00:00:00Hello, friends. I'm Pastor Joe Lasswell. I welcome you to our study here at this time.

00:00:14We're getting back into the book of Daniel. We'll be wrapping up the book of Daniel chapter

00:00:188 here probably next time for sure. But we're going to get back into it here in just a moment.

00:00:27And before we do that, we want to ask the Lord to be with us always. And I encourage you

00:00:35to do this. Anytime you come to God's holy book to learn from it, come with a settled

00:00:44heart wanting to learn the truth and what the Bible has to say. Not to dig through it

00:00:49like, you know, a regular old source book or an encyclopedia or anything like that. Prepare

00:00:54our hearts to receive the truth that God has for us. And so before we do that, we want

00:00:59to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us and help us to discern these things that he has brought

00:01:03to the prophets and the apostles and disciples to share with us who live down here in the

00:01:10time of the end. And so I invite you to kneel if possible. If you can't physically do it,

00:01:17that's fine as long as we bow our hearts together in our heads as we come before our maker with

00:01:26reverent awe. Let's pray. Father in heaven, we do thank thee for all the wonderful blessings

00:01:32that you pour out upon us, even some of the hard times that we go through. It's for our

00:01:37best benefit. You allow these things because you want us to have that character, to have that

00:01:44integrity, to have the nobleness to share the gospel with all those around us. You're in

00:01:52a lost condition. And Father, we praise your name today that we cling to the promise that

00:01:59those who believe in Jesus will be saved. And we hang on to that. We trust thee, Father.

00:02:04We bless thee. We pray and thank thee for the Holy Spirit that you've given to us. We pray

00:02:09for the Holy Spirit now as we open your word. Help us to learn the truth, to discern it,

00:02:14deep down in most everyone's hearts. They know that there is one God. Because you've

00:02:22put a little bit of faith in everybody. And so we pray that the Holy Spirit will work

00:02:27upon that faith in each soul, that they will come to know the love of Jesus and to accept

00:02:35that most precious gift that's been given to us. We thank you for Jesus. We praise your name

00:02:41that he was willing even to come here and to save us. He counted heaven lost if we weren't

00:02:46there. And Father, we don't completely understand it. We're just mere mortal beings. But we are

00:02:55grateful from the bottom of our hearts. Help us, Lord, to see the truth as we study this morning.

00:03:02Forgive us our sins. We claim that blood that was shed by Jesus there.

00:03:06And we pray that we may learn and be fortified against sin, bring glory to thee in all things.

00:03:17Please be with those who couldn't be with us here at this time, those on our prayer list,

00:03:20those suffering, those that are seeking. May we be a light to thee. Give me the words to speak

00:03:28this morning, Father, I pray in the precious name of Jesus, who is so worthy. Amen. And amen.

00:03:38It's so good to be with you, friends. Like I said, we are getting back into Daniel chapter 8.

00:03:46And this particular set of studies in chapter 8 I've entitled, The Desolator. The Desolator.

00:03:54Remember in chapter 7 it was the bold pretender. He's become also the desolator. When we get

00:04:01into chapter 9 he is the destroyer. And we will find that out. In fact, he destroys a lot

00:04:06here in chapter 8 as well. But he's more of a desolator here in chapter 8. In chapter 9

00:04:11he is a destroyer. And he crucified our Lord in an attempt to destroy all things good.

00:04:20But we are in part of chapter 8 of Daniel. And I want to start with a recap of what we've learned

00:04:34from our last study. It's been a little while since we've been together. That was part 10.

00:04:39We were looking at Daniel chapter 8 and verse 14. And here are some of the things that we learned

00:04:47from that study. We learned that in Leviticus and elsewhere there are passages in which the

00:04:55continual refers to the morning and evening sacrifice. But it always does so as a single unit.

00:05:03Remember, some scholars try to separate them apart. And they come up with this 1150 days.

00:05:10They're trying to get Antiochus Epiphanes to fit into this. But you can't do it.

00:05:17Basically because it's not the truth.

00:05:20You know, they're trying to shove a square peg into a round hole of truth and they can't do it.

00:05:27But the Lord guides us into the truth, doesn't He?

00:05:29But we found that the morning and evening sacrifice

00:05:33always does so as a single unit there in Leviticus.

