In episode 7 of our study of Daniel chapter 8 we found that the Prince has his host and that the little horn is also given a host to war against the daily of the Prince. So, the battle is between the Prince and His host and the little horn and his host. In this episode we will compare Daniel 8:11 with Daniel 11:31 to see the parallel concerning the host given to the little horn? Who and what is this host that helps the little horn in his war against the Prince and His sanctuary? Let's find out!

00:00:00All right. Hello friends, I'm Pastor Joe Lasswell. Welcome you to our study here at this time.
00:00:15I'm thankful you're joining us. I praise the Lord that you're joining us. I hope that you've been
00:00:20learning quite a lot. I've been learning some new things. You always learn something when you open
00:00:27God's Word. God has promised that to lead us into all truth. And so we trust Him that He's doing that.
00:00:36And so we want to ask and thank the Lord for the Holy Spirit who helps us to discern these things.
00:00:45And so we want to ask for His help to continue as we get back into Daniel chapter 8, the desolator.
00:00:53We're looking at this desolator in Daniel 8, this little horn who desolates the sanctuary of the prince
00:01:01and his host. And so we want to learn exactly what that means. And God has promised to share
00:01:08what that means with us. But before we dig back into it, let's ask our Father in Heaven to bless us
00:01:15as we open His Word this morning. Let's kneel, if possible, or bow our heads together in our hearts,
00:01:21which is probably more important. And so let's pray. Father in Heaven, we do thank Thee for this time that we have
00:01:29together here. And open Your Word. We thank You that You provided it and protected it all through time
00:01:36so that we can study it, read it, learn from it, and hopefully with Your grace and strength in the Holy Spirit,
00:01:48change us more and more into the image of our dear Savior Jesus. And we may have His character,
00:01:57which is what He came here to show us was possible. Showing that the devil's claims about Your character
00:02:05are completely false. And so Father, we pray for the Holy Spirit to be poured out upon all of us
00:02:11who are opening Your Word here on this most holy Sabbath day, and those who are seeking truth.
00:02:17We pray that the Holy Spirit will help them and guide them, and us, help us to discern these things
00:02:24and to grow in grace. We thank You so much for Jesus, who came to this earth, became one of us for eternity.
00:02:34What an incredible thought to contemplate. And then He showed us not only what sin is and what
00:02:42your true character of love is, but how to live a righteous life. He didn't just die for our sins,
00:02:53but He lived a righteous life as an example to each and every one of us. That we don't have to live a
00:02:58life stuck in the gutter of sin, but we can have victory over it through Him. We praise You for that.
00:03:05We praise You for protecting us from the evil one, and from evil angels, and for being very near to
00:03:13those who are suffering, and helping them to have peace of heart. Father, we pray this morning that
00:03:21You'll be with those, continue to be with those who are suffering through these tragedies that are
00:03:26happening throughout our country and around the world. And please be very near our brethren in
00:03:31other countries who are suffering severe persecution. We pray that hearts may see this evil and come to
00:03:38know Thee and be saved. Please forgive us our sins. We claim the blood of Jesus that was shed there at
00:03:46Calvary for us. And help us to know these things that we read and study here in Daniel chapter 8.
00:03:53Please give me the words to speak this morning, Lord. May they touch hearts, prepare hearts for
00:03:58these things. Some of these things are new to people. Help them to have a right understanding. I ask
00:04:05these favors in the name of Jesus, who's so worthy. Amen and amen.
00:04:15Well, we are in a series that I have entitled The Desolator. It's a study of Daniel chapter
00:04:228. And our study of Daniel chapter 7, you recall, I called that the great pretender. I think that
00:04:33was what I called it. The bold pretender. That was it. The bold pretender. And we're talking about
00:04:38the little horn. He was the bold pretender in Daniel chapter 7. When we come into Daniel chapter 8,
00:04:44we find this same little horn. And now he becomes not just a bold pretender. He is the desolator.
00:04:50The desolator. And so, as we begin looking at Daniel chapter 8 and verses 11 and 12 here,
00:05:02I want to cover again what we learned in episode number 7, our last study together. Let's refresh
00:05:09our minds because it's a continual, we talk about the continual, the daily, right? Or it's a continual
00:05:17study into God's word. Amen. And so, let's refresh our minds. What did we learn the last time we were
00:05:25together? Well, we learned that the prince's sanctuary is in the literal heavenly temple and in his
00:05:30spiritual church on earth, isn't we? Which consists of those who keep the Ten Commandments of God, who
00:05:36exercise the faith of Jesus, and they have the spirit of prophecy. We learn that Jesus ministers in
00:05:45two places at the same time, physically in heaven and spiritually on earth through the ministry of
00:05:52the Holy Spirit. His heavenly hosts are the angels, we learned, haven't we? And his earthly hosts are his
00:05:59faithful followers. Again, those who have faith in Jesus, the faith of Jesus, and keep his commandments.
00:06:07We learned that the place of the sanctuary is removed from heaven in a spiritual sense.
00:06:12You know, the little horn and Satan didn't go up to heaven and tear down the actual sanctuary that's in
00:06:19heaven. We're talking here about a spiritual battle. And so, this place of the sanctuary is removed from
00:06:26heaven in a spiritual sense. It's set up on earth by papal Rome, who we have abundant evidence and have
00:06:34laid out that is papal Rome. The little horn is papal Rome. We've learned that morning and evening,
00:06:40a lamb was offered upon the altar of sacrifice for the sins of Israel. We were looking at the
00:06:44sanctuary and the implements in the courtyard in the first room called the Holy Place.
00:06:57And so, we were starting to look at that, and we saw a morning and evening lamb was offered upon the
00:07:01altar of sacrifice in the courtyard for the sins of Israel. As long as the Hebrew sanctuary and temple
00:07:08stood, there was never a time when the fire of the altar was not burning. It was continual. This
00:07:14was the daily or continual burnt offering. We covered a bit of that. We learned that the sacrifice
00:07:20of the lamb represented the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. An atonement that is valid for God's
00:07:27people continually. We know that when we read the Gospels, you look at John chapter 1 verse 29,
00:07:341 Peter 1.19, Revelation 13.8 tells us this. We learned that the sacrifice was offered daily,
00:07:43continually, morning and evening, and it indicates that Jesus died once and for all and never needs
00:07:48to die again. His death was sufficient one time to forgive sins. Praise his name. Praise his name.
00:08:02He never needs to die again, friends. And we learned that the teaching of the once for all death of
00:08:09Jesus is counterfeited in the Roman Catholic sacrifice of the Mass. In the Mass, the once for
00:08:15all sacrifice, the death of Jesus, is repeated over and over and over and over and over again.
00:08:22And so, you see, instead of looking to the Lamb of God in heaven, Roman Catholic believers are taught
00:08:28to look at the wafer host or the body of Jesus in its totality. And they call, it's called ubiquity or
00:08:35the omnipresence. But that's where it's supposedly found. So instead of coming boldly to Jesus at the
00:08:42throne of grace in heaven, believers are taught that they must be nourished by feeding on the literal
00:08:47body of Jesus on earth every time they partake of the Catholic Mass to receive forgiveness.
00:08:53We learned that the table of the showbread contained two stacks of unleavened bread, each with six
00:09:03loaves, twelve loaves of bread in total. And by this, God wanted to teach that there was sufficient
00:09:09bread to feed each and every one of the twelve tribes of Israel. This bread was called the continual
00:09:18bread, Tamed, that Hebrew word Tamed, because it was available continually to satisfy the spiritual
00:09:29needs as well of Israel. And so we learned also that the showbread first represents Jesus as he's
00:09:37contained in the written word of God. We learned also that the showbread is continually available to
00:09:44all the word of God, is continually available to all Jesus, all of God's people, all people. We learned
00:09:51that if you assimilate the word of God, it will nourish the life spiritually, leading to character
00:09:58growth and victory over sin. But what about Roman Catholicism, the counterfeit to the showbread?
00:10:06Well, we learned that they substituted tradition, the traditions of men for the word of God. In other
00:10:12words, they put the traditions of men over Jesus. And not just the traditions of men. The example of
00:10:20traditions of men is the Pope. So they placed the Pope over Jesus, essentially. The tradition over the
00:10:26word of God. We learned that last time. We learned that they removed the Bible. They essentially have
00:10:31removed Jesus from all the people. And this kind of, in a way, touches on the daily being a substitute
00:10:38and removing the continual instead of paganism. But, ah, I don't want to get into that.
00:10:44But they removed the Bible, Jesus from all the people. It was no longer accessible, see? And Jesus,
00:10:50then, is no longer accessible for forgiveness of sin. A little bit more about that in just a moment.
00:10:56We also learned that they taught by these traditions that we're born sinners.
