The People's National Movement is keeping the pressure on the government over the mass termination of CEPEP workers. At a public meeting in Laventille West, the Opposition declared legal war over what they called a heartless act.

00:00The opposition is staining up the heat, vowing to challenge the government in court over the dismissal of thousands of CPEP workers.
00:08And we go to court next week, Friday. We are going before the High Court of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:15And we are going to ask for an injunction to stop this wicked, evil, nasty government.
00:22To stop them in their tracks.
00:25Lavental West MP Kareem Marcel says the fallout has been devastating, citing a case that left an expectant mother in mourning.
00:35A CPEP worker who was pregnant, is pregnant, became so stressed and depressed within this last two weeks,
00:47that today she is laid down on her bed in Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
00:53And you know what? The complications, because of the high blood pressure and the stress of not knowing where her next dollar would come from,
01:04that she lost the child.
01:07Marcel didn't hold back in his criticism of the current leadership,
01:12even accusing a government minister of wielding the real power in the government.
01:18This is a nice thing that the, that, that is wicked prime minister,
01:23and how wicked de facto prime minister called Barry Padrat.
01:26Because he is the real prime minister, make no doubt about it.
01:29Also addressing supporters, PNM lady vice chair, Dr. Nian Gatsby-Dolley,
01:35compared the current action to how her party handled the program when it returned to power in 2015.
01:42She called on prime minister, Kamala Pissad-Bissessa, to intervene immediately and show compassion to those affected.
01:48When the PNM came in, in 2015, we did not do this.
01:5520,000 people are out of their jobs.
02:00For God's sake, Kamala, for God's sake, where is your humanity?
02:08This isn't winning.
02:11This is not love.
02:12The PNM says distractions about marijuana or alcohol legislation won't shift their focus,
02:19and they promise to keep the matter alive until there is accountability.
