Transcript
00:00According to police, around 2.10am, officers were driving along Ariapeta Avenue when they
00:06were alerted to a man lying on the pavement in front of Frankie's Bar. Police say the
00:11man, who has been identified as 29-year-old David Stanley Greger, alias Cokes from Degomartin,
00:17was bleeding heavily and suffering from multiple wounds. Reports indicate that Greger was seated
00:23in an SUV on Alberto Street in Woodbrook, where he was seen arguing with people who
00:28were known to him, which led to him being stabbed several times. Greger ran out of the
00:33vehicle and was chased by his attacker and a struggle ensued. The already wounded man
00:38was again chopped on the pavement. He was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital,
00:42where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police say the SUV was impounded as officers gathered
00:48evidence from the scene. A manhunt has since been launched for the attacker.
00:53When TV6 and Express went to the scene of the crime later on Saturday morning, residents
00:58who wished not to be named voiced their concerns, but said such incidents are not very frequent.
01:04There's not that much violence because there is police obviously patrolling most of the
01:08times. Ever so often, they might be prone to like fights, like late in the night or
01:14in the early morning. But I wouldn't say it's like a very violent area for the most part.
01:20However, another resident believes the social activities that now take place on the avenue
01:25has created an increased potential for such scenarios to unfold.
01:29It has really become a lot of noise pollution. Apart from that, a lot of people tend to use
01:37obscenity a lot. And as a result of that, obscene language tends to cause reactions
01:43and reactions tend to cause things that are not conducive to the good lifestyle. So people
01:49want a lot of fights and people want to argue and help but there's a whole set of situation
01:54down here by itself.
01:55He states that some people who utilize Ariapeta Avenue for recreation have little or no consideration
02:01for the residents.
02:02Sometimes I have to call the police to let them come and let the person who has the janitor
02:08normally be a car. So if it's a car, it's not in the area. Somebody from the out of
02:13the area come into the area and is making noise. And sometimes the residents can't sleep.
02:18In light of carnival and the heightened activity, residents believe greater vigilance is required
02:23in the area.
