00:00:00Hello friends, I'm Pastor Joe Lasswell.
00:00:11Welcome you to our study here at this time.
00:00:14We're going to be finishing up here Daniel chapter 8.
00:00:19And I wanted to revisit something here in Daniel 8 before we move on to Daniel chapter 9.
00:00:25And of course Daniel chapters 8 through 12 are all a part of this explanation of the vision that Daniel saw here in Daniel chapter 8.
00:00:34And we're going to get into wrapping up 8.
00:00:36But it will roll right into 9.
00:00:38It's very important some things here towards the end of Daniel 8 that lead us into Daniel 9.
00:00:46Daniel 9 is going to be very exciting.
00:00:49Of course I think so.
00:00:51I think Daniel 7 and 8.
00:00:53In fact the entire book of Daniel has been exciting.
00:00:56And I hope that you've learned a lot.
00:00:58I've learned.
00:00:58And of course if you come to the Bible and you don't learn something, you better step back.
00:01:05You should always learn something when you come to God's Word.
00:01:09God's promise is to lead us into all truth.
00:01:12And we need to have the Holy Spirit in order for that to happen.
00:01:15And so before we get into our study here at this time, we want to ask the Lord to be with us.
00:01:21So I invite you to kneel if possible.
00:01:23If you can't physically kneel, let's bow our hearts together and our heads in reverent awe as we come before our Creator.
00:01:33Father in heaven, we do thank you for this wonderful time that we have to come together here on this Holy Sabbath day.
00:01:40A day you made to be with us for angels of heaven, to be with each and every one of us as we come to worship thee and praise thee for who and what you are.
00:01:49That you are loved.
00:01:51That you are a compassionate Creator.
00:01:55A loving God.
00:01:58A just God.
00:02:00And you want to be with us.
00:02:02You've made a way for that to happen.
00:02:04And you gave us Jesus.
00:02:05We praise your name for that.
00:02:06Jesus.
00:02:07All heaven poured out in Jesus to save us.
00:02:12This dark world that we're in of sin.
00:02:16He showed us how to live a righteous life and he died a death that we deserved.
00:02:20So that we may have eternal life.
00:02:23And we must accept that gift.
00:02:24And choose Jesus as not only our Savior, but our Lord as well.
00:02:32And to be obedient servants to him.
00:02:35We thank you for Jesus.
00:02:36We ask for the Holy Spirit to be poured out upon us as we study your word here this morning.
00:02:42I pray that you be near each and every person.
00:02:45That you cultivate their hearts to be open to this truth that we find in your word.
00:02:51And not just to cover it up, but to share it with those around.
00:02:56Father, we ask forgiveness for our sins.
00:02:59We claim the blood that Jesus shed for us.
00:03:02We pray that we may be found worthy each and every moment of every day.
00:03:08And aid Jesus in the cleansing of the sanctuary by overcoming our sins.
00:03:15Father, I pray that you be with those who couldn't be with us here today.
00:03:18The things that have happened in this past week which just are shocking to our senses of the outright evil.
00:03:30And we pray that you will help all who have witnessed these things and those who are suffering from them.
00:03:36And we pray for them as well.
00:03:38That you will be very near to them.
00:03:40And that people may come to know thee through such things.
00:03:43May they reach hearts and bring honor to thee and glory to thee.
00:03:54I pray in the name of Jesus who is so worthy.
00:03:56Amen.
00:03:58And amen.
00:04:01Excuse me.
00:04:03It's good to be with you again, friends.
00:04:05This is a message, or I would say episode 12, in our study of Daniel chapter 8.
00:04:16Daniel chapter 8.
00:04:17And this set of studies that I call the desolator.
00:04:21The desolator.
00:04:22Again, this is episode 12.
00:04:23This is going to be the last study for Daniel 8.
00:04:27And what I want to do, I want to revisit the main maure.
00:04:31You remember that word, vision.
00:04:33The main maure of chapter 8, before going into chapter 9.
00:04:37And that is about the cleansing of the sanctuary that's in heaven.
00:04:40That maure.
00:04:42It is our present truth, by the way.
00:04:44And so it's very important for us to understand so we can share it with the world.
00:04:50Now I want to share three quotes with you quickly here as we get into our study.
00:04:58The first one comes from the book, The Great Controversies.
00:05:03It's on page 409.
00:05:06I want you to notice what it says here.
00:05:08Quote,
00:05:08The scripture which above all others had been both the foundation and central pillar of the Advent faith
00:05:15was the declaration unto 2,300 days.
00:05:20Then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
00:05:23Of course, that's Daniel 8 and verse 14.
00:05:25The next quote I have for you as we're getting started here is from Manuscript Releases, Volume 1 and page 99.
00:05:34And it said, quote,
00:05:35Daniel's prophecies...
00:05:37What prophecies are we talking about?
00:05:41What prophecies are we studying currently?
00:05:43Daniel's prophecies, right?
00:05:45It says,
00:05:46Daniel's prophecies have their proper place in the first, second, and third angel's messages.
00:05:54That's Revelation chapter 14.
00:05:58She says,
00:05:59First, second, and third angel's messages to be given to the world.
00:06:02Daniel's prophecies have their proper place.
00:06:06And the third one I want to share with you is from Testimonies for the Church, Volume 5, page 76.
00:06:19Volume 5, page 7...
00:06:22I'm sorry.
00:06:23Volume 5, page 716.
00:06:25I don't know where I got 76.
00:06:27I'm distracted by something over there.
00:06:30Quote,
00:06:30Let the watchmen...
00:06:32Are we watchmen on the walls?
00:06:34Those who are followers of Jesus Christ are indeed in this time of the end.
00:06:39The watchman's on the wall.
00:06:41Let the watchmen now lift up their voice.
00:06:43Give the message which is present truth for this time.
00:06:48Let us show people where we are in prophetic history.
00:06:55End quote.
00:06:56Now, I've shared that with you off and on during my entire ministry.
00:07:03Let us show people where we are in prophetic history.
00:07:07We are in the time of the end.
00:07:10Has not Daniel shown us where we are in prophetic history?
00:07:14And that this is the time of the end, which began in 1798 A.D., we've learned.
00:07:20And also, we're in the pre-Advent judgment that began in 1844 A.D.
00:07:25We've learned that.
00:07:27What is the pre-Advent judgment?
00:07:29It is the cleansing of the sanctuary.
00:07:34You see, friends,
00:07:36each of us has a part in this entire scenario of how God has to deal with the sin issue.
00:07:44Now, some of you say, well, how do we have a part, Pastor?
00:07:48In this cleansing of the sanctuary.
00:07:50Well, as Paul said in Romans 3 and verse 23,
00:07:56For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
00:08:00You see, Adam's sin marred the divine image in humanity, in mankind.
00:08:09And ever since mankind's fall, all of Adam's descendants have continued to fall short
00:08:15and be destitute of the image and glory of God, meaning to have come short of the perfection of God,
00:08:22to have lost his image, and to have become destitute of his likeness
00:08:27in having a loving, that's agape, and righteous character.
00:08:31And so, Paul is urging humanity to recognize the vital fact that fallen mankind,
00:08:40with his corrupt nature,
00:08:42is wholly capable or incapable.
00:08:48He's capable of having a righteous character through Christ,
00:08:51but he's wholly incapable of fulfilling the requirements of God's law,
00:08:56and of establishing his own righteousness,
00:09:00which the little horn has contradicted and said,
00:09:03Oh, yeah, man can have his own righteousness.
00:09:06He can merit salvation.
00:09:08He just needs to come to a priest to do that.
00:09:17You see, the only possible way to obtain righteousness is by faith in Jesus Christ
00:09:21and his ministerial work on our behalf, you see.
00:09:26And as our high priest in heaven right now,
00:09:29it is Christ that is cleansing the sanctuary of sin,
00:09:32and it has everything to do with what we are choosing to do every day.
00:09:36To sin or not to sin, that is the question.
00:09:44To sin or not to sin?
00:09:51Let's consider that.
00:09:52When Adam sinned, our loving God pointed forward to a time
00:09:56when a Savior would come to save him from his sins.
00:09:58He did this by sacrificing a lamb,
00:10:03a symbol of the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world.
00:10:08Blood of a lamb was sacrificed in the place of the blood of Adam, you see,
00:10:13for without the shedding of blood,
00:10:15the Bible tells us there is no forgiveness for sin.
00:10:18When God led Moses and the people of Israel out of the bondage of Egypt,
00:10:24he gave them his law again at Sinai
00:10:27and instituted the sanctuary and its services there in the wilderness.
00:10:33And there were countless sacrifices offered every day by faith
00:10:38for the sins of each person in Israel.
00:10:41Friends, you could say that blood flowed through the sanctuary.
00:10:44When the temple was built in Jerusalem
00:10:50and the services moved there,
00:10:52again, there were countless sacrifices offered.
00:10:55And every day, blood flowed as a river
00:10:58all the way out of that sanctuary to the Kidron Valley.
00:11:02Can you imagine the daily amount of flesh and blood
00:11:06that was in the courtyard each day?
00:11:09There were gallons and gallons of blood
00:11:15that flowed like a stream all the way to the valley.
00:11:18For example,
00:11:21at the dedication of King Solomon's temple,
00:11:25the celebrants sacrificed 22,000 cattle.
00:11:29They sacrificed 120,000 sheep
00:11:33just over a two-week period.
00:11:35Friends, that's 10,000 animals per day.
00:11:40That's over 10,000 animals per day on average.
00:11:44There were so many offerings
00:11:48that Solomon had to set up additional altars
00:11:51in the temple courtyard.
00:11:53You can read about it all in 1 Kings chapter 8.
00:11:55And those were thank offerings.
00:12:03Primarily.
00:12:04They weren't sin offerings.
00:12:05It was a dedication.
00:12:06Those were thank offerings.
00:12:08Think now about all the sin offerings
00:12:10brought to the courtyard every day.
00:12:13It was enormous.
00:12:17It was also big business,
00:12:18but that's a topic for another time.
00:12:23Big, big business.
00:12:25Let me share this quote with you
00:12:27from the Review and Herald,
00:12:28November 10, 1896.
00:12:30Quote,
00:12:30The rivers of blood that flowed
00:12:32at the harvest thanksgiving,
00:12:34when the sacrifices were offered
00:12:36in such large numbers,
00:12:38were meant to teach a great truth.
00:12:41They were meant to teach
00:12:43a great truth.
00:12:46What is that truth?
00:12:48Well, friends,
00:12:54it's the truth that culminates
00:12:55in Daniel 8 and verse 14.
00:13:02Daniel 8 and verse 14,
00:13:03And he said unto me,
00:13:06unto two thousand and three hundred days,
00:13:10then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.
