00:00In the early hours of Monday morning, Anastasia Figaro was in this one-room wooden structure, which she built about two years ago.
00:09What happened next would leave her grateful for her life, but uncertain of what she and her sixth son are to do next.
00:17I had woken up a usual routine to get ready to go to work.
00:22And while dressing, I just hear, well, an unusual sound of a noise, and I want to know what was the noise about, and while I was getting up now to put on my clothes, I just hear the whole house rumbling down, not knowing was the chenetree that let go off and damage up the whole structure, which I was pinned inside, and I had was to call my sister and my brother-in-law, and them came and they assist me in coming out of the...
00:52The piece of the large chenetree that is towering above the now fully destroyed structure, located at Bertie Road Extension, Five Rivers Aruca, remains where it fell.
01:04It was kind of devastating and frightening at first because that happened about 10 past 3 in the morning, so nobody ain't expecting this to happen now, you know.
01:13And with that, I saw shake-up up to this day.
01:16Most of her belongings are beneath the rubble.
01:19Two days prior to the incident, Figaro's 31-year-old son, a diabetic, was hospitalized in a very serious condition, and his life is hanging in the balance.
01:31I didn't know diabetes, I didn't know the body, I didn't know the organs only.
01:35He is the only one of her three children that depends on her.
01:39She, too, suffers from health issues.
01:41The 49-year-old woman was born there, and inherited a two-bedroom house at the front from her deceased stepfather.
01:50But with her lack of financial resources, it became dilapidated over time, forcing her to construct the small structure to the back of the property.
01:57Now, the woman who makes ends meet through a job she got at a roti shop a few months ago is left homeless, and has presently sought refuge at the home of a friend.
02:09How does the situation have you feeling?
02:11Well, you know, it feels sad to know you're in a situation, you can't help yourself sometimes.
02:16Not knowing where to turn to for help, Figaro is pleading with the authorities and anyone who can assist to come to her aid.
02:24What are you hoping for?
02:26Well, just to rebuild. If I get any little material, Gail, I'll be able to rebuild back.
02:30I just want to rebuild back.
02:32If anybody could relocate me or anything like that, oh, but I prefer rebuild back, you know, as it's my hometown.
02:40If you would like to assist Figaro, you can call her at 727-5753.