00:05:36It is a continual burnt offering. Notice it's singular.

00:05:41Offering. Not plural. Offerings.

00:05:45Continual is a...

00:05:46Basically it's a technical term which

00:05:48in the Hebrew applies to both sacrifices as a unit.

00:05:53The double sacrifice is spoken of

00:05:55as a singular unit.

00:05:57That's what we learned. One of the things we learned.

00:05:59We learned in Daniel 8.14

00:06:01is not referring to any offerings.

00:06:04We've learned that from the beginning of this.

00:06:06A study in chapter 8.

00:06:10It is actually an unproven assumption

00:06:14that the 2300 evening morning expression refers to the

00:06:19Talmud sacrifices.

00:06:22Because the word sacrifices is not in Daniel 8.14.

00:06:26In fact, the five Talmud daily instances in the King James Version

00:06:31where translators have added the word sacrifices.

00:06:36You know, daily sacrifice.

00:06:39Those in Daniel are not in the original Hebrew.

00:06:43That is something that we've learned.

00:06:45We learned Christ, the wonderful numberer,

00:06:50chose His words carefully, didn't He?

00:06:52And He used the only phrase

00:06:54that would definitely, absolutely mean a full 24-hour day.

00:06:59He also chose the only phrase that means

00:07:05an exact 24 hours.

00:07:10We learned that in Genesis 1, verses 5 and 8,

00:07:1513, 19, 23, 31,

00:07:18if you go through Genesis 1 there,

00:07:20with His own mouth,

00:07:24God spoke Arab Boker

00:07:28at the end of each day of creation week.

00:07:31That's a Hebrew.

00:07:32In Daniel 8, verse 14,

00:07:34the same Creator spoke Arab Boker again.

00:07:42Arab Boker

00:07:44There, as the meaning of a 24-hour day,

00:07:47not two half days.

00:07:50That's as solid as the

00:07:52days of creation week, friends.

00:07:57And there's a tie there, isn't there?

00:08:00We learned that the cleansing of the sanctuary

00:08:02is marked by the passing of 2,300 evenings and mornings.

00:08:09The cleansing of the sanctuary involves

00:08:11a work of judgment, right?

00:08:13On the day of atonement.

00:08:17We learned that there is a very important association

00:08:20between the creation and the judgment

00:08:24here in Daniel 8.

00:08:26The evenings and mornings is a phrase

00:08:28found only in the creation story, friends.

00:08:32And so, the judgment of the world

00:08:34is associated with the creation of the world.

00:08:37Why is that?

00:08:40Because God created the world perfect.

00:08:43Remember?

00:08:44And it was good.

00:08:46It was very good, he says.

00:08:48And then sin entered.

00:08:50So, there's a tie in there

00:08:51between creation

00:08:54and the judgment of this world.

00:08:57It's associated.

00:08:59And this association of the judgment

00:09:01with creation,

00:09:03in fact, it's plainly seen in Revelation 14, verse 7

00:09:06with the first angel's messages, isn't it?

00:09:08We learned that the 2,300 evening mornings

00:09:12do not end during the Medo-Persian period.

00:09:15They continue until the time of the end.

00:09:18That was verse 17.

00:09:20Or through the Greek and Little Horn periods.

00:09:23We learned by a careful examination

00:09:27of the occurrence of the words

00:09:29Kazan and Mare in Daniel 8 through 12

00:09:33clearly reveals that while Kazan

00:09:35refers to the total vision

00:09:37from Medo-Persia

00:09:38to the cleansing of the sanctuary,

00:09:41Mare refers in a narrower sense

00:09:44to the question the angel asked about

00:09:46when the vision would come to an end.

00:09:48The Kazan has to do

00:09:51with the totality of the vision of Daniel 8

00:09:54while the Mare has to do

00:09:56with the appearance

00:09:57of the two heavenly beings, remember,

00:09:59and the audition which follows that conversation.

00:10:03That's to say,

00:10:04the word Mare has to do directly

00:10:06with the time element

00:10:07of the Kazan,

00:10:09the entire vision.

00:10:12We learned that

00:10:13while the Kazan was explained in Daniel 8,

00:10:16the Mare was left unexplained.

00:10:21This made it necessary for the angel

00:10:23to return in Daniel 9

00:10:25to clarify the time portion

00:10:26which was not clear to Daniel.