00:13:14You see,
00:13:16the blood's going to stop flowing.
00:13:18A day's coming where the blood
00:13:20will stop flowing.
00:13:24What took the blood in there?
00:13:26Sin!
00:13:28It was to cover our sins.
00:13:30One day that blood's going to stop flowing.
00:13:32One day that blood's going to stop flowing.
00:13:32And as we learned
00:13:37in this series of studies,
00:13:40on the strength of that prediction,
00:13:43Daniel 8 and verse 14,
00:13:45thousands of children
00:13:46of God expected the Savior
00:13:48to come back to earth
00:13:49on October 22, 1844 A.D.
00:13:53Now, did Jesus return on that day in 1844?
00:13:57No.
00:13:58Jesus did not come to earth on that day.
00:14:00However,
00:14:02as we've learned in our study
00:14:04in the book of Daniel,
00:14:05Jesus did go somewhere
00:14:06on that special date.
00:14:08It was a special date.
00:14:11It is a date that is marked
00:14:12by Bible prophecy
00:14:13and all God's righteous creation
00:14:16as a grand event.
00:14:20So, if not back to this earth,
00:14:22where did Jesus go
00:14:23on October 22, 1844?
00:14:27Where did He go?
00:14:28Well, we have learned
00:14:31that Jesus traveled
00:14:32from one particular place
00:14:33of ministry,
00:14:35right?
00:14:37And ministerial duties
00:14:39in the sanctuary
00:14:40to a different particular place
00:14:43of ministry duties.
00:14:46Which is of the utmost importance
00:14:47to each one of us sinners
00:14:49saved by grace on this earth, friends.
00:14:50We've learned that Jesus
00:14:54left the holy place
00:14:55of the heavenly sanctuary,
00:14:56entered into the most holy place
00:14:58where He could begin
00:14:59the cleansing
00:14:59of the sanctuary,
00:15:01just as is stated
00:15:03by Daniel here
00:15:04in verse 14.
00:15:06Because, of course,
00:15:08the place to cleanse
00:15:09the sanctuary
00:15:09is where?
00:15:11In the sanctuary.
00:15:12And the typical
00:15:15sanctuary service
00:15:16makes it clear
00:15:17that the special service
00:15:19of cleansing
00:15:20the sanctuary
00:15:20takes place
00:15:21in the most holy place.
00:15:24And so,
00:15:25on the 22nd of October
00:15:27in 1844 AD,
00:15:29that long prophetic period
00:15:31of 2300 years there
00:15:33of Daniel 8 and verse 14,
00:15:35the longest time prophecy
00:15:36in the Bible,
00:15:38it came to an end.
00:15:38And Jesus
00:15:40entered upon His work
00:15:42in that second room
00:15:43of the heavenly temple.
00:15:45Let me share this with you.
00:15:46Message 59,
00:15:49written in 1900,
00:15:50pages 8 and 9,
00:15:51quote,
00:15:51The people will not have
00:15:52another message
00:15:53upon definite time.
00:15:54Why?
00:15:55Because the longest time prophecy
00:15:57in the Bible
00:15:58ended
00:15:59in 1844 AD.
00:16:03She says,
00:16:03The people will not have
00:16:04another message
00:16:05upon definite time.
00:16:07And by the way,
00:16:08that should
00:16:13put to rest
00:16:15some of these teachers
00:16:17out there
00:16:18teaching dual
00:16:21fulfillments of prophecy.
00:16:25You know,
00:16:25Sunday law is going to be
00:16:26three and a half years.
00:16:27We don't have a message
00:16:29upon definite time.
00:16:30That ended in 1844 AD,
00:16:31beloved.
00:16:33She goes on,
00:16:34she says,
00:16:34The longest reckoning
00:16:35reaches to the autumn
00:16:36of 1844.
00:16:38That's
00:16:41message 59.
00:16:44Let me look that up.
00:16:45Here's another one.
00:16:46Selected Messages,
00:16:47Volume 2,
00:16:47page 73.
00:16:49Quote,
00:16:49The Lord
00:16:49had been pleased
00:16:51to show me
00:16:52that there would be
00:16:53no definite time
00:16:54in the message
00:16:55given of God
00:16:56since 1844.
00:16:58End quote.
00:16:59Let's put that to rest.
00:17:01You have somebody
00:17:02teaching something
00:17:03different than that?
00:17:05Don't walk with that
00:17:06teacher no more.
00:17:07They're mistaken.
00:17:08Or at least bring it
00:17:09to their attention
00:17:09if they poo-poo it.
00:17:12You know,
00:17:12they're teaching
00:17:15false theories
00:17:16and doctrines.
00:17:17Now,
00:17:19there are several
00:17:20texts besides
00:17:21this one
00:17:22in Daniel 8
00:17:23that points
00:17:23specifically
00:17:24to this particular
00:17:25date of October
00:17:2622nd,
00:17:271844.
00:17:29Revelation
00:17:29chapter 11
00:17:31and verse 19.
00:17:33Notice what
00:17:34John writes here.
00:17:35He says,
00:17:35And the temple
00:17:36of God was opened
00:17:37in heaven,
00:17:37and there was seen
00:17:38in his temple
00:17:39the ark
00:17:40of his testament.
00:17:41And there were
00:17:43lightnings
00:17:44and voices
00:17:44and thunderings
00:17:45and an earthquake
00:17:46and great hail.
00:17:49What does this
00:17:50verse say happened?
00:17:53The temple
00:17:54of God was opened.
00:17:55Where is the
00:17:56temple of God?
00:17:57It's in heaven.
00:17:59What was seen
00:18:00in the temple?
00:18:01The ark
00:18:02of his testament.
00:18:04Who saw it?
00:18:05People down here
00:18:06in this world.
00:18:08Early Adventists
00:18:09such as Hiram Edson
00:18:10who saw this event
00:18:12in vision
00:18:13while walking
00:18:13through a cornfield
00:18:14on October 23rd,
00:18:161844.
00:18:18You see,
00:18:18it was the day
00:18:19after Adventists
00:18:21had expected
00:18:22Jesus to return
00:18:23to earth,
00:18:23and when he hadn't,
00:18:25they were greatly
00:18:26disappointed,
00:18:27of course.
00:18:28They did the math.
00:18:29They knew something
00:18:30was supposed to happen,
00:18:31and they sought the Lord
00:18:32as to their mistaken
00:18:33understanding
00:18:34as to what was
00:18:35to happen.
00:18:37Not when it was
00:18:38to happen,
00:18:38because they got
00:18:39that right.
00:18:40And so as
00:18:42Edson and his friend
00:18:43Crozier were
00:18:44walking through
00:18:45the cornfield,
00:18:46you say,
00:18:47well,
00:18:47why are they
00:18:47walking through
00:18:47the cornfield?
00:18:49Well,
00:18:49they weren't
00:18:49walking on the road
00:18:50because they wanted
00:18:51to avoid the
00:18:52scoffing neighbors,
00:18:53you see,
00:18:54because of the
00:18:55disappointment.
00:18:55They had been
00:18:56preaching what
00:18:57Miller had shown
00:18:58was Jesus was
00:18:59coming back.
00:19:00That was a mistake.
00:19:02And so they're
00:19:03walking through
00:19:04this cornfield,
00:19:05and they're talking
00:19:05about,
00:19:06where did we go
00:19:08wrong?
00:19:09What is wrong
00:19:10with what we
00:19:11have studied?
00:19:12And then Edson
00:19:13saw heaven open up,
00:19:14and Jesus in the
00:19:15most holy place
00:19:16where the ark
00:19:16is located.
00:19:20And with the
00:19:21prophetic telescope,
00:19:23with the eye
00:19:24of faith,
00:19:25he beheld
00:19:26wondrous scenes
00:19:27transpiring within
00:19:28the inner veil
00:19:29of the sanctuary,
00:19:31and he shared it
00:19:32among the
00:19:32Adventist brethren.
00:19:33Now,
00:19:37in the typical
00:19:38sanctuary,
00:19:39which was a copy
00:19:40of the true one
00:19:41in heaven,
00:19:43according to
00:19:43Hebrews 9,
00:19:44verse 24,
00:19:46the ark was
00:19:47in the most
00:19:47holy place,
00:19:48which was the
00:19:49center of the
00:19:50service of the
00:19:51day of atonement.
00:19:52That's the
00:19:52typical day of
00:19:53judgment.
00:19:55That's where the
00:19:56sanctuary was
00:19:57cleansed of sin,
00:19:58you see.
00:19:59So this is in
00:20:00connection with
00:20:01the beginning of
00:20:01the seventh trumpet
00:20:02that John sees
00:20:03the temple in
00:20:04heaven,
00:20:05and very
00:20:05particularly the
00:20:07ark of his
00:20:08testament.
00:20:10And this
00:20:11indicates that
00:20:12the second and
00:20:13last division of
00:20:14Christ's heavenly
00:20:14ministry,
00:20:15the typical day of
00:20:16atonement,
00:20:18has opened.
00:20:21And this is what
00:20:22Daniel saw in
00:20:22vision.
00:20:24Mare in Daniel
00:20:258,
00:20:25verse 14,
00:20:27though the
00:20:27vision confused
00:20:28him.
00:20:30And John,
00:20:30here in Revelation
00:20:3111 and 19,
00:20:32goes right along.
00:20:32Along with Daniel
00:20:338 and verse 14.
00:20:36But we also have
00:20:38the parable of the
00:20:39ten virgins,
00:20:39right?
00:20:40Matthew 25.
00:20:41Where the
00:20:42bridegroom comes
00:20:42and those who
00:20:43are ready,
00:20:44they do what?
00:20:46They go in with
00:20:47him to the
00:20:47marriage feast.
00:20:48And so,
00:20:49this heavenly
00:20:49bridegroom went
00:20:50in, you see,
00:20:51within the
00:20:52intervail,
00:20:53on the 22nd of
00:20:54October,
00:20:541844 A.D.,
00:20:55to receive his
00:20:57kingdom.
00:20:58And when that
00:21:00work is
00:21:00accomplished,
00:21:02you know what's
00:21:03going to happen?
00:21:03He's going to
00:21:04come get us.
00:21:04He's going to
00:21:05take us home.
00:21:06He's going to
00:21:07take us to be
00:21:08with our
00:21:08Father in
00:21:08heaven.
00:21:12And so,
00:21:12there are many
00:21:13verses in the
00:21:13Bible dealing
00:21:14with this
00:21:15wonderful work
00:21:16that Jesus is
00:21:16doing up there
00:21:17in the most
00:21:17holy place.
