00:00These two candidates have been with us since 2015 as very young people.
00:05They have developed a fair amount of experience since we both had cabinet positions and they
00:10have done very well.
00:11I must tell you, as head of the cabinet, that I'm very pleased with the performance of these
00:18two ministers and it also appears as though the constituencies here in Tobago are pleased
00:26with their performance, so there was no challenge to them.
00:28Dr Rowley spoke with members of the media following the screening process for the East
00:33and West seats in Tobago on Saturday.
00:36This brings to 33 the number of prospective PNM candidates who are authorised to be in
00:42the field ahead of this year's general election.
00:46They were examined, they performed very well.
00:48As ministers of government you would expect that they can speak intelligently to a number
00:53of issues and the people of Tobago are very proud of them.
00:57So we are very happy to have closed off our search for candidates here and the two candidates
01:02will return as incumbents seeking another term.
01:05Shanfa Kajol-Lewis and Ayanna Webster-Roy, being unopposed, came as no surprise to the
01:12prime minister.
01:13When candidates come forward like that, incumbents unopposed, it signals that there's some element
01:20of satisfaction with their performance.
01:23Usually if there's this quiet and, you know, some sense of vulnerability, they usually
01:32get challenged by other people who believe they can do a better job.
