Nine days to go to the T&T Great Race.

And Extreme Measures will be aiming for a hat-trick in the 70-mile per-hour class on August 16th.

Vessel owner Johnathan Tardieu is confident about winning, but is fully aware of the unpredictable nature of the sport and is taking no one for granted.

00:00The members of Xtreme Measures have been putting in the final touches to their vessel
00:04ahead of the 2025 edition of the TNT Great Race on August 16th.
00:09The boat races in the 70-mile class and is aiming for a hat-trick in that category.
00:14Driver Jonathan Moutet is fully aware of that, but he does not want to put any pressure on himself.
00:19Try not to think about it too much, try not to jinx it, right?
00:23So we're just going to go out and have our best race.
00:25And with regards to the preparations, how have they been shaping up?
00:29Because I know you're doing a lot of work in the garage.
00:32Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
00:34As usual, we scrap down the entire boat, check everything from top to bottom,
00:38make sure everything is bolted tight, locked down, tie strapped and ready to go.
00:43Moutet is feeling relaxed at this stage, despite the fact that the race is getting closer and closer.
00:49After all, he's been in the business for a long time.
00:52Being a veteran, we've been doing this many, many years.
00:55It's kind of like an everyday thing now, right?
00:57So, you always have butterflies when you're approaching the start line,
01:02but I mean, that disappears soon after the throttle drops, so it should be okay.
01:08Vessel owner and throttleman Jonathan Tardier is also looking forward to an exciting great race this year.
01:14While he's confident about the team's chances, Tardier is not one to get carried away.
01:18We still have quite a bit of work to do, but, you know, as always, we try to do our best to get the boat well prepared.
01:28So, I mean, Saturday morning, we usually, I would like to say we're confident,
01:32but there's always things going on your mind that, you know, did I forget this, did I forget that?
01:36And the amount of years that we've been doing this, one thing I've learned is great race will always find a way to humble you.
01:42So, no matter how confident you feel, there's always something on your mind,
01:47because you know that at the end of the day, this is the great race, and it's called the great race for a reason.
01:51Extreme Measures also won its class at this year's TTPBA National Championships.
01:56But Tardier knows there's a huge difference between Regatars and the great race.
02:00So the question is, which boats must Extreme Measures be wary of going into the prestigious event?
02:07The competitors that we usually face would be, you know, the usual names like Catch This, Ratchet,
02:14we have, we've heard that the legend, Miss Applejay is coming out for us.
02:18I think NWO is supposed to be hitting the water, but as usual, when Saturday morning reaches,
02:29whoever's on the water at that point, we'll deal with it accordingly,
02:32and we'll race our race, and they need to try and keep up with us.
02:36Extreme Measures previously had three members, with Nikolai Assam being the navigator
02:41before switching to 60-mile vessel John Wick as the throttleman in 2024.
02:45But Moutet and Tardier have been with Extreme Measures for years, and the chemistry is second to none.
02:51You know, going up the road, we don't have to talk, I don't have to tell him anything.
02:54Certain things, I'll just hit him a little sign language, or he'll hit me a little sign language
02:58if the attitude of the boat offer a little bit for him.
03:01You know, I will set up the boat in such a way to try to make him comfortable going up the road.
03:06But it doesn't take a whole lot of communication because we've been racing together for so long.
03:11The race begins at 7.15 a.m. with the 70-mile vessels starting from 7.30.
03:17It runs from the foreshore to Storbe, that being the final destination.
03:21And when it was now, I need to export it.
