
23:36Was very clean as they came through the S's
23:38Plato did not push Muller out
23:40As they came through the corner
23:41It was a fair move
23:42And Thompson you can see
23:44Still struggling with the ballast
23:46That he's carrying
23:47He's right behind Rob Collard
23:48Thompson still running in eighth place
23:50And aware that Ivan Muller's
23:52Offer scoring some more useful points
23:55We're looking at the back of Matt Neal's car
23:56From Tom Chilton's Honda
23:58And Tom of course had a great run
24:00In the first race of the day
24:01He finished third
24:02Now he's a bit stuck down there
24:04Plato and Muller are at it again
24:05And trying to get in there
24:06Is Turkington
24:07Every lap through Riches and Interseer
24:11Seems to be there's a lot of action
24:12Muller was holding this whole gang of cars up
24:15And it's resulted in Plato
24:16Getting back through into the lead
24:18And this time he's got enough of a gap on Muller
24:20He should be able to break and stay in front
24:22So Jason Plato this time
24:24Is up into third place
24:25Ivan Muller cannot challenge
24:27Once again into the S
24:28I don't think
24:29There's no room here
24:30Almost touching the back
24:32Bumper of the say
24:33And how much closer can the Frenchman get
24:35But behind him is the black MG
24:37Of Colin Turkington
24:38Then a tiny gap back to James K

24:41And James Thompson
24:43And Muller needs to stay with Plato here
24:46To see whether they can close that gap up

24:52Who's doing a fantastic job so far

32:27Making the most of it

32:30It's definitely a close battle
32:32And Luke obviously
32:33Likes to lead races
32:34When he gets in front
32:36He seems to make a very good job
32:37A little bit of it
32:38It's possible to look up the inside
32:39And see him
32:40But so far
32:41A perfect drive by Hines
32:43I think he's just going to hold on to it
32:44Plato is catching Reid behind him
32:47And that will put Reid under pressure
32:48But surely Luke Hines is going to get his second victory
32:52It's this battle for fourth place
32:54That's really the exciting one
32:56Side by side
32:57Once again
32:58They come at 140 miles an hour
32:59Muller will turn in
33:01He knows he's got a little advantage
33:03Will Turkey just tap him and push it wide?

33:40But Plato might put in a last lap charge

34:17And as they come through the S's

34:20Still almost pushed around by Turkington
34:23We're running out of time now

34:31Now you can sometimes be very brave
34:34And break down the inside here

35:15Meanwhile just coming through the last few finishers
35:18Including Michael Bentwood

35:21Both cars have made it through to the finish
35:23But not inside the points this time
35:25The Union flag colours there of Jason Hughes also coming through
35:29But a victory weave down the backstretch there for Luke Hines
35:33He is elated
35:34And he has every right to be
35:36Because that was a well-driven race
35:38Excellent race
35:39We predicted Anthony Reid
35:40But we didn't count on the virtuoso performance there

35:46A great effort
35:47Perfect start
35:48Led every lap
35:49Under a lot of pressure
35:50From the closing Reid initially
35:51And then Plato as well
35:53Only a second covering the top three at the end
35:57A perfectly judged race