00:11:02sinners. And that no conversion is necessary. It's not even possible, really. As sinners can't
00:11:09overcome sin. But Jesus showed us we can, you see. But they say that and teach that you just
00:11:18need to confess sins continually, see? Continually to a priest. And again, with the showbread, we
00:11:27learned that the number, there were a number of unbiblical traditions in the Catholic Church.
00:11:32And that it's just hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of these traditions, many of them
00:11:40pulled from paganism, such as, and I shared some, purgatory, limbo, celibacy, confession,
00:11:46and eternally burning hell. That's not biblical. Lent, the mass, canonization of saints,
00:11:54the rosary, bowing before images, the immaculate conception, the assumption of Mary, baptism of infants,
00:12:01for they've even got their mind developed enough to make a decision, praying to saints, the observance
00:12:11of the Sunday, and on, and on, and on, and on. That's what we learned from looking at the table
00:12:20of showbread and the showbread specifically. We learned that one of the tasks of the high
00:12:25priest was to trim the wicks and replenish the oil in the seven-branched candlestick of
00:12:29the holy place. And in this way, he would make sure that the light of the candlestick burned
00:12:34how long? Tamed. Continually. The seven-branched candlestick represented all seven stages in the
00:12:45history of the Christian church, from the days of the apostles to the end of time. That's what
00:12:51we learned in our study in episode seven. We learned that papal Rome claims to be the mother
00:12:56church and actually persecuted the true candlestick. Remember, we found out who the host and the stars
00:13:05of the prince were. It's the people and the leaders of the church. And the mother church of papal Rome
00:13:10persecuted God's candlestick and usurped Christ with a pope to stand in the midst of God's people
00:13:19as Savior. We looked at Revelation 1 for that. We learned that the incense upon the altar
00:13:26represent, that that incense that was offered upon the altar was called the perpetual
00:13:33Talmud, I'm sorry, because it was burned on the altar morning and evening continually. And that that
00:13:43incense upon the altar represented the prayers of God's people, which are mingled with the precious
00:13:49merits of Christ's blood. And then we learned, as we closed up the episode, that Roman Catholicism
00:13:59had established, and we learned this too as we went through our study of Daniel chapter seven,
00:14:04that they, in great detail actually, established a counterfeit priesthood to whom the faithful
00:14:10confessed their sins. That's to say, instead of people directing their prayers to Jesus in heaven
00:14:18for forgiveness, they utter them to a human priest on earth, who actually cannot forgive sins.
00:14:25And in this way, the intercessory ministry of Jesus is cast down from heaven and placed on earth.
00:14:33We learned quite a lot last time. And we're going to continue to learn more and more and more.
00:14:39Let's now dig into Daniel 8 and verse 12. We'll start by reading it. Daniel 8 and verse 12. And
00:14:49it says, and then host was given him against the daily sacrifice. Again, that word sacrifice is added
00:14:56by reason of transgression. We'll find out what that means. And it cast down the truth to the ground.
00:15:03We'll find out what that means. And it practiced and prospered amazingly. That's Daniel 8 and verse 12.
00:15:11Imagine Daniel seeing all this in vision. Imagine if you were seeing it. Wouldn't you be astonished
00:15:17at what you're seeing? And so we previously found that the prince has his host. And now we discover
00:15:26here in verse 12 that the little horn is also given a host to war against the daily. So the battle is
00:15:33between the prince and his host and the little horn and his host. And a comparison, and I'm going to get
00:15:42to this in just a moment, but if you see a comparison of verse 12 here with Daniel chapter 11 and verse 31,
00:15:51you'll find that it clearly indicates that the little horn's host is composed of his armies,
00:15:57which is the secular power, the civil sword, you remember, who are also members of his church,
00:16:03by the way. The papacy is a church state power, isn't it? You do know that during the Reformation and
00:16:11papal Rome has not changed. No matter what Protestants say today, papacy, all they need to do is get back
00:16:19into power and they're right back to that same character and persecuting the truth in God's
00:16:25people. But during the Reformation, kings that were Protestants were removed from membership of the
00:16:33Roman Catholic Church. They were considered anathema. That means they were cursed by the church and then
00:16:40they were excommunicated. I remember even sharing about King Henry about that in our study of Daniel
00:16:49chapter 7. Now, some scholars in Adventism teach that the host of the little horn is the Roman
00:16:56Catholic clergy. But friends, that doesn't line up with scripture. For one thing, the clergy is not
00:17:03really a host that is given to him. And second, it limits the papacy to just having one sword and not
00:17:11two swords, the church state. If it were speaking about the clergy, it would limit this battle to just a
00:17:17theological one. And Sunday worship would remain a church law with no civil enforcement at all.
00:17:23Kind of like it is right now. So we've got to put our thinking caps on. Come let us reason together,
00:17:31we see in Isaiah chapter 1. God is saying, I've given you a brain. I want to communicate with you.
00:17:39Let's reason these things together. Let me help you understand. Right? Now, the Bible tells us in
00:17:48Revelation 13 and verse 15 that the two-horned beast, which is the United States of America,
00:17:54would enforce the Sunday law. Let's read that. Revelation 13 verse 15. And he had power to give life
00:18:02unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should, listen to this, both speak, that means
00:18:10enact laws, and cause, and that means enforce these laws, that as many as would not worship the image of the
00:18:22beast should be killed. This is actually, this is the end time scenario that we studied in Daniel
00:18:32chapter 3. What happened there on the plains of Dora, if you'll recall. Now, I said we're going to
00:18:41compare this, Daniel 8.12 with Daniel 11 verse 31. And let's look at Daniel 11.31, which helps clear up
00:18:49any possible confusion about Daniel 8.12. Let's read this, Daniel 11 verse 31. Bible says,
00:18:58And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take
00:19:06away the daily, again, sacrifices added, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
00:19:16Very interesting. And when you get into Daniel 11, I'm talking about the king of the north.
00:19:21Well, who's this king of the north? Some people think it's some, well, there's all kinds of theories
00:19:28about that, but what does the Bible lay out? Remember, when we're looking through Daniel,
00:19:32each chapter kind of builds on the other. We get more and more information, don't we?
00:19:38And so, let's first identify the king of the north, which is a must. And I'll get more in depth
00:19:47about this, of course, when we get into our study of Daniel chapter 11. But the Bible clearly teaches
00:19:54that the true king of the north is God, who dwells on Mount Zion in the heavenly Jerusalem.
00:20:01You can read that in Isaiah 14, Psalm 48, Matthew 5. You even find out, read verses 35-36.
00:20:08We know that thousands of years ago, Satan attempted to overthrow God and usurp his throne
00:20:17in heaven, but he failed, and he was cast out to the earth. Consequently, Satan succeeded
00:20:26in causing Adam to sin, and then he set up a rival kingdom on the earth. And we know that.
00:20:32We've read that in the Bible. And in this way, Satan became the counterfeit king of the north.
00:20:41And he was wanting to usurp the legitimate position of God, you see. As God sits in the heavenly
00:20:48Jerusalem temple in the sides of the north, Satan sits in the earthly temple in the sides
00:20:53of the symbolic north, planting a counterfeit religion in the church.
00:20:59Now, the north is not a denial of God and religion, but rather the establishment of a false
00:21:05God and a false religion. According to Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2, verse 3 and 4, God's kingdom
00:21:15is called Israel. And what is Satan's kingdom called? Well, it's called Babylon, right? But there's
00:21:25more. We know that God, the Father, has his vicar. That's Jesus. Satan also has his vicar,
00:21:34right? That's the Pope. Thus, the two invisible champions, you could say, of good and evil, God
00:21:41and Satan, have their respective earthly representatives. Jesus not only, friends, represents his Father
00:21:51in heaven, but he also represents his people as well. Now, and we can praise his name for
00:22:01that. Territorially speaking, Jerusalem in the sides of the north was God's holy sea in the
00:22:12Old Testament, right? I mean, there, David and all his successors sat as types of Jesus, the
00:22:20king of kings and the Lord of lords. You can read that in Revelation 17, 14. Now, on the
00:22:25other hand, Satan's sea in the Old Testament was Babylon, the archenemy of Israel. And there
00:22:34sat Nebuchadnezzar, the counterfeit king of kings, according to Ezekiel 26, 38, 39. You read about it
00:22:45in there, about Nebuchadnezzar in this. As we found in our study of Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar, as he grew
00:22:53older, repented and came to be a follower of the true God. Praise God for that. You know, one day we get
00:23:00to heaven. Jesus redeems us. We can meet Nebuchadnezzar. We can talk to him if we want. Won't that be
00:23:07exciting? Now, biblically, the kingdom of the north was Assyria-Babylon because it was geographically
00:23:16north of Israel. And Jeremiah warned Judah that an evil would come upon them from the north. That was a
00:23:23clear reference to Babylon. And that's what happened, wasn't it? Significantly, the invasion
00:23:30of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar is described by Jeremiah as an all-encompassing flood. The flood of Babylon
00:23:40is identified as the river Euphrates, according to Jeremiah. You can read it also in Joshua 24.
