The Prime Minister says "Trinidad and Tobago territory will NOT be used to launch any attacks against the people of Venezuela."

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar was responding to remarks made by former Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley during a media conference on Monday.

00:00Prime Minister Kamla Pesad-Besessa says that Monday's press conference by former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley is nothing to be concerned about,
00:09and that as a citizen, he has a democratic right to express his opinions.
00:13However, in a statement on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Pesad-Besessa spoke about what she called the facts,
00:20as she made reference to the signing of an update of the Status of Forces Agreement last year by the government led by Dr. Rowley.
00:26Prime Minister Pesad-Besessa said that requires Trinidad and Tobago to cooperate with the U.S. military in their training exercises in the region.
00:34The Prime Minister was responding to the statements made by Dr. Rowley during his media conference.
00:41We have made no provision for any military base in Trinidad and Tobago, as I'm aware of.
00:47And troops coming here without a military base, American servicemen have been coming here on a regular basis.
00:52Prime Minister Pesad-Besessa said in response to Dr. Rowley's remarks that the U.S. has never requested use of Trinidad and Tobago's territory.

01:26The Prime Minister also said Trinidad and Tobago's territory will not be used to launch any attacks against the people of Venezuela.
01:33Prime Minister Pesad-Besessa emphasized that Trinidad and Tobago is a sovereign state
01:37and does not blindly follow the U.S. or any bloc such as CARICOM.
01:42The Prime Minister said the administration's foreign policy is Trinidad and Tobago first
01:46and that, as Lord Palmerston said, we have no eternal allies and we have no perpetual enemies
01:53and our interests are eternal and perpetual and those interests, it is our duty to follow.
01:59Prime Minister Pesad-Besessa said on X that Trinidad and Tobago have suffered tremendously
02:03under the weight of drug and gun trafficking
02:05and that her government will not shy away from supporting international partners
02:10who are committed to confronting this plague head-on.
02:14The Prime Minister said Trinidad and Tobago will not participate in any act
02:17that will bring harm to the Venezuelan people
02:20and continues to have peaceful relations with the people of Venezuela.