00:10:31We found Zephaniah 3

00:10:32is one place in the Bible

00:10:33that makes it clear

00:10:34that it is possible

00:10:36for apostate priests

00:10:38who claim to serve God

00:10:40to pollute the sanctuary.

00:10:43Some people think that

00:10:45it's impossible

00:10:46but it's not.

00:10:47The Bible is very clear.

00:10:47You can also look at

00:10:48Ezekiel chapter 8

00:10:49about that.

00:10:52We found that

00:10:53a full understanding

00:10:54of the Hebrew word

00:10:56nisdak

00:10:56includes a rather broad

00:10:58collection of meanings

00:10:59including

00:11:00cleansing,

00:11:02vindicating,

00:11:03justifying,

00:11:04setting right,

00:11:08restoring.

00:11:09And according to the words

00:11:12of the wonderful numberer,

00:11:14the actual work done

00:11:15in the heavenly sanctuary

00:11:16beginning in 1844 A.D.

00:11:20would include

00:11:21all those concepts.

00:11:23Not only cleansing

00:11:24but also

00:11:26the investigative

00:11:27judgment.

00:11:29We're talking about

00:11:29Daniel 8

00:11:30verse 14.

00:11:32We learned that

00:11:33the pioneers of the

00:11:35Seventh-day Adventist church

00:11:36discovered a whole cluster

00:11:37of truth

00:11:38shortly after 1844 A.D.

00:11:40as Jesus moved

00:11:42into

00:11:43the most holy place.

00:11:47They learned

00:11:48the immutability

00:11:49of the Ten Commandments,

00:11:51the Sabbath

00:11:52being the seventh day

00:11:53and not the first day.

00:11:55They learned

00:11:56about the investigative

00:11:57judgment,

00:11:58the truth about

00:11:59the state of the dead.

00:12:00They learned about

00:12:01God's health message

00:12:02that you find in the Bible,

00:12:03the gift of prophecy,

00:12:05prophecy,

00:12:05and the three angels'

00:12:07messages to explain

00:12:08it all.

00:12:10It's not just coincidence,

00:12:12you see.

00:12:13The most holy place

00:12:14was opened up

00:12:14and they could see

00:12:17in there

00:12:17and these things

00:12:18were revealed

00:12:19from the Ark of the Covenant.

00:12:21All the truth

00:12:21that you find

00:12:22in God's Word.

00:12:24We learned that

00:12:25in the daily service,

00:12:26the sin of the person

00:12:27was continually transferred

00:12:29either to the

00:12:30sacrificial animal

00:12:31or to the priest.

00:12:32And the blood

00:12:34of the animals

00:12:35was then taken

00:12:36into the first apartment

00:12:37and sprinkled.

00:12:38And that act

00:12:39ceremonially

00:12:40transferred

00:12:41the sin

00:12:43from the person

00:12:44to the tabernacle.

00:12:47We also learned

00:12:48in the yearly service

00:12:49on the Day of Atonement,

00:12:50the sprinkling

00:12:51cleanses

00:12:52the transferred sins

00:12:54out of the sanctuary.

00:12:56As the Bible tells us,

00:12:57it is the shedding

00:12:58of blood

00:12:59that cleanses

00:13:00from sin.

00:13:02We also learned

00:13:04that the court

00:13:05of the heavenly temple,

00:13:07which is the temple

00:13:08of God on earth,

00:13:09is cleansed

00:13:10first of all

00:13:11by a world message

00:13:13exposing the false

00:13:15mediatorial system

00:13:16of the papacy,

00:13:18the little horn,

00:13:19by restoring

00:13:20the knowledge

00:13:21of the true sanctuary

00:13:22and its services

00:13:24and priesthood

00:13:25to God's people.

00:13:27You look at all

00:13:31these things

00:13:31lining up

00:13:32and you can't

00:13:33honestly

00:13:33sit there

00:13:35and say,

00:13:35this is all

00:13:36just a coincidence.

00:13:39Because it's not.

00:13:43We learned also

00:13:44that the court

00:13:45is to be cleansed

00:13:46also by a great revival

00:13:47and reformation

00:13:48in the church

00:13:49that cleanses

00:13:50the earthly habitation

00:13:52of God

00:13:53from all sin.