00:21:18Now, let's
00:21:19go to
00:21:20Hebrews 8
00:21:21verses 1
00:21:23and 2 as
00:21:23we seek to
00:21:24enter in more
00:21:25fully into an
00:21:26understanding of
00:21:26what Jesus is
00:21:27doing for us.
00:21:28Right now,
00:21:29in dealing with
00:21:30the stream of
00:21:31sins flowing,
00:21:32like the blood
00:21:32of all those
00:21:33sacrifices that's
00:21:35flowing into the
00:21:36sanctuary.
00:21:38Hebrews 8
00:21:39verse 1,
00:21:39Now the things
00:21:40which we have
00:21:41spoken, this is
00:21:42the sum, Paul
00:21:44says, we have
00:21:45such a high
00:21:46priest who sat
00:21:46on the right
00:21:47hand of the
00:21:47throne, of
00:21:48the majesty
00:21:49in the heavens,
00:21:50a minister of
00:21:51the sanctuary,
00:21:52and of the
00:21:53true tabernacle
00:21:54which the Lord
00:21:55pitched, and
00:21:56not man.
00:21:59You'll notice
00:21:59that Paul is
00:22:00summing up all
00:22:02that he has
00:22:02said in this
00:22:03epistle.
00:22:04He said, now
00:22:05the things which
00:22:06we have spoken,
00:22:07this is the
00:22:07sum.
00:22:09What is the
00:22:10sum, Paul?
00:22:12Oh, the sum
00:22:13of it all is
00:22:14that we have a
00:22:14high priest, and
00:22:16he's in that
00:22:17sanctuary in
00:22:18heaven, the
00:22:19true tabernacle,
00:22:20you know, the
00:22:20real sanctuary,
00:22:21which this one
00:22:22that Moses made,
00:22:23it's a copy of
00:22:24it, just a
00:22:25shadow, just an
00:22:26illustration.
00:22:29The friends,
00:22:30copies and
00:22:31illustrations have
00:22:32their purpose,
00:22:32don't they?
00:22:34For by looking at
00:22:35the copy, we
00:22:37should learn
00:22:37something about
00:22:38the original,
00:22:39right?
00:22:40By looking at
00:22:41the shadow, we
00:22:42learn something
00:22:42about the
00:22:43substance.
00:22:43By getting
00:22:44acquainted with
00:22:45what went on
00:22:47in that ancient
00:22:48sanctuary, we
00:22:49understand better
00:22:49what Jesus is
00:22:50doing for us in
00:22:51the presence of
00:22:52God right now.
00:22:55Now, the
00:22:58subject of the
00:23:00sanctuary is not
00:23:00something that we
00:23:02can master in an
00:23:02hour or maybe
00:23:04not even in a
00:23:05week or a month
00:23:06or a lifetime,
00:23:06really.
00:23:08You know, I
00:23:09believe a million
00:23:10years from now
00:23:11we'll be sitting
00:23:13in a class in
00:23:14the school of
00:23:15the hereafter
00:23:15and learning some
00:23:16new and wonderful
00:23:17things about the
00:23:18plan of redemption
00:23:19as revealed in the
00:23:21sanctuary and its
00:23:22services.
00:23:24Why do you say
00:23:25that, Pastor Joel?
00:23:27Because one of my
00:23:28favorite scriptures
00:23:29in all of the
00:23:31Bible is Psalm
00:23:3277 and verse
00:23:3313.
00:23:35Thy way, O
00:23:36God, is in
00:23:38the sanctuary.
00:23:40And so, while we
00:23:42learn something
00:23:43about it here and
00:23:45now, and of
00:23:46course we must if
00:23:47we're to understand
00:23:48correctly the books
00:23:49of Daniel and
00:23:49Revelation, and I
00:23:50shared that as we
00:23:51started this series,
00:23:53we're going to
00:23:55learn more and
00:23:55more about it
00:23:56through the
00:23:57endless ages of
00:23:57eternity.
00:23:58And that's why I
00:23:59said that there
00:24:00are events in
00:24:01history that are
00:24:03recognized and
00:24:03will be remembered
00:24:05by all righteous
00:24:06creation.
00:24:10Now, I would
00:24:11like to have us
00:24:11look at the
00:24:12general lesson of
00:24:13the sanctuary, the
00:24:15synopsis, if we
00:24:17can.
00:24:18I think we've all
00:24:19heard the expression
00:24:21not seeing the
00:24:22forest for the
00:24:23trees.
00:24:24Have you ever
00:24:24heard that?
00:24:26Well, there are
00:24:26a great many
00:24:27details in the
00:24:28sanctuary service, and
00:24:29God made it that
00:24:30way.
00:24:31And we do well to
00:24:32study the details.
00:24:33But sometimes I
00:24:34think we need to
00:24:35back off, as it
00:24:36were, and look at
00:24:38the lesson as a
00:24:39whole.
00:24:41Kind of see the
00:24:42big picture.
00:24:44See what it's all
00:24:45about.
00:24:47In the greater
00:24:48context.
00:24:50And I think this
00:24:51will help us as we
00:24:51continue on into
00:24:52chapter 9 of
00:24:54Daniel.
00:24:55In fact, I know
00:24:55it will.
00:24:57And onward.
00:25:00And so, I would
00:25:01like you to see
00:25:02three things.
00:25:04And just three
00:25:05main things as we
00:25:06go along here.
00:25:08One is the
00:25:09courtyard of the
00:25:11sanctuary.
00:25:12One is the holy
00:25:12place of the
00:25:13sanctuary.
00:25:14And one is the
00:25:14most holy place.
00:25:17And in the
00:25:18courtyard, and in
00:25:21the holy place, and
00:25:25in the most holy
00:25:26place, I want you
00:25:28to see Jesus.
00:25:30Because that which
00:25:31makes the sanctuary
00:25:32meaningful is the
00:25:34presence of Jesus.
00:25:38And I think that's
00:25:39what Paul says here
00:25:40in Hebrews 8, verse
00:25:411, which we read
00:25:43earlier.
00:25:44Now the things which
00:25:45we have spoken, this
00:25:46is the sum.
00:25:47We have such an
00:25:48high priest who is
00:25:50set on the right
00:25:50hand of the throne
00:25:51of the majesty in
00:25:52the heavens.
00:25:55You see, friends,
00:25:56without the presence
00:25:57of Jesus, the
00:25:57sanctuary, I believe,
00:25:59is meaningless.
00:26:00But with His
00:26:02presence, I think
00:26:05it's glorious and
00:26:06beautiful.
00:26:07And so, we're not
00:26:08going to be studying
00:26:09so much about the
00:26:10furniture and the
00:26:11veils, you know, and
00:26:13the implements and
00:26:14the services.
00:26:15We touched on some of
00:26:16those things earlier.
00:26:17And I trust you've all
00:26:18studied those things and
00:26:19continue to study them.
00:26:22I encourage you to do
00:26:23that.
00:26:23But I'd like to have
00:26:24us look at Jesus and
00:26:25what He does in the
00:26:26courtyard.
00:26:27I want to look at
00:26:28Jesus and what He does
00:26:29in the holy place.
00:26:30I want to look at
00:26:31Jesus and what He does
00:26:32in the most holy place.
00:26:36Now, I want you to
00:26:37notice something, that
00:26:38what Jesus does in
00:26:39these three places is
00:26:40in reference to two
00:26:41things.
00:26:43One is you, the
00:26:46individual, the
00:26:47person.
00:26:49The other is the
00:26:50law of God.
00:26:53You see, that law is
00:26:55enshrined in the ark
00:26:57on the tables of
00:26:58stone written by the
00:26:59finger of God, which
00:27:00is why it is called the
00:27:01ark of God's
00:27:01testament or the ark
00:27:03of God's covenant.
00:27:06That law and you have
00:27:07a very definite
00:27:09relationship, friends.
00:27:11If you're a sinner, that
00:27:13law tells you that you
00:27:14are a sinner.
00:27:16That's what Paul said.
00:27:18He said that the law
00:27:19told him that he was a
00:27:20sinner.
00:27:20Romans 7, verse 7.
00:27:22Paul said, what shall
00:27:23we say then?
00:27:24Is the law sin?
00:27:25God forbid.
00:27:27Nay, I had not known
00:27:29sin, but by the law.
00:27:31For I had not known
00:27:33lust, except the law
00:27:34had said, thou shalt
00:27:34not covet.
00:27:36And Paul's making it
00:27:37very clear exactly what
00:27:38law he's talking about.
00:27:40And it's not the law
00:27:41of Moses, but the
00:27:42Ten Commandment laws.
00:27:43He points out the
00:27:44Seventh Commandment
00:27:44here.
00:27:47And the great reason
00:27:48that so few people
00:27:50today are really
00:27:51convicted of sin is
00:27:52that they don't read
00:27:53the Ten Commandment
00:27:53Law.
00:27:54They don't study
00:27:55the Ten Commandment
00:27:57Law.
00:27:58They don't hear the
00:27:59Ten Commandment
00:27:59Law preached.
00:28:02It's become old
00:28:03fashioned or, oh, that's
00:28:04for the Jews only, or
00:28:06that's in the Old
00:28:06Testament, we don't
00:28:07read that.
00:28:08We're in the New
00:28:09Testament, the New
00:28:09Covenant.
00:28:10It's out of date.
00:28:13It's out of date to
00:28:14preach the Ten
00:28:14Commandment Law of God.
00:28:16Oh, friends, you may
00:28:17hear, nine of the
00:28:19commandments preached
00:28:20from time to time, but
00:28:23not all ten, as the
00:28:25Sabbath is removed, you
00:28:26see, the Sabbath day.
00:28:28But we'll get to that
00:28:28more in depth later in
00:28:31our prophecy series here.
00:28:34We can't help it.
00:28:35That's where the Bible
00:28:36leads us.
00:28:39But what you find
00:28:40today from most
00:28:41pulpits is a
00:28:43sentimental preaching of
00:28:44what is called the
00:28:45Gospel.
00:28:46That sloppy agape,
00:28:48you know, which
00:28:48removes any
00:28:49consequences for sin
00:28:50because love is all
00:28:52we need.
00:28:54This is the new law,
00:28:56we learned, that the
00:28:57Catholic Church says.
00:28:59But in reality, it's
00:29:00the law of Thelema.
00:29:01Remember when I spoke
00:29:02about that?
00:29:02Which essentially is,
00:29:04do as thou will
00:29:05shall be the whole
00:29:06law.
00:29:08Of course, you realize
00:29:09that that is what
00:29:10Satan said to Eve back
00:29:11in the Garden of Eden.
00:29:14But the Ark of God
00:29:15contains some things
00:29:16within it.
00:29:19There were items in it.
