00:00Imagine not being able to do the simplest daily task, like taking a shower or brushing your teeth without being overwhelmed by a foul stench.
00:09That's the reality for 72-year-old Donna Ligore-Pierre, who says sewage from the apartment above has been dripping into her HDC unit in Maloney Gardens for months.
00:20She fears that if nothing is done, the ceiling could collapse.
00:23I make several reports to the HDC department and no answer.
00:30When I called, someone told me that they're waiting on material.
00:35I said, how long will I have to wait on material?
00:39They said they don't know.
00:40So I decide now that I take drastic measures because it is uncomfortable to me.
00:48It is a health hazard and I cannot take down that stress no more at my retirement age.
00:56But the sewage leak isn't her only concern.
00:59She says a broken kitchen cupboard reported nearly four years ago remains unrepaired and a persistent roach infestation continues despite her efforts.
01:08This kitchen cupboard, this is four years now, Christmas.
01:11It will be four years now since I told them about the cupboard is not good because the wood is rotten and now you all will see it eventually broke down.
01:21And there is cockroach invasion there right now.
01:25I have to be every night, twice per night, I have to get up and play in cockroach.
01:30They don't appear in the day, but they appear at night.
01:33Donna worries most about the impact on her grandchildren's health.
01:37Seeing the stench is unbearable.
01:40It is uncomfortable for me.
01:42I have two grandkids working here, living here and also myself.
01:46And I have to be always buying using Lysol.
01:50Lysol is not any because I don't want to get no disease to end up in Montauk Hospital.
01:56When contacted, HTC told TV6 News they were not aware of the situation but assured that they will look into the matter.