00:23:47When the Assyrian king, Sennacherib, invaded Judah in the year 701 BC, his military campaign was also
00:23:58described as an overwhelming flood. Right? This is literally an overwhelming flood. Isaiah tells us that.
00:24:05In Daniel 3, we find a clear description of Babylon's counterfeit religion. It seeks to impose by force its
00:24:12religion upon God's faithful people. Again, they're in the plains of Dura.
00:24:19Now, literally speaking, and I'm talking about Daniel 11, the king of the north here in Daniel 11 is
00:24:25Babylon. And his invasion of the glorious land is compared to an overwhelming flood, according to
00:24:31Daniel 11 40. Symbolically, however, the king of the north represents the papacy.
00:24:42You know, think about this. It represents the papacy, which will employ a flood of
00:24:49multitudes, nations, tongues, and people. And you read about it in Revelation 17, right?
00:24:58So the papacy does this to attempt to overwhelm the end-time remnant church.
00:25:04Now, for several reasons, the king of the north represents the same power as the little horn here
00:25:09in Daniel 8. And we're looking at comparing here, Daniel 8 12, here with Daniel 11, verse 31.
00:25:17Now, besides the fact that both the little horn and the king of the north follow Media and Persia in the
00:25:23prophetic chain, there are four other close parallels between the king of the north in this verse, verse 31,
00:25:30and the little horn in Daniel 8.
00:25:32And as we've learned, the little horn of Daniel 8 represents the Roman Catholic papacy. It's the same
00:25:38little horn power in Daniel 7. Now, this being the case, the king of the north in Daniel 11 must
00:25:46represent the same power. So let's take a look at the four parallels from Daniel 11 and verse 31.
00:25:52Let's read here this part. Daniel 11, verse 31. It says,
00:25:57And arms shall stand on his part. That's what it says. And arms shall stand on his part.
00:26:05Regarding the words arms, Walter C. Kaiser makes this remark in his Theological Word Book of the Old
00:26:11Testament, volume 1, pages 253 to 254. Notice what Kaiser says. He says, quote,
00:26:18In the plural, arms is equivalent to military or political forces or armies.
00:26:27It says, and arms shall stand on his part. This means that the king of the north would be helped by the
00:26:33forces of a political power. And this actually reminds me of the union of iron and clay that we saw in the
00:26:41feet of the image there in Daniel 2. Right? Church state? Civil? Religious?
00:26:50I'm also reminded that the little horn would arise, but not by his own power, which you read in Daniel 8,
00:26:56verse 24. Which again removes the theory that the arms represent just the papal clergy. I just can't
00:27:04see how they can come to that conclusion. Well, I can, but we don't need to get down that tangent.
00:27:09Revelation chapter 13 and 10 presents the same scenario. The beast used the sword to slay the
00:27:17saints, and the same sword would slay him. And significant is the fact that the king of the
00:27:25north existed before this point, but without the aid of arms. Paul tells us that in 2 Thessalonians 2.
00:27:32He underlines that the man of sin existed before the restrainer was removed, and we know that the
00:27:38restrainer was the pagan Roman Empire. We looked at that a couple times in detail.
00:27:45This is the same idea that we find in Daniel 8, 12, where the little horn was given a host to execute his
00:27:52nefarious work against the sanctuary, against the prince, and the daily.
00:27:59And as we've previously seen, the word host in this context means army, political power.
00:28:07So what is pictured here is the union of the religious and political powers, or the union
00:28:13of church and state, the two swords, you recall. Here's a second thing. Let's read on.
00:28:19Daniel 11, verse 31. It says,
00:28:21And they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength. I think it's significant here, this change of
00:28:29pronoun from the singular to the plural. The pronoun they can be a reference to the armies,
00:28:36or to the armies in union with the king of the north. I believe the proper context is the armies
00:28:43in union with the king of the north. In other words, the political power stands on behalf of the king
00:28:48of the north, and then they together pollute the sanctuary. In what sense does this union of church
00:28:57and state pollute the sanctuary? What's really interesting that the Hebrew word kalal means
00:29:03to pollute, to defile, to profane. So the king of the north does this. And we cannot miss that the
00:29:11little horn of Daniel 8 also tramples upon the sanctuary, the prince and the host of the prince,
00:29:18for which reason the sanctuary must be cleansed, right? And so we see the parallel between these two.
00:29:26The third parallel, back to Daniel 11, verse 31.
00:29:30And shall take away the daily. In Daniel 8, the little horn, with the help of a host that was given to him,
00:29:43remember not by his own strength, it takes away the daily. Daniel 8. In Daniel 11, the king of the north
00:29:50takes away the daily with the help of arms. And so it's clear that these two prophecies
00:29:55are definitely parallel. And let's go back to Daniel 11, verse 31. Here's a fourth parallel.
00:30:04They, that's the king of the north and the forces that aid him, shall place the abomination
00:30:09that maketh desolate. Now this phrase is actually parallel to Daniel 8, where we're told that the
00:30:17little horn, with the aid of his host, set up the transgression of desolation. That's actually
00:30:24in Daniel 8, 13, which we're going to get to, I think, in our next episode. Now the word
00:30:31desolation there, Hebrew, is common in the Old Testament. It frequently refers to the trampling
00:30:41of Jerusalem by the pagan idolatrous nations, mainly because of Israel's unfaithfulness. You see,
00:30:53God's mercy was withdrawn because of the unfaithfulness of Israel. And so Satan gets a little bit more
00:31:02power and brings in idolatry. And we see it over and over and over and over again through
00:31:06the Old Testament. And so we see, though, that the equivalent Greek word is used in Matthew
00:31:1523, in verse 38, where Jesus told the Jewish leaders, I touched on this last time, that your
00:31:20house is left unto you desolate. And also in Matthew 24, verse 15, if you recall, where
00:31:27Jesus spoke about the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet. That's the
00:31:33Greek use of that word.
00:31:34Now when you look at Daniel, excuse me, Matthew 24, it's well understood that it's a twofold
00:31:45fulfillment. The first of which was the destruction of the literal city of Jerusalem because of its
00:31:51rejection of the Messiah. I mean, look at Matthew 24, look at Daniel 9, just read them and you
00:31:58can see it. But the second fulfillment, which carries us well into the Christian era, it's
00:32:05referred to in Luke 21, verse 24, in Revelation 11, 2. And there we're told the holy city, the
00:32:12true church, shall they, the papacy, tread underfoot for 42 months, the same as 1260 years.
00:32:18And we're told in Revelation 13, verse 5, if we go back to there, we see that there are
00:32:30these two beasts. And we read in Revelation 13, verse 5, that the first beast, that sea
00:32:36beast, the Roman Catholic papacy, did this trampling when it allied itself with the political
00:32:43states of Europe, from 538 AD to 1798 AD. We looked at those times in Daniel 7, 1260 literal
00:32:51years. And this is the period, friends, which is described right here in Daniel 11, verse 31.
00:32:59The word abomination is consistently used in the Old Testament in conjunction with idolatry.
00:33:06And a notable example is found in Ezekiel chapter 8, which links the word abomination
00:33:13with idolatry in general, and with son worship in particular. And that's very important to put
00:33:19in the back of your mind. Let's look at Ezekiel. Let's go to Ezekiel 8, and let's begin with
00:33:26verse 16. I brought this up before. Quote, this is what the Bible says,
00:33:33And he brought me into the inner court of the Lord's house, and behold, at the door of the
00:33:38temple of the Lord, between the porch and altar, were about five and twenty men, with their
00:33:43backs toward the temple of the Lord, and their faces toward the east, and they worship the
00:33:49sun toward the east. Do any Christians worship the sun today? Hmm. I'll let you think about
00:34:02that. Maybe Easter? Sunrise services? Something to think about. Verse 17.
00:34:15Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house
00:34:21of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? For they have filled the
00:34:28land with violence and have returned to provoke me to anger. And lo, they put the branch to
00:34:34their nose. That means they mock God, is what he's saying. They mock me. In verse 18.
