Transcript
00:00The West Indies have won three from three so far, with one more match remaining in Group C against the
00:05Italians at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday.
00:08Despite already qualifying for the Super 8, West Indies batting coach Floyd Riefer says the men in Maroon plan to
00:14take the match quite seriously.
00:16Well for us it's about getting guys accustomed to the roles that they're supposed to play and we take every
00:22game seriously.
00:23So it's just another opportunity for us to keep ticking our boxes, to make sure that we are controlling the
00:30different phases of the games that we speak about in the team meetings.
00:33So tomorrow's game will be like that in terms of guys getting the opportunities to get accustomed to the roles
00:41and get better at them.
00:42The 2012 and 2016 winners are grouped alongside India, South Africa and Zimbabwe in the Super 8.
00:49As far as the West Indies think tank is concerned, the objective is to take it one game at a
00:54time instead of looking way ahead.
00:56To be honest, every game in the World Cup is a big game.
01:00You know, you see Australia just exit the World Cup.
01:02So we take every game seriously and when we go to the Super 8, we will take one game at
01:08a time.
01:08Our first game is against Zimbabwe so we'll focus on that game, you know, do all the planning that is
01:13necessary to come out on top of that game.
01:16So, as I said, we take one game at a time.
01:20You know, when we get to India, then we will plan for India.
01:23Focusing on left-handed batsman Shimran Hetmeyer, Reefer has been pleased with the way he's performed of the order.
01:29The Guyanese had scores of 64, 23 and 46 not out from three matches.
01:37Hetmeyer came with a youth cricket in 2016 as one of our best young batters in the Caribbean.
01:43You know, Hetmeyer is a proper batsman.
01:45You know, it's just unfortunate that he was put into roles as a finisher.
01:49But now, you know, you guys are seeing the best of Hetmeyer in terms of his batsmanship.
01:54So he can bat at number three, score runs and still finish games.
01:59Regarding player fitness, Reefer says all the members are doing well, which is a good sign.
02:04Vinod Nowani, Chiefs Export.