00:13:55And we learned

00:13:56that since 1844 AD,

00:13:58Christ,

00:13:59in addition

00:14:00to the ministry

00:14:00of intercession,

00:14:03is also performing

00:14:04a ministry

00:14:04of cleansing.

00:14:06That's the

00:14:06pre-advent

00:14:08judgment.

00:14:09Now,

00:14:09that was all

00:14:10the things

00:14:11that we learned

00:14:12in our last study,

00:14:14study number 10

00:14:17or episode 10

00:14:18for those

00:14:19keeping score

00:14:20at home.

00:14:23You could go

00:14:24to Rumble

00:14:25and our church sites

00:14:26and all those

00:14:27and catch up

00:14:28if you missed that.

00:14:31But now we're

00:14:32going to get back

00:14:32into Daniel chapter 8.

00:14:34Let's go to

00:14:34Daniel chapter 8

00:14:35and verse 15.

00:14:39We'll begin there.

00:14:41Daniel 8

00:14:42and verse 15.

00:14:43Let's look at it

00:14:44together.

00:14:45And it came to pass

00:14:47when I,

00:14:48even I,

00:14:48Daniel,

00:14:49had seen the vision

00:14:50and sought

00:14:51for the meaning.

00:14:53Then,

00:14:54behold,

00:14:54there stood before me

00:14:55as the appearance

00:14:56of a man,

00:14:57and I heard a man's voice

00:14:59between the banks

00:15:00of Uli,

00:15:01which called

00:15:01and said,

00:15:02Gabriel,

00:15:03make this man

00:15:04to understand

00:15:06the vision.

00:15:07Now that's Daniel

00:15:10chapter 8

00:15:11verses 15

00:15:12and 16.

00:15:13So Daniel,

00:15:15still in vision

00:15:16by the way,

00:15:17he sought to understand

00:15:18what he saw

00:15:18and heard.

00:15:20He didn't understand

00:15:21what God

00:15:21had shown him.

00:15:23In verse 15,

00:15:25he specifically

00:15:27asked for the meaning

00:15:28of the vision,

00:15:29Kazan,

00:15:29the whole thing,

00:15:31the entirety

00:15:31of the vision

00:15:32of chapter 8.

00:15:35That vision.

00:15:36Daniel did not

00:15:37understand the meaning

00:15:39of what he had seen.

00:15:41Don't we find ourselves

00:15:41in that situation

00:15:42from time to time?

00:15:46You know,

00:15:47many times,

00:15:48the bearers

00:15:49of a prophetic message

00:15:50need to study

00:15:51that message themselves

00:15:52in order to discover

00:15:53its meaning.

00:15:56It's very interesting.

00:15:57Peter kind of

00:15:58talks about this.

00:15:59He tells us,

00:16:00go to 1 Peter

00:16:01chapter 1.

00:16:04Let's look at

00:16:05verses 10 to 12.

00:16:06Notice what Peter says.

00:16:07It's talking about this.

00:16:08Daniel didn't understand it.

00:16:09Sometimes prophets,

00:16:11they're shown things

00:16:11and they don't understand

00:16:12and they study themselves.

00:16:14Why?

00:16:14Because they're human beings

00:16:15just like us.

00:16:191 Peter chapter 1

00:16:21verse 10.

00:16:24Peter says,

00:16:24Of which salvation

00:16:26the prophets

00:16:26have inquired

00:16:27and searched

00:16:28diligently

00:16:31who prophesied

00:16:33of the grace

00:16:33that should come

00:16:34unto you

00:16:35searching what

00:16:37or what manner

00:16:38of time

00:16:38the Spirit of Christ

00:16:39which was in them

00:16:40did signify

00:16:41when it testified

00:16:42beforehand

00:16:43the sufferings of Christ

00:16:44and the glory

00:16:45that should follow.

00:16:46Look at verse 12.

00:16:47Unto whom it was revealed

00:16:49that not unto themselves

00:16:50but unto us

00:16:52they did minister

00:16:53the things

00:16:53which are now

00:16:54reported unto you

00:16:55by them

00:16:57that have preached

00:16:57the gospel

00:16:58unto you

00:16:59what the Holy Ghost

00:16:59sent down from heaven

00:17:01which things

00:17:02the angels

00:17:03desire

00:17:04to look into.

