A study of the book of Daniel chapter 8. Daniel’s attention is now drawn away from the vision to a conversation he hears between two saints that happen to be present. This is the first time they are mentioned, and it seems clear by the question asked that they have witnessed the vision along with Daniel. Who are these saints? How many are present here altogether? What is the answer to the question from the Saint? Join me as we begin looking deeply at verses 13-14.

00:00:00Hello friends, I'm Pastor Joel Aswell. I welcome you to our study here at this time.
00:00:20We're getting back in to Daniel chapter 8. We're going to be looking at verses 13 and 14.
00:00:30As a matter of fact, some incredible things here. Not just the vision Daniel saw, but we've come across a couple of beings here that are with Daniel.
00:00:39We're going to talk about that a little bit and get into the Word of God.
00:00:43But before we begin, we want to ask the Holy Spirit to bless us. We always want to do that.
00:00:48And so I invite you to kneel. If possible, if not, let's bow our hearts and our heads together here in reverence to our Holy Father in Heaven.
00:01:01Dear Father, we thank you so much for this opportunity that we have to be alive.
00:01:06To see your blessings played out in our life. Give us discernment to see these things. If we don't, we are so very thankful that you sustain us.
00:01:21That you send us the Holy Spirit, which we ask for this morning.
00:01:24To give us discernment and wisdom as we open your Holy Word that you've protected through the ages.
00:01:31That we can still learn things from that are available to us in this day.
00:01:34The time of the end that we're in.
00:01:37We thank you for Jesus, your Son, who came to this earth, became like one of us.
00:01:46A mystery to us.
00:01:47But He will retain His humanity for eternity.
00:01:51Being one with us.
00:01:53So when we read that God so loved the world that He gave.
00:01:57He gave His Son to be like us for all eternity.
00:02:01It is an awesome thing to consider.
00:02:05And He shed His blood for our sins.
00:02:07Giving us the opportunity to live in your family again.
00:02:11Through the forgiveness of sins.
00:02:17And the covering of our sins by His blood.
00:02:19But He didn't just do that.
00:02:20He lived a righteous life showing us that we too can.
00:02:24Through His strength.
00:02:26And the decisions that we make.
00:02:29Becoming holy decisions.
00:02:31Through love to You.
00:02:34Father, we pray forgiveness for our sins.
00:02:35We pray for those who can be with us here.
00:02:37We ask that You be very near those who are suffering with health issues.
00:02:43Whether they're mental, emotional, physical.
00:02:47We pray that You protect Your people around the world.
00:02:51There are many brethren being persecuted.
00:02:53We know that will increase.
00:02:55As forces are coming together to enforce the mark of the beast.
00:03:02I pray that people can hear these words.
00:03:05Give me the words to speak.
00:03:07And study to show themselves approved of Thee.
00:03:11And come to know the truth.
00:03:13That what's coming.
00:03:14And they can prepare for it.
00:03:15Prepare others as well.
00:03:17And we all will be found worthy when Jesus returns.
00:03:19I pray this in the name of Jesus.
00:03:22Because worthy is the Lamb that was slain.
00:03:26Amen.
00:03:27And Amen.
00:03:28Amen.
00:03:29Well friends.
00:03:30In our last study.
00:03:33We looked at Daniel chapter 8.
00:03:37And in particular verse 12.
00:03:39In this series on Daniel 8 that I've entitled The Desolator.
00:03:43I hope you're seeing that this little horn who evolves here.
00:03:49He's gone from the bold pretender into a desolator now.
00:03:54Trying to desolate God's law and God's times and God's people.
00:04:00And so we get in here into Daniel 8.
00:04:04And we're discovering through this vision.
00:04:06Daniel's being shown all these things from Daniel 7 into Daniel chapter 8.
00:04:11And we find a question being asked by Daniel.
00:04:15We're going to get to this in verse 13.
00:04:19Here in just a moment.
00:04:20But we're finding here Daniel having astonishment at what he's seeing.
00:04:28And so in his mind he's got these questions.
00:04:32And so first as we begin I want to go over some of the things.
00:04:36There's about 15, I don't know, 15 or so things that we learned from our last study.
00:04:43Mainly from Daniel chapter 8 verse 12.
00:04:46Let's cover those here quickly.
00:04:49To kind of refresh our memory as we get moving along here again.
00:04:55And so from our last study we learned that a host is given the little horn.
00:05:03But it wasn't by his own strength.
00:05:05He didn't develop it himself.
00:05:07It comes from outside the church.
00:05:10And we discovered that this host is not the Catholic clergy as some teach that it is.
00:05:17Because it comes from outside of himself.
00:05:21It's not by his own strength.
00:05:23We learned that this host is defined as an army supplied by civil authorities to do the bidding of the papacy
00:05:29against the daily of the prince or of Christ.
00:05:34We learned that the true king of the north.
00:05:38We talked about the king of the north.
00:05:40And we learned that the true king of the north is God who dwells on Mount Zion in the heavenly Jerusalem.
00:05:46We also learned in our study of Daniel 11 31 there about the king of the north.
00:05:51That Satan set up a rival kingdom on earth.
00:05:54And he became the counterfeit king of the north wanting to usurp the legitimate position of God.
00:06:04We also learned that Satan sits in the earthly temple in the sides of the heavenly temple of course.
00:06:12But we learned that he sits in the earthly temple in the sides of the symbolic north.
00:06:17Planting a counterfeit religion in the church which we know to be papal Rome.
00:06:24We learned that God's kingdom is called Israel.
00:06:27Satan's kingdom is called Babylon.
00:06:30That's why you read a lot in the prophecies about Babylon.
00:06:32Especially in Daniel there was literal Babylon.
00:06:36There was spiritual Babylon.
00:06:38And we'll get more and more into that.
00:06:41We've already covered some of it already.
00:06:45We learned that God the Father has his vicar or vice regent.
00:06:51And that's Jesus.
00:06:52And Satan also has his vicar or vice regent.
00:06:56And that's the Pope.
00:06:57We learned in our comparison of Daniel 8 verse 12 with Daniel 11 31 that clearly it indicates that the little horn's host is composed of his armies, the secular power, the imperial sword of the state.
00:07:17That was one of the characteristics of the little horn was that it was a church state entity, you see.
00:07:23The state enforces the dogmas of the church.
00:07:27It's that second sword in the doctrine of the two swords that we find within the Catholic church, Catholic faith.
00:07:42Now literally speaking, we learned that the king of the north in Daniel 11 is Babylon.
00:07:47It's literal Babylon.
00:07:48But symbolically, the king of the north represents the papacy which employs multitudes and nations and tongues and people.
00:07:55We read there in Revelation 17 that these waters of the sea and these waters were multitudes, nations, tongues and people.
00:08:05And we read about this flood that was put out to destroy God's people.
00:08:11It's talking about multitudes, nations, tongues and people.
00:08:14And that's what they do to attempt to overwhelm the end time church.
00:08:18We learned that the king of the north in Daniel 11 represents the same power as the little horn here in Daniel 8.
00:08:31We learned that the armies, the political power, stand on behalf of the papacy and then they together pollute the sanctuary.
00:08:42We learned that the word abomination is consistently used in the Old Testament in conjunction with idolatry.
00:08:53We also learned in our last study that the abomination of desolation already existed in the days of Israel,
00:08:59immediately before the Babylonian captivity and foreshadows the abomination of desolation in Christ's day.
00:09:08Another thing that we learned is that the little horn, with the aid of his host, set up the transgression of desolation.
00:09:23Spoken of in Daniel 8.13, which we will get to in just a moment.
00:09:27A few other things we learned was that the little horn's host helps fight against the daily by reason of transgression.
00:09:34And we studied that out a bit, and we found that the word transgression there is the Hebrew pesah.
00:09:41And it's the strongest Hebrew word in the Old Testament for this type of sin.
00:09:48It's a sin that means rebellion or revolt, outright rebellion against God.
00:09:53And so this little horn and his host are not simply sinning.
00:09:56They are revolting or openly rebelling against the prince, the daily, and the place of the sanctuary.
00:10:04Another thing that we learned was that the little horn and his host prosper in their endeavor to transgress,
00:10:11pesah, for 1260 years.
00:10:15And we know that that was during what is referred to by Protestants,
00:10:21maybe not so much anymore, as the Dark Ages.
00:10:25And in fact, this is what necessitates the judgment.
00:10:30You see, the purpose of the judgment, we learned in Daniel 7, in this specific context,
00:10:35is to reverse the little horn's work.
00:10:39And then we learned that it was the law of God that was cast down and trampled in the dust,
00:10:46unimpeded throughout all of Christendom during this 1260-year reign of the Catholic Church,
00:10:55with an emphasis of changing the Sabbath of the Fourth Commandment, that seventh day,
00:11:01to the worship of the Sunday, which is the first day of the week.
00:11:06And of course, that was accomplished as we studied out by Constantine's Sunday law.
00:11:11And so those are some of the things that we studied out in our last study in episode 8.
00:11:20We're now in episode 9, and we're going to get into Daniel chapter 8,
00:11:26and verses 13, and touch on 14, and a few other things as well.
00:11:31But let's read it together here as we get started.
00:11:36We'll go to Daniel 8, and we'll begin with verse 13.
00:11:39And here's what we find here.
00:11:42Daniel says,
00:11:43Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint, which spake,
00:11:48How long shall be the vision concerning the daily,
00:11:51and of course, sacrifice was added,
00:11:53the daily sacrifice and the transgression of desolation,
00:11:57to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden underfoot.
00:12:02What is he talking about here?
00:12:04Well, we're going to get into it.
00:12:05And so the answer comes in verse 14.
00:12:10And notice he says, he begins, he says,
00:12:13One saint speaking to another, and then in verse 14 he says,
00:12:16And he said unto me,
00:12:17Unto 2,300 days, then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
00:12:26And so Daniel's attention is now drawn away from the vision to a conversation he hears between two saints
00:12:39that just happen to be present there.
00:12:43And this is the first time that they're mentioned.
00:12:45And it seems clear by the question asked that they've witnessed the vision along with Daniel.
00:12:51And so, if you're like me, the question that pops up is,
00:12:56Who are these saints?
00:12:58How many are actually present here, all together?
00:13:03Well, we know that there's Daniel, right?
00:13:06And we're being told that there are two others, right?
00:13:10And so, first we say, well, okay, there's three that are present.
00:13:14As to who these three were, the literal translation of the text makes it more clear who is present.
00:13:22It says,
00:13:23And I heard a holy one speaking, and a holy one said to Palmani,
00:13:26Who was the speaker?
00:13:29How long shall be the vision?
00:13:31Isn't that interesting?
00:13:32That's the literal translation of the text.
00:13:38And I heard a holy one speaking, and a holy one said to Palmani.
00:13:45Daniel says, one saint was speaking to another saint.
00:13:49So the idea is, these are a couple angels, right?
00:13:53But one says to Palmani, that gives us a hint.
00:13:56We look at the original, that gives us a hint.
00:13:58Who is this one angel speaking to?
00:14:03He says to the speaker, how long shall be the vision?
00:14:05And if you look in the margin of the text, where the words, that certain saint which spake are found,
00:14:13these words are written, in the margin.
00:14:18That certain saint which spake are found, right?
00:14:22And it says, in the margin, the numberer of secrets, or the wonderful numberer.
00:14:27It's the Hebrew word, Palmani.
00:14:30What does that mean?
00:14:32What is Palmani?
00:14:33So an angel is speaking to another holy one, and he addresses him as Palmani.
00:14:41So we find in verse 13, the speaker, called the wonderful numberer.
00:14:47We have a holy one, and then we have Daniel.
00:14:51These were the three persons present.
00:14:53Now the more literal translation of the text makes plain the speaker was the one called Palmani.
00:14:58The actual Hebrew reads, Laupalmani, Hamdabar unto Palmani, the speaker.