00:34:43Therefore will I also deal in fury. Mine eyes shall not spare, neither will I have pity. And
00:34:49though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, they pray to God. Right? If you're committing
00:34:58abominations in open rebellion and know it, God's not going to hear your prayers. Notice
00:35:08what he says. I'm going to deal in fury against them. I'm not going to spare. I'm not going to
00:35:16have pity. They may cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them. That's
00:35:25Ezekiel chapter 8 verses 16 to 18. And in the succeeding context, God predicted that these
00:35:34abominations would bring desolation as a result. And so the abomination of desolation already
00:35:41existed, friends, in the days of Israel immediately before the Babylonian captivity. And it foreshadows
00:35:48the abomination of desolation in the days of Christ. So this comparison of Daniel 8 verse
00:35:5912 with Daniel 11 and verse 31 clearly indicates that the little horn's host is composed of his
00:36:05armies, the secular power, the imperial sword of the state. Now I want to touch on something
00:36:14here, mainly to Adventists, because there are some that have stated that because William
00:36:22Miller believed that the daily was paganism and the sanctuary was the sanctuary of paganism,
00:36:27we should believe the same today because he was our Adventist pioneer. And I want to give
00:36:31caution to everyone. How should I put this? We need to recognize, I guess, that what William
00:36:55Miller taught was by no means perfect. And maybe you know that and understand that, but I'm just
00:37:01going to say it. I mean, for example, and this is not to drag down William Miller, a lot of
00:37:06truth this man shared. And many Adventists don't know this, in my experience. It's because we
00:37:16haven't been taught correct principles of study. That's a whole other series that I have preached
00:37:24upon. But Miller taught that the first beast here that we read about in Revelation 13 was pagan
00:37:29in Rome. And then he went on and taught that the second beast was an image of the Roman beast or
00:37:35papal realm. So we've got to be careful, friends. Now he correctly taught that the 1260 years of papal
00:37:46dominion began in 530 AD and ended in 1798 AD. But then he takes, it's just kind of interesting, he takes the
00:37:56number 666, which has nothing to do with years. It's really the number of the beast's name. But he applies it to the
00:38:04period of pagan Rome's dominion from 158 BC to 508 AD. And that's an error in understanding. Now, Ellen White had a lot of
00:38:14positive things to say about William Miller. But I ask you, does this mean that she endorsed every detail of
00:38:21Miller's interpretations? Of course not, as we shouldn't. In 1843, one of those who preached the
00:38:30judgment, our message, made this statement. It's from the Midnight Cry, October 4th, 1843. Notice this statement.
00:38:39It says, quote, the very heart of the gospel was removed when the little horn took away the daily
00:38:45or continual mediation of Jesus Christ and cast down the place of his gospel sanctuary and made it a den
00:38:53of thieves, end quote. Now that was in 1843, friends. That's not new. And this statement most likely was
00:39:06written by O. R. L. Crozier, whose article on the sanctuary was actually glowingly approved by Ellen
00:39:15White. I'll share that with you here. Let's just share that. It's from A Word to the Little Flock
00:39:19Scattered Abroad, page 12. Notice what she says. This is really an important endorsement, actually.
00:39:27She said, quote, I believe the sanctuary, to be cleansed at the end of the 2300 days,
00:39:32is the New Jerusalem Temple of which Christ is minister. The Lord showed me in vision more than
00:39:41one year ago that Brother Crozier had the true light on the cleansing of the sanctuary, etc.,
00:39:47and that it was his will that Brother C. should write out the view which he gave us in the Day
00:39:54Star Extra, February 7th, 1846. I feel fully authorized by the Lord to recommend that extra to
00:40:02every saint, end quote. This is actually a very important endorsement because it helps to keep
00:40:08the truth on track against many fanatical ideas concerning the work of cleansing the sanctuary,
00:40:14Daniel 8, 14. A lot of these fanatical ideas are coming out again with some new ones, one of which
00:40:23actually involves the fit man who takes the scapegoat, you know, in the sanctuary service on the Day of
00:40:30Atonement. He takes the scapegoat out into the wilderness and leaves him out in the wilderness.
00:40:36That's the fit man. Now, Crozier, in his articles there, makes it very clear that the fit man is a
00:40:46symbol of Jesus Christ. But there are some preachers in Adventism that have errant ideas that they're
00:40:52peddling about the fit man. And it's actually pulling many innocent Adventists away from the
00:40:57truth. Now, we may get into all that sometime later on, but I encourage you to test all things
00:41:03before accepting it. You've heard me for years if you've been listening. I encourage you,
00:41:09like always, to check me out, as Pastor Brooks would say. Go to your Bible. Study it out. Adventists,
00:41:18go to the spirit of prophecy. Study it. Read. Depend upon the Holy Spirit to lead you into
00:41:26the truth. We read in the Bereans in Acts 17 and 11 that these were more noble than those
00:41:33in Thessalonica and that they received the word with all readiness of mind and searched
00:41:38the scriptures daily whether those things were so. So, Paul would come in and preach these
00:41:43things and they just didn't take his word for it because here is an apostle of the Lord.
00:41:50Let's be like the Bereans. Amen?
00:41:54In the Present Truth article of December 1849, Ellen White used language that reveals actually
00:42:04her understanding of the daily. And I think it helps us out quite a lot. Present Truth, December
00:42:098th, 1849. She says, quote, Christ did close his daily or continual ministration or mediation
00:42:16in the first apartment of the heavenly sanctuary. She talked about what happened in 1844. And
00:42:22shut the door, which no man can open. And opened a door in the second apartment, or holiest
00:42:28of all, which no man can shut. And passed within the second veil, bearing before the Father on
00:42:35the breastplate of judgment, all for whom he is now acting as intercessor. Notice what
00:42:40she says. She says, if this is the position that Christ now occupies, then there is no
00:42:44intercessor in the first apartment. And in vain do misguided souls knock at that door, saying,
00:42:50Lord, Lord, open unto us. Just, she lays out here her understanding of it. It's a very well
00:43:00statement for us to take into account. Now, David Arnold, he actually owned the barn that
00:43:09was used by Ellen White and the pioneers to hammer out all the beliefs, the summary beliefs
00:43:15of the emerging Seventh-day Adventist church. Notice what he stated. It was in a Present Truth
00:43:22article as well, in December of 1849. Notice what he said. He says, quote, therefore we are
00:43:28brought by the force of circumstances and the fulfillment of events to the irresistible
00:43:33conclusion that on the tenth day of the seventh month, Jewish time, in the autumn of 1844,
00:43:40Christ did close his daily or continual ministration or mediation in the first apartment of the
00:43:47heavenly sanctuary and shut the door, which no man can open, and open the door in the second
00:43:52apartment or holiest hall, which no man can shut. Sounds kind of like what Ellen White said,
00:43:56right? Now, let me share this with you. And I'm just kind of talking on what William Miller
00:44:03was thinking and this, what is the daily? Just throwing some information out there for
00:44:10all of us to consider. From the Spirit of Prophecy, Volume 4, page 263. Quote,
00:44:21the ministration of the earthly sanctuary consisted of two divisions. The priest ministered daily in a
00:44:29holy place. I've shared this before, actually. While once a year, the high priest performed a
00:44:33special work of atonement in the Most Holy for the cleansing of the sanctuary. Day by day, the
00:44:39repentant sinner brought his offering to the door of the tabernacle and placing his hand upon the
00:44:44victim's head, confessed his sins, thus in figure, transferring them to the innocent sacrifice.
00:44:51The animal was then slain, and the blood or the flesh was carried by the priest into the holy place.
00:44:58Thus the sin was, in figure, transferred to the sanctuary. Such was the work that went forward
00:45:07throughout the year. The continual transfer of sins to the sanctuary. Notice it was continual
00:45:13transfer of sins. Those who are talking about paganism and the paganism of the sanctuary,
00:45:21they lean on Anticus Epiphanes, who sacrificed a pig one time in the sanctuary. But that's not
00:45:28what we're reading here. The process. The continual transfer of sins to the sanctuary rendered a
00:45:40further work of ministration necessary in order for their removal. On the tenth day of the seventh
00:45:46month, the high priest entered the inner apartment, or Most Holy Place, which he was forbidden on pain
00:45:53of death to enter at any time. The cleansing of the sanctuary then performed, completed the yearly
00:46:00round of service, end quote. Yeah, they tied a rope to his ankle as he went into the Most Holy Place
00:46:07in case he went in there with a sin in his record that he hadn't repented of. He would be struck down
00:46:15dead, and they couldn't just walk in there and take him out. They'd have to pull him out.
00:46:23Now, Uriah Smith, an Adventist pioneer, he agreed that the sanctuary that was trampled underfoot
00:46:29was the heavenly sanctuary, and that the papacy was the power that trampled upon it.
00:46:34Notice this. This is a track, track number five, Advent and Sabbath track that he had to pin,
00:46:44the sanctuary in the 2300 days. Notice what he says. He said, quote, and I'm using old references here
00:46:50because I'm trying to show this isn't new. It's been claimed that there are these new theories,
00:46:57and it's not new. That's what I'm just trying to show. Notice what Uriah Smith says. Quote,
00:47:03again, we read in Daniel 8.13 about treading the sanctuary underfoot, and it may be asked how a
00:47:10sanctuary in heaven can be trodden underfoot. These expressions are figurative, as will be seen by
00:47:17Hebrews 10.29, which speaks of treading underfoot the Son of God. The sanctuary can be trodden
00:47:25underfoot in the same sense that the Son of God. Its minister can. Thus, the Pope has trodden underfoot
00:47:31the sanctuary by calling his own sanctuary, or temple, the temple of God, and turning away the
00:47:37worship of men from the temple of God in heaven to his own sanctuary at Rome. And he has trodden underfoot
00:47:44the Son of God, the minister of that sanctuary by exalting himself above all that is called God,
00:47:50and assuming to be the head of the church in the place of Jesus Christ. End quote.