00:17:07Have you ever

00:17:07thought about that?

00:17:08Sometimes angels

00:17:09look into it

00:17:10and go

00:17:10we don't quite

00:17:12understand this.

00:17:14Why would Jesus

00:17:15come down here

00:17:16and do these things

00:17:17and die?

00:17:20What about the gospel?

00:17:23Right?

00:17:23And so

00:17:25we see here too

00:17:27that it is also

00:17:28the duty of the prophet

00:17:29faithfully to relate

00:17:31what he's seen

00:17:32and heard.

00:17:33But here we see

00:17:34that Daniel

00:17:35had a difficult time

00:17:36understanding

00:17:36the entire vision

00:17:38didn't he?

00:17:39He's saying that.

00:17:41Daniel sought

00:17:42for the meaning

00:17:44and while he's

00:17:46seeking for the meaning

00:17:47immediately

00:17:47there stood before

00:17:48the prophet

00:17:49one who had

00:17:49the appearance

00:17:50of a man.

00:17:53And Daniel

00:17:53heard a man's voice

00:17:54calling from the river

00:17:56to Gabriel.

00:17:58Now it's interesting

00:17:59you think about

00:18:00the river Uli

00:18:01and where it's

00:18:01situated

00:18:02in this vision.

00:18:03The river Uli

00:18:05represents

00:18:06the river of time

00:18:07which has its source

00:18:09in eternity.

00:18:11Think about it.

00:18:13Time with which

00:18:14we have to deal

00:18:15is but

00:18:16an infinitely small

00:18:19fraction of eternity.

00:18:20It's like a drop

00:18:21in the bucket.

00:18:22We were talking

00:18:23about this earlier

00:18:23before we began

00:18:24our study.

00:18:27How we're here

00:18:27three score and ten

00:18:29or maybe a little bit

00:18:29longer,

00:18:30maybe shorter

00:18:31but compared to eternity

00:18:32it's not even a drop

00:18:34in the bucket.

00:18:35It's less than that.

00:18:38But on the banks

00:18:39of this river

00:18:40all nations are sighted.

00:18:43There they rise

00:18:44and there they fall,

00:18:45right?

00:18:46And Christ presides

00:18:48over the waters

00:18:48and his voice

00:18:49was heard

00:18:50from between

00:18:50the banks

00:18:51of the river

00:18:51calling

00:18:52to Gabriel.

00:18:55And a commandment

00:18:56is given

00:18:57to make this man

00:18:58Daniel

00:18:59understand the vision.

00:19:03Let's think about

00:19:04that for a minute.

00:19:04Gabriel.

00:19:07Gabriel is a name

00:19:08that signifies

00:19:09the strength of God

00:19:11or man of God.

00:19:14I mean,

00:19:15centuries later

00:19:15this same angel

00:19:16was commissioned

00:19:17to announce

00:19:17the birth of

00:19:18John the Baptist

00:19:19to his father

00:19:19Zacharias.

00:19:22Gabriel was also

00:19:22the bearer

00:19:23of the prophetic

00:19:24messages to John

00:19:25there at Patmos.

00:19:28Gabriel is the

00:19:29angel of prophecy.

00:19:31The messenger

00:19:31who bears the

00:19:32light of truth

00:19:33to men.

00:19:34Gabriel is then

00:19:35the personal

00:19:35attendant

00:19:36of the Son of God.

00:19:39You know,

00:19:39holding the position

00:19:40as light bearer

00:19:41which Satan

00:19:41occupied

00:19:42before he fell.

00:19:43It was Gabriel

00:19:45who announced

00:19:46the birth of the

00:19:46Savior to Mary

00:19:47in Nazareth.

00:19:48You realize this?

00:19:50It was he

00:19:51who led the angel

00:19:52choir on the

00:19:52plains of Bethlehem.

00:19:55It was he

00:19:56with others

00:19:57as the star

00:19:58guided the wise men

00:19:59to that babe

00:20:00in Bethlehem.

00:20:04Gabriel

00:20:04was here

00:20:05addressed

00:20:06by one still

00:20:07higher in rank

00:20:08who had power

00:20:09to command

00:20:10and control

00:20:11his work.