00:15:06Now the Hebrew word Palmani is, it's actually, it's a contracted word.
00:15:10It contains the elements of two Hebrew words.
00:15:13One is Pele, the other is Mana.
00:15:17The Hebrew word Pele means wonderful.
00:15:19And we know that from Isaiah 9 and verse 6, right?
00:15:24Wonderful counselor, right?
00:15:26And speaking of who?
00:15:28Speaking of Jesus.
00:15:30Now the word Mana means numbered.
00:15:33And you can look at, in Daniel chapter 5, and you see it used there.
00:15:37Remember there were handwriting on the wall, and Daniel interprets it and says,
00:15:41your days are numbered.
00:15:42Mana, numbered.
00:15:44So, this contracted Hebrew word, Palmani, literally means wonderful numberer.
00:15:51This wonderful numberer is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ.
00:15:57So one person present, recorded here in Daniel 8, verse 13, was the Lord Jesus.
00:16:03The two holy ones, one of them is Jesus.
00:16:05The second person, represented by the holy one, was actually the angel Gabriel.
00:16:10Now how do you know that, Pastor Joel?
00:16:12Well, it doesn't say Gabriel there anywhere, does it?
00:16:15How do we know that?
00:16:17Well, if you skip a couple of verses ahead, to verse 16, Daniel 8, verse 16, notice what it says.
00:16:26It says,
00:16:27And I heard a man's voice between the banks of the Uli, which called and said,
00:16:31Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.
00:16:35And so, Jesus is telling Gabriel to make Daniel understand the vision.
00:16:41That's what's being said there in verse 16.
00:16:45And you may recall, in Luke chapter 1, that it was the angel Gabriel that came to Zacharias,
00:16:52you remember, to tell him that his wife was pregnant, would give birth to John the Baptist.
00:16:58You recall that?
00:16:58Luke 1, verse 19, it says,
00:17:03And the angel answering said unto him,
00:17:05I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God,
00:17:09and am sent to speak unto thee, and to show thee these glad tidings.
00:17:14And so, the three that were present here,
00:17:17in Daniel 8, verse 13,
00:17:20were Jesus,
00:17:22was the angel Gabriel,
00:17:24and of course Daniel,
00:17:26the prophet.
00:17:27And so, what we find is,
00:17:30that there was something about this vision,
00:17:32which Daniel,
00:17:33well, there are many things,
00:17:34Daniel had questions about in this vision,
00:17:38he couldn't understand it,
00:17:41but there was something in his mind at that particular time,
00:17:45that he couldn't understand,
00:17:46and so the angel Gabriel asked the Lord Jesus,
00:17:49a question,
00:17:51for the benefit of Daniel.
00:17:52He perceived that Daniel had this question,
00:17:57you see.
00:17:59The angels,
00:18:00they know the thoughts that are in our minds,
00:18:04by our reactions and things,
00:18:06they can read us.
00:18:07And if angels can do that,
00:18:08don't you think Satan can do that as well?
00:18:12Don't you think he knows us,
00:18:14personally,
00:18:15very well?
00:18:16He tailors temptations specifically to each one of us.
00:18:25So here,
00:18:26Gabriel asks Jesus a question for the benefit of Daniel,
00:18:30so that it might be made clear to him.
00:18:33And so what's interesting is,
00:18:34instead of the Lord Jesus turning to the angel Gabriel,
00:18:37and giving Gabriel the answer,
00:18:40the prophet Daniel says that the speaker turned to him,
00:18:44to Daniel,
00:18:46and gave the answer direct to him.
00:18:49That's what we read there in verse 13, right?
00:18:53He says,
00:18:54Then I heard one saint speaking,
00:18:57and another saint said,
00:18:58Unto that certain saint which spake,
00:19:00How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice,
00:19:02and the transgression and desolation,
00:19:04etc.?
00:19:05Verse 14,
00:19:05And he said unto me,
00:19:08Daniel said.
00:19:08So Gabriel asks Jesus a question.
00:19:12Jesus turns and gives the answer to Daniel.
00:19:15Isn't that remarkable?
00:19:20He said,
00:19:22Unto me.
00:19:25I don't know how many people pick that up.
00:19:28But it's just kind of astounding.
00:19:31The angel perceives Daniel has this question.
00:19:34So Gabriel asks Jesus a question.
00:19:37Jesus turns,
00:19:37gives Daniel the answer.
00:19:40Notice this.
00:19:41This quote is from Farrell's book of Daniel,
00:19:44pages 90 to 92.
00:19:45Notice what Farrell says.
00:19:47He says,
00:19:48Christ is here called by the unique name,
00:19:52the Wonderful Numberer.
00:19:54Why this strange name?
00:19:57Obviously,
00:19:59to call attention to the fact
00:20:01that the 2300 day prophecy
00:20:03was of the highest importance.
00:20:05Only Christ himself could present it.
00:20:09He alone,
00:20:11the master of all numbers,
00:20:13able to count the stars,
00:20:16was able to provide Daniel with a time span that was greater
00:20:20than a third of the total time that mankind has been in this world of sin.
00:20:25End quote.
00:20:30So Jesus is there personally
00:20:32to introduce
00:20:33the prophecy of the 2300 years.
00:20:37That's how important this prophecy is.
00:20:44And so one of them asks the other,
00:20:47how long shall be the vision?
00:20:49But you know,
00:20:51a better translation would actually be
00:20:54until when shall be the vision.
00:20:58You see,
00:20:58the question of Daniel 8 verse 13
00:21:00opens with the Hebrew words,
00:21:02Admetay.
00:21:03And they're usually translated as,
00:21:05how long?
00:21:07But the meaning is rather different here.
00:21:09So what do these two words really mean?
00:21:14Well,
00:21:14the first word,
00:21:16Ad,
00:21:17it's actually a temporal preposition
00:21:20which should be rendered until.
00:21:23It's connected to the temporal
00:21:24interrogative adverb,
00:21:27Mate,
00:21:27which means when,
00:21:29until when.
00:21:32And so the question in Daniel 8 verse 13
00:21:34opens with an inquiry about time.
00:21:36Until when?
00:21:37Which is answered in the next verse,
00:21:41verse 14,
00:21:42until,
00:21:42that's the Hebrew word Ad,
00:21:4423 evenings and mornings.
00:21:47Then,
00:21:48the Hebrew word We,
00:21:49at that time,
00:21:50shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
00:21:53And that's the Hebrew word Nizdak.
00:21:55And we're going to talk about that in a minute.
00:21:58But to paraphrase the question more accurately,
00:22:01in accordance with the Hebrew,
00:22:04it would say,
00:22:05until what point in time
00:22:06shall be the vision about the daily
00:22:08and the desolating transgression
00:22:10to give both the sanctuary
00:22:11and God's people
00:22:12to be trodden underfoot.
00:22:16You see,
00:22:17the main point of the question
00:22:18is changed from
00:22:20how long will the time span be
00:22:22to when will the time span end.
00:22:26That's more accurate.
00:22:29The emphasis is not on its beginning.
00:22:32It's not on its duration,
00:22:35but on its termination.
00:22:37The stress of the question
00:22:39is about the end point,
00:22:40you see.
00:22:41And what happens from then on?
00:22:44And the answers speak about
00:22:46the termination point.
00:22:47You see,
00:22:49the focus is on
00:22:49the end time.
00:22:52This point about
00:22:54the termination
00:22:54of the time span
00:22:55is actually repeated
00:22:56to Daniel
00:22:57three more times
00:22:58in chapter 8.
00:23:00And you can read it.
00:23:02Verse 17 says,
00:23:04For at the time of the end
00:23:05shall be the vision.
00:23:08And when you look at verse 26,
00:23:10it says,
00:23:11The vision of the evening
00:23:12and morning
00:23:12which was told is true
00:23:13for it shall be
00:23:14for many days.
00:23:18Look at verse 19.
00:23:20At the time appointed,
00:23:21the end shall be.
00:23:23You see,
00:23:23the emphasis is
00:23:24on the end
00:23:25of the 2300 days.
00:23:26Not the time span itself.
00:23:30It is the end time
00:23:33which is being emphasized
00:23:35by Gabriel
00:23:36in his question
00:23:37and several replies.
00:23:41And so the question
00:23:42is not asking
00:23:43for the length of time
00:23:44that the papacy
00:23:45will have supremacy.
00:23:46How long?
00:23:48Why, pastor?
00:23:50Well, because that time
00:23:51was given to us
00:23:51in Daniel 7
00:23:52and verse 25.
00:23:54So 1260 years
00:23:56the little horn
00:23:57would reign.
00:23:57We already know that.
00:23:59This question
00:24:00is asking
00:24:01when an end
00:24:02will begin
00:24:02to be worked out
00:24:03to stop
00:24:04the ongoing deception
00:24:05and destruction
00:24:06of the people of God.
00:24:08That's the question
00:24:09that Daniel had
00:24:10in his head,
00:24:11in his mind.
00:24:11and that's what
00:24:13Gabriel was asking
00:24:14Jesus.
00:24:15And Jesus gave
00:24:16Daniel the answer.
00:24:18The question asks,
00:24:19what will happen
00:24:20at the termination
00:24:21of the terrible time
00:24:21of desolating transgression?
00:24:24And the answer
00:24:25tells what begins
00:24:26to happen
00:24:26at that terminal point.
00:24:29Let's go back
00:24:30to Pharaoh
00:24:30in his book
00:24:31of Daniel.
00:24:33Pages 93
00:24:34to 95.
00:24:35All the way up
00:24:36to page 102.
00:24:37I would say
00:24:38it's an interesting
00:24:40book by Pharaoh.
00:24:43Worth to have
00:24:43in your library,
00:24:45I would say.
00:24:46But notice
00:24:47what he says,
00:24:47quote,
00:24:48to paraphrase
00:24:49the question
00:24:50more accurately
00:24:51in accordance
00:24:51with the Hebrew,
00:24:53until what point
00:24:54in time
00:24:54shall be the vision
00:24:55about the continual
00:24:56first apartment
00:24:57ministry
00:24:58and the desolating
00:25:00transgression
00:25:01to give both
00:25:02the sanctuary
00:25:02and God's people
00:25:03to be trodden
00:25:04underfoot?
00:25:05This is what
00:25:06Pharaoh says.
00:25:07And that's from
00:25:08according to
00:25:10the Hebrew.
00:25:13It's more accurate.
00:25:15And it lines up
00:25:16very well.
00:25:17Lines up very well.
00:25:19Notice this too.
00:25:20This is from
00:25:21the Biblical
00:25:21Research Institute.
00:25:22Remember that
00:25:23symposium that
00:25:24they had on Daniel,
00:25:25volume 2,
00:25:25page 429.
00:25:27They say,
00:25:28quote,
00:25:28it is common
00:25:29but mistaken notion
00:25:30that the emphasis
00:25:31is on the entire
00:25:32time span
00:25:33of 2300
00:25:34evening morning.
00:25:35However,
00:25:36the stress
00:25:37in the question
00:25:38of verse 13
00:25:39actually falls
00:25:40upon the end
00:25:41point of the
00:25:4223 evening mornings
00:25:43and what is to
00:25:44take place
00:25:45from that point
00:25:46of time onward.
00:25:48The emphasis
00:25:49is not duration,
00:25:51how long,
00:25:52but termination,
00:25:54until when
00:25:55and what
00:25:56follows.
00:25:58And that
00:26:00lines up,
00:26:00like I said,
00:26:01that lines up
00:26:01perfectly in
00:26:03Daniel 8.
00:26:04When you compare
00:26:05Daniel 7 and 8,
00:26:07lines up perfectly.
00:26:09In fact,
00:26:10this goes right
00:26:10along with what
00:26:11we learn in Daniel 7
00:26:12and what happened
00:26:13after the little
00:26:14horns ring.