00:47:55So you see, they had this understanding. What about James White? James White concurred, actually.
00:48:04In an Advent Review and Sabbath Herald article, January of 1851, notice what James White penned.
00:48:14Quote,
00:48:14It may be said that the heavenly sanctuary is not capable of being trodden underfoot, but we ask,
00:48:21is it not as capable of being trodden underfoot as the Son of God, who is the minister of the same
00:48:26sanctuary? Says Paul, and then he quotes Paul,
00:48:30Of how much sore punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden underfoot
00:48:35the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified
00:48:41an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? He quoted Hebrews 10.29.
00:48:49James White says,
00:48:50We say then that the sanctuary in heaven has been trodden underfoot in the same sense
00:48:55that the Son of God has been trodden underfoot. Was the Son of God trodden underfoot by sacrificing
00:49:02a pig on the altar by Antiochus Epiphanes? Think it through.
00:49:11In a similar manner, he goes on, has the host, the true church, also been trodden down? Those
00:49:18who have rejected the Son of God have trodden him underfoot, and of course have trodden underfoot
00:49:23his sanctuary. The Catholic Church has trodden underfoot not only the Holy City, but the
00:49:28sanctuary and its minister or priest, the Son of God. Rome has been called the Holy City
00:49:33and the Eternal City, which can only be said of the city of the living God, the New Jerusalem.
00:49:38End quote.
00:49:40And that's James White saying this in January of 1851.
00:49:45Now, no, that's after 1844, but these are things that they understood.
00:49:52It's not new. They debated this back and forth, friends. Don't get me wrong.
00:49:58And this is what you see.
00:50:01I mean, later on, Alonzo T. Jones, professor of history at the university there, the college
00:50:08in Battle Creek, he explained what the taking away of the daily was. This is in his book,
00:50:16The Consecrated Way to Christian Perfection, pages 102 and 103. This is rather long, but
00:50:22listen to what he says. He explains it.
00:50:25Quote,
00:50:25In the place of Christ, the true and divine high priest of God's own appointment in heaven,
00:50:31she, and he's speaking of the Roman papacy, the Catholic Church, she has substituted a human,
00:50:36sinful, and sinning priesthood on earth. In the place of the continual heavenly ministry of Christ
00:50:43in his true priesthood upon his true sacrifice, she has substituted only an enderful ministry
00:50:49of a human, earthly, sinful, and sinning priesthood in the once a day daily sacrifice of the Mass.
00:50:59And in the place of the sanctuary and the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man,
00:51:04she has substituted her own meeting places of wood and stone, to which she applies the term
00:51:10sanctuary. Thus, instead of the one continual high priest, the one continual ministry, and
00:51:19the one continual sanctuary in heaven, which God has ordained and which is the only true,
00:51:25she has devised out of her own heart and substituted for the only true.
00:51:30Many high priests, many ministries, many sacrifices, and many sanctuaries on earth,
00:51:37which in every possible relation are only human and utterly false.
00:51:43And it can never take away sin, Brother Jones says.
00:51:48He says, no earthly priesthood, no earthly ministry, no earthly sacrifice or service in any
00:51:55earthly sanctuary can ever take away sin. This is what Paul, this is what we learn in Hebrews,
00:52:03the book of Hebrews, in which he says here. He says, in the book of Hebrews, we have seen
00:52:09that even the priesthood, the ministry, the sacrifice, and the service in the earthly sanctuary,
00:52:14the very service which the Lord himself ordained on earth, never took away sin.
00:52:19The inspired record is that they never did take away sin, and that they never could take away sin.
00:52:28He says, it is only the priesthood and ministry of Christ that can ever take away sin. Praise God.
00:52:36And this is a priesthood and a ministry in heaven, and of a sanctuary that is in heaven.
00:52:41For when Christ was on earth, he was not a priest, and if he had remained on earth until this hour,
00:52:48he would not yet be a priest. As it stands written, and he quotes Hebrews 8, 4,
00:52:53if he were on earth, he should not be a priest.
00:52:58Thus, by plain word and abundant illustration, God has demonstrated that no earthly priesthood,
00:53:04sacrifice, or ministry can ever take away sin, end quote.
00:53:07Just a powerful, it's actually a very good book,
00:53:10The Consecrated Way to Christian Perfection, that Jones has laid out.
00:53:15It's a good one to read.
00:53:18But, I guess what I'm saying, it's from these and many more statements
00:53:26that have been researched, that have swayed me,
00:53:34it proved to me that it's not possible to maintain any longer
00:53:38that the daily of Daniel 8 refers to paganism,
00:53:41and that it was taken away in 508 A.D.
00:53:45I think the history of that period,
00:53:48actually, it just doesn't line up with that interpretation.
00:53:52There's nothing, actually, that I can find in the spirit of prophecy which requires it.
00:53:56It's just another misunderstanding, you see, I believe, by William Miller,
00:53:59and doesn't take anything away from the truths that he discovered
00:54:03and that he shared in the Great Advent Awakening.
00:54:07And I'll be addressing that in a separate message, I hope, here very soon.
00:54:11I'll just lay it out there.
00:54:12We're not to argue over this.
00:54:14It really is a kind of a minor thing that I touched on with others.
00:54:20It's kind of a minor thing we can get sucked up in.
00:54:22Satan would love, you know, who was it?
00:54:24H.M.S. Richards would always say,
00:54:28the devil's rabbits.
00:54:29We've got to quit chasing the devil's rabbits.
00:54:32That's not our mission for today.
00:54:34Our mission is Revelation 14.
00:54:37This is to argue over the daily by some, you know.
00:54:44But I think we should see both sides and just lay it out
00:54:47and just let it fall where it may.
00:54:51I think we can agree to that, right?
00:54:52Let's get back to Daniel 8, verse 12.
00:54:56Daniel 8, verse 12.
00:54:57Remember it said,
00:54:57And a host was given him against the daily sacrifice,
00:55:01the Lord's added, by reason of transgression.
00:55:04It was cast down the truth to the ground,
00:55:07and it practiced and prospered.
00:55:09Now I want you to notice
00:55:11that the little horn's host helps fight against the daily
00:55:16by reason of transgression.
00:55:19The word transgression there,
00:55:24Pesa,
00:55:25it's the strongest in the Old Testament
00:55:27for this type of sin.
00:55:28It really means rebellion or revolt.
00:55:32The little horn and his host are not simply sinning.
00:55:36They're revolting,
00:55:38or they're openly rebelling against the prince.
00:55:42They're openly rebelling against the daily
00:55:44in the place of the sanctuary.
00:55:45You know, we recall in Daniel 7, verse 21,
00:55:50the king of the north,
00:55:51in Daniel 11, verse 36,
00:55:53the man of sin in 2 Thessalonians 2,
00:55:55and the beast of Revelation 13,
00:55:56they all manifest this same attitude.
00:55:59It's an open and willful rebellion
00:56:02against the prince,
00:56:03against the daily,
00:56:04and the place of the sanctuary.
00:56:05And amazingly,
00:56:13in all these passages,
00:56:15we're told that the little horn and his host
00:56:17prosper in their endeavor,
00:56:20at least for a while.
00:56:26At least for a while.
00:56:27I meant to say Daniel 7, 25 there.
00:56:29I think I said Daniel 7, 21.
00:56:31Daniel 7, 25,
00:56:33Daniel 11, 36,
00:56:352 Thessalonians 2,
00:56:36verses 3 and 4,
00:56:37Revelation 13,
00:56:38verse 5 to 7.
00:56:40There we go.
00:56:42Look those up.
00:56:43Read them.
00:56:44Now, Daniel 7, 21 tells us
00:56:46that the little horn made war with the saints,
00:56:48prevailed against them.
00:56:50Right?
00:56:51Daniel 11, 36 informs us
00:56:52that the king of the north
00:56:53shall do according to his will.
00:56:56Paul tells us there in 2 Thessalonians,
00:56:59that, well, when you read that,
00:57:05it's followed by a description
00:57:06of an extended period.
00:57:09Right?
00:57:10When the man of sin
00:57:11and the mystery of iniquity
00:57:12do their woeful work,
00:57:14Paul's talking about.
00:57:16And the same idea, again,
00:57:18is found in the book of Revelation,
00:57:19where Babylon mows down the saints.
00:57:22Revelation 6, right?
00:57:23They cry out for justice.
00:57:25Look at verses 9 through 11
00:57:27of Revelation 6.
00:57:30And eventually,
00:57:30their pleas will be answered,
00:57:31but there is a period
00:57:32during which Babylon prevails over them.
00:57:36In other words,
00:57:37for a period,
00:57:38the little horn and his host
00:57:39gain the ascendancy
00:57:41over the prince and his host.
