00:00With the country under a state of emergency for the third time in just over a year and the Ministry
00:06of Defense warning against what it describes as a campaign of misinformation, two social media commentators who supported the UNC
00:14government during the 2025 election campaign are expressing concern now that they have rejoined the PNM faithful.
00:21This morning, right, I was outside, right, and 10 jeeps came, right, they go in the people's house, the thing,
00:32I was outside, they asked me for my phone, right, I blocked, you know, I didn't tell me, I literally
00:38hide it.
00:39So I tell them, I don't have a phone, you know, so we'll be on social media, I tell them
00:46I say, I get rid of it because all the Muslim people, but for the election, I took it upon
00:53my own and I went against the PNM, right, and I would like to say sorry to the population for
00:59pulling on the track.
01:01Another outspoken social media commentator, Candice Edwards, better known as the Warrior Princess, expressed fear of being targeted now that
01:10she too has crossed the political divide.
01:13Yeah, yeah, I come back home. All right, so, yeah, based on what is taking place, I didn't vote for
01:24that.
01:24So my question tonight, can a police officer search or monitor my phone?
01:35Because I'm expecting them, eh, trust me.
01:37It says yes, the regulations permit the monitoring of electronic devices.
01:44It even goes so far as to describe circumstances under which electronic devices can be detained on a search and
01:54subsequently used to retrieve information.
01:58During the previous state of emergency, several people were arrested after authorities said their statements were prejudicial to public safety.
02:07You will be so beaten into submission that even if the law doesn't come into place, you will think twice
02:13before you criticize this government, you know.
02:17You will think twice before you decide I will go to Woodford Square to express my disappointment and what went
02:23on in Parliament.
02:24Meantime, opposition leader Penelope Beckles is calling on the Prime Minister to justify the need for another state of emergency,
02:32which she says is for emergency situations, not routine crime fighting.
02:37They are telling you that they are telling you that they now have evidence from somewhere, again, a whole set
02:48of crimes, a whole set of gowns.
02:51Let me just tell you what the Commissioner said in January.
02:56The Commissioner of Police stated that the decline in murders and serious crime in 2025 was due to sustained intelligence
03:08-driven policing, stronger divisional accountability, and a coordinated national effort, honest, hard-working police work.
03:20And not the state of emergency.
03:23You hear that?
03:25So if they are telling us that the state of emergency was not responsible for the reduction in crime, how
03:34come they want it again?
