A Las Alturas resident is being tormented every time it rains because of a leaking roof.

Her living room becomes a flood zone, costing her not only time and energy, but material items as well. Furthermore, it is jeopardising her safety and that of her children.

Alicia Boucher spoke to the woman, but we have concealed her face due to a vulnerable situation involving her safety.

00:00For many people, their home is a comfort zone, but not for Alicia Lee, who tells us about three years ago,
00:07she began coming home to water in her living room, and she later realized the roof was leaking.
00:13It gets real bad, so if you observe when you're growing here, that water is like a swimming pool, it's like a pool.
00:23My furniture after cleaning up, my radio had destroyed, the baby had fallen, I get falls, it's getting so, so bad right now, really, really bad, it gets worse than how it was before.
00:35Fortunately, there were no serious injuries to the baby girl who turned two years old on June 11th.
00:41She just got a little bruise under her chin and that's what's up.
00:45And you said you have fallen many times already, were you ever seriously injured or were you ever injured?
00:50Just the ankle and that was about it.
00:52There are four children living in the house, a pair of 11-year-old twins, a 4-year-old and a toddler.
00:59Lee lives on the third floor and is a rental tenant.
01:02Infrastructural repairs, such as the roof, she tells us, have to be undertaken by the Housing Development Corporation, which is the landlord.
01:09I went to HDC many occasions, many, many occasions until I'm fed up.
01:14What is HDC telling you?
01:16HDC has been telling me they have no materials, they order the materials, somebody will come and look at it.
01:23And when they do come and look at it, that's all.
01:25They come, they look, that's it.
01:26Every time I call, somebody come in, somebody come in.
01:29And that's it, HDC does nothing else.
01:31She claims that she's tried taking matters into her own hands by trying to get someone to fix it.
01:37And while she's waiting, it's hampering her celebrating occasions like Christmas or even bringing people into her home.
01:59But it's also a cause for uncertainty.
02:03And especially if I'm at home and I see this kind of weather, my mind just starts to run fast, very quick.
02:09Because I can't have no mats on the ground.
02:12No more, I had a lot of mats.
02:13I had rugs.
02:14I can't have anything on the ground, nothing at all, because everything just destroyed.
02:18I have to throw it away.
02:20Because I didn't just be home because of the coolness and the water on the ground.
02:25I don't be home because of this.
02:26Lee's plea to the HDC is simply to resolve the problem.
02:32Alicia Boucher, TV6 News.