00:26:16Right?
00:26:16Which the Bible
00:26:17says,
00:26:18God's judgment
00:26:19process was to
00:26:20begin.
00:26:20And so,
00:26:22the answer
00:26:22given to Daniel
00:26:23here in verse 14
00:26:24is the end
00:26:25point of the
00:26:25prophecy
00:26:26and when
00:26:27the judgment
00:26:28would begin.
00:26:29it's most
00:26:33important to
00:26:33realize that
00:26:34up to this
00:26:35point in
00:26:35Daniel 8,
00:26:36the word for
00:26:37vision,
00:26:38you recall,
00:26:40has uniformly
00:26:41been the
00:26:41Hebrew word
00:26:42kazan.
00:26:43Remember I
00:26:44said that from
00:26:44the beginning
00:26:45when we started
00:26:46studying Daniel 8.
00:26:47I said we
00:26:47need to keep
00:26:48our eye on
00:26:49this word
00:26:50kazan.
00:26:51It's very
00:26:52important.
00:26:53But we see
00:26:53change coming
00:26:54here.
00:26:57In fact,
00:26:58everything
00:26:59Daniel has
00:27:00seen up
00:27:00to this
00:27:01point is
00:27:01part of
00:27:02the
00:27:02kazan
00:27:02vision.
00:27:03The word's
00:27:04used three
00:27:04times in
00:27:04verses 1
00:27:05and 2.
00:27:07Thus,
00:27:07the vision
00:27:08kazan
00:27:09includes
00:27:09Medo-Persia,
00:27:11Greece,
00:27:11pagan Rome,
00:27:12and Papal
00:27:13Rome.
00:27:15Now,
00:27:16I primarily
00:27:17use the
00:27:18King James
00:27:18Version Bible
00:27:20when I do
00:27:21my studies.
00:27:21It's the
00:27:22most accurate
00:27:22I've found.
00:27:23But it has
00:27:23some issues
00:27:25like all
00:27:26translations do.
00:27:27The King
00:27:30James Version
00:27:31of Daniel 8
00:27:32verse 13
00:27:33reads,
00:27:35and here's
00:27:36one of them.
00:27:37Pay attention
00:27:38to this.
00:27:41King James
00:27:41Version,
00:27:42verse 13.
00:27:43How long
00:27:43shall be
00:27:44the vision
00:27:45concerning the
00:27:46daily sacrifice
00:27:47and the
00:27:47transgression
00:27:48and desolation
00:27:49to give both
00:27:50the sanctuary
00:27:50and the host
00:27:51to be trodden
00:27:51underfoot?
00:27:52You see,
00:27:54this translation,
00:27:55this reading,
00:27:56leaves you
00:27:57with the
00:27:57impression
00:27:58that the
00:27:58vision includes
00:27:59only the
00:28:01portion that
00:28:01has to do
00:28:02with the
00:28:02removal of
00:28:03the daily,
00:28:03the transgression
00:28:04and desolation
00:28:05and the
00:28:05trampling
00:28:06of the
00:28:07sanctuary
00:28:07and the
00:28:08host.
00:28:11However,
00:28:13the King
00:28:13James
00:28:14translation
00:28:15is actually
00:28:17incorrect here
00:28:17on two
00:28:18points.
00:28:19the original
00:28:21Hebrew text
00:28:22does not
00:28:22contain the
00:28:23word
00:28:24sacrifice.
00:28:25We've seen
00:28:26that.
00:28:27Even the
00:28:28prophet,
00:28:29Ellen White,
00:28:29says that.
00:28:30Sacrifice was
00:28:30added.
00:28:31But it
00:28:32doesn't contain
00:28:33the word
00:28:33concerning
00:28:34either.
00:28:37So it
00:28:38doesn't
00:28:38contain
00:28:39either of
00:28:40those words.
00:28:42Concerning
00:28:43or sacrifice.
00:28:44So when
00:28:45Gabriel asks
00:28:46the question,
00:28:47until when
00:28:48shall be
00:28:49the vision,
00:28:49Kazan,
00:28:50he's not
00:28:51merely referring
00:28:52to the
00:28:52portion of
00:28:53the vision
00:28:53that describes
00:28:54the work
00:28:55of the
00:28:55little horn,
00:28:56but rather
00:28:57to the
00:28:57total vision
00:28:58which began
00:28:59in Daniel
00:29:008 and
00:29:00verse 1.
00:29:03Now why
00:29:03is that
00:29:03important,
00:29:04Pastor?
00:29:06Let me
00:29:07tell you
00:29:07why that's
00:29:08important.
00:29:09You see,
00:29:11knowing that,
00:29:12seeing that,
00:29:14proves that
00:29:14we must
00:29:15apply the
00:29:16year-day
00:29:16principle to
00:29:17the 2300
00:29:18days.
00:29:202,300
00:29:21literal
00:29:22days,
00:29:24if you
00:29:25used it
00:29:25literally,
00:29:25would cover
00:29:26a period
00:29:26of about
00:29:27six and
00:29:27a half
00:29:27years.
00:29:29That's a
00:29:29time span
00:29:30far too
00:29:31short to
00:29:32include the
00:29:32kingdoms of
00:29:33Medo-Persia,
00:29:34Greece,
00:29:35pagan,
00:29:36and papal
00:29:36Rome.
00:29:37Wouldn't
00:29:37you agree
00:29:37with that?
00:29:38Well,
00:29:39yeah,
00:29:39documented
00:29:40history lays
00:29:40that out
00:29:41pretty well.
00:29:42So the
00:29:42use of the
00:29:43word Kazan
00:29:43in the
00:29:44angelic
00:29:44question also
00:29:45requires that
00:29:46the 2300
00:29:46days be
00:29:47understood
00:29:48as years.
00:29:53The use
00:29:53of the
00:29:54word Kazan
00:29:54in Gabriel's
00:29:55question also
00:29:56helps us
00:29:56understand why
00:29:57the vision
00:29:57of Daniel
00:29:588,
00:29:59contrary to
00:30:00Daniel 7,
00:30:01and I
00:30:01mentioned this
00:30:02before,
00:30:04the vision
00:30:05begins with
00:30:05the kingdom
00:30:05of Medo-Persia
00:30:06and not with
00:30:07the kingdom
00:30:07of Babylon.
00:30:10And so the
00:30:10reason is the
00:30:11prophecy of the
00:30:122300 days begins
00:30:13during the period
00:30:14of the Medo-Persian
00:30:15empire,
00:30:16457 B.C.,
00:30:18right?
00:30:19It doesn't
00:30:19begin during
00:30:20the reign
00:30:20of Babylon.
00:30:22If Daniel
00:30:23had started
00:30:24the Kazan
00:30:24with Babylon,
00:30:25he would
00:30:26have given
00:30:26the distinct
00:30:27impression
00:30:27that the
00:30:28prophecy
00:30:28of the
00:30:292300 days
00:30:30was to
00:30:30begin
00:30:31during the
00:30:31reign of
00:30:31Babylon.
00:30:33So the
00:30:34vision begins
00:30:35with Medo-Persia.
00:30:37Why?
00:30:37Because the
00:30:382300 day
00:30:39prophecy,
00:30:412300 years,
00:30:43begin during
00:30:43the reign
00:30:44of Medo-Persia.
00:30:47Let's see
00:30:48what Shea
00:30:48says in
00:30:49his Daniel,
00:30:50a reader's
00:30:50guide,
00:30:51pages 183
00:30:52and 184.
00:30:53Notice what
00:30:53Shea says
00:30:54about this.
00:30:55He says,
00:30:56quote,
00:30:56it is important
00:30:57to note that
00:30:58the question
00:30:58is about the
00:30:59length of
00:31:00the vision,
00:31:01not about
00:31:02the length
00:31:02of the
00:31:03activities of
00:31:03the little
00:31:04horn.
00:31:05Exactly.
00:31:06He's exactly
00:31:07right.
00:31:09He said it's
00:31:10about the
00:31:10entire vision
00:31:11here,
00:31:12not just
00:31:12about the
00:31:13little horn.
00:31:14The activities
00:31:15of the
00:31:15little horn
00:31:16are included
00:31:17within the
00:31:17vision.
00:31:19Indeed,
00:31:19they mark
00:31:20its climax,
00:31:21but they are
00:31:22not all that
00:31:22there is in
00:31:23the vision.
00:31:25How do we
00:31:25know that?
00:31:26Because we've
00:31:27read the
00:31:28entire chapter.
00:31:32He says the
00:31:33vision also
00:31:33includes the
00:31:35Persian ram,
00:31:36the Greek
00:31:37goat,
00:31:39and the four
00:31:39horns that
00:31:40precede the
00:31:41little horn
00:31:41of Rome's
00:31:42two phases.
00:31:44He goes
00:31:44on, he
00:31:45says,
00:31:45so when the
00:31:45angel asks
00:31:46how long
00:31:47is the
00:31:47vision,
00:31:49the word
00:31:49vision,
00:31:50remember
00:31:50Kazan
00:31:51there,
00:31:52includes the
00:31:53whole of
00:31:54what Daniel
00:31:54saw in
00:31:56chapter 8,
00:31:58from the
00:32:00Persian ram
00:32:01to the
00:32:02little horn.
00:32:03This fact
00:32:04gives us an
00:32:05approximate
00:32:05starting point
00:32:06for the
00:32:072300 day
00:32:08time period
00:32:09mentioned in
00:32:10verse 14.
00:32:12End quote.
00:32:13So it's
00:32:14very important.
00:32:17That word
00:32:17Kazan.
00:32:18We'll get a
00:32:19little bit more
00:32:19into it here
00:32:19in just a
00:32:20moment.
00:32:20Let's go
00:32:21back to
00:32:21Daniel 8,
00:32:21verse 13.
00:32:23We read
00:32:24there, it
00:32:24says,
00:32:25the daily
00:32:26sacrifice and
00:32:27the transgression
00:32:28of desolation
00:32:29to get both
00:32:29the sanctuary
00:32:30and the host
00:32:31to be trodden
00:32:32underfoot.
00:32:34Well, we
00:32:35know that the
00:32:36earthly sanctuary
00:32:37was cast
00:32:37down, destroyed
00:32:38by pagan
00:32:39Rome in
00:32:3970 AD,
00:32:41at which
00:32:42time it
00:32:42was no
00:32:42longer holy,
00:32:43right?
00:32:44Nor did it
00:32:44retain any
00:32:45real significance.
00:32:48Now, during
00:32:49the Middle
00:32:49Ages, the
00:32:51heavenly sanctuary
00:32:51with its
00:32:52divine priesthood
00:32:53and services
00:32:54were polluted
00:32:55and cast
00:32:56down by
00:32:56the papal
00:32:57apostasy.
00:33:00In
00:33:011854,
00:33:02Elder Uriah
00:33:03Smith wrote
00:33:03a tract
00:33:04entitled
00:33:04The 2300
00:33:06Days and
00:33:07the Sanctuary
00:33:08in which
00:33:09he answered
00:33:09the question
00:33:10as to how
00:33:11the place
00:33:12of Christ's
00:33:12sanctuary
00:33:13in the
00:33:13heaven
00:33:13could be
00:33:13cast down
00:33:14by an
00:33:15earthly power.
00:33:16And I
00:33:17actually shared
00:33:17this earlier,
00:33:18but let's
00:33:18read it again.
00:33:20What does
00:33:20Smith say
00:33:21about this?
00:33:22This is in
00:33:23Bible Doctrines
00:33:23for Seventh-day
00:33:25Adventist Colleges,
00:33:26page 285.
00:33:26It's in many
00:33:27other places,
00:33:28but I picked
00:33:28this one
00:33:29at this time.
00:33:31Notice what
00:33:31Smith says
00:33:32here about it.
