00:00Speaking at an annual Diwali celebration at her constituency office in Penal,
00:06Prime Minister Kamala Posada-Bissessa said,
00:08true leadership is not about privilege or power, but about protection and service to the people.
00:14As she recites the story of Rahman Sita, she said her political journey mirrors that story,
00:20describing her return to leadership as a homecoming of light after years of being in opposition.
00:26Like Rahman Sita, as I said, we too have known exile.
00:30Our nation endured years of greed and arrogance, of indifference to the poor,
00:35of institutions crumbling into silence, but we never ever abandoned faith.
00:41We believe that truth, though chained, will one day walk free.
00:47Adding that her 10 years of being in opposition were hard and lonely and not a bed of roses.
00:52I went to war for you, not with anger, but with devotion.
00:58Not for privilege, but for the people, and not for power, but for Prince Brough.
01:03I fought in the parliament and outside the parliament.
01:06We fought in and out, on the streets, everywhere, in silence of sleepless nights,
01:12believing always that our light would return.
01:15The senior council said she first learned of leadership and what it takes to be a great leader as a child.
01:21My light was first kindled in the old penal market over the road, just there.
01:28First kindled in that market across the road.
01:31I stood there beside my RG, my grandmother,
01:35selling bode and baigan and other nice things we like to eat.
01:39Selling from dawn amongst vendors whose hands built this nation's soul.
01:44Where I learned that dignity lies in honest work.
01:48Dignity lies in compassion and costs nothing.
01:52And that leadership begins in service.
01:55Passat Bisesa said, despite calls from her detractors to give up,
02:00she heard the voices of the people telling her not to.
02:03Adding that her return to office on April 28th was not her victory,
02:08but a victory for the citizens of TNT.
02:10Each time they said, give up, give up, Kamala, go, you have to go, give up.
02:17I heard your voices.
02:19I heard the voices of the farmers, the teachers, the vendors, the mothers,
02:22holding families together, whispering, Kamala, keep fighting.
02:26Keep fighting and the light will return.
02:30Keep fighting.
02:30Keep fighting.
02:30And so, we are here today.
02:38Like Ram, I fought not for a throne, but I fought for truth.
02:43Like CETA, I endured not for comfort, but for love.
02:48And like them, I have never turned away from our people.
02:52Prime Minister Prasada Bisesa vows to always go to war for TNT.
02:56And tonight, under the glow of thousands of years, I give you this vow.
03:02I have gone to war for a country, and I will always go to war for a country.
03:08Not with hate, but with the weapons of law, with the weapons of truth,
03:13with the weapons of courage and conscience.
03:16I will go to war against corruption, which steals from our children.
03:21I will go to war against crime, which stalks our homes.
03:24I will go to war against neglect, which mocks our poor, and abandons our youth.
03:31You see, leadership is not privilege.
03:33It is protection.
03:35And love, real love, never walks away when people are in danger.
03:41Love fights, love endures, and love leads.