00:29:21And in Revelation 11,
00:29:23John saw in God's
00:29:25most holy place in
00:29:26heaven, the Ark.
00:29:27And within it was
00:29:28the Ten Commandments
00:29:30law of God.
00:29:32And what does that
00:29:33law do?
00:29:35Paul says,
00:29:37that law convicts
00:29:39of sin.
00:29:41And the Bible says
00:29:42that the wages of sin
00:29:43is what?
00:29:44Is death.
00:29:46And so,
00:29:49I say,
00:29:50between the law
00:29:51and the sinner,
00:29:52there is a direct
00:29:53relationship.
00:29:54The law convicts the
00:29:55sinner and condemns
00:29:56him to death.
00:29:58That's why we need
00:29:59the sanctuary.
00:29:59And that is why we
00:30:00need Jesus as a
00:30:02Savior and a
00:30:02Redeemer.
00:30:03Right, friends?
00:30:05You'll remember in
00:30:06Matthew 1, verse 21,
00:30:07the angel said to
00:30:08Joseph,
00:30:09Joseph, and thou
00:30:10shall call his name
00:30:11Jesus, that means
00:30:13Savior, for he shall
00:30:16save his people, what's
00:30:18that next word?
00:30:20From, from what?
00:30:23Their sins.
00:30:25And right there is the
00:30:26difference between the
00:30:27true gospel and the
00:30:28false gospel.
00:30:29There's a false gospel
00:30:30that's very popular
00:30:31today.
00:30:32And even very popular
00:30:34within the professed
00:30:35church of God, offering
00:30:37to save people in
00:30:38their sins.
00:30:39But the true gospel
00:30:40proposes to save
00:30:42people from their
00:30:43sins.
00:30:46I could spend hours
00:30:48preaching just on
00:30:49that, and I have.
00:30:51But never forget it.
00:30:52Matthew 1, verse 21.
00:30:55And everything that
00:30:56Jesus does, all along
00:30:57the way through the
00:30:58sanctuary, is to save
00:30:59people from their
00:31:01sins.
00:31:03Would you like to be
00:31:04saved from sin?
00:31:07Are you sure?
00:31:10Friends, God has a
00:31:11great problem in the
00:31:12end times.
00:31:13And we've been told
00:31:14about this problem in
00:31:15Revelation chapter 3.
00:31:17And the great problem
00:31:18is to get people to
00:31:19even want to be saved.
00:31:21Even among God's
00:31:22professed people, it is
00:31:23a huge problem.
00:31:27Why so, pastor?
00:31:30Because most of God's
00:31:32professed people are in
00:31:33a spiritual, lukewarm
00:31:35condition.
00:31:35They're not hot and
00:31:37on fire for God, nor
00:31:38are they cold and
00:31:39disinterested in God.
00:31:41They're lukewarm.
00:31:43A mixture of the two,
00:31:44you see.
00:31:45And that sets them at
00:31:46ease with their half
00:31:47converted condition.
00:31:48Telling them they're
00:31:48all right, you see,
00:31:50with God.
00:31:51We're good with God.
00:31:53And the Bible says that
00:31:54Jesus will vomit them
00:31:55out of his mouth.
00:31:58Revelation chapter 3,
00:31:59verse 15.
00:32:00Here Jesus says,
00:32:01I know thy works,
00:32:03that thou art neither
00:32:04cold nor hot.
00:32:07I would thou wert
00:32:08cold or hot.
00:32:09So then, because thou
00:32:10art lukewarm, and
00:32:12neither cold nor hot,
00:32:13I will spew thee out
00:32:14of my mouth.
00:32:16Because thou sayest I
00:32:17am rich and increased
00:32:18with goods, and have
00:32:19need of nothing, and
00:32:21knowest not that thou
00:32:22art wretched and
00:32:23miserable and poor and
00:32:24blind and naked.
00:32:27But friends, I've got
00:32:28some good news for you.
00:32:32I've got some good news.
00:32:39There is one thing
00:32:40still.
00:32:42One thing that will put
00:32:43the heat in our heart.
00:32:46And that is to see the
00:32:47expensive cost that
00:32:48heaven has made through
00:32:49the sanctuary to get
00:32:50rid of sin.
00:32:53Sin must be a terrible
00:32:54thing to cost such a
00:32:55price.
00:32:55And salvation must be
00:32:58the most precious thing
00:32:59to be given to us
00:33:01through such an
00:33:01expensive plan.
00:33:04Let's think it through.
00:33:06And so I repeat that
00:33:07Jesus, as he comes into
00:33:09the sanctuary, he's
00:33:10dealing with two things.
00:33:11He's dealing with the
00:33:12law on one side, and
00:33:14he's dealing with the
00:33:14sinner on the other.
00:33:17Now the law of God is
00:33:19located in the ark, in
00:33:20the most holy place of
00:33:21the sanctuary.
00:33:22And it's beneath what is
00:33:23called the mercy seat.
00:33:25The law, friends, the
00:33:28Ten Commandment law is
00:33:29the foundation of God's
00:33:30throne.
00:33:31The foundation of his
00:33:32government in heaven and
00:33:34in earth.
00:33:35In fact, it is a
00:33:36transcript of his
00:33:37character.
00:33:38It can't be changed as
00:33:40God cannot change
00:33:41himself.
00:33:42He is perfect.
00:33:43Therefore, his law is
00:33:44perfect.
00:33:46And what did Jesus say
00:33:47about the law?
00:33:49Jesus said one letter
00:33:50of it would never pass
00:33:51away.
00:33:52Matthew 5, verse 18.
00:33:54For verily I say unto
00:33:55you, till heaven and
00:33:56earth pass, one jot or
00:33:58one tittle shall in no
00:33:59wise pass from the law,
00:34:01till all be fulfilled.
00:34:03Pastor Brooks used to
00:34:04say, stamp your foot on
00:34:05the ground, the earth's
00:34:06still there.
00:34:07Look up in the sky, you
00:34:08see the clouds.
00:34:13None of it's passed away.
00:34:18And neither has God's
00:34:19law.
00:34:20I remember that like it
00:34:21was yesterday.
00:34:22Old Pastor Brooks.
00:34:25Now, remember I said we
00:34:26were looking at the
00:34:27courtyard and we're
00:34:28looking at the holy
00:34:29place and the most holy
00:34:30place of the sanctuary.
00:34:32And so I want you to
00:34:33think about that now.
00:34:35And let me ask you a
00:34:36question.
00:34:38You're thinking about the
00:34:39courtyard.
00:34:39You're thinking about the
00:34:40holy place.
00:34:41You're thinking about the
00:34:42most holy place, right?
00:34:44Put yourself there.
00:34:45I've got a question for
00:34:46you.
00:34:47Where is the sinner
00:34:48located?
00:34:49Where is the sinner?
00:34:52What are you thinking
00:34:53about?
00:34:53You're thinking about the
00:34:54sanctuary, right?
00:34:55Where is the sinner
00:34:55located?
00:34:56Is he located in the most
00:34:57holy place?
00:34:59No, he's not in the most
00:35:04holy place.
00:35:05Is he in the holy place?
00:35:09No.
00:35:11He's not there.
00:35:13Is he in the courtyard?
00:35:14Now think about that
00:35:15before you answer.
00:35:16No, the sinner is
00:35:19entirely outside the
00:35:20sanctuary, friends.
00:35:22The sinner cannot come
00:35:23into God's presence or
00:35:24he would cease to exist.
00:35:26The sinner cannot enter
00:35:27heaven, you see.
00:35:28That's taught so vividly
00:35:30all throughout the
00:35:30sanctuary services,
00:35:31throughout the Bible.
00:35:34But there is a way that
00:35:35he can come.
00:35:37If he's willing to be
00:35:38separated from sin and
00:35:39have sin separated from
00:35:41him, see.
00:35:43He can come into the
00:35:44sanctuary only if he is
00:35:45willing to walk by
00:35:46faith in Christ, who
00:35:48will separate him from
00:35:49sin.
00:35:51Now, this separation
00:35:54work begins in the
00:35:55courtyard, and if you
00:35:56had been living back
00:35:56there, in the time of
00:35:59Moses and his
00:36:00wilderness sanctuary, the
00:36:01thing that probably
00:36:02would have impressed
00:36:03you the most would be
00:36:04this process of
00:36:05removing sin.
00:36:08Day after day, hour
00:36:10after hour, sacrifices
00:36:12were being made there
00:36:13in the courtyard.
00:36:15So, here comes the
00:36:17man.
00:36:18With the lamb, he's
00:36:20bringing to the door of
00:36:21the courtyard, and
00:36:21notice that he brings a
00:36:23sacrifice with him.
00:36:24He's not by himself, is
00:36:25he?
00:36:27You see, by himself, he's
00:36:29not exercising faith in
00:36:30Christ.
00:36:32But with the sacrifice, he
00:36:33is.
00:36:34And so, the man comes with
00:36:35the lamb, and he puts
00:36:37his hands on the head of
00:36:38that lamb, and he
00:36:39confesses his sin.
00:36:42Symbolically transferring
00:36:43his sin from himself to
00:36:45that lamb.
00:36:46And then he takes the
00:36:47knife from the priest, and
00:36:49he slays the sacrifice by
00:36:51cutting his throat
00:36:52himself.
00:36:55And here comes another
00:36:56man.
00:36:57He's leading a bullock.
00:37:00He lays his hands on the
00:37:01bullock.
00:37:01He confesses his sin.
00:37:02He takes the knife.
00:37:04He slays the bullock by
00:37:05cutting its throat
00:37:06himself.
00:37:08And day by day, the
00:37:09stream of blood flows as
00:37:11men bring their offerings,
00:37:12their sacrifice.
00:37:14They confess their sins, and
00:37:16they slay the victim.
00:37:20Now, what did all this
00:37:21represent?
00:37:26Every one of those
00:37:28sacrifices represented one
00:37:29sin, one person, one
00:37:32event.
00:37:35The animal represented
00:37:36Jesus with the load of
00:37:38our sins upon him, dying
00:37:40on Calvary.
00:37:42And that's what it all
00:37:43meant.
00:37:46And it's all summed up,
00:37:47really, in these words from
00:37:51John the Baptist, John 1
00:37:52and verse 29.
00:37:54Behold the Lamb of God,
00:37:55which taketh away the sin
00:37:56of the world.
00:37:59Jesus is the Lamb, and he
00:38:00bears the burden of our
00:38:01sin.
00:38:05Now, what Jesus does for us
00:38:07in the court, he died
00:38:09for us, the just for the
00:38:11unjust.
00:38:12Isaiah 53, verse 6 says,
00:38:14All we like sheep have
00:38:15gone astray.