00:33:34He says,
00:33:35We read
00:33:38in Daniel 8,
00:33:39verse 13,
00:33:41about treading
00:33:41the sanctuary
00:33:42underfoot,
00:33:43and it may
00:33:44be asked,
00:33:44how a
00:33:45sanctuary in
00:33:46heaven can
00:33:47be trodden
00:33:48underfoot.
00:33:50These
00:33:51expressions are
00:33:52figurative,
00:33:53as will be
00:33:53seen from
00:33:54Hebrews 10,
00:33:54verse 29,
00:33:55which speaks
00:33:56of treading
00:33:57underfoot the
00:33:57Son of God.
00:33:59In the same
00:34:00sense that the
00:34:01Son of God is
00:34:01trodden underfoot,
00:34:02Smith says,
00:34:03the Pope has
00:34:04trodden underfoot
00:34:05the heavenly
00:34:06sanctuary by
00:34:07calling his
00:34:08own sanctuary
00:34:09or temple
00:34:10the temple
00:34:11of God,
00:34:12and by
00:34:14turning away
00:34:14the worship
00:34:15of man from
00:34:16the temple
00:34:16of God
00:34:17in heaven
00:34:17to his
00:34:18own sanctuary,
00:34:20by elevating
00:34:21himself above
00:34:22all that is
00:34:23called God,
00:34:24and by
00:34:25assuming to
00:34:26be the head
00:34:27of the church
00:34:28instead of
00:34:29Christ,
00:34:30end quote.
00:34:31Now,
00:34:35it's impossible
00:34:35to tread
00:34:37underfoot the
00:34:38Son of God
00:34:39by counting
00:34:41the blood of
00:34:42the covenant
00:34:42an unholy
00:34:44thing,
00:34:44and by doing
00:34:45despite unto
00:34:45the Spirit
00:34:46of grace,
00:34:48than it is
00:34:49just as possible
00:34:50to trample
00:34:50underfoot the
00:34:51sanctuary which
00:34:52Christ ministers
00:34:52by the
00:34:53institution of
00:34:54a counterfeit
00:34:54administration.
00:34:56In the same
00:34:57way, we can
00:34:58crucify the
00:34:58Son of God
00:34:59afresh,
00:34:59can't we?
00:35:00Aren't we
00:35:00told that?
00:35:01Didn't the
00:35:01Bible tell
00:35:01us that?
00:35:02We can
00:35:03put him
00:35:03to an
00:35:03open shame,
00:35:05as we read
00:35:06there in
00:35:06Hebrews chapter
00:35:076, in
00:35:08particular verse
00:35:096.
00:35:12Any
00:35:13difficulty
00:35:14regarding the
00:35:15capability of
00:35:16the papacy to
00:35:16occupy the
00:35:18temple or
00:35:19sanctuary of
00:35:19God and
00:35:20pollute it
00:35:20with a
00:35:21false system
00:35:22disappear when
00:35:24we realize
00:35:25that part of
00:35:25the heavenly
00:35:26sanctuary,
00:35:27the court,
00:35:28is on
00:35:29earth.
00:35:29Do you
00:35:30realize that?
00:35:33Notice what
00:35:34we are told in
00:35:34Revelation chapter
00:35:3511.
00:35:37Chapter 11, and
00:35:38I've referred back
00:35:39to that a few
00:35:40times in our
00:35:40study here.
00:35:41Revelation 11.
00:35:42Let's read the
00:35:43first three verses
00:35:44of Revelation 11,
00:35:46verses 1 through
00:35:473.
00:35:48It says,
00:35:49And there was
00:35:49given me a
00:35:50reed like unto
00:35:51a rod, and the
00:35:52angel stood,
00:35:53saying,
00:35:53Rise, and
00:35:54measure the
00:35:54temple of God
00:35:55and the altar
00:35:56and them that
00:35:57worship therein.
00:35:58Notice verse
00:35:592.
00:36:00But the
00:36:01court, which
00:36:02is without the
00:36:03temple, leave
00:36:04out and measure
00:36:05it not.
00:36:07For it is given
00:36:08unto the
00:36:09Gentiles, and
00:36:11the holy city
00:36:12shall they tread
00:36:13underfoot, how
00:36:14long?
00:36:16Forty and two
00:36:17months.
00:36:20And so, here
00:36:22we're told that
00:36:23the court of
00:36:23God's sanctuary is
00:36:24given unto the
00:36:25Gentiles, and for
00:36:27forty and two
00:36:28months they'll
00:36:28trample the
00:36:29holy city
00:36:29underfoot.
00:36:32And I'll tell
00:36:33you, nobody
00:36:34can read this in
00:36:35connection with
00:36:36Daniel 7 and
00:36:37verse 25, and
00:36:39read in chapter
00:36:418 of Daniel
00:36:42verse 10 to
00:36:4214, without
00:36:45knowing that they
00:36:46represent the
00:36:47same experience.
00:36:50The court of
00:36:51God's sanctuary
00:36:52and the holy
00:36:53city are
00:36:54identified as
00:36:55one and the
00:36:56same thing.
00:36:56holy city is
00:36:59the church, or
00:37:00the saints of
00:37:01the most high, or
00:37:01the host of
00:37:02heaven.
00:37:03Do you see
00:37:03that?
00:37:06The earth
00:37:07cannot be the
00:37:07court of the
00:37:08heavenly sanctuary
00:37:08because it's not
00:37:09a holy place.
00:37:11Also, it's been
00:37:13under the dominion
00:37:13of the Gentiles,
00:37:15well really,
00:37:16wicked and the
00:37:18righteous are
00:37:18together for
00:37:19six thousand
00:37:19years.
00:37:20so, you
00:37:23know, think
00:37:24it through.
00:37:26Put our
00:37:27thinking caps on.
00:37:27Let's think
00:37:28these things
00:37:28through.
00:37:30But John the
00:37:31revelator declares
00:37:32that the court,
00:37:33right, we just
00:37:34read, or holy
00:37:36city would be
00:37:37under the dominion
00:37:38of the Gentiles
00:37:38for only 42
00:37:39months, or
00:37:401260 years, and
00:37:42this is the exact
00:37:43time that the
00:37:44papacy was to
00:37:45trample underfoot
00:37:46the sanctuary of
00:37:47God and the
00:37:48saints of God.
00:37:49the truth is
00:37:54that the church
00:37:54of God is the
00:37:56only sacred place
00:37:57on earth and
00:37:58is therefore the
00:37:59court of the
00:38:00sanctuary.
00:38:01Sinners come out
00:38:02of the wicked
00:38:02world into the
00:38:04sacred enclosure
00:38:05of the church or
00:38:06court of God to
00:38:07find salvation at
00:38:08the altar of
00:38:09Calvary.
00:38:10And there the
00:38:11priest of the
00:38:11heavenly sanctuary
00:38:12meets the
00:38:13repentant sinner
00:38:15and then ministers
00:38:17his own blood
00:38:18in their behalf.
00:38:20Amen and
00:38:22amen.
00:38:24Now, there are
00:38:27many texts of
00:38:28scripture where
00:38:29the church is
00:38:30called the
00:38:31courts of the
00:38:32Lord and the
00:38:33courts of our
00:38:34God.
00:38:34You can see it
00:38:36in Psalms 65,
00:38:37Psalms 84,
00:38:38Psalms 92,
00:38:39Psalms 96,
00:38:42Psalms 100 even,
00:38:44Psalms 116,
00:38:45Psalm 135.
00:38:45Go to Isaiah
00:38:46chapter 1,
00:38:47you can find it
00:38:48there.
00:38:49Zechariah 3
00:38:49and verse 7
00:38:50talks about it.
00:38:54The plural is
00:38:56used in all
00:38:56these texts
00:38:57because Solomon's
00:38:58temple had
00:38:59several courts
00:39:00which represented
00:39:00the church as a
00:39:01whole.
00:39:03And you've
00:39:04done a whole
00:39:05series on who
00:39:06and what the
00:39:06church is.
00:39:08We know that
00:39:08there are many
00:39:09groups and
00:39:09organizations that
00:39:10make up the one
00:39:11true church on
00:39:12earth and in
00:39:12heaven.
00:39:13Remember,
00:39:15there are only
00:39:15two churches in
00:39:16this world.
00:39:18The church of
00:39:18Christ and the
00:39:19church of
00:39:19Antichrist.
00:39:22Why?
00:39:23Because there
00:39:24are only two
00:39:24spirits in this
00:39:25world.
00:39:26The spirit of
00:39:26Christ and the
00:39:27spirit of
00:39:27Antichrist.
00:39:31Remember,
00:39:31and never forget
00:39:32this,
00:39:32wherever Jesus
00:39:33is, there is
00:39:34his church.
00:39:36We talked about
00:39:36this a bit the
00:39:37last time we
00:39:38were together in
00:39:39our last study.
00:39:40Who's the
00:39:42church of
00:39:43Antichrist,
00:39:44by the way?
00:39:46You should be
00:39:46settled on that
00:39:47by now.
00:39:49You've been
00:39:49with us from
00:39:50the beginning
00:39:50of this series,
00:39:52the time of the
00:39:53end series.
00:39:55Notice this,
00:39:56this is from
00:39:56the book
00:39:57Acts of the
00:39:57Apostles,
00:39:59page 586.
00:40:06Acts of the
00:40:07Apostles,
00:40:07give me a
00:40:08second here.
00:40:10page 586.
00:40:19Quote,
00:40:19Christ is
00:40:20spoken of as
00:40:21walking in the
00:40:22midst of the
00:40:22golden candlesticks.
00:40:25Thus is
00:40:25symbolized his
00:40:26relation to the
00:40:27churches.
00:40:28He is in
00:40:28constant communication
00:40:30with his
00:40:30people.
00:40:31He knows
00:40:32their true
00:40:32state.
00:40:33He observes
00:40:34their order,
00:40:35their piety,
00:40:36their devotion.
00:40:38Although he
00:40:38is high priest
00:40:39and mediator
00:40:40in the
00:40:40sanctuary above,
00:40:42yet he is
00:40:42represented as
00:40:44walking up and
00:40:45down in the
00:40:45midst of his
00:40:46churches on
00:40:47the earth.
00:40:49With
00:40:49untiring
00:40:50wakefulness and
00:40:51unremitting
00:40:52vigilance,
00:40:53he watches to
00:40:54see whether the
00:40:55light of any of
00:40:56his sentinels is
00:40:57burning dim or
00:40:58going out.
00:40:59If the
00:41:00candlesticks were
00:41:01left to
00:41:01mere human
00:41:01care,
00:41:02the flickering
00:41:03flame would
00:41:04languish and
00:41:04die.
00:41:05But he is
00:41:07the true
00:41:07watchman in
00:41:08the Lord's
00:41:08house,
00:41:09the true
00:41:10warden of
00:41:10the temple
00:41:11courts.
00:41:13You see
00:41:13that?
00:41:16His
00:41:16continued care
00:41:17and sustaining
00:41:18grace are the
00:41:18source of life
00:41:20and light.
00:41:24So friends,
00:41:26I hope I'm
00:41:28presenting this
00:41:30in such a way
00:41:31that you're
00:41:31getting the
00:41:32puzzle pieces
00:41:33put together.
00:41:34You see,
00:41:35God's people
00:41:35cannot be
00:41:36separated from
00:41:37the sanctuary.
00:41:38What affects
00:41:41the sanctuary
00:41:42affects us,
00:41:44God's people.
00:41:47I want you
00:41:47to notice what
00:41:48our good friend
00:41:49John Skeet
00:41:50shared in his
00:41:52syllabus on the
00:41:53sanctuary.
00:41:54It's a very
00:41:55interesting thing
00:41:55that John said,
00:41:58Brother Skeet
00:41:58said.
00:42:01Notice this.