00:57:44And this is actually
00:57:45what necessitates the judgment.
00:57:49See, the purpose of the judgment
00:57:51in this specific context
00:57:53is to reverse the little horn's work.
00:57:57This is really the culmination
00:57:58of what began
00:58:00when Cain killed Abel.
00:58:03I talked about that before,
00:58:04if you recall.
00:58:06The blood of Abel,
00:58:07there in Genesis 4.10,
00:58:08cried out for justice.
00:58:10The judgment will vindicate
00:58:13God's faithful martyrs
00:58:15who've been mowed down
00:58:16in the course of history
00:58:17by those who claim
00:58:18to be followers of God.
00:58:22See, we'll see a repeat of that.
00:58:24They'll be seeking out
00:58:26to destroy the remnant
00:58:27of God's people
00:58:28here at the end of time,
00:58:30thinking they're doing God's will.
00:58:31Let me share this.
00:58:36Again, go back to
00:58:37The Consecrated Way
00:58:38to Christian Perfection,
00:58:39the book by A.T. Jones,
00:58:42pages 99 to 101.
00:58:44Notice what he says here.
00:58:47Tell me about the reason
00:58:47of transgression.
00:58:50He says, quote,
00:58:50It was by reason of transgression,
00:58:53that is, by reason of sin,
00:58:55that this power gained the host
00:58:57that was used to cast down
00:58:59the truth to the ground,
00:59:00to shut away from the church
00:59:02and the world Christ's priesthood,
00:59:04his ministry, and his sanctuary,
00:59:06and to cast it all down
00:59:07to the ground
00:59:08and tread it underfoot.
00:59:10It was by reason of transgression
00:59:12that this is the consideration
00:59:13and the revelation
00:59:15upon which the apostle
00:59:16in 2 Thessalonians
00:59:17defines this power
00:59:19as the man of sin
00:59:21and the mystery of iniquity.
00:59:25And in the order of God,
00:59:28it was Christ in his ministry
00:59:30and sanctuary in heaven.
00:59:31And this alone,
00:59:32that in truth was the object
00:59:35of the Levitical system.
00:59:37That's another point.
00:59:38Think about that.
00:59:39And that is truly
00:59:41the Christian succession
00:59:42to that system.
00:59:44Remember when we started
00:59:45this whole series of prophecies,
00:59:46I said,
00:59:46we've got to learn some things
00:59:47about the sanctuary
00:59:48in order to rightly understand
00:59:51biblical prophecies.
00:59:52Because the Christian system
01:00:01is the succession
01:00:03to the Levitical system,
01:00:05you see.
01:00:07Literal, spiritual.
01:00:09Right?
01:00:10He goes on, he says,
01:00:12therefore went in
01:00:12and by the apostasy
01:00:13the system of bishops
01:00:15as high priests,
01:00:16presbyters as priests,
01:00:18deacons as Levites,
01:00:19and the supper as a sacrifice
01:00:21was insinuated
01:00:23as the Christian succession
01:00:24to the Levitical system.
01:00:26This, of course,
01:00:27was,
01:00:27this of itself
01:00:31was nothing else
01:00:33than to put this false system
01:00:35of the apostasy
01:00:36in the place of the true,
01:00:38completely to shut out the true,
01:00:40and finally to cast it down
01:00:41to the ground
01:00:42and stamp upon it.
01:00:43Sorry, my notes started blinking.
01:00:47I'm like,
01:00:48what's it doing?
01:00:49He goes on, he says,
01:00:51and this is how it is
01:00:52that this great Christian truth
01:00:54of the true priesthood,
01:00:55ministry,
01:00:56and sanctuary of Christ
01:00:57is not known
01:00:58to the Christian world today.
01:01:00He says,
01:01:01the man of sin
01:01:02has taken it away.
01:01:05He's cast it down
01:01:06to the ground
01:01:07and stamped upon it.
01:01:08The mystery of iniquity
01:01:10has hid this great truth
01:01:11from the church
01:01:12and the world
01:01:13during all these ages
01:01:15in which the man of sin
01:01:16has held place in the world
01:01:17and has passed itself off
01:01:19as God
01:01:19and its iniquitous host
01:01:21as the church of God.
01:01:22End quote.
01:01:23What a statement.
01:01:29What a statement.
01:01:32And notice this statement.
01:01:34This is from
01:01:35Manuscript Releases,
01:01:36Volume 5, page 45.
01:01:38It's referring to Daniel 8, verse 12.
01:01:41Quote,
01:01:42Here comes a power
01:01:43under the control of Satan
01:01:45that puts up the first day
01:01:48to be observed.
01:01:49God calls him
01:01:50the man of sin
01:01:51because he has,
01:01:52notice the terminology she uses,
01:01:55perpetuated transgression.
01:02:00What is the truth
01:02:02that the papacy cast down?
01:02:04Certainly it was the truth
01:02:06concerning the daily ministry of Christ
01:02:08and the place of his sanctuary
01:02:09where Christ hears prayers
01:02:11and forgives sin
01:02:13that papal Rome cast down
01:02:14or obscured.
01:02:15Surely it's that.
01:02:15But the Bible has a much wider
01:02:18and all-encompassing application
01:02:20in mind for what this means.
01:02:24I mean, notice what it tells us
01:02:25in Psalm 119 and verse 142.
01:02:27It says,
01:02:29Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness.
01:02:31Notice,
01:02:32And thy law is the truth.
01:02:34The Bible says,
01:02:37God's law is the truth.
01:02:40So,
01:02:41why and by whose authority
01:02:43is the law of God
01:02:44introduced in Daniel 8, verse 12?
01:02:47Let's think about this.
01:02:50After the papacy
01:02:51cast down the truth to the ground
01:02:53or cast down the law of God,
01:02:56Daniel 8, verse 12,
01:02:58thus proceeding
01:02:58in transgression
01:03:00in the full sense,
01:03:01the Bible says,
01:03:02it practiced and prospered.
01:03:04That is,
01:03:05for a time
01:03:06and times
01:03:07and the dividing of time
01:03:08or for 1260 years.
01:03:09It did this without obstruction.
01:03:11It practiced
01:03:12and it prospered.
01:03:13I'll talk to that
01:03:14about that again
01:03:15in a moment.
01:03:17Daniel 7, verse 25
01:03:18confirms this
01:03:19when the little horn
01:03:20thinks to have changed
01:03:21the law of God.
01:03:24And he shall speak great words
01:03:25against the Most High
01:03:26and shall wear out the saints
01:03:29to the Most High
01:03:30and think to change times
01:03:31and laws
01:03:32and they shall be given
01:03:33into his hand
01:03:34until a time
01:03:34times in the dividing of time.
01:03:39Now,
01:03:40let's remember
01:03:41that when we see
01:03:43the term speaking
01:03:44in prophecy
01:03:45in the context
01:03:46of a nation,
01:03:47it actually depicts
01:03:48an action
01:03:48in the process
01:03:50that represents
01:03:51the act of legislation
01:03:52and courts
01:03:52and enforcement.
01:03:55Notice what we read
01:03:56from the book
01:03:57The Great Controversy,
01:03:58page 442.
01:03:58Two, quote,
01:03:59The speaking of the nation
01:04:01is the action
01:04:02of its legislative
01:04:03and judicial authorities,
01:04:04end quote.
01:04:06And so,
01:04:08it was
01:04:08after the man of sin
01:04:10had thought
01:04:11to change times
01:04:12and laws,
01:04:12the law of God,
01:04:13that the Bible says
01:04:14he was to begin
01:04:15his reign
01:04:16and practice
01:04:16and prosper
01:04:17for a time
01:04:18and times
01:04:19in the dividing of time.
01:04:20And as we've seen
01:04:21in our studies,
01:04:23this was for
01:04:231,200 long years.
01:04:27Now,
01:04:27during the 1,260 years,
01:04:29the government of Satan
01:04:30was to be displayed,
01:04:31you see,
01:04:31before the entire universe.
01:04:34Satan was represented
01:04:35by his earthly representative,
01:04:36the Bishop of Rome,
01:04:38who was led on
01:04:40to destroy the mighty
01:04:42and the holy people
01:04:43of God.
01:04:44We read in Daniel 8,
01:04:44verse 24.
01:04:45I think this statement
01:04:50from page 64,
01:04:52the Great Controversy,
01:04:54shows that the laws of God,
01:04:55that the law of God
01:04:56was to be cast down,
01:04:58trampled in the dust,
01:05:00unimpeded throughout
01:05:01all of Christendom
01:05:03at a specific time
01:05:04in earth's history.
01:05:05Great Controversy,
01:05:06page 64.
01:05:07Notice this.
01:05:09Quote,
01:05:09Among the leading causes
01:05:11that had led
01:05:11to the separation
01:05:12of the true church
01:05:13from Rome
01:05:14was the hatred
01:05:15of the latter
01:05:15toward the Bible Sabbath.