00:38:16We have turned everyone to
00:38:17his own way, and the Lord
00:38:18hath laid on him, as Jesus,
00:38:21the iniquity of us all.
00:38:25And that's why we speak of
00:38:27him as our substitute, because
00:38:28he takes our place in dying
00:38:31for sin.
00:38:31The law in the ark says
00:38:36that I am a sinner, and
00:38:37that I deserve to die, but
00:38:38out in the courtyard of the
00:38:39sanctuary, a substitute is
00:38:41accepted in my place.
00:38:44And as I confess my sins, and
00:38:46my iniquity is placed on him,
00:38:48and he dies for me, the
00:38:49just for the unjust.
00:38:54Well, it's all over then,
00:38:55isn't it?
00:38:58That's all I've got to do.
00:38:59It's all over with.
00:38:59Oh, no, friends.
00:39:04Oh, no.
00:39:05The cleansing of sins just
00:39:07begun.
00:39:08And that's what many people
00:39:09don't see.
00:39:11They suppose that when Jesus
00:39:13in dying on the cross said
00:39:14it is finished, that
00:39:15everything in the salvation
00:39:16process was finished, but
00:39:17that's not the case.
00:39:20Some things were finished,
00:39:22and that is what Christ was
00:39:24talking about then when he
00:39:25said it is done.
00:39:26But some things were just
00:39:27beginning.
00:39:28Let's turn to Hebrews 9,
00:39:29we'll look at verse 11.
00:39:32Hebrews 9.
00:39:34We'll start with verse 11.
00:39:36But Christ being come and
00:39:37high priest of good things
00:39:38to come, by a greater and
00:39:40more perfect tabernacle, not
00:39:42made with hands, that is to
00:39:43say, not of this building.
00:39:44Verse 12.
00:39:45Neither by the blood of
00:39:46goats and calves, but by his
00:39:48own blood he entered in, once
00:39:50into the holy place, having
00:39:52obtained eternal redemption
00:39:54for us.
00:39:55Look at verse 24.
00:39:58For Christ is not entered into
00:40:01the holy places made with
00:40:02hands, which are the figures
00:40:04of the true, but into heaven
00:40:07itself, now to appear in the
00:40:10presence of God for us.
00:40:15Now friends, these verses make
00:40:16very clear that when Jesus had
00:40:18died for us as our lamb, our
00:40:21substitute, he was our sacrifice,
00:40:23he must then go into the
00:40:25heavenly sanctuary and appear
00:40:26for us in the presence of God
00:40:28as our high priest.
00:40:31Now all that was typified in
00:40:33the ancient service.
00:40:35For back there, as Leviticus 4
00:40:40makes clear, when the man had
00:40:41brought his offering and
00:40:43confessed his sin and the
00:40:44sacrifice was slain, then the
00:40:45priest must take that blood and
00:40:47he must minister it in the
00:40:49sanctuary.
00:40:50Well, how did the priest minister
00:40:53the blood?
00:40:55Well, the throat was cut of the
00:40:59sacrifice, the priest took some
00:41:01of that blood, he went into the
00:41:03holy place, and what he did was
00:41:05he sprinkled it upon the golden
00:41:07altar of incense.
00:41:08He sprinkled blood before the veil,
00:41:11you see, which represented the
00:41:12forgiveness of sin, the covering
00:41:15of sin by the blood, the life of
00:41:18Jesus Christ.
00:41:20And so it's written in Psalm 32,
00:41:23verse 1,
00:41:23Blessed is he whose transgression
00:41:25is forgiven, whose sin is
00:41:27covered.
00:41:29And know this, friends, while Jesus
00:41:32died upon the cross for all men,
00:41:35that blood covers the sins of only
00:41:37those who confess them and forsake
00:41:39them.
00:41:42Many Christians don't realize that
00:41:43because they don't read the Bible,
00:41:45they don't study it.
00:41:46Another one of my favorite
00:41:49scriptures is found in the book of
00:41:501 John.
00:41:51It's 1 John 1, verse 9.
00:41:53It says,
00:41:54If we confess our sins,
00:41:56He is faithful and just to forgive
00:41:58us our sins.
00:41:59If we do what?
00:42:03If we confess our sins,
00:42:05then what?
00:42:07He's faithful and just to forgive us
00:42:09our sins.
00:42:11He doesn't stop there.
00:42:11And to cleanse us from all
00:42:14unrighteousness.
00:42:16And so, you see that while the
00:42:18sacrifice of Jesus in the court,
00:42:20that is, this world,
00:42:22the sacrifice of Jesus there in
00:42:24Gethsemane, because that's where
00:42:25He began to shed blood,
00:42:27while He prayed for us
00:42:29and Himself to have the strength
00:42:32to carry it out and die on the cross.
00:42:35So, while the sacrifice of Jesus in the
00:42:40court, in this world,
00:42:41the sacrifice of Jesus in Gethsemane
00:42:43and Calvary, was to make it possible
00:42:45for all men to be saved,
00:42:47but all men are not saved.
00:42:50Many, the vast majority, the Bible
00:42:52tells us, choose not to be saved.
00:42:56There's a work that must be done in the
00:42:58sanctuary for all men.
00:43:00The blood shed outside made it possible
00:43:02for all men to be saved.
00:43:05But the blood is sprinkled in the
00:43:06holy place, is only for those who
00:43:08confess and forsake their sin.
00:43:16Have you, friends, by faith in Jesus
00:43:18confessed your sins to God?
00:43:23If you confess your sin, then Christ
00:43:24has covered your sin in the sanctuary
00:43:26with His precious blood.
00:43:28And I'm so glad our faith can be
00:43:31simple.
00:43:31Well, that's very simple.
00:43:34For I'm a simple man.
00:43:37I'm a simple Hoosier.
00:43:43You know, everybody here has sinned.
00:43:46We read that.
00:43:48But right down through the church
00:43:50runs a line.
00:43:52That's not a line made by the
00:43:54center aisle in the church.
00:43:55It's a line that only heaven knows.
00:43:58We're all sinners, friends.
00:44:00But I repeat, through all sinners
00:44:02runs that line.
00:44:04On one side of the line are those who
00:44:06have had their sins all covered by the
00:44:08blood of Jesus and taken into the
00:44:09sanctuary.
00:44:10And on the other side are those who
00:44:12have not confessed all their sins.
00:44:14And only Jesus knows where the line is, though you know somewhat about yourself.
00:44:22You can't know about me, but you can know about yourself.
00:44:26And I'll tell you, beloved, that it is a wonderful thing that the Holy Spirit has sent to
00:44:34convict us of sin.
00:44:37Now, we tend to hate it, you know, being convicted of sin.
00:44:41But what we need to do is learn to love.
00:44:44That God is showing us where we need to be cleansed so we can be more like Jesus in every way.
00:44:50We should love God for giving us the opportunity through faith in Christ to stop our flow of sin
00:44:57and that blood entering into the sanctuary.
00:45:02That's what Jesus said he was going to sin in the Holy Spirit for in John 16 and verse 8.
00:45:09We read there,
00:45:10And when he has come, the Holy Spirit, he will reprove the world of sin
00:45:14and of righteousness
00:45:16and of judgment.
00:45:20And so, before we can receive
00:45:21that righteous robe of character from Jesus,
00:45:25we must see our sins as transgressions
00:45:27of God's law.
00:45:29We must see ourselves
00:45:31as doomed to death,
00:45:33then repent of those sins,
00:45:35lay them on Jesus,
00:45:38see him as our slain sacrifice,
00:45:40our suffering
00:45:41substitute,
00:45:42and accept his promised blessing of forgiveness
00:45:46and pardon,
00:45:47covering us through his shed blood.
00:45:52Well,
00:45:53those are two things that Jesus does for us.
00:45:56And so the court was to show us
00:45:58what he did in dying for us at Calvary
00:46:00and washing away our sins
00:46:01at the laver there in the courtyard.
00:46:04And the holy place is to show us
00:46:06what he does in living for us,
00:46:10teaching us from the bread of life,
00:46:11from the table of showbread,
00:46:13filling us with the oil of the Holy Spirit
00:46:16from the candlestick,
00:46:17adding his words to our prayers
00:46:19at the altar of incense.
00:46:24Jesus is carrying our names
00:46:25to the very throne of God
00:46:27and representing us
00:46:28as our advocate,
00:46:29our priest,
00:46:31taking our sins
00:46:32and covering them
00:46:33with his precious blood.
00:46:34Well now,
00:46:38pastor,
00:46:38that's all,
00:46:39isn't it?
00:46:41No.
00:46:42That isn't all there is.
00:46:44There's one more thing
00:46:44that Jesus does.
00:46:46We're looking at the big picture,
00:46:48the greater context
00:46:50of the sanctuary,
00:46:52what Jesus is doing
00:46:53in heaven for us.
00:46:56And so as Jesus must go
00:46:57from the court
00:46:59to the holy place,
00:47:00so he must go
00:47:04from the holy
00:47:04to the most holy.
00:47:07And you see,
00:47:08the most holy place
00:47:09is what he entered on,
00:47:11entered into
00:47:12on October 22,
00:47:131844 A.D.
00:47:15And that is the work
00:47:16that all heaven
00:47:17is focused on right now
00:47:19and has been
00:47:19for almost two centuries.
00:47:20And what is that third thing
00:47:26that Jesus does for us
00:47:28in the sanctuary?
00:47:30And that's what
00:47:30our opening text
00:47:32and what we're talking about there
00:47:34as we close out
00:47:34Daniel chapter 8,
00:47:36verse 14.
00:47:38And he said unto me
00:47:39unto two thousand
00:47:40and three hundred days,
00:47:41then shall the sanctuary
00:47:42be cleansed.
00:47:46The sanctuary cleansed?
00:47:49Yes!
00:47:50Well, that raises
00:47:52two very interesting questions
00:47:54in my mind.
00:47:56Why would the sanctuary
00:47:57need to be cleansed?
00:48:00And the second one is,
00:48:02how would it be cleansed?
00:48:06Well, the reason the sanctuary
00:48:07needs to be cleansed
00:48:08is simply this, friends.
00:48:10The sins that have been
00:48:12taken into it
00:48:13through the blood
00:48:13have made it unclean.
00:48:15It has made it defiled
00:48:17and filthy.
00:48:19And I'm not going to do it
00:48:20right now,
00:48:21but I encourage you
00:48:21to read Leviticus chapter 4
00:48:23and then go to
00:48:24Leviticus chapter 16
00:48:25and read it.
00:48:26And you'll see that
00:48:27after the sins
00:48:28had gone into the sanctuary,
00:48:30day after day
00:48:33after day,
00:48:34there was a service
00:48:35in Israel
00:48:35on the tenth day
00:48:36of the seventh month
00:48:38called the Day of Atonement.