00:42:02He said,
00:42:03quote,
00:42:03Since the
00:42:04treading down
00:42:05of the sanctuary
00:42:06in verses 11
00:42:07and 12,
00:42:08that's Daniel 8,
00:42:09brought about
00:42:10a treading down
00:42:10of the host,
00:42:12which is defined
00:42:13as the people
00:42:13of God,
00:42:15it must be
00:42:16evident
00:42:17that the
00:42:19restoration
00:42:19and cleansing
00:42:20of the sanctuary
00:42:21would include
00:42:23the restoration
00:42:24and cleansing
00:42:25of the host,
00:42:26God's people
00:42:27who worship
00:42:28in that
00:42:29sanctuary,
00:42:30end quote.
00:42:33It's a
00:42:34wonderful statement
00:42:34by our
00:42:35brother
00:42:36Skeet.
00:42:36John.
00:42:39Such a good
00:42:40guy,
00:42:40him and
00:42:40Wendy.
00:42:42So let's
00:42:42use our
00:42:43thinking caps
00:42:44about what
00:42:44Daniel's
00:42:45telling us
00:42:45in chapter
00:42:468.
00:42:49Daniel had
00:42:50declared
00:42:51the daily
00:42:52was to be
00:42:53taken away
00:42:53and history
00:42:55confirms it
00:42:55was largely
00:42:56removed from
00:42:56the mindfulness
00:42:57of God's
00:42:58people for
00:42:59hundreds of
00:42:59years.
00:43:01So by the
00:43:02time in the
00:43:021840s,
00:43:04nearly all
00:43:05Protestant
00:43:05denominations
00:43:06and people
00:43:06believed that
00:43:07the sanctuary
00:43:08was actually
00:43:09talking about
00:43:10the earth
00:43:10and not a
00:43:11place in
00:43:12heaven.
00:43:14And it
00:43:15was their
00:43:15faulty
00:43:16interpretation
00:43:16about this
00:43:17that produced
00:43:18the bitter
00:43:19experience of
00:43:20the Adventists
00:43:21so vividly
00:43:22portrayed in
00:43:23Revelation
00:43:23chapter 10.
00:43:27And Revelation
00:43:2711 verse 1
00:43:28has revealed
00:43:29to us that
00:43:30the restoration
00:43:31of knowledge
00:43:32of the
00:43:33sanctuary
00:43:33and its
00:43:34services
00:43:35would not
00:43:36come until
00:43:37the passing
00:43:37of October
00:43:3822nd,
00:43:381844.
00:43:40And friends,
00:43:42this is
00:43:43exactly
00:43:44what happened
00:43:46in history.
00:43:48Thus proving
00:43:501844 A.D.
00:43:53is the
00:43:53correct
00:43:54interpretation
00:43:55of the
00:43:562300 days
00:43:57prophecy
00:43:57and that
00:43:58the
00:43:58Tamed
00:43:59is the
00:44:00knowledge
00:44:00of Christ's
00:44:01ministry
00:44:01in the
00:44:02holy place
00:44:02of the
00:44:02heavenly
00:44:03sanctuary
00:44:03and not
00:44:04paganism
00:44:05as Miller
00:44:06believed.
00:44:07Now I'm
00:44:08not putting
00:44:08down
00:44:08Miller.
00:44:10We follow
00:44:10the light
00:44:11that we
00:44:11have.
00:44:15Remember,
00:44:16William Miller
00:44:16also thought
00:44:17that the
00:44:17earth was
00:44:18the sanctuary
00:44:19that was
00:44:19spoken of
00:44:20in Daniel
00:44:208 verse
00:44:2014.
00:44:21He was
00:44:22incorrect,
00:44:23was he not?
00:44:23That's why
00:44:23there was
00:44:24a great
00:44:25disappointment.
00:44:28And what
00:44:29was shown
00:44:30just after
00:44:31the great
00:44:31disappointment
00:44:32to those
00:44:34faithful
00:44:34who had
00:44:35followed
00:44:35this same
00:44:36line of
00:44:36thought about
00:44:37the sanctuary,
00:44:38the sanctuary
00:44:38being earth,
00:44:39something followed
00:44:40immediately after
00:44:41the disappointment.
00:44:43And I'm
00:44:43talking the
00:44:44very next
00:44:45day.
00:44:47Well,
00:44:48they were
00:44:48shown the
00:44:48truth by
00:44:49another
00:44:49farmer.
00:44:51He was a
00:44:51Methodist from
00:44:52Port Gibson,
00:44:53New York.
00:44:54His name
00:44:56was Hiram
00:44:56Edson.
00:44:58He gathered
00:44:59a small
00:44:59group of
00:45:00fellow Adventists
00:45:01together for
00:45:01a prayer
00:45:01meeting in
00:45:02his barn on
00:45:03the morning
00:45:03of October
00:45:0423rd,
00:45:051844.
00:45:07And he
00:45:07came out
00:45:08of this
00:45:08meeting
00:45:08convicted
00:45:09that God
00:45:09would send
00:45:09them light
00:45:10regarding what
00:45:11had happened
00:45:11on October
00:45:1222nd,
00:45:131844.
00:45:13That great
00:45:14disappointment.
00:45:15They thought
00:45:15that Jesus
00:45:16was to come
00:45:16back again
00:45:17and cleanse
00:45:18the sanctuary
00:45:19they thought
00:45:19was the
00:45:19earth.
00:45:23And so,
00:45:23him together
00:45:25with his
00:45:25friend,
00:45:25O.R.L.
00:45:26Crozier,
00:45:27they leave
00:45:28this meeting.
00:45:29They set out
00:45:30across the
00:45:30cornfield on
00:45:31a mission to
00:45:32encourage other
00:45:32Adventist friends
00:45:34who were being
00:45:35ridiculed,
00:45:38who didn't want
00:45:39to show their
00:45:40faces,
00:45:41frankly.
00:45:41They were
00:45:41greatly
00:45:43disappointed.
00:45:46So,
00:45:46here they are.
00:45:47They're not
00:45:47using the road.
00:45:49They're out
00:45:50walking across
00:45:50the cornfield.
00:45:52And as they
00:45:53walked,
00:45:53Edson abruptly
00:45:54halted in
00:45:54front of
00:45:55Crozier and
00:45:55he stood
00:45:55frozen still
00:45:56while he
00:45:56had a
00:45:57special
00:45:58revelation
00:45:58from God.
00:46:01He later
00:46:01described it
00:46:02as having
00:46:03heaven opened
00:46:03before him
00:46:05and distinctly
00:46:06seen Jesus
00:46:06moving into
00:46:08the most
00:46:08holy place
00:46:09of the
00:46:10heavenly
00:46:10sanctuary
00:46:10at the
00:46:11end of
00:46:12the 2300
00:46:12days.
00:46:14And he
00:46:15was also
00:46:16reminded of
00:46:16the experience
00:46:17of John
00:46:18the Revelator
00:46:19there in
00:46:20Revelation
00:46:20chapter 10
00:46:21with regard
00:46:22to the
00:46:22little book
00:46:23and of
00:46:24the angels
00:46:24charge that
00:46:25they should
00:46:26prophesy
00:46:26again.
00:46:32Do you
00:46:32see it all
00:46:33lining up?
00:46:40So,
00:46:41what do we
00:46:42find?
00:46:43What do we
00:46:43find?
00:46:47We find
00:46:48that the
00:46:49prophecy
00:46:49of the
00:46:492300
00:46:52days
00:46:52has at
00:46:53the heart
00:46:53of it
00:46:54the
00:46:54sanctuary
00:46:55message.
00:46:57Which,
00:46:57friends,
00:46:57is the
00:46:58gospel
00:46:58message
00:46:59in
00:46:59symbols.
00:47:01So,
00:47:01Daniel is
00:47:01revealing
00:47:02to us
00:47:02information
00:47:03on how
00:47:03the
00:47:04little
00:47:04horn
00:47:04counterfeited
00:47:06the
00:47:06gospel
00:47:07ministry
00:47:08of
00:47:08Jesus.
00:47:10There
00:47:11are a
00:47:11number
00:47:11of
00:47:12elements
00:47:12in
00:47:13Daniel
00:47:13chapter 8
00:47:14which
00:47:14contribute
00:47:14to its
00:47:15orientation
00:47:16around
00:47:16the
00:47:17sanctuary.
00:47:17And we
00:47:18need to
00:47:19take
00:47:19serious
00:47:20note
00:47:20of
00:47:20these.
00:47:22It's
00:47:23right out
00:47:23in front
00:47:24of our
00:47:24eyes
00:47:25when you
00:47:25read
00:47:25Daniel
00:47:26chapter 8.
00:47:27That's why
00:47:28so many
00:47:28other
00:47:29Christians
00:47:29who don't
00:47:30know a
00:47:30thing
00:47:30about
00:47:30the
00:47:31sanctuary
00:47:31have
00:47:33so
00:47:33many
00:47:33terrible
00:47:37interpretations
00:47:38of what
00:47:38Daniel is
00:47:39trying to
00:47:39tell us.
00:47:41They
00:47:41don't
00:47:42understand
00:47:42the
00:47:42sanctuary.
00:47:44See,
00:47:44that was
00:47:44all part
00:47:45of the
00:47:45Jewish
00:47:45dispensation,
00:47:47right?
00:47:47the
00:47:47Old
00:47:48Testament.
00:47:49We're
00:47:49reading
00:47:50prophecy
00:47:50here,
00:47:51but what
00:47:51does it
00:47:51really
00:47:52mean?
00:47:54Well,
00:47:55we need
00:47:55to take
00:47:55note of
00:47:56it.
00:47:56And I've
00:47:56mentioned
00:47:57it from
00:47:58the beginning
00:47:58of our
00:47:58study in
00:47:59Daniel
00:47:59chapter 8.
00:48:01First,
00:48:02the use
00:48:03of sacrificial
00:48:04animals,
00:48:05the ram
00:48:05and the
00:48:05goat,
00:48:06to symbolize
00:48:07the nations,
00:48:07right,
00:48:08immediately,
00:48:09gives a
00:48:09sanctuary flavor
00:48:10to the vision
00:48:10here in
00:48:11chapter 8.
00:48:12This
00:48:13usage is
00:48:14in contrast
00:48:14with that
00:48:15of the
00:48:15wild beast
00:48:16present in
00:48:17the preceding
00:48:18vision that
00:48:18we find in
00:48:19chapter 7.
00:48:20Second,
00:48:21the reference
00:48:22to the
00:48:22four horns
00:48:23pointing out
00:48:24to the
00:48:24four winds
00:48:25to symbolize
00:48:25the breakup
00:48:26of the
00:48:27second world
00:48:27empire mentioned,
00:48:29that alludes
00:48:29to altar
00:48:31imagery.
00:48:32This
00:48:32reference to
00:48:33four horns
00:48:34would naturally
00:48:34have recalled
00:48:35to the mind
00:48:36of an ancient
00:48:37Israelite
00:48:38imagery drawn
00:48:39from the
00:48:40four horns
00:48:40of the
00:48:40sanctuary
00:48:41altars.
00:48:43Third,
00:48:45the sanctuary
00:48:45is explicitly
00:48:47referred to
00:48:47three times
00:48:48in this
00:48:48prophecy,
00:48:49in verses
00:48:5011,
00:48:50verses 13
00:48:51and 14.
00:48:53Fourth,
00:48:56references
00:48:56to the
00:48:57timid,
00:48:59right,
00:49:00and its
00:49:01use in
00:49:01the context
00:49:01of the
00:49:02sanctuary,
00:49:03that's
00:49:03another
00:49:03indication.
00:49:05Timid,
00:49:05which we
00:49:06know means
00:49:06daily or
00:49:07continual,
00:49:08is a word
00:49:08commonly used
00:49:09in connection
00:49:10with the
00:49:10sanctuary,
00:49:10approximately
00:49:1130 times.