01:05:18As foretold by prophecy,
01:05:20the papal power
01:05:20cast down the truth
01:05:21to the ground.
01:05:22Direct reference.
01:05:25The law of God
01:05:25was trampled in the dust
01:05:27while the traditions
01:05:27and customs of men
01:05:28were exalted.
01:05:30Haven't we seen this?
01:05:31I've laid out
01:05:31enough evidence of this.
01:05:33The churches
01:05:34that were under
01:05:34the rule of the papacy
01:05:35were early compelled
01:05:37to honor the Sunday
01:05:38as a holy day.
01:05:40Amid the prevailing error
01:05:41and superstition,
01:05:42many,
01:05:43even of the true
01:05:44people of God
01:05:44became so bewildered
01:05:46that while they
01:05:47observed the Sabbath
01:05:48they refrained
01:05:48from labor
01:05:49also on the Sunday.
01:05:50But this did not
01:05:51satisfy the papal leaders.
01:05:54This will be repeated
01:05:55by the way.
01:05:57They demanded
01:05:59not only that Sunday
01:06:00be hallowed
01:06:01but that the Sabbath
01:06:02be profaned.
01:06:03Like I said,
01:06:03this will be repeated.
01:06:05And they denounced
01:06:06in the strongest language
01:06:07those who dared
01:06:08to show it honor.
01:06:09It was only by fleeing
01:06:10from the power of Rome
01:06:12that any could
01:06:12obey God's law
01:06:13and peace.
01:06:14Let me read that again.
01:06:17Please,
01:06:18think this through.
01:06:20Consider this.
01:06:21She says,
01:06:22it was only by fleeing
01:06:24from the power of Rome
01:06:25that any could
01:06:26obey God's law
01:06:28in peace.
01:06:29Here's a statement
01:06:34from the Bible
01:06:34Research Institute.
01:06:36Symposium on Daniel
01:06:37Volume 2,
01:06:37page 517.
01:06:39Quote,
01:06:39the next phrase
01:06:40in verse 12,
01:06:41that's Daniel 8
01:06:41in verse 12,
01:06:42states that the truth
01:06:44was to be cast down
01:06:45to the earth.
01:06:47The third scene
01:06:48dealing with the little horn
01:06:49began with the view
01:06:50of its reaching up
01:06:51to heaven
01:06:52to do battle
01:06:53with the prince.
01:06:54So it ends now
01:06:55with the truth
01:06:56falling upon the earth
01:06:57as a result
01:06:57of the horn's activity.
01:06:59The action
01:07:00on the vertical dimension
01:07:01travels in both directions
01:07:03in this scene,
01:07:03just as it did
01:07:04in the previous one
01:07:05in verse 10.
01:07:06The verb,
01:07:07to cast down,
01:07:08is the same
01:07:09as that used
01:07:10for the casting down
01:07:11of the place
01:07:11of the sanctuary
01:07:12in verse 11.
01:07:13It's a lack.
01:07:14This linguistic correlation,
01:07:17the position
01:07:17of this statement
01:07:18as a summary
01:07:19to the final scene
01:07:20in the vision,
01:07:21and the position
01:07:22of this statement
01:07:23in the literary structure
01:07:24of its description,
01:07:25combine
01:07:26to indicate
01:07:27that the truth
01:07:28effected here
01:07:29is not just
01:07:30truth in general,
01:07:31but the truth
01:07:33about the prince's
01:07:34Tamed
01:07:34ministration
01:07:35in his sanctuary.
01:07:38It is a specific
01:07:40truth that is
01:07:40attacked here,
01:07:41not just truth
01:07:41in general.
01:07:44Here's a great
01:07:45statement
01:07:45from Pharaoh.
01:07:48It's in his
01:07:48particular publication,
01:07:50the book of Daniel,
01:07:50page 97.
01:07:52Consider this.
01:07:53He says,
01:07:53It was the papacy
01:07:55which cast down
01:07:55the truth to the ground
01:07:56by changing
01:07:57the law of God,
01:08:00declaring that men
01:08:00burn forever
01:08:01in hellfire,
01:08:03and commanding
01:08:04the worship
01:08:04of men and women.
01:08:05Only the anti-typical
01:08:07day of atonement,
01:08:08the investigative judgment,
01:08:09could prepare
01:08:10the way for Christ
01:08:11to rid the world
01:08:12of this ongoing error.
01:08:13That is something
01:08:14to contemplate.
01:08:17That's a very
01:08:18interesting statement.
01:08:19So, I mean,
01:08:21not only has the papacy
01:08:22placed tradition
01:08:23above the word of God,
01:08:24but they specifically
01:08:25deny the ministerial
01:08:27work of our
01:08:27true high priest
01:08:29in heaven
01:08:29in cleansing
01:08:30the sanctuary.
01:08:32His church
01:08:33of sin.
01:08:36Now let me ask you,
01:08:38check this out.
01:08:40Is there any other
01:08:40Christian church
01:08:41on earth
01:08:42that teaches
01:08:42the sanctuary doctrine
01:08:43and the investigative
01:08:44judgment?
01:08:47Think that through
01:08:48very carefully.
01:08:49Do your own research.
01:08:52It's these truths
01:08:53about Christ's ministry
01:08:54that are cast down
01:08:55to the ground
01:08:55by the papacy,
01:08:56and you'll find
01:08:57that only the people
01:08:58of the advent
01:08:59of the seventh
01:08:59and of his faith
01:09:00teach these precious
01:09:02truths to the world.
01:09:03Same with the
01:09:03three angels' messages.
01:09:06And friends,
01:09:07it'll be these truths
01:09:07that'll save you
01:09:08from being deceived
01:09:09by the man of sin
01:09:10and the great lie
01:09:11when Satan
01:09:13impersonates Christ.
01:09:15Back to the
01:09:16Bible Research Institute,
01:09:17same volume,
01:09:18in page 219.
01:09:19Quote,
01:09:19The vision
01:09:20in chapter 8
01:09:21places more stress
01:09:22upon his work
01:09:23as a priest
01:09:24than it does
01:09:25upon his role
01:09:26as a ruler.
01:09:27It is the prince's
01:09:28tamid ministration
01:09:29that Little Horn
01:09:30attempts to take away
01:09:31and counterfeit.
01:09:32It is the foundation
01:09:33of his sanctuary
01:09:35that the Little Horn
01:09:35symbolically
01:09:36casts down
01:09:37to the earth.
01:09:38It is the truth
01:09:39about him
01:09:40and his ministration
01:09:41and his sanctuary
01:09:42that the Little Horn
01:09:43casts down
01:09:44to the earth
01:09:44and tramples upon.
01:09:46Well, part of the struggle
01:09:47between the Little Horn
01:09:48and the prince
01:09:49in chapter 8
01:09:50involves the host
01:09:50of his stars,
01:09:52the saints.
01:09:54More of it focuses
01:09:55upon the work
01:09:56of the prince
01:09:56and the sanctuary
01:09:57for his people.
01:09:58And then they say,
01:09:59Why is the sanctuary
01:10:00so important?
01:10:01The evident reason
01:10:04for its importance
01:10:05has to do with
01:10:06what goes on in it.
01:10:08That's a common sense
01:10:09statement.
01:10:10And then they say,
01:10:11It is in the sanctuary
01:10:12through its ministration
01:10:14that the prince
01:10:16is working out
01:10:17the salvation
01:10:18of people.
01:10:21This is what
01:10:22the Little Horn
01:10:22attempts to take away
01:10:23and control.
01:10:24In this way,
01:10:25diverting the attention
01:10:26of the people
01:10:27from the true plan
01:10:28of salvation.
01:10:30But the true plan
01:10:30of salvation
01:10:31as executed
01:10:32by the prince
01:10:33will eventually prevail.
01:10:35The salvation
01:10:35of the people
01:10:36will be accomplished.
01:10:37End quote.
01:10:39You see,
01:10:39the Little Horn
01:10:40is just doing
01:10:40what Satan did
01:10:41at the very beginning
01:10:42in the garden.
01:10:43You shall not surely die.
01:10:47You don't need God.
01:10:54Can you imagine
01:10:55what Daniel thought
01:11:00when he saw
01:11:02and envisioned
01:11:03this little horn
01:11:03trampling upon
01:11:05God's law
01:11:06and sanctuary
01:11:08and people
01:11:09and that it practiced
01:11:12and prospered
01:11:14while doing it?
01:11:15the ongoing nature
01:11:23of these two
01:11:24overhanging verbs
01:11:26acted or practiced
01:11:28and prospered.
01:11:29They indicate
01:11:31that the little horn
01:11:31was to be allotted
01:11:32a period of time
01:11:33to exercise its powers.
01:11:35It would practice
01:11:36and prosper
01:11:37for 1260 days
01:11:39or actually literal years.