00:20:13And as we

00:20:13learned earlier

00:20:14in our study

00:20:15this third person

00:20:16was none other

00:20:17than the archangel

00:20:18Michael

00:20:19or

00:20:19Jesus the Christ

00:20:21the Son of God.

00:20:23That's a whole

00:20:23other study

00:20:24but people are

00:20:24all mixed up

00:20:25about that.

00:20:26I think Michael

00:20:26is this all

00:20:27powerful angel.

00:20:30You really need

00:20:30to dig into

00:20:31God's word

00:20:31and find that

00:20:32it's Jesus

00:20:33the Christ

00:20:34the Son of God

00:20:35leader of all

00:20:39and all the

00:20:40angels.

00:20:42But again

00:20:43the Hebrew word

00:20:44for vision

00:20:45is Kazan

00:20:46right?

00:20:47Which refers

00:20:48to the entire

00:20:49vision of

00:20:49chapter 8

00:20:50verses 1

00:20:51through 14.

00:20:54That is the

00:20:54word used

00:20:55here in

00:20:55verse 15.

00:20:58Daniel's second

00:20:58vision greatly

00:20:59puzzled him

00:21:00especially that

00:21:00part which

00:21:01related to the

00:21:02career of the

00:21:03little horn.

00:21:04It's interesting

00:21:05that four

00:21:05different times

00:21:07Daniel asks

00:21:10for a further

00:21:11explanation of

00:21:12the vision

00:21:12concerning the

00:21:13little horn.

00:21:16Now the

00:21:16Hebrew word

00:21:17used in

00:21:17verse 16

00:21:18for vision

00:21:20is not

00:21:21Kazan

00:21:22as in the

00:21:22previous verse

00:21:23and we've

00:21:24touched on this

00:21:25before but it's

00:21:25Mare

00:21:26which refers

00:21:28to the part

00:21:29of the vision

00:21:29that Jesus

00:21:30and Gabriel

00:21:31particularly

00:21:32wanted Daniel

00:21:33and us

00:21:35to understand.

00:21:37The time

00:21:38prophecy

00:21:39of the

00:21:402300 days

00:21:41of verses

00:21:4313 and

00:21:4414

00:21:44this time

00:21:46prophecy

00:21:46is actually

00:21:48the focal

00:21:48point

00:21:49of

00:21:50the vision.

00:21:52Let's go

00:21:53back to

00:21:53Daniel chapter

00:21:548

00:21:54look at

00:21:55verse 17

00:21:56verse 17

00:22:01so he came

00:22:02near where I

00:22:02stood

00:22:03and when he

00:22:04came I

00:22:05was afraid

00:22:05and fell

00:22:06upon my

00:22:07face

00:22:07but he

00:22:08said unto

00:22:09me

00:22:09understand

00:22:10oh son

00:22:11of man

00:22:12for at

00:22:13the time

00:22:13of the

00:22:14end

00:22:14shall be

00:22:15the vision

00:22:16that's

00:22:16important

00:22:17now as he

00:22:19was speaking

00:22:19with me

00:22:20I was in

00:22:21a deep

00:22:21sleep on

00:22:22my face

00:22:23toward the

00:22:23ground

00:22:24but he

00:22:25touched

00:22:25me

00:22:25and set

00:22:26me

00:22:27upright

00:22:27is that

00:22:29rather

00:22:29interesting

00:22:30so Gabriel

00:22:33comes near

00:22:34him

00:22:34and Daniel

00:22:36says he's

00:22:37afraid

00:22:37he falls

00:22:38on his

00:22:38face

00:22:39and he's

00:22:39in this

00:22:39deep

00:22:39sleep

00:22:40Gabriel

00:22:41says

00:22:42for at

00:22:44the time

00:22:44of the

00:22:44end

00:22:45shall be

00:22:45the

00:22:45vision

00:22:46the fact

00:22:49that

00:22:50the last

00:22:51events

00:22:51representing

00:22:52the vision

00:22:52will be

00:22:52fulfilled

00:22:53at the

00:22:54end of

00:22:54this

00:22:54world's

00:22:55history

00:22:55we've

00:22:56got to

00:22:57keep

00:22:57that

00:22:57in

00:22:58mind

00:22:58when

00:22:58seeking

00:22:59an

00:23:00interpretation

00:23:00of the

00:23:01symbols
