There has been a change at the top executive leadership of the Water and Sewerage Authority.

WASA made the announcement today following criticisms of the performance of Keithroy Halliday by the new Public Utilities Minister, in the Parliament.

00:00St. Kittsborn, Keith Roy Halliday is no longer the top executive at the Water and Sewage Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:07WASA has issued a statement announcing that G. Van Joseph has been appointed as the acting chief executive officer of the authority with immediate effect.
00:16This comes two days after Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath's criticisms of Mr. Halliday's performance as the WASA CEO during the media review of the 2025 budget in the House of Representatives.
00:30WASA said Mr. Joseph brings to his new role as the authority's acting CEO two decades of extensive technical experience and managerial expertise in the utilities sector with a distinguished career at WASA.
00:43WASA quotes Mr. Joseph as having said that, quote, I am honoured to lead WASA at this critical juncture.
00:50My focus will be on collaborating with stakeholders, leveraging innovation and ensuring that everybody in every community receives fair and sustainable access to pipe-borne water.
01:02Together, we will build a stronger, more responsive WASA, end quote.
01:08WASA said that since joining the authority in June of 2000, he has held pivotal roles including manager of technical services for wastewater systems
01:16and has also played a leadership role in major pipeline projects in Trinidad, including the NAVET and Hollish-Trunk mains projects.
01:27During a post-Cabinet media briefing last month, Prime Minister Kamala Pesad-Besessa made clear her administration's intention to stop the former PNM administration's transformation plan.
01:38I want to congratulate them, I said earlier before we came in, to congratulate the PSA for standing their ground.
01:45They never gave in, they never gave up. And today, my government is very proud to have worked with you, and today I give you this.
01:54I told them I'll put it in a spin, today I give you this.
01:58We will scrap it, we have rescinded it.
02:02And I ask a few. I told them earlier, I said, one hand doesn't clap, but one hand can slap.
02:11And therefore, I'm asking you all in WASA, let us work together to deliver on the mandate of WASA, which is for water for all.
02:20The latest edition of the Trinidad and Tobago Gazette states that WASA's new Board of Commissioners,
02:25led by Chairman Roshan Babuah, will serve for a period of two years, with effect from the 4th of June, 2025.
02:33The Prime Minister said last month that the changes to the management of WASA approved by her new cabinet
02:39would result in savings of about $30 million annually, at least.