00:48:39That was Judgment Day.
00:48:40This was the day
00:48:42to take the sins
00:48:43out of the sanctuary,
00:48:44to cleanse it
00:48:45from defilement.
00:48:48In Leviticus,
00:48:49the fourth chapter,
00:48:51you see the sins
00:48:52coming in
00:48:53as men confess
00:48:54their sins,
00:48:54but in the sixteenth
00:48:55chapter of Leviticus,
00:48:56you see the sins
00:48:57coming out.
00:49:01And if you were
00:49:02to take a time machine
00:49:03back to that time
00:49:05and watch this service,
00:49:06you'd see two goats
00:49:07brought to the door
00:49:08of the tabernacle
00:49:09at the beginning
00:49:10of that day,
00:49:11the Day of Atonement,
00:49:13the Judgment Day.
00:49:15You'd then see lots
00:49:16cast upon those two goats
00:49:18to see which one
00:49:18would represent the Lord
00:49:19and which one
00:49:21would represent Satan
00:49:22and that goat
00:49:23would be called
00:49:24the scapegoat.
00:49:26You would then see
00:49:27the Lord's goat slain
00:49:28and as every sacrifice
00:49:29slain in the court
00:49:30represented Jesus,
00:49:32this one represented
00:49:33Jesus as well,
00:49:34the goat of the sin offering
00:49:35for all the congregation
00:49:37that had confessed
00:49:38their sins
00:49:38and those sins
00:49:39that had been brought
00:49:40into the sanctuary.
00:49:43You would then see
00:49:44the high priest
00:49:45take the blood
00:49:46of that goat
00:49:47and as you follow him
00:49:49by the eye of faith
00:49:50where you can't look
00:49:51within the sanctuary,
00:49:54you know that he goes
00:49:55in to the holy place
00:49:57and he goes past
00:49:58the candlestick
00:49:59and the table
00:50:00of showbread
00:50:01and past the altar
00:50:02and there within
00:50:04the inner veil
00:50:05of the most holy place
00:50:06he appears
00:50:07at the mercy seat
00:50:08and he sprinkles
00:50:10that blood
00:50:10from the goat.
00:50:13Right?
00:50:16And this is done
00:50:17while covered
00:50:22with the cloud
00:50:23of a fragrant incense
00:50:24that is burning
00:50:25at the altar.
00:50:25and so what
00:50:28does it all mean?
00:50:31Well,
00:50:31it means once again
00:50:32to teach Israel
00:50:33that sin
00:50:34means death,
00:50:35that a substitute
00:50:36has been provided.
00:50:39But my dear friends,
00:50:41whereas those offerings
00:50:42through the year
00:50:42had brought the sin in,
00:50:44this offering
00:50:45makes it possible
00:50:45to take the sin out
00:50:47and that's what
00:50:48all heaven
00:50:49is interested in.
00:50:51You ask,
00:50:52how do you know that?
00:50:53How do you know that,
00:50:54Pastor?
00:50:56Well,
00:50:57let's look at
00:50:57Leviticus 16.
00:50:59We're going to look
00:50:59at verses 20-22.
00:51:03You notice that
00:51:04in the 14th verse,
00:51:06actually if you back up,
00:51:08he was to take the blood
00:51:09and sprinkle it
00:51:09before the mercy seat
00:51:10and upon the mercy seat.
00:51:12Then go on down
00:51:13to the 20th verse.
00:51:17Let's read from there.
00:51:19Leviticus 16,
00:51:20verse 20,
00:51:20and when he hath made
00:51:22an end of reconciling
00:51:25the holy place,
00:51:25he's making it clean,
00:51:28reconciling the holy place.
00:51:31He's done it,
00:51:32but not just the holy place.
00:51:36And the tabernacle
00:51:37of the congregation,
00:51:38it says,
00:51:38and the altar,
00:51:39he shall bring
00:51:40the live goat,
00:51:41you know,
00:51:42the one that still
00:51:42remained out there,
00:51:44and Aaron shall lay
00:51:45both his hands
00:51:46upon the head
00:51:47of the live goat,
00:51:47that's the scapegoat,
00:51:48and confess over him
00:51:50all the iniquities
00:51:51of the children of Israel
00:51:53and all their transgressions
00:51:55in all their sins,
00:51:56putting them
00:51:57upon the head
00:51:57of the goat,
00:51:58and shall send him
00:51:59away by the hand
00:52:00of a fit man
00:52:01into the wilderness.
00:52:03Right?
00:52:05Verse 22,
00:52:07and the goat
00:52:09shall bear upon him
00:52:10all their iniquities
00:52:12unto a land
00:52:14not inhabited,
00:52:17and he shall let go
00:52:19the goat
00:52:20in the wilderness.
00:52:24Well, let's think
00:52:25about that.
00:52:27Let's think about
00:52:29Leviticus 16,
00:52:30verses 20 to 22.
00:52:34Picture it in your mind.
00:52:36What's going on here?
00:52:41Aaron's at the door.
00:52:42of the sanctuary.
00:52:47The Lord's goat
00:52:48has been slain.
00:52:50Aaron has taken
00:52:51the blood in
00:52:52and sprinkled it
00:52:53upon the mercy seat,
00:52:55symbolically cleansing it
00:52:56by transferring
00:52:57those sins
00:52:58back to himself,
00:52:59temporarily.
00:53:01He comes out
00:53:02of the tabernacle now,
00:53:03and a man
00:53:04leads that live goat up,
00:53:05the scapegoat,
00:53:06and Aaron stands there,
00:53:07and notice the language
00:53:08is very clear,
00:53:10that Aaron was
00:53:11to put his hands
00:53:12where?
00:53:14Where did Aaron
00:53:15put his hands?
00:53:17On the head
00:53:17of the goat.
00:53:19And what was he
00:53:19to do
00:53:20while his hands
00:53:20were there?
00:53:21He was to confess
00:53:22all the iniquities
00:53:23of the children
00:53:24of Israel
00:53:24and all their
00:53:25transgressions
00:53:26and all their sins.
00:53:27Why did he do this?
00:53:33What is the next
00:53:34expression there
00:53:35in verse 21?
00:53:39Putting them.
00:53:40Puts his hands.
00:53:41Putting them.
00:53:42What is the them?
00:53:44The sins.
00:53:46Putting them where?
00:53:46Upon the head
00:53:47of the goat.
00:53:49Where did Aaron
00:53:49get those sins?
00:53:51He got them
00:53:51in the most holy
00:53:52place of the sanctuary.
00:53:54Where was the goat
00:53:54going to take them?
00:53:55way off into
00:53:56the wilderness.
00:53:59Now,
00:53:59don't misunderstand,
00:54:00friends.
00:54:01The live goat
00:54:03couldn't pay
00:54:06the debt
00:54:07of sin.
00:54:10That's not
00:54:11what's being
00:54:12talked about here.
00:54:14Some Christians
00:54:15will try to say
00:54:16that in all this,
00:54:19that the scapegoat
00:54:21has become
00:54:22the Redeemer
00:54:23instead of Christ.
00:54:24that shows
00:54:26an incredible
00:54:26misunderstanding
00:54:27of the law
00:54:27of God,
00:54:29really,
00:54:30of mankind
00:54:30and the plan
00:54:31of salvation.
00:54:33What's being
00:54:34spoken of here
00:54:35is talking about
00:54:36the getting rid
00:54:37of sin
00:54:38and sending it
00:54:38back to where
00:54:39it came from
00:54:39in the beginning.
00:54:42And so,
00:54:42where did sin
00:54:43originate?
00:54:43Did it originate
00:54:44with God?
00:54:46No!
00:54:47God is perfect.
00:54:49God's law
00:54:50is perfect.
00:54:50Where did sin
00:54:53originate?
00:54:53It originated
00:54:54with Lucifer,
00:54:55with Satan.
00:54:57And just as
00:54:58all the love
00:54:58in the universe
00:54:59originated with God
00:55:00and originally
00:55:01and eventually
00:55:02flows back to Him,
00:55:03so all the sin
00:55:04in this universe
00:55:04originated with Satan
00:55:06and eventually
00:55:06comes back upon
00:55:07his own head,
00:55:08my friends.
00:55:11The live goat
00:55:12represents Satan
00:55:13who is the originator
00:55:14of all sins.
00:55:15Where do we learn
00:55:16that at?
00:55:17We learn that
00:55:18in John 8,
00:55:19verse 44.
00:55:21Jesus said,
00:55:22Ye are of your
00:55:23father the devil
00:55:24and the lusts
00:55:24of your father
00:55:25ye will do.
00:55:26He was a murderer
00:55:27from the beginning
00:55:28and abode not
00:55:29in the truth
00:55:30because there is
00:55:31no truth in him.
00:55:32When he speaketh
00:55:33a lie,
00:55:35he speaketh
00:55:35of his own
00:55:36for he is a liar
00:55:37and the father
00:55:39of it.
00:55:39He is the father
00:55:40of sin.
00:55:45We understand
00:55:46that,
00:55:47don't we?
00:55:48Now,
00:55:51there is something
00:55:52about this process
00:55:53that I want
00:55:56to briefly address
00:55:57and that is
00:56:01who is represented
00:56:02by the fit man
00:56:03here in Leviticus 16
00:56:04because there are
00:56:05a number of new
00:56:06theories about it
00:56:07and it is confusing
00:56:08many in God's
00:56:09remnant church.
00:56:11So,
00:56:11I want to share
00:56:12with you
00:56:12from the book
00:56:13A Word to the Little Flock
00:56:15the following.
00:56:18quote,
00:56:20the Lord
00:56:20showed me in vision
00:56:21more than one year
00:56:22ago that brother
00:56:23Crozier,
00:56:25who was Crozier,
00:56:27where have you
00:56:28heard that name
00:56:28before?
00:56:30He was walking
00:56:31with Hiram Edson
00:56:32the day after
00:56:33the great disappointment
00:56:34of October 22nd,
00:56:351844.
00:56:37They're walking
00:56:37through that cornfield
00:56:38when heaven was
00:56:39opened up
00:56:40and Christ was seen
00:56:41in the most holy place.
00:56:42and so she says
00:56:44the Lord
00:56:44showed me in vision
00:56:45more than one year
00:56:46ago that brother
00:56:47Crozier had the
00:56:48true light on the
00:56:49cleansing of the
00:56:50sanctuary,
00:56:52etc.
00:56:54or everything else
00:56:55that deals with
00:56:56the sanctuary.
00:56:58Notice she says
00:56:59and that it was
00:57:00his will,
00:57:01who?
