Patna — A major tragedy was averted on Friday evening in the Digha police station area of Patna, when a car carrying a young couple plunged into the Ganga river but they were rescued in time.
The incident took place around 6:30 pm near Minar Ghat on Ganga Path. According to police, Aditya Prakash, a resident of Pataliputra, was out for a drive with his wife in a new Honda City car. While manoeuvring the vehicle, he mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the car to lose balance and fall into the river.
Witnesses said the car floated briefly as its windows were shut, before it started sinking about 20–30 metres from the ghat, where the current was strong and the depth was around 40–50 feet.
Fortunately, some sailors present nearby rushed to help. After about 45 minutes of effort, they managed to break open the glass and rescue Aditya and his wife. Both were unharmed but visibly shaken.
The dramatic incident, captured on video, is now going viral on social media.