00:49:13In addition
00:49:14to that
00:49:14common
00:49:15connection,
00:49:15the first
00:49:16two references
00:49:16here,
00:49:17verses 11
00:49:17and 12,
00:49:19immediately
00:49:19precede and
00:49:20follow the
00:49:20word for
00:49:21sanctuary.
00:49:23So that
00:49:24juxtaposition
00:49:25emphasizes even
00:49:26more strongly
00:49:26its function
00:49:27here as a
00:49:28sanctuary
00:49:28word.
00:49:30Fifth thing,
00:49:33and I
00:49:34haven't talked
00:49:34about this
00:49:34too much,
00:49:35but the
00:49:36evening
00:49:36morning
00:49:37being used
00:49:39as
00:49:39sanctuary
00:49:39days.
00:49:42The phrase
00:49:43evening
00:49:43morning
00:49:44was not
00:49:45the common
00:49:45way of
00:49:46expressing
00:49:46time in
00:49:47the Old
00:49:47Testament
00:49:47era.
00:49:48It just
00:49:48wasn't.
00:49:50Yet the
00:49:50prophetic
00:49:51time period
00:49:51mentioned
00:49:52here was
00:49:52measured off
00:49:53in evening
00:49:54mornings,
00:49:552,300
00:49:56of them.
00:49:58Since
00:49:58such a
00:49:58time unit
00:49:59is rather
00:50:00unique,
00:50:01it must
00:50:01have been
00:50:02chosen for
00:50:02a special
00:50:03reason,
00:50:04aside from
00:50:04the
00:50:05specifically
00:50:06chronological
00:50:06use of
00:50:07the evening
00:50:08and morning
00:50:08to demarcate
00:50:11the days of
00:50:13creation week
00:50:13in Genesis.
00:50:14The evening
00:50:15and the
00:50:16morning had
00:50:16a special
00:50:17connection
00:50:18with the
00:50:18sanctuary.
00:50:20One might
00:50:21think of
00:50:21the sacrifices
00:50:22of the
00:50:22burnt offering
00:50:23on the
00:50:24altar in
00:50:24the court.
00:50:26However,
00:50:28the connection
00:50:29of these
00:50:29rites with
00:50:30Daniel's
00:50:31evenings and
00:50:31mornings is
00:50:32not so
00:50:33direct.
00:50:35The
00:50:36biblical
00:50:36references
00:50:37to that
00:50:38practice
00:50:38always refer
00:50:39to it as
00:50:40taking place
00:50:40in the
00:50:41morning and
00:50:42the evening.
00:50:43Never the
00:50:44evening and
00:50:45the morning.
00:50:46Did anybody
00:50:47ever catch
00:50:47that in
00:50:48our studies
00:50:49here?
00:50:49I didn't
00:50:50point it
00:50:50out.
00:50:51So did
00:50:51you catch
00:50:52it though?
00:50:54A more
00:50:55direct
00:50:56connection
00:50:56of the
00:50:57evening and
00:50:59the morning
00:51:00with the
00:51:01sanctuary comes
00:51:01from God's
00:51:02instruction
00:51:02given in
00:51:03the wilderness
00:51:04for the
00:51:04lighting of
00:51:05the lamps.
00:51:06For example,
00:51:06in the
00:51:07holy place
00:51:08at the
00:51:08evening,
00:51:09you lit
00:51:10the lamps
00:51:11and in
00:51:11the morning
00:51:11was the
00:51:12trimming
00:51:13of the
00:51:13lamps.
00:51:15And these
00:51:16functions were
00:51:17to take
00:51:17place
00:51:17continually
00:51:18from
00:51:19evening to
00:51:20morning.
00:51:21Read about
00:51:21Exodus 27,
00:51:22Leviticus 24.
00:51:24At the same
00:51:25time, the
00:51:26priest was to
00:51:26burn incense on
00:51:27the golden
00:51:28altar in the
00:51:29holy place.
00:51:29this was
00:51:31also to
00:51:31be a
00:51:32continual
00:51:32or perpetual
00:51:33there's that
00:51:34word,
00:51:35timid.
00:51:37That was a
00:51:37practice that
00:51:38they were
00:51:38doing,
00:51:38Exodus 30.
00:51:40And during
00:51:41the wilderness
00:51:41wanderings,
00:51:42the time to
00:51:42carry out
00:51:43these activities
00:51:43in the
00:51:44sanctuary
00:51:44were marked
00:51:45off precisely
00:51:45by God
00:51:46himself.
00:51:48At
00:51:49evening,
00:51:50remember,
00:51:50the pillar of
00:51:51cloud turned
00:51:52into a
00:51:52pillar of
00:51:53fire.
00:51:53In the
00:51:54morning,
00:51:55the pillar of
00:51:55fire turned
00:51:56into a
00:51:56pillar of
00:51:57cloud.
00:51:57that's
00:51:58numbers 9.
00:52:01This kind
00:52:02of language
00:52:03in the
00:52:04Pentateuch,
00:52:05you know,
00:52:05the first
00:52:05five books
00:52:06of the
00:52:06Bible,
00:52:07sounds very
00:52:07much like
00:52:08the background
00:52:08for these
00:52:09sanctuary days
00:52:11in Daniel 8
00:52:12and verse
00:52:1314.
00:52:17And the
00:52:17sixth thing,
00:52:20the
00:52:20characterization
00:52:20of the
00:52:21two conversing
00:52:23holy ones
00:52:24in Daniel 8
00:52:24and verse
00:52:2513,
00:52:26these angels,
00:52:27this is an
00:52:28uncommon way
00:52:29to refer to
00:52:30angels or
00:52:30heavenly beings
00:52:31in the
00:52:31Old Testament.
00:52:33The rarity
00:52:34of such
00:52:35occurrences,
00:52:36again,
00:52:36emphasizes the
00:52:37probability that
00:52:38the terminology
00:52:39has been
00:52:40selected for
00:52:41special reasons.
00:52:44This is what
00:52:44we find,
00:52:45and we have
00:52:46found this to
00:52:46be true in
00:52:47almost every
00:52:49chapter in
00:52:50the book of
00:52:50Daniel.
00:52:51We find some
00:52:52of these,
00:52:52you can almost
00:52:53say,
00:52:54the use of
00:52:54these languages
00:52:55is almost like
00:52:56an anomaly.
00:52:57Why did he
00:52:58change from
00:52:59what is
00:52:59common?
00:53:00Because he's
00:53:01describing something
00:53:02that is
00:53:03uncommon.
00:53:03It's special,
00:53:04you see.
00:53:08These holy
00:53:09ones discuss
00:53:09the end of
00:53:10a prophecy
00:53:11that deals
00:53:12with the
00:53:12holy place,
00:53:13the sanctuary.
00:53:15In fact,
00:53:17the same
00:53:17Hebrew root
00:53:19has been
00:53:19used here
00:53:19to refer to
00:53:20both the
00:53:20sanctuary
00:53:21and these
00:53:22holy ones.
00:53:24And one
00:53:25thinks about
00:53:26angels in
00:53:27relation to
00:53:28the sanctuary,
00:53:29what do you
00:53:29think of?
00:53:32Specifically,
00:53:33two.
00:53:33There were
00:53:34two holy
00:53:34ones.
00:53:35When you
00:53:35think of
00:53:35the sanctuary,
00:53:36where do you
00:53:36find two
00:53:37angels?
00:53:39There are
00:53:39two in
00:53:40particular who
00:53:41stand out,
00:53:41aren't they?
00:53:43They are the
00:53:43two cherubim
00:53:44who were
00:53:44standing on
00:53:45the Ark of
00:53:46the Covenant
00:53:46and looking
00:53:47down upon
00:53:47its mercy
00:53:48seat,
00:53:48right?
00:53:48And where
00:53:52do you
00:53:52find the
00:53:52law of
00:53:53God?
00:53:54You find
00:53:55it within
00:53:56that,
00:53:57you find
00:54:00the tables
00:54:00of stone
00:54:01within that
00:54:01Ark of
00:54:02the Covenant
00:54:02that has
00:54:03the lid
00:54:03on it
00:54:03with the
00:54:04two angels
00:54:04looking down
00:54:05at it.
00:54:06And here
00:54:06in Daniel
00:54:068,
00:54:08the two
00:54:08angels are
00:54:09talking about
00:54:09what?
00:54:11When the
00:54:12judgment
00:54:12process
00:54:13begins.
00:54:15Where is
00:54:15the judgment
00:54:15taking place
00:54:17in the
00:54:17sanctuary?
00:54:18the most
00:54:19holy place?
00:54:22Are you
00:54:22starting to
00:54:23put it
00:54:23together,
00:54:24friends?
00:54:27But this
00:54:28is the
00:54:28kind of
00:54:29imagery that
00:54:30is brought
00:54:30to mind
00:54:31by the
00:54:31reference to
00:54:32the two
00:54:32holy ones
00:54:32there in
00:54:33Daniel 8,
00:54:34verse 13.
00:54:36It's
00:54:36remarkable.
00:54:38So these
00:54:38two holy
00:54:39ones,
00:54:40they're
00:54:40talking about
00:54:41when does
00:54:42the judgment
00:54:42begin?
00:54:44After
00:54:452,300
00:54:46days,
00:54:47then shall
00:54:47this
00:54:48sanctuary
00:54:48be
00:54:49cleansed?
00:54:56In
00:54:57summary,
00:54:58those six
00:54:59points,
00:55:00the use
00:55:01of sacrificial
00:55:02animals for
00:55:04symbols here,
00:55:05the reference
00:55:07to four
00:55:07horns,
00:55:08the mention
00:55:09of Tamed
00:55:10and sanctuary,
00:55:11the use
00:55:11of evening
00:55:12mornings as
00:55:13a time
00:55:13unit,
00:55:14the references
00:55:15to the
00:55:15two holy
00:55:16ones,
00:55:16all stress
00:55:17the connection
00:55:17of this
00:55:18prophecy with
00:55:18the heavenly
00:55:19sanctuary.
00:55:23I've got
00:55:24another quote
00:55:24from Farrell
00:55:25in his book
00:55:25of Daniel,
00:55:26page 101.
00:55:28Notice what
00:55:29Farrell says.
00:55:32He says,
00:55:32quote,
00:55:33We have
00:55:33earlier found
00:55:35that several
00:55:35key words
00:55:36in Daniel 8,
00:55:38verses 10
00:55:39through 13,
00:55:40are Hebrew
00:55:40words repeatedly
00:55:41used elsewhere
00:55:42in connection
00:55:43with the
00:55:44earthly
00:55:44sanctuary.
00:55:45Place,
00:55:46Hebrew word
00:55:47makan,
00:55:48sanctuary,
00:55:49two different
00:55:49words,
00:55:50mikdos and
00:55:51kodes,
00:55:51and we'll get
00:55:52to that in a
00:55:52moment,
00:55:53host,
00:55:53sabah,
00:55:55taken away,
00:55:56hurain,
00:55:57and daily,
00:55:58Tamed.
00:55:59All five
00:56:00verses,
00:56:01Daniel 8,
00:56:0110 through 14,
00:56:02are not only
00:56:03about the
00:56:03little horn,
00:56:04but also the
00:56:06sanctuary.
00:56:08End quote.
00:56:08Now,
00:56:12there is an
00:56:15enigma
00:56:15between these
00:56:17two verses
00:56:17that has
00:56:18perplexed
00:56:19many a
00:56:20Protestant
00:56:20scholar.
00:56:22In Daniel 8
00:56:23and verse 13,
00:56:24we have three
00:56:25noun phrases.
00:56:28We have
00:56:28the daily,
00:56:30the transgression
00:56:31of desolation,
00:56:32and both the
00:56:33sanctuary and
00:56:33the host.