00:57:01The Father's will,
00:57:03that brother C
00:57:05should write out
00:57:06the view which
00:57:07he gave us in
00:57:07the day start extra,
00:57:08February 7th,
00:57:091846.
00:57:11I feel fully
00:57:12authorized by the
00:57:13Lord to recommend
00:57:15that extra to
00:57:16every saint.
00:57:18End quote.
00:57:20So clearly,
00:57:22Sister White
00:57:22endorsed brother
00:57:23Crozier's
00:57:24understanding of
00:57:24the cleansing of
00:57:25the sanctuary and
00:57:26etc., which would
00:57:28include all things
00:57:29having to do with
00:57:30the day of atonement
00:57:30because the
00:57:31cleansing of the
00:57:31sanctuary is what
00:57:33the day of atonement
00:57:34is all about.
00:57:37Well, what does
00:57:38brother Crozier
00:57:38say about the
00:57:39fit man?
00:57:41And here's what
00:57:41he says.
00:57:42This is what he
00:57:43wrote in the
00:57:43day start extra.
00:57:47Day start extra
00:57:48in an article,
00:57:49the sanctuary,
00:57:50written in 1846.
00:57:52He said,
00:57:53quote,
00:57:55at the appearing
00:57:57of Christ as
00:57:57taught from
00:57:58Revelation 20,
00:57:59let that sink in,
00:58:02at the appearing
00:58:03of Christ as
00:58:04taught from
00:58:05Revelation 20,
00:58:06what's Revelation
00:58:0720 talking about?
00:58:07He's talking about
00:58:09the angel coming
00:58:10down in the
00:58:10bottomless pit,
00:58:11right?
00:58:12Putting Satan
00:58:12there.
00:58:13It means that
00:58:14angel who appears
00:58:18in Revelation 20
00:58:19that comes down
00:58:20from heaven is
00:58:22Christ.
00:58:24It's not Gabriel
00:58:25or some other
00:58:26angel or the
00:58:28144,000 which is
00:58:29really being pushed.
00:58:32It's not any of
00:58:33them.
00:58:34Let's read what he
00:58:35says.
00:58:36He says,
00:58:36at the appearing
00:58:37of Christ as
00:58:37taught from
00:58:38Revelation 20,
00:58:40Satan is to be
00:58:40bound and cast
00:58:41into the
00:58:42bottomless pit,
00:58:43which act,
00:58:45that's Christ's
00:58:45act,
00:58:46and place are
00:58:47significantly
00:58:48symbolized by the
00:58:49ancient high
00:58:50priest sending
00:58:52the scapegoat
00:58:53into a separate
00:58:54and uninhabited
00:58:54wilderness,
00:58:55end quote.
00:58:59That's very
00:59:00plain.
00:59:01This is Leviticus
00:59:0416 and Revelation
00:59:0520 language that
00:59:06is connected in
00:59:07this quote, and
00:59:08because Brother
00:59:09Crozier had the
00:59:10truth on this
00:59:10subject, we know
00:59:11that it's not
00:59:12only Christ's act
00:59:14to lead the
00:59:14scapegoat into
00:59:15the wilderness as
00:59:16the fit man, but
00:59:17in doing so, he's
00:59:18vindicating his own
00:59:19character through the
00:59:20great plan of
00:59:21redemption, which
00:59:23the sanctuary
00:59:23doctrine and
00:59:24especially the
00:59:25day of atonement
00:59:25illustrates.
00:59:28I'm going to
00:59:28give you a head
00:59:28up.
00:59:29Pastor Jack
00:59:29Jones has a
00:59:31wonderful sermon
00:59:32on this subject
00:59:33of the fit man.
00:59:34It clears up any
00:59:36confusion and false
00:59:37teachings, and I
00:59:37encourage you to
00:59:38listen to it.
00:59:39You can go to
00:59:40Bitshoot, I
00:59:42think, what is it?
00:59:42Bitshoot, one
00:59:43word, dot com, and
00:59:45just do a search
00:59:46for him.
00:59:48It's Jacks, G-W-N,
00:59:52J-A-C-K-S,
00:59:55capital J, A-C-K-S,
00:59:57capital G,
00:59:57capital W,
00:59:58capital W, that's
00:59:59gospel workers
01:00:00ministries.
01:00:01Pastor Jack's and
01:00:02his wife Cindy's
01:00:03ministry, they've
01:00:04been doing that
01:00:05ministry just a few
01:00:08years longer than I've
01:00:09been in ministry.
01:00:12He does a really
01:00:14good job there.
01:00:15There are some
01:00:15other sermons he's
01:00:16got on there that
01:00:17are very good as
01:00:19well.
01:00:19I encourage you to
01:00:20listen to those.
01:00:22But my point is
01:00:23this, those sins of
01:00:25God's children can
01:00:26never be put upon the
01:00:27scapegoat until they
01:00:28have been fully
01:00:28blotted out in the
01:00:29sanctuary above.
01:00:30And remember this,
01:00:32that they can never be
01:00:33blotted out in the
01:00:33books of records in the
01:00:35sanctuary until they
01:00:35have been taken out of
01:00:36our lives, friends.
01:00:38For God is an accurate
01:00:39bookkeeper, isn't he?
01:00:41The records of heaven
01:00:42put down the facts, and
01:00:43if sin is still in your
01:00:44life, in my life, God's
01:00:46book can never read it
01:00:47that it has been
01:00:49blotted out.
01:00:49And so remember, that
01:00:53those sins that are put
01:00:55upon the scapegoat and
01:00:58carried off into the
01:00:59land of forgetfulness,
01:01:01those are sins that,
01:01:02first of all, have been
01:01:02placed upon Jesus, upon
01:01:04the cross, that he might
01:01:05die for us.
01:01:08There are sins that have
01:01:09been put, that have been
01:01:11brought into the sanctuary
01:01:12in forgiveness and
01:01:14pardon, and there are
01:01:15sins that have been
01:01:15atoned for at the mercy
01:01:17seats, blotted out
01:01:18forever.
01:01:20And when that work is
01:01:21accomplished, then they
01:01:23can be put upon the
01:01:24scapegoat and carried
01:01:25off into oblivion.
01:01:27Never more to enter
01:01:29into the heart and the
01:01:30lives of the people of
01:01:31God, and never more to
01:01:32enter into the sanctuary
01:01:34of God.
01:01:37Nahum chapter 1 verse 9
01:01:38says, what do you imagine
01:01:39against the Lord?
01:01:41He will make an utter
01:01:42end.
01:01:43Affliction shall not rise
01:01:45up the second time.
01:01:47Isn't that wonderful
01:01:48news?
01:01:48And so it's written in
01:01:51Leviticus 16 and verse
01:01:5330, for on that day
01:01:56shall the priest make an
01:01:57atonement for you, to
01:01:58cleanse you, that ye may
01:01:59be clean from all your
01:02:01sins before the Lord.
01:02:05You see, the goal of the
01:02:10gospel is to eradicate sin,
01:02:13to take sin entirely out of
01:02:15the way, so that it shall
01:02:17not stand as a veil between
01:02:18the sinner and the Lord.
01:02:21As Paul says in Romans 1
01:02:22and verse 16, he says,
01:02:24For I am not ashamed of the
01:02:25gospel of Christ, for it is
01:02:27the power of God unto
01:02:29salvation to everyone that
01:02:31believe it.
01:02:33The exact day, I'm sure you
01:02:35recognize this and understand
01:02:38this in your studies, the exact
01:02:41day that Jesus was to die was
01:02:42all foretold in the Old
01:02:43Testament Scriptures, wasn't
01:02:45it?
01:02:46We get into Daniel chapter
01:02:479, we'll see it.
01:02:50The time he was to begin his
01:02:51ministry in the holy place, the
01:02:53day he was to pass from the
01:02:55holy to the most holy, that's
01:02:56all clear.
01:02:58It's all clear in the
01:02:59chronological prophecies and the
01:03:00types and symbols.
01:03:01But how long he was to be in
01:03:03the most holy place, that's not
01:03:05told us.
01:03:07The last date of the prophetic
01:03:08scroll is October 22, 1844 A.D.
01:03:12And how long is this process of
01:03:15cleansing the sanctuary to go on?
01:03:19Well, friends, that depends upon
01:03:21you and me.
01:03:23You know, Peter says that we can
01:03:24not only look for, but hasten the
01:03:27coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
01:03:29Peter's very clear about that.
01:03:30And if we can hasten it, by the
01:03:33same token, we can delay it, can
01:03:35we not?
01:03:37In fact, that's what we've done,
01:03:39I believe.
01:03:41God pity us and forgive us.
01:03:44But now I want you to see
01:03:46something very interesting.
01:03:48What was it that Jesus went into
01:03:50the most holy place to
01:03:52accomplish?
01:03:53What did Daniel 8, 14 say?
01:03:56Then shall the what?
01:03:58Sanctuary be cleansed.
01:03:59Cleanse from what?
01:04:00Sin.
01:04:04That's the work of the most holy
01:04:05place at the mercy seat.
01:04:07But now watch something.
01:04:08What kind of sins is it that
01:04:10defile that sanctuary?
01:04:11What kind of sins is it that
01:04:13Jesus is going to blot out?
01:04:16Is Jesus going to blot out all the
01:04:18sins of this world where there is
01:04:20in the whole world that's in the
01:04:22most holy place?
01:04:23Is he going to do that?
01:04:24Well, no.
01:04:26We touched on it.
01:04:27He isn't.
01:04:28The sins that he's going to blot out
01:04:30are the ones we send in there to
01:04:32him by confessing and forsaking
01:04:35them.
01:04:35And so if we want them blotted out,
01:04:37friends, we got to do what?
01:04:39We got to confess them and forsake them.
01:04:44Now that's all true and that's
01:04:46wonderful and that's important.
01:04:48But friends, that's as far as we get
01:04:50in our thinking and in our
01:04:51experience.
01:04:51We've missed a very important thing
01:04:53if that's all we think.
01:04:54For if the stream of confessed sins
01:04:57that defile the sanctuary coming in
01:04:59through the blood of the sin
01:05:00offering are ever to be blotted out
01:05:02someday, the stream of sin itself
01:05:04has got to stop.
01:05:06When the stream of Christ's atoning
01:05:08blood stops, the sanctuary will have
01:05:11been cleansed.
01:05:12Do you realize that?
01:05:16Oh, most religions today and even
01:05:18in God's professed church teach that
01:05:19no, our character is going to remain
01:05:23defiled until Jesus comes and then
01:05:25he'll clean us up.
01:05:27They don't realize what they're
01:05:28saying.
01:05:30They're teaching that keeping Jesus
01:05:32there at the mercy seat forever.
