00:00May the peace, blessings, and mercy of God be upon you
00:06The story I am telling today is a fictional story that did not happen in reality.
00:11But I will tell it because of the meaning and moral behind it
00:15It is said that a sheikh took his student into a large palace.
00:20He asked him to walk around the palace corridors and see what was in it.
00:25Then he gave him a plate with a drop of oil on it.
00:28He will return at the end of the day with the plate and a drop of oil on it.
00:33And indeed, the student returned at the end of the day carrying the plate with the drop of oil on it, as his teacher had ordered him to do.
00:40The Sheikh asked him what he saw in the palace.
00:44The student could not answer.
00:47The Sheikh asked him, “Didn’t you see the curtains woven of velvet and silk?”
00:51Handwoven carpets in Persia
00:55Rich chandelier cast from pure gold and genuine crystal
01:01ceramic floor
01:04Luxury furniture made of the finest wood
01:07The stunning paintings hanging on the walls of the palace
01:10etc. etc.
01:13The student answered no to every question.
01:16The Sheikh ordered him to come back again and inspect the palace carefully.
01:20At the end of the second day, the student returned and continued to enumerate to his teacher all the manifestations of beauty that he had seen and that had captivated his heart and mind.
01:31Curtains, carpets, chandeliers, and paintings
01:37Something he's never seen before
01:40The Sheikh kept listening in silence.
01:44After the student finished describing all the things he saw,
01:50Beauty is all the beauty he has seen
01:53The Sheikh asked him about the plate
01:57The student gave him the plate.
02:00The Sheikh asked him, but where is the drop of oil?
02:04The student looked at the plate in my hand.
02:07He did not find it
02:08The drop fell from the plate without him noticing while he was walking around the palace.
02:14Dazzled by all its beauty and magnificence
02:18The story ends here
02:20What does it mean?
02:21The beautiful palace is the worldly life
02:26Our wandering in this palace is our life on this earth
02:30A drop of oil on the plate
02:32It is the purpose for which God created us.
02:36And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
02:40This is the purpose of creation.
02:42The purpose of our existence in life
02:44But worshipping God does not mean
02:47Asceticism in life
02:49And abandoning it and not enjoying it
02:52no
02:54It does not mean living in abject poverty
02:58Asceticism in life does not mean this
03:00Rather, it means that the heart is not attached to the beauties of life.
03:04And do not over-enjoy it
03:08And always remember that we are on a journey
03:11And we may reach the end of the journey at any moment.
03:15Our Lord commanded us to contemplate life and the universe.
03:19How this in itself is considered worship of God
03:23Say, "Travel through the land and observe how He began creation."
03:27Then God creates the afterlife
03:30Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.
03:33The lesson is in the end
03:37It is that we should not be devoid of the pleasures of life
03:41We think that this is what God wants from us
03:44Don't forget your share of this world
03:47At the same time, we do not indulge in these pleasures.
03:51We forget God and we forget the purpose for which God created us.
03:57What is required is an equation that achieves this good balance.
04:02Happy Ramadan
04:04May the peace, blessings, and mercy of God be upon you
04:07Think of your duty as you think of your right
04:13Work to achieve perfection
04:16Not seeking fame or reward
04:19Do not expect more from people than they have the right to expect from you.