00:56:36Notice that
00:56:37the last two
00:56:37are linked
00:56:38together,
00:56:38verse 1,
00:56:39to get both
00:56:39the sanctuary
00:56:40and the host
00:56:41to be trodden
00:56:41underfoot.
00:56:43We have,
00:56:44then,
00:56:44three elements
00:56:45that are to
00:56:45be understood
00:56:46at the end
00:56:47of the vision,
00:56:48which we know
00:56:49to be October
00:56:5022,
00:56:501844,
00:56:51right?
00:56:52However,
00:56:54and here is
00:56:54the supposed
00:56:55enigma.
00:57:00Daniel 8,
00:57:01verse 14,
00:57:02being the
00:57:03response to
00:57:03the question
00:57:04in verse 13,
00:57:06involving
00:57:06involving
00:57:06those three
00:57:08elements to
00:57:08be understood
00:57:09when the
00:57:09vision ends,
00:57:11supplies only
00:57:12one answer,
00:57:14which is not
00:57:15specific to
00:57:16those three
00:57:17terms,
00:57:18but more
00:57:19comprehensive.
00:57:23Notice that
00:57:24the answer
00:57:24is in context
00:57:27of the
00:57:27sanctuary.
00:57:28and this
00:57:29is why,
00:57:30and this
00:57:30is my
00:57:31opinion,
00:57:32but this
00:57:33is why
00:57:33these scholars
00:57:33have such
00:57:34a hard time
00:57:35as most
00:57:35believe that
00:57:35the actual
00:57:36sanctuary
00:57:36doesn't apply
00:57:37to any
00:57:38of these
00:57:38prophecies.
00:57:41Verse 14,
00:57:42what's it say?
00:57:43And he
00:57:45said unto me
00:57:45unto 2,300
00:57:47days,
00:57:47then shall
00:57:48the sanctuary
00:57:49be cleansed,
00:57:50the Hebrew
00:57:50word mitzak,
00:57:51which I
00:57:52mentioned a
00:57:52moment ago.
00:57:54How does
00:57:56this answer
00:57:57in verse 14
00:57:58help us
00:58:01understand those
00:58:02three terms?
00:58:04You grab
00:58:05the average
00:58:06Christian,
00:58:07you read
00:58:07Daniel 8,
00:58:0813 and 14,
00:58:10and ask them,
00:58:11what does that
00:58:11mean?
00:58:12And they'll
00:58:12say,
00:58:12I have no
00:58:13idea.
00:58:15How does
00:58:16verse 14
00:58:17answer verse
00:58:1713?
00:58:19I don't
00:58:20know.
00:58:22Now,
00:58:24Protestant
00:58:24ministers and
00:58:25scholars come
00:58:25up with all
00:58:26kinds of
00:58:26theories because
00:58:27they don't
00:58:27believe the
00:58:28Old Testament
00:58:29has any
00:58:29relevance for
00:58:30us today.
00:58:31Not really.
00:58:33So they
00:58:34don't study it
00:58:35much at all,
00:58:35you see.
00:58:37You tell
00:58:38me,
00:58:38what Protestant
00:58:39denomination on
00:58:40this earth
00:58:40teaches anything
00:58:41about the
00:58:42Old Testament
00:58:42sanctuary and
00:58:43its services.
00:58:46How many?
00:58:49I only
00:58:49find one.
00:58:52In fact,
00:58:52there's only
00:58:53one body of
00:58:53faith that
00:58:54does so,
00:58:54and it is
00:58:54the Seventh-day
00:58:55Adventist.
00:58:58Why is
00:58:59that?
00:59:00Go clear
00:59:01back.
00:59:02Remember
00:59:03a guy I
00:59:03just mentioned?
00:59:04Iron
00:59:04Edson?
00:59:06O.R.L.
00:59:07Crozier?
00:59:07The three
00:59:12terms or
00:59:13elements are
00:59:14to be
00:59:14comprehended in
00:59:15and through
00:59:16an understanding
00:59:17of the
00:59:18sanctuary.
00:59:20And I
00:59:21think here
00:59:21is where
00:59:21the beauty
00:59:22of the
00:59:22Hebrew
00:59:22language
00:59:23comes into
00:59:23play.
00:59:25We'll
00:59:25start with
00:59:26the action
00:59:27promised in
00:59:28the answer
00:59:28of verse
00:59:2914.
00:59:29Then
00:59:32shall the
00:59:32sanctuary
00:59:33be
00:59:34cleansed.
00:59:37Now,
00:59:38I hope
00:59:39I don't
00:59:40get too
00:59:40far in
00:59:40the weeds
00:59:41here.
00:59:43But the
00:59:43Hebrew word
00:59:44for cleansed,
00:59:45nitsadach,
00:59:46it contains
00:59:47three basic
00:59:48English meanings,
00:59:50all related
00:59:50to the root
00:59:51word
00:59:51sadach.
00:59:53That's the
00:59:53root word
00:59:54sadach.
00:59:55The various
00:59:55stem and
00:59:57verb forms
00:59:58of sadach
00:59:59have three
00:59:59basic
01:00:00meanings.
01:00:01So it
01:00:01could be
01:00:02mean as
01:00:02in translation,
01:00:03see,
01:00:04that's why
01:00:04the English
01:00:05can be
01:00:06terrible and
01:00:07it can cause
01:00:08a lot of
01:00:08confusion.
01:00:10It can
01:00:10mean,
01:00:11first of
01:00:11all,
01:00:11to put
01:00:12right or
01:00:12to restore.
01:00:14It can
01:00:15mean to
01:00:16cleanse.
01:00:18Or it
01:00:18can mean
01:00:19to vindicate.
01:00:23And so
01:00:23the daily,
01:00:25the first
01:00:26of those
01:00:26noun phrases
01:00:27included in
01:00:28the question
01:00:28of Daniel 8,
01:00:29verse 12,
01:00:30it has to
01:00:30be either
01:00:31one,
01:00:31restored or
01:00:32put right
01:00:33since 1844,
01:00:35it has to
01:00:36mean cleansed
01:00:37since 1844,
01:00:39or it has
01:00:39to mean
01:00:40vindicated
01:00:41since 1844.
01:00:44Was
01:00:45the sanctuary
01:00:47and the work
01:00:47of Christ's
01:00:48priestly ministry
01:00:49restored or
01:00:51set right
01:00:51before the
01:00:52inhabitants of
01:00:53the earth
01:00:53after the
01:00:54passing of
01:00:55October 22,
01:00:56second 1844?
01:00:59Yes.
01:01:00Knowledge and
01:01:01understanding of
01:01:02Christ's
01:01:03continual heavenly
01:01:04mediation was
01:01:05reestablished or
01:01:07restored to
01:01:09believers after
01:01:09that time with
01:01:10the message about
01:01:11the day of
01:01:12atonement,
01:01:13the judgment.
01:01:14Remember,
01:01:15Hiram Edson,
01:01:16the vision in
01:01:17the cornfield.
01:01:18That led
01:01:19Adventists to
01:01:20study deeply
01:01:21what?
01:01:23The sanctuary
01:01:24and its
01:01:24services.
01:01:26Why did they
01:01:27need to do
01:01:27that?
01:01:28Because
01:01:29Christendom
01:01:29hadn't been
01:01:30taught it.
01:01:32Why?
01:01:33Because the
01:01:34little horn
01:01:35had trampled
01:01:35it down.
01:01:37Are you
01:01:37starting to
01:01:38see it?
01:01:41The second
01:01:42noun phrase
01:01:43in the
01:01:44question to
01:01:45be understood
01:01:46of Daniel
01:01:468 and
01:01:47verse 13
01:01:48is
01:01:49transgression
01:01:50of
01:01:50desolation.
01:01:52Like I
01:01:53said before,
01:01:54transgression
01:01:54is from the
01:01:55Hebrew word
01:01:55Pesah.
01:01:57The
01:01:57transgression
01:01:58Pesah is
01:01:59directly connected
01:02:00with God's
01:02:00people as we
01:02:01read in
01:02:01Daniel 9
01:02:02and verse
01:02:0324.
01:02:04Look at
01:02:04it.
01:02:05Daniel 9
01:02:06verse 24.
01:02:06Let's read
01:02:07it.
01:02:08It says,
01:02:09Seventy
01:02:09weeks are
01:02:10determined
01:02:10upon thy
01:02:11people and
01:02:11upon thy
01:02:12holy city
01:02:13to finish
01:02:14the
01:02:14transgression
01:02:15Pesah
01:02:16rebellion.
01:02:18Right?
01:02:19Revolt.
01:02:20To finish
01:02:21the
01:02:21transgression
01:02:22to make
01:02:22an end
01:02:23of sins
01:02:24and to
01:02:25make
01:02:26reconciliation
01:02:26for iniquity
01:02:27and to
01:02:28bring in
01:02:28everlasting
01:02:29righteousness
01:02:29and to
01:02:31seal up
01:02:31the vision
01:02:32and prophecy
01:02:32and to
01:02:33anoint
01:02:33the most
01:02:34holy.
01:02:37The
01:02:38connection
01:02:40between
01:02:42transgression
01:02:43and God's
01:02:44faithful will
01:02:45be confirmed
01:02:45again in
01:02:46Leviticus 16.
01:02:47We're talking
01:02:47about the
01:02:47day of
01:02:48atonement.
01:02:48Right?
01:02:49Leviticus 16.
01:02:51But this
01:02:51side of the
01:02:52second coming,
01:02:53the only
01:02:54thing that
01:02:54needs to
01:02:54be cleansed
01:02:55in the
01:02:55heavenly
01:02:55sanctuary
01:02:56on the
01:02:57day of
01:02:57atonement
01:02:58is the
01:02:59confessed
01:02:59sins
01:03:00and
01:03:00transgression
01:03:00of God's
01:03:02people that
01:03:02have gone
01:03:03beforehand
01:03:03to the
01:03:04judgment.
01:03:06As we
01:03:06read in
01:03:071 Timothy 5
01:03:07and verse
01:03:0824,
01:03:09some men's
01:03:10sins are
01:03:10open
01:03:11beforehand,
01:03:12going
01:03:12before to
01:03:12judgment,
01:03:13and some
01:03:13men they
01:03:14follow
01:03:14after.
01:03:18And so,
01:03:19let's now
01:03:20apply the
01:03:21same three
01:03:22verbs to
01:03:23the sin
01:03:23interpretation
01:03:24of
01:03:25transgression
01:03:26and desolation
01:03:27to see if it will
01:03:27stand the test
01:03:28of investigation
01:03:29here.
01:03:29was the
01:03:34transgression
01:03:35of desolation
01:03:36to be
01:03:37restored,
01:03:38cleansed,
01:03:38or vindicated?
01:03:41Indeed,
01:03:42transgression
01:03:43or sin will
01:03:44be cleansed
01:03:44forever from
01:03:45the heavenly
01:03:45sanctuary and
01:03:46from heaven's
01:03:47books of
01:03:48record of
01:03:49God's people.
01:03:51Let's look
01:03:52at the
01:03:52noun phrase,
01:03:54both the
01:03:55sanctuary and
01:03:56the host.
01:03:59Were God's
01:04:00people and
01:04:01the heavenly
01:04:02sanctuary to
01:04:03be restored,
01:04:04cleansed,
01:04:04or vindicated
01:04:05since 1844?
01:04:08Absolutely,
01:04:08there's no
01:04:09enigma for
01:04:10those who
01:04:10understand the
01:04:11role of the
01:04:12sanctuary services
01:04:13in the
01:04:13prophecies.
01:04:14Chapter 8
01:04:16is,
01:04:17above all,
01:04:18a prophecy
01:04:19about the
01:04:19sanctuary and
01:04:20the relationship
01:04:21to it of
01:04:23two powers,
01:04:24the prince
01:04:24and the
01:04:25little horn.