01:05:36But the Bible tells us and through
01:05:38this service that someday the stream
01:05:39of confessed sins must stop.
01:05:42Otherwise, Jesus must stand at the
01:05:43mercy seat forever ministering his
01:05:45blood to take care of those sins as
01:05:47they come in.
01:05:48Can you see that?
01:05:50Let me see if I can illustrate.
01:05:53If I can.
01:05:55Let's say that there are a million
01:05:57people that have a habit of running
01:05:58in debt.
01:05:59But suppose there's a person that
01:06:00goes to each one of these people
01:06:02and inquires what they need to get
01:06:04their debts covered.
01:06:06And then gives them that amount to
01:06:08cover their debts so that each of
01:06:09these million people are no longer
01:06:11in debt.
01:06:13But suppose a week goes by, a month
01:06:15or maybe six months, and this person
01:06:16comes around again and he asks each of
01:06:19the million people how they're getting
01:06:20along and he finds out that every one
01:06:22of them is in debt again.
01:06:25What does he do?
01:06:28Well, he decides to go around and pay
01:06:30all the debts again.
01:06:32And so around he goes and he pays for
01:06:36everybody.
01:06:38What is the debt status of these
01:06:40people now?
01:06:41Well, all are paid up now.
01:06:42Everybody's out of debt.
01:06:44Fantastic!
01:06:44Finally!
01:06:46Some time passes and this very generous
01:06:48person comes around again and inquires
01:06:49each of these people how they're doing
01:06:52and he finds out they're in debt again.
01:06:54Really?
01:06:55Again?
01:06:57You see what I'm saying?
01:06:59This was the typical service with the
01:07:01blood of animals.
01:07:03It can never actually pay off the debt
01:07:05for the blood of goats and bullocks.
01:07:06It cannot change one's heart.
01:07:09Hebrews 10 and verse 4 says,
01:07:11For it is not possible that the blood
01:07:14of bulls and of goats should take away
01:07:16sins, only the blood of Jesus
01:07:18can do that as it's taken into the
01:07:20sanctuary and then out of the
01:07:22sanctuary.
01:07:25Most all Christians today will tell
01:07:26you that stopping the stream of sin
01:07:28is impossible.
01:07:29Really?
01:07:31I mean, think about that for a
01:07:32moment.
01:07:33If that stream can never stop,
01:07:35then Jesus will have to stay at the
01:07:37mercy seat forever.
01:07:38Unless he's just going to let us all
01:07:40be lost.
01:07:42But I'm glad he loves us enough to
01:07:44keep standing there and presenting the
01:07:45precious blood to cover my stream of
01:07:47sin.
01:07:49And more than that,
01:07:51when we confess our sins,
01:07:52he's faithful and just to do what?
01:07:57Right?
01:07:57Forgive us our sins,
01:07:59but don't forget the rest of the text.
01:08:01What does 1 John 1 and verse 9 say?
01:08:07He forgives us after we confess,
01:08:09but what does he do after that?
01:08:11To cleanse us.
01:08:13What's Daniel 8.14 talk about?
01:08:17Cleansing!
01:08:19He wants to cleanse us from all
01:08:20unrighteousness.
01:08:24Now there's something else I want you to
01:08:25notice that people were to do,
01:08:28and I'm going to try to wrap this up
01:08:29real quick.
01:08:30As we're closing out,
01:08:32Daniel chapter 8.
01:08:34Please bear with me.
01:08:35I appreciate it so much.
01:08:38There's something else I want you to
01:08:39notice that the people were to do
01:08:40while the priest was doing all of this
01:08:42work in the sanctuary.
01:08:44Go back to Leviticus 16 and look at
01:08:46verse 29.
01:08:48And this shall be a statute forever
01:08:50unto you, that in the seventh month,
01:08:53on the tenth day of the month,
01:08:54ye shall afflict your souls,
01:08:56and do no work at all,
01:08:59whether it be one of your own country
01:09:01or a stranger that sojourneth among you.
01:09:03It sounds like the Sabbath commandment,
01:09:05doesn't it?
01:09:06Verse 30.
01:09:07For on that day shall the priest make an
01:09:08atonement for you,
01:09:10to cleanse you,
01:09:11that you may be clean from all your sins
01:09:12before the Lord.
01:09:14So,
01:09:15while the priest is in the most holy place,
01:09:18the people are to gather around the
01:09:19sanctuary,
01:09:20to afflict their souls,
01:09:22and do no work.
01:09:24Now I wonder why they weren't to do
01:09:26any work on that day.
01:09:28Do you think it was so that
01:09:29there would be no excuse for coming to
01:09:31the sanctuary,
01:09:32and entering into this experience?
01:09:34And since October 22nd,
01:09:371844,
01:09:38our one business is to gather
01:09:40at the sanctuary.
01:09:42Some people think their first business
01:09:43is to make a living,
01:09:44but it isn't.
01:09:45It's to make an eternal life with Christ.
01:09:49We need to claim the promises of God.
01:09:50Jesus said in Matthew 6,
01:09:52verse 33,
01:09:53another one of my favorite scriptures,
01:09:55but seek ye first the kingdom of God
01:09:57and His righteousness,
01:09:58and all these things,
01:09:59all these other things,
01:10:01shall be added unto you,
01:10:02security of where you live
01:10:05and food and those things.
01:10:08The necessities.
01:10:11Now notice,
01:10:13they were not to do any work,
01:10:14but also they were to afflict their souls.
01:10:17What does that mean?
01:10:20This is more than fasting,
01:10:21but that was a part of it.
01:10:23It included soul searching,
01:10:25a review of one's progress in holy living,
01:10:28a seeking of God,
01:10:29confession of sin,
01:10:30and making amends for neglected duties,
01:10:34squaring accounts with God and men,
01:10:37thus redeeming the time before probation ends.
01:10:40It means to have a deep sorry for sin.
01:10:46Sorrow for sin is part of God's remedy
01:10:48to keep us from doing it again.
01:10:54And unless we're truly sorry for sin,
01:10:56we'll go back and what are we going to do?
01:10:58We're going to do it again and again
01:10:59until we grieve away the Holy Spirit.
01:11:03The good news is that God puts that sorrow into our hearts
01:11:06as it leads us to repentance.
01:11:09If we're sorry enough for our sins,
01:11:12friends, there isn't enough money in this world to buy us.
01:11:15There isn't enough pressure or scorn enough
01:11:17to force us to sin.
01:11:19If it hurts us the way it hurts Jesus,
01:11:22we will refuse to do it.
01:11:23And so as I close,
01:11:27I want you to picture
01:11:28in your mind the courtyard of the sanctuary
01:11:32and the altar there.
01:11:35Look at the altar
01:11:38at the door of the tabernacle.
01:11:40What do you see
01:11:41on the horns of that altar?
01:11:44You see blood.
01:11:46Now come into a holy place
01:11:47and look at that altar of incense.
01:11:49What do you see on the horns of that altar?
01:11:52You see blood.
01:11:54Now come back further
01:11:55into the most holy place
01:11:56and look at the mercy seat.
01:11:58And what do you see on that mercy seat?
01:12:00You see blood, don't you?
01:12:03Think about why that blood is there
01:12:05and who caused it to be that way.
01:12:07And then I want you to contemplate
01:12:09these words that are in
01:12:11Hebrews 10,
01:12:13beginning with verse 19.
01:12:16Hebrews 10, verse 19.
01:12:18Having therefore, brethren,
01:12:20boldness to enter into
01:12:22the holiest
01:12:24by the blood of Jesus
01:12:26by a new and living way
01:12:29which He hath consecrated for us
01:12:31through the veil,
01:12:32that is to say His flesh.
01:12:35And having a high priest
01:12:36over the house of God,
01:12:37let us draw near
01:12:39with a true heart
01:12:40in full assurance of faith,
01:12:42having our hearts
01:12:44sprinkled,
01:12:46cleansed
01:12:47from an evil conscience,
01:12:49and our bodies washed
01:12:51with pure water,
01:12:52let us hold fast
01:12:54the profession of our faith
01:12:55without wavering.
01:12:59For He is faithful
01:13:00that promised.
01:13:04And so coming up soon,
01:13:07I mean we're in September,
01:13:08we're soon going to be in October.
01:13:09And so as we remember
01:13:11Daniel 8 and verse 14
01:13:12and the end of the 2300 years
01:13:16on October 22nd in 1844,
01:13:19what it means
01:13:20and what is happening
01:13:21for us in heaven,
01:13:22friends,
01:13:23let's covenant with our Lord
01:13:24to accept His help
01:13:25in stopping our stream of sin
01:13:28into the most holy place
01:13:29so He may finish His work
01:13:32of cleansing
01:13:33that He may return
01:13:35to take us home
01:13:36to be with Him
01:13:36for all eternity.
01:13:37Friends, let's stop
01:13:39the blood flow
01:13:42today.
01:13:44Amen?
01:13:45Let's pray.
01:13:47Father in heaven,
01:13:48we thank You so much
01:13:49for Jesus.
01:13:50We thank You
01:13:51that He came
01:13:52and He shed blood
01:13:53in our place.
01:13:56And He is our
01:13:57High Priest in heaven
01:13:58covering us,
01:14:00covering the sins
01:14:01that are confessed
01:14:02and coming into the sanctuary.
01:14:03And we pray
01:14:04that we may do
01:14:05the work that
01:14:06only we can do
01:14:08as individuals
01:14:09through the
01:14:14imparting power
01:14:15of the Holy Spirit
01:14:17and overcome sins
01:14:18in our life.
01:14:20So we can stop
01:14:22that blood flow
01:14:23from coming in
01:14:26and that the sanctuary
01:14:26can be cleansed
01:14:27forever.
01:14:29help us to understand
01:14:32these truths
01:14:33to make it effective
01:14:35in our lives
01:14:36to do these things
01:14:37to represent
01:14:38the
01:14:39in a right way
01:14:41to be like Jesus
01:14:43in all ways
01:14:44as human beings
01:14:46can do.
01:14:48Forgive us our sins
01:14:49please Lord.
01:14:51Help us stop
01:14:52our stream
01:14:52from going into
01:14:53the sanctuary
01:14:53and teach these truths
01:14:56to the world
01:14:56that they may too
01:14:57accept Jesus
01:14:58as Lord and Savior
01:14:59and stop
01:15:00their streams
01:15:01as well.
01:15:03Please continue
01:15:04to be with people
01:15:05who maybe have heard
01:15:05this for the first time.
01:15:06Help them to have
01:15:07an understanding
01:15:08and prepare

01:15:17for what's coming
01:15:18to be spiritually
01:15:19prepared
01:15:20by having Jesus
