It's that time of the year where we rev up those engines and head to the seas.

With the T&T Great Race taking place on August 16th, participants are busy getting their boats ready for the event.

That includes Gilson Smith, who is hoping his boat Timeless can win the 60-mile per hour class.

But at the same time, he is not taking the other competitors lightly.

Vinod Narwani and cameraman Brandon Benoit met with Smith in Cocorite, where he was working on his vessel.

00:00the 2025 great race is less than three weeks away which means different vessel
00:07owners are making the necessary preparations for the big day that
00:10includes Gilson Smith who is the proprietor of the 60-mile boat Timeless
00:14Timeless experienced some hiccups earlier this year but Smith expects
00:19things to be hunky-dory going into the prestigious race from Trinidad to
00:22Tobago on August 16th but we had some ups and downs with the engine arm the
00:27gas tank had water couple times and we didn't know so we end up blowing I
00:32think two powerheads one earlier this year and that kept us out from the arm the
00:38national championship we only ran three races out of the five right but so
00:44hoping that we get this one up and running proper we get the gas or the tank
00:49the water the tank no water is getting anymore and we shouldn't have any
00:54problem not supposed to so therefore you should be more or less ready for the
00:58great race itself yeah yeah well the engine right now we just need to start up
01:02and break in so I would say that we already are confident in the in the
01:07rebuild I did it myself and so far everything is looking good so just to
01:13start up give it couple hours are breaking in time and run time and she
01:18should be good to go while Timeless did not come out on top in 2024
01:22Smith is hoping to open the champagne bottle this year but at the same time he
01:27expects the others in his category to give it their all I want to complete the
01:32race right great races is is it's not like a regatta as is a endurance race
01:39sir so the first we say to the first when you have to finish right something like
01:47that well right that is it so I have some stiff competition this year I have some
01:52stiff competition which in cracking he is the guy that won the national
01:56championship that is a 25-foot Boeing with a brand new 300 Mercury racing
02:01engine and well I'm not underestimating anybody in the class but there there are
02:08some boots to look out for Smith is also the vessels throttleman while Dario
02:12Jordan is the driver for this year's great race Jordan was previously the driver
02:17of raw knots but sold that vessel for Smith having Jordan on board is a big
02:22plus he's a good driver the chemistry is good I don't have to tell him what to do
02:29he knows what to do so I would say that we gel perfect together tell us a little
02:35bit about his experience his experience I think this is his third great race but he
02:42has some experience where he he ran his boat to Tobago twice and I think this year would
02:48be his third great race with me according to Smith getting a boat to compete at this
02:53level is by no means easy like any other sport he says he too has to make a lot of sacrifices when
03:00great races are on the corner we are on edge every race team on edge we we work hard night in
03:08in in today trying to prepare the boats because we know is is a long race is a
03:14long grueling race right so we work real hard preparing the boat from from now if
03:20you go to any race team everybody will be working hard on their boats trying to get
03:24it in tip-top condition for the north coast and Tobago Smith hopes more boats can
03:30compete not only in this year's great race but also in the others to follow
03:34when would now any tips export