01:04:26I mean,
01:04:27we are in a
01:04:27great controversy
01:04:28between two.
01:04:29Aren't we?
01:04:30Between Christ
01:04:31and Satan,
01:04:32right?
01:04:33Are we not?
01:04:34Isn't that what
01:04:34the great controversy
01:04:35is about?
01:04:38That's why
01:04:38there's only
01:04:39two churches.
01:04:40That's why
01:04:40there's only
01:04:41two spirits
01:04:41in the world.
01:04:45Speaking about
01:04:46the prince,
01:04:48Daniel's prophecy
01:04:49indicates that
01:04:51the prince of
01:04:51the host is
01:04:55not only a
01:04:55royal, but
01:04:57also a
01:04:57priestly figure.
01:04:58It draws
01:04:59attention to
01:05:00the prince's
01:05:00intercession
01:05:01in behalf
01:05:01of his
01:05:01people in
01:05:02the holy
01:05:02place of
01:05:03the heavenly
01:05:03sanctuary.
01:05:05And as
01:05:05we have
01:05:05seen,
01:05:07the
01:05:07tamed,
01:05:08the daily,
01:05:09was used
01:05:09with reference
01:05:10to the
01:05:10priestly
01:05:11activities
01:05:11performed in
01:05:12the court
01:05:13and in the
01:05:14holy place
01:05:14of the
01:05:15sanctuary.
01:05:16We learned
01:05:16earlier in
01:05:17previous studies
01:05:17that tamed
01:05:18is never
01:05:19used,
01:05:19the daily is
01:05:20never used
01:05:20with reference
01:05:21to an
01:05:21activity
01:05:21performed in
01:05:23the most
01:05:23holy place.
01:05:24it is this
01:05:26tamed
01:05:26ministry that
01:05:27the horn
01:05:27attempts to
01:05:28and succeeds
01:05:29in interrupting.
01:05:32And since
01:05:32the tamed
01:05:32refers only to
01:05:33the prince's
01:05:34first apartment
01:05:35ministry,
01:05:36the question
01:05:38that comes up
01:05:38is,
01:05:40I'm sure it's
01:05:41come up to
01:05:41you,
01:05:42especially after
01:05:42you read
01:05:43verse 14,
01:05:43what about
01:05:46the priestly
01:05:47work of the
01:05:47most holy
01:05:48place?
01:05:50Does the
01:05:51little horn
01:05:51affect the
01:05:52annual purification
01:05:54of the
01:05:54sanctuary as
01:05:55well?
01:05:58Daniel 8,
01:05:5914 answers
01:06:00the question.
01:06:02The expression,
01:06:04the tamed,
01:06:05the daily,
01:06:06used in
01:06:06prophecy points
01:06:07to the
01:06:08priestly
01:06:08activity of
01:06:09the prince
01:06:10in the
01:06:11holy place
01:06:11of the
01:06:12heavenly
01:06:12sanctuary.
01:06:13Since the
01:06:14sanctuary is
01:06:15the conceptual
01:06:17framework of
01:06:20the prophecy,
01:06:22it would be
01:06:23logical to
01:06:24have a
01:06:24reference also
01:06:25to his
01:06:26priestly
01:06:26activity in
01:06:28the most
01:06:28holy place,
01:06:29wouldn't it?
01:06:31Now,
01:06:33the Hebrew
01:06:36word
01:06:37nizdach,
01:06:38verse 14,
01:06:39which we
01:06:40touched on
01:06:40a moment
01:06:41ago,
01:06:41actually
01:06:43provides
01:06:43that
01:06:44reference.
01:06:46The
01:06:47day of
01:06:47atonement
01:06:47activity
01:06:48was the
01:06:50only day
01:06:51when the
01:06:51sanctuary
01:06:52was purified,
01:06:53was vindicated,
01:06:55was cleansed.
01:06:56let me share
01:07:00this as we
01:07:02kind of wrap
01:07:02this up
01:07:03here.
01:07:04This is
01:07:04from,
01:07:05again,
01:07:05Farrell's
01:07:06book,
01:07:07the book
01:07:07of Daniel,
01:07:08pages 88,
01:07:08page 103.
01:07:11Quote,
01:07:12it is also
01:07:12significant,
01:07:13pay attention
01:07:13to this,
01:07:14this is
01:07:14remarkable and
01:07:15just wonderful,
01:07:17instead of
01:07:17using the
01:07:18word
01:07:18mikdos,
01:07:19which means
01:07:19sanctuary,
01:07:20which is found
01:07:22in Daniel 8,
01:07:22verse 11,
01:07:23a different
01:07:24word,
01:07:26kodes,
01:07:27also translated
01:07:28as sanctuary,
01:07:30is used
01:07:30in Daniel 8,
01:07:31verses 13
01:07:32and 14.
01:07:33This was
01:07:34purposely done
01:07:35to direct
01:07:36our attention
01:07:37to Leviticus 16,
01:07:39the day of
01:07:40atonement,
01:07:41which is the
01:07:41magnificent
01:07:42heart of
01:07:44the Daniel 8,
01:07:46verse 14
01:07:47message.
01:07:48Notice what
01:07:49Farrell says
01:07:50here.
01:07:52He says,
01:07:53kodes,
01:07:54that word
01:07:55for sanctuary,
01:07:57kodes is
01:07:58the only
01:07:59word
01:08:00used for
01:08:01sanctuary
01:08:01in the
01:08:03day of
01:08:03atonement
01:08:04service.
01:08:06Could it
01:08:07be more
01:08:07obvious to
01:08:08us?
01:08:11He says,
01:08:12the emphasis
01:08:12in Daniel 8,
01:08:13verse 14,
01:08:14is on the
01:08:14second apartment
01:08:15cleansing.
01:08:17The kodes,
01:08:18sanctuary,
01:08:18in the question,
01:08:19Daniel 8,
01:08:2013,
01:08:20helps connect
01:08:22the question
01:08:22to the
01:08:23reply.
01:08:25The question
01:08:25is asked,
01:08:26how long
01:08:27shall the
01:08:28sanctuary and
01:08:29the host be
01:08:30trodden underfoot?
01:08:32Throughout the
01:08:32dark ages,
01:08:33the papacy had
01:08:34systematically used
01:08:37every possible
01:08:38device and
01:08:39threat to
01:08:39blot Christ's
01:08:40mediation from
01:08:41the minds of
01:08:42men.
01:08:43The place of the
01:08:44sanctuary was
01:08:44cast down,
01:08:45Daniel 8,
01:08:46verse 11.
01:08:46The pope's
01:08:47throne and
01:08:48the confessional
01:08:49and masses
01:08:50of his
01:08:50priests were
01:08:51substituted for
01:08:53the sanctuary
01:08:53in heaven.
01:08:55The sanctuary
01:08:55was trodden
01:08:56underfoot,
01:08:57Daniel 8,
01:08:5713.
01:08:58The intercession
01:09:00of Christ for
01:09:00mankind was
01:09:01despised and
01:09:02made a thing
01:09:03of naught.
01:09:04You had to go
01:09:05to a priest
01:09:05for confession,
01:09:06right?
01:09:08Daniel well
01:09:10understood the
01:09:11sanctuary service.
01:09:12The question
01:09:13was not how
01:09:13long will the
01:09:14first department
01:09:15ministry continue,
01:09:17but add to
01:09:18Matei,
01:09:19Hebrew,
01:09:20what happens
01:09:21when that
01:09:21ministry ends?
01:09:23The answer
01:09:24was that the
01:09:25anti-typical
01:09:26Nisdak,
01:09:27translated cleansing,
01:09:29in the King
01:09:30James Version,
01:09:31would begin,
01:09:32end quote.
01:09:36So we've got
01:09:37to pay attention
01:09:37to why words
01:09:38have been changed,
01:09:40why one word
01:09:40is used very
01:09:41frequently and
01:09:43all of a sudden
01:09:43another word is
01:09:44used.
01:09:44when we get
01:09:45down to
01:09:45certain elements
01:09:46in the
01:09:47prophecy.
01:09:48And here we
01:09:48find one.
01:09:50Daniel was
01:09:51tying verse
01:09:5313 and 14
01:09:54together.
01:09:56How would
01:09:57you know that
01:09:58if you didn't
01:09:58study the
01:09:59sanctuary and
01:09:59its services,
01:10:01like the vast
01:10:02majority of
01:10:02millions of
01:10:03Christians today?
01:10:07You ask
01:10:07them the
01:10:08question in
01:10:09verse 13,
01:10:10you tell them
01:10:11what the answer
01:10:11is in verse
01:10:1214,
01:10:12you say,
01:10:12what does that
01:10:13mean?
01:10:13They don't
01:10:13have a clue.
01:10:14But God
01:10:16has revealed
01:10:16it to us.
01:10:17And He's
01:10:18revealed it
01:10:18to us
01:10:19to reveal
01:10:19to the
01:10:20world.
01:10:27Here's a
01:10:28quote I'll
01:10:28end with
01:10:29from Hikes
01:10:30in the
01:10:31Daily
01:10:32Sourcebook,
01:10:38page 139.
01:10:39He says,
01:10:41quote,
01:10:41in regard to
01:10:43the word
01:10:43sanctuary in
01:10:44Daniel 8,
01:10:45the shift
01:10:46from
01:10:46mikdos in
01:10:47verses 11
01:10:48and 12
01:10:48to kodes in
01:10:49verses 13
01:10:50and 14
01:10:50of Daniel 8
01:10:51comes about
01:10:52because kodes
01:10:53is the key
01:10:54term used
01:10:55in Leviticus
01:10:5516,
01:10:56verses 16,
01:10:5719,
01:10:57and 30
01:10:58relative to
01:10:59the cleansing
01:11:00of the
01:11:01sanctuary on
01:11:01the day of
01:11:02atonement.
01:11:03In other
01:11:04words,
01:11:04notice what
01:11:05he says
01:11:05here.
01:11:06When the
01:11:07context
01:11:08regarding
01:11:08the
01:11:08sanctuary
01:11:09deals
01:11:10with
01:11:11cleansing,
01:11:14kodes
01:11:14is
01:11:15always
01:11:16used.
01:11:18The
01:11:19reader
01:11:19will also
01:11:20find that
01:11:21kodes is
01:11:21another
01:11:22terminological
01:11:23link between
01:11:24itself and
01:11:25Leviticus
01:11:2516,
01:11:26as kodes
01:11:27is used
01:11:28no less
01:11:28than seven
01:11:29times in
01:11:30Leviticus
01:11:3016 to
01:11:31designate
01:11:32the most
01:11:33holy
01:11:34place.
01:11:36End
01:11:37Quote.
01:11:41Daniel 8
01:11:42and verse
01:11:4514
01:11:46constitutes
01:11:47the
01:11:48climax
01:11:49of the
01:11:50vision
01:11:50and
01:11:52immediately
01:11:53precedes
01:11:53explanation.
01:11:56And there
01:11:57are several
01:11:57key
01:11:58considerations
01:11:59which must
01:12:00be taken
01:12:01into account
01:12:01as we
01:12:02analyze
01:12:02this
01:12:04very
01:12:05important
01:12:05all
01:12:05important
01:12:06verse,
01:12:07verse 14.
01:12:08And we're
01:12:08going to
01:12:08begin that
01:12:09in our
01:12:09next study.
01:12:10Let's bow
01:12:10our heads
01:12:11and have
01:12:11a word of
01:12:11prayer.

01:12:20your holy
01:12:20name
01:12:21that you
01:12:23are making
01:12:24it clearer
01:12:25and clearer
01:12:25to each
01:12:27and every
01:12:27one of us
01:12:28as we
01:12:29delve
01:12:30into these
01:12:31prophecies
01:12:32for our
01:12:34day,
01:12:35the time
01:12:35of the
01:12:35end.