01:11:40and this was just
01:11:41the
01:11:42excuse me
01:11:43this was just
01:11:44the beginning
01:11:45of Daniel's
01:11:46astonishment
01:11:47because
01:11:49we have yet
01:11:50to get to the
01:11:512300 years.
01:11:55I'm going to close up here
01:11:57but I want to share this
01:11:58from Uriah Smith's book
01:12:00Daniel and Revelation
01:12:01pages 160 to 162.
01:12:03He says quote
01:12:04of this ecclesiastical power
01:12:07it is declared
01:12:07that it has practiced
01:12:09practiced its deceptions
01:12:11on the people
01:12:12practiced in schemes
01:12:14of cunning
01:12:14to carry out
01:12:15its own ends
01:12:16and aggrandize
01:12:17its own power.
01:12:19Likewise
01:12:20it has prospered
01:12:22it has made war
01:12:23upon the saints
01:12:24and prevailed
01:12:24against them
01:12:25it has well
01:12:26nigh run
01:12:27its allotted career
01:12:28and is soon
01:12:29to be broken
01:12:29without hand
01:12:30to be given
01:12:31to the burning flame
01:12:32and to perish
01:12:33in the consuming glory
01:12:34of the second appearing
01:12:36of our Lord
01:12:37end quote.
01:12:38Praise
01:12:39his holy name.
01:12:41Jesus is coming soon
01:12:42and all
01:12:44this would be
01:12:45destroyed
01:12:45friends.
01:12:47But as I close up here
01:12:48I want to
01:12:49consider
01:12:51just what the little horn
01:12:52did to the sanctuary.
01:12:54I have six things
01:12:55to share.
01:12:58First
01:12:58it acted
01:13:01toward the sanctuary
01:13:02somewhat in the manner
01:13:03of a foreign
01:13:04invader.
01:13:05The main symbols
01:13:06of the beasts
01:13:07and horns
01:13:08in chapter 8
01:13:08represent political powers
01:13:09don't they?
01:13:11And so
01:13:11when the little horn
01:13:12intrudes into the realm
01:13:14of the sanctuary
01:13:14it does so
01:13:15somewhat in the same vein
01:13:16as those powers
01:13:18would have done.
01:13:20Second
01:13:20it stood up
01:13:22or exalted itself
01:13:23against the prince
01:13:24to whom the sanctuary
01:13:25and its ministry
01:13:27belong.
01:13:28Though he carries
01:13:29a political title
01:13:30here
01:13:31the prince
01:13:31exercises
01:13:32a priestly
01:13:32function
01:13:33as well
01:13:33which I just
01:13:35read about
01:13:36some quotes
01:13:36about that
01:13:37and you can see
01:13:38that.
01:13:38That's what the
01:13:39sanctuary
01:13:39it's a ministry
01:13:41right?
01:13:43So in diverting
01:13:44that function
01:13:44the little horn
01:13:45takes on a priestly
01:13:46character too.
01:13:48Church and state
01:13:49right?
01:13:50Third thing
01:13:51it disrupts
01:13:52or attempts
01:13:52to disrupt
01:13:53the services
01:13:53of the sanctuary.
01:13:56According to
01:13:56the description
01:13:57of the vision
01:13:58the little horn
01:13:58was to take
01:13:59away the
01:13:59timid
01:14:00the continual
01:14:01ministration
01:14:02in the sanctuary
01:14:02from the prince
01:14:03who governs
01:14:04the sanctuary.
01:14:06And so
01:14:06doing
01:14:07it also
01:14:08endeavored
01:14:08to place
01:14:09these functions
01:14:09under the
01:14:10control
01:14:10of its host.
01:14:12In one way
01:14:13or another
01:14:13therefore
01:14:13the true
01:14:14services
01:14:14of the
01:14:14sanctuary
01:14:15were to
01:14:15be deflected
01:14:16out of
01:14:16their course.
01:14:17Fourth thing
01:14:18it was to
01:14:19cast the
01:14:20foundation
01:14:20place
01:14:21of the
01:14:21sanctuary
01:14:22down to
01:14:22the earth.
01:14:24So since
01:14:25we're dealing
01:14:25with a symbolic
01:14:26rather than
01:14:27literal movement
01:14:28from heaven
01:14:28to earth
01:14:29one might
01:14:29think of
01:14:30the transfer
01:14:30of some
01:14:30of the
01:14:31functions
01:14:31of that
01:14:31sanctuary
01:14:32from the
01:14:33sacred realm
01:14:34of heaven
01:14:34to the
01:14:35secular realm
01:14:35of earth.
01:14:37From the
01:14:37holy to the
01:14:38unholy.
01:14:39Right?
01:14:41A fifth thing
01:14:42it was to
01:14:44introduce
01:14:44transgression
01:14:45into the
01:14:47services
01:14:47or function
01:14:48of the
01:14:48sanctuary.
01:14:49It was to
01:14:49introduce
01:14:50sin
01:14:51into the
01:14:54church.
01:14:54In other
01:14:55words
01:14:55they're not
01:14:55going to
01:14:55cleanse the
01:14:56sanctuary
01:14:57they're
01:14:57defiling
01:14:58the
01:14:59sanctuary.
01:14:59It's not
01:15:00just a
01:15:00pig
01:15:01one time.
01:15:03Are you
01:15:03starting to
01:15:04see it?
01:15:07Meaning in
01:15:08the statement
01:15:08which refers
01:15:09to the
01:15:09little horn
01:15:10being given
01:15:10a host
01:15:11over the
01:15:11timid
01:15:12verse 12
01:15:12the idea
01:15:13is added
01:15:14that it
01:15:14would do
01:15:14so
01:15:15by
01:15:15in
01:15:16through
01:15:17with
01:15:18transgression
01:15:19in one
01:15:23way or
01:15:23another
01:15:24therefore
01:15:24transgression
01:15:25has been
01:15:25introduced
01:15:26into
01:15:26services
01:15:27or
01:15:27functions
01:15:28that
01:15:28were
01:15:28intended
01:15:29to
01:15:29treat
01:15:30transgression
01:15:30their
01:15:34purpose
01:15:34has been
01:15:34subverted.
01:15:37I mean
01:15:38it's easy
01:15:38for us
01:15:39to read
01:15:40the Bible
01:15:40and we
01:15:40look at
01:15:41Christian
01:15:41church
01:15:42today
01:15:43and we
01:15:43say
01:15:43there's
01:15:43a lot
01:15:44of
01:15:44paganism
01:15:44in the
01:15:45church.
01:15:46How did
01:15:46it get
01:15:47there?
01:15:49Think it
01:15:49through.
01:15:50A
01:15:52sixth
01:15:52thing
01:15:53the
01:15:54little
01:15:54horn
01:15:55was
01:15:55also
01:15:55to
01:15:55cast
01:15:56the
01:15:56truth
01:15:56to
01:15:56the
01:15:56ground
01:15:57and
01:15:57trample
01:15:57upon
01:15:58it.
01:15:59And in
01:15:59context
01:16:00this does
01:16:00not refer
01:16:01to truth
01:16:01in
01:16:02general
01:16:02as
01:16:03found
01:16:04in the
01:16:04Torah
01:16:04for
01:16:04example
01:16:05in the
01:16:05Ten
01:16:05Commandments
01:16:06it
01:16:07refers
01:16:08more
01:16:08specifically
01:16:09to the
01:16:09truth
01:16:09about
01:16:10the
01:16:10sanctuary
01:16:10and
01:16:11about
01:16:11the
01:16:11prince
01:16:12and
01:16:12his
01:16:12ministry
01:16:13and
01:16:15its
01:16:15relation
01:16:16to
01:16:17God's
01:16:18law.
01:16:18Thus the
01:16:21climax of
01:16:22this
01:16:22prophecy
01:16:22depicts
01:16:23in
01:16:24essence
01:16:24a
01:16:24struggle
01:16:25over
01:16:25the
01:16:25sanctuary
01:16:26between
01:16:26the
01:16:27little
01:16:27horn
01:16:27and
01:16:28the
01:16:28prince
01:16:28of
01:16:28the
01:16:28host.
01:16:30Given
01:16:31the
01:16:31extent
01:16:31of
01:16:31this
01:16:32attack
01:16:32upon
01:16:32the
01:16:32prince
01:16:33of
01:16:33sanctuary
01:16:33the
01:16:33question
01:16:34I
01:16:34think
01:16:34that
01:16:35naturally
01:16:35arises
01:16:36as to
01:16:36why
01:16:37the
01:16:37sanctuary
01:16:38assumes
01:16:38so
01:16:39much
01:16:40importance
01:16:40in
01:16:40this
01:16:41prophecy
01:16:41we
01:16:42need
01:16:42to
01:16:42think
01:16:42about
01:16:42that.
01:16:43Clearly
01:16:43this
01:16:44is not
01:16:44a
01:16:44dispute
01:16:45over
01:16:46real

01:16:47right?

01:17:03the
