00:15Did you know that your liver could be affected by something as simple as your diet and your lifestyle?
00:21Fatty liver disease is a disease that's becoming more common and most people don't even know that they have it.
00:26It's a condition where fat builds up in the liver cells.
00:29At first, there are no symptoms, but eventually it can lead to some very serious health problems.
00:36We're going to discuss fatty liver disease, what it is, who's at risk and what you can do to prevent it.
00:43There are two main types of fatty liver disease.
00:45There's alcoholic fatty liver disease or AFLD and there's non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, NAFLD.
00:55The main difference between the two is alcohol consumption.
01:00Alcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with heavy alcohol consumption, whereas non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with lifestyle diseases such as obesity, diabetes and high levels of cholesterol.
01:15Fatty liver disease can often go unnoticed.
01:19That's because symptoms don't show up until the disease is more advanced.
01:23When patients do experience symptoms, they may experience pain in the upper right quadrant of their abdomen, fatigue, but most people don't show any symptoms.
01:34That is why it's important to check on your liver health, especially if you are high risk.
01:40So who's at risk for fatty liver disease?
01:43People who are obese or overweight, if you have type 2 diabetes, if you have insulin resistance and underactive thyroid, elevated levels of cholesterol, particularly triglycerides, can put you at increased risk for developing fatty liver disease.
02:01It doesn't stop there.
02:02If you have a normal weight and you have a poor diet, you can also be at risk for fatty liver disease.
02:10If left untreated, fatty liver disease can lead to serious conditions such as liver cirrhosis and even liver cancer.
02:18These diseases can progress to liver failure.
02:22The good news is this condition can be reversed with early detection and lifestyle changes.
02:30You've got to cut out those deep fried foods.
02:33Fatty liver disease is preventable, even reversible.
02:37Change your diet, limit the amount of sugars that you take in, limit the alcohol that you also consume and make exercise a regular part of your lifestyle.
02:47If you're concerned about your liver, don't wait until it's too late.
02:52Book a check-up, get a blood test for your liver health and make sure that everything is under control.
02:58Remember, a healthier liver is a healthier you.
