00:00Former England international fast bowler Dean Headley spoke with TV6 Sport.
00:05Following the awards ceremony of the Tobago Under-16 Global Cricket Series, which wrapped up its second year,
00:13he explained to TV6 Sport why he had become involved in the tournament.
00:18The development of young cricketers, I work in school, so I've worked in school for 18 years after I finished
00:26my career.
00:26And to see a tournament that brings across teams from all over the world is just great.
00:35And to see it come to Tobago and to grow the cricket, that's what cricket's all about.
00:41What impressed him the most? The camaraderie and the culture of Tobago.
00:46According to the organisers, the plan is to have the tournament for five years, with the possibility of continuing thereafter.
00:53It started with eight teams in 2025.
00:58Ten teams participated this year, having for the first time a team from the United States.
01:04It now comprises four from the UK, one from the USA, four from Trinidad and one from Tobago.
01:11For English players to come on board, I mean we take our kids to Sri Lanka,
01:15but to come to Tobago, slightly different wickets, slower wickets, they turn a little bit, they don't bounce as much.
01:23I think that gives you a great understanding of how to play in different conditions.
01:30Mr. Headley sees a fantastic future for cricket in Tobago,
01:34and hinted that one local player stood out for him.
01:38He sees the potential of the tournament bowling off in other countries.
01:42I think the future of cricket in the Caribbean, Tobago, who knows?
01:49This could grow into taking this to Jamaica, Barbados, here, Trinidad.
01:55It could grow into a massive, massive competition.
01:58One of the tournament's success stories is Fabrice Lynch,
02:01who earned a cricket scholarship to a UK school following last year's tournament.
02:06The plan is to create many more opportunities like that
02:11by exposing talented Tobagoian cricketers to international competitions
02:15and pathways to education and cricket overseas.
