A 44-year-old woman, Madhavi, resident of Surathkal Kulai and an employee of AJ Hospital, Kundikana, died instantly in a tragic road accident on the morning of September 9, 2025, near the Kulur flyover on National Highway-66.

At around 8:30 a.m., Madhavi was riding her scooter from Kulai towards Kuntikana when it struck a large pothole, causing her to lose balance and fall onto the road. A fish-laden lorry, allegedly speeding and driven by Mohammed Farooq, ran over her, killing her on the spot.

Disturbing CCTV footage of the accident has since gone viral, sparking public outrage and highlighting years of neglect in highway maintenance. Locals say repeated complaints about dangerous potholes in the area were ignored, despite multiple accidents. Madhavi is the fifth fatality blamed on potholes in this stretch alone.

In response, authorities rushed to repair some potholes. Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy confirmed that cases have been filed against both the lorry driver and officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for criminal negligence.

The case has been registered under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 198(A) of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act.

The tragedy underscores persistent failures in road safety, civic responsibility, and accountability, with locals demanding strict action to prevent further loss of lives.
